  • Ep 6 - Homage watch bezels, info plus remove & replace tutorial
    I made this video due to a subscriber being in a bit of a dilemma with regards on how to put a bezel back together.
    The bezels used in the Homage game are somewhat different to the one's used in Seiko's and therefore require a different method of assembly.
    - Main components : Centre bezel retention wire & tension wire
    - All bezels are not created equally
    Most chinese manufacturers use a lower quality of steel to produce the bezel, while the case is 316L the bezels can be up to 2 grades below. They also vary in thickness which means some should not be messed with or require very experienced hands
    - Pro's and con's versus Seiko
    Pro -Very good alignment and rotational feel (if its done right) with 0 playback for the most part along with consistent rotational feedback
    Con - Quite flimsy and very very fiddly to get back on
    I hope you enjoy the video , hit that subscribe button!

    One of my bezels popped off, and in the process the "click spring" was lost somewhere, yet to be found, in my living room. After a fairly exhaustive (and might I say irritating) search, yours is the only damn I could find that showed the actual process of re-installing of a bezel that uses a "wire" click-spring. Even video's by so called "watch-makers." My sincerest thanks to you fore not only did your tutorial demonstrate the actual process of re-installing this type of bezel, but also explained the purpose and function of each specific piece. Because of the understanding I gained from watching, I was able to understand how make and install my own parts so that the bezel would function the way that I want it to

    Best homage, modder watch channel on CZcams, period!

    If that happened to me, bending a bezel and breaking an insert. I’d be like ouch 😣 on a £160 - £180 watch. But treating all experience good and bad as an opportunity for learning is the more valuable.
    You are giving a great service to the CZcams watch community with your findings. 🙏🙏🙏

    Appreciate you sharing your knowledge on these watches. A different animal than Seiko. The money is in the details and this shows the difference between Chinese brands.

    Just watched a similar video but featuring a Rolex submariner. Mostly the same! The Sub has an extra shim to ensure a smooth rotation and I liked the way their bezel just clips in. The click spring tho' omg so small, couple of CMS. I suppose everything has been made as simple to assemble as possible on the Rolex robot built watch. The bezel on the Proxima MM 300 is considerably more substantial than that of the Rolex, it was prized off in the same manner so is obviously stronger than it looks. Wasn't expecting that!

    Such a great video!! Thank you so much! Tomorrow I shall attempt to put it back together. Fingers crossed! It’s not bent at the moment so hopefully should be ok. Such great knowledge to have for the future! Thank you! Great stuff👍🏻

    Great video. I really like how you show the differences in quality between materials used, which is interesting when talking about how Chinese brands can keep these prices.

      @3rdstone1 Před 3 lety

      Reading this again, I realise now that I might've been more clear about cutting corners material wise with otherwise good quality - that is having the cases in stainless steel 316L but having the bezel in a lesser and cheaper material.

    Like a groove for the retention spring to hold the bezel on not the spring that makes the clicks

    Just got a new Heimdallr skx007 today and thought about changing the bezel or at the very least the insert. Hence why I searched for this video. The Heimdallr I received has a much thicker bezel than the one you show in your video so I believe they upgraded it but I am not sure if it is the short wire spring type or the flat spring like the original skx. I do not have the courage yet to crack it open.
    Anyhow thanks for all the hard work you put into making these videos.

    thanks for this video.. my bezel popped off and I did what you said somehow by luck.. glad to see I did it correctly.. i don't think mine is in perfect , it clicks a bit when i push on the bezel but it seems to be in ok and it's smoother than it was before.. . Where do you guys buy bezel inserts for these heimdallrs? I never was a huge fan of the bezel insert of my 6105 sharky.

  • @matthewb6378
    @matthewb6378 Před 2 lety

    Do some bezels not have a groove for that spring to go into, because mine does not and it keeps sliding up when I try to install it

    Great video, thanks for the demonstration. Did I spot a Proxima MM300 with the gold indices and gold bezel insert on your wrist? If so is the bezel insert fully lumed or just the pip?

    Hey man, have you tried fitting an Skx bezel to an homage watch? I know that they are in some ways different, but i am curious to know if a Seiko bezel with gasket retention method would fit on a homage watch? I have seen some watches use a Seiko click spring and bent retention wire.... This leads me to believe that they might fit, perhaps with the addition of the two Seiko click ring locating holes.... Try putting a Seiko bezel with gasket on a homage without the click and see if it fits!!!! I'd love to know

    Do any of the Chinese homages use the traditional Seiko style round flat spring or do they all use this wire style spring?

  • @Self696
    @Self696 Před 3 lety +1

    For most of these chinese homages, you need to remove first the insert. Then only its easier to remove the bezel. Plus most of the time, the bezel is made of aluminum not stainless steel. Meaning its easier to bend

  • @NoName-ew1bj
    @NoName-ew1bj Před 2 lety +1

    No prying necessary.
    Use the same method as Invicta bezel removal. These instructions greatly reduce the chances of damaging any part of the watch.
    One of several examples: czcams.com/video/GTYLcG656lU/video.html
    You carefully remove the bezel insert you can then remove the retainer spring and the bezel will come right off while giving it an anticlockwise twist to prevent the spring bar from binding.

    @milsec9521 Před 3 lety +1

    Thanks for your time explaining it to us. Do you think that you can get a still picture of the inside of the bezel. Your camera did not focus very well. This would help us see the difference in the sizes of the bezels.

    • @just4themodderz37
      @just4themodderz37  Před 3 lety

      Its easy to feel, i.e the pagani sub, the bezel looks thick but upon turning and feeling it, you can feel its quite hollow...same as the bezel on 62mas by heimdallr and san martin

  • @josemartinjuarezvargas8523

    My main concern with my 62MAS is the bezel getting stuck with gunk, sand or salt. Is this a common issue? If so, what is your recommendation to take it off if I absolutely have to? Insert first or just extra carefully popping one side and then the other?

    • @just4themodderz37
      @just4themodderz37  Před 3 lety +1

      The bezel it self, it can be maneuvered but tactfully

    • @LordGryllwotth
      @LordGryllwotth Před 3 lety

      I had one kid dunk my steeldive 1970 captain willard with sand mixed in seawater, to see it disappeare in haze.
      I didnt dear to turn the bezel. But as I was now googling it seems like it would not be a good idea to take it off because it has weaker steel some say, might bend.
      I washed the watch and I just now did a rewash and it seems like nothing got under the bezzel that I can feel or hear.
      On my homage it seems like it is very tight fit so nearly no sand could get under.

  • @MrTheMikael

    I might add - that this "click-spring" for bezel is not stainless steel. It's incredibly stupid for this hommages watchs like steeldive, heimdallr and perhaps other brands like addiesdive or seestern.
