    Personally, I love the edp cause it's stronger and it's not difficult as a man (you wouldn't expect this i'm a brut, old spice and Aramis kind of man) to pull off if you know how much to use and I love this particular review so relaxing to watch. Your review even got me so far to watch the movie which i love especially the last scene where everyone is in one room. Most funny thing is i'm just 17 and I think i'm born in the totally wrong era, I love wet shaving, wear a pencil moustache (just like Flynn) and do everything that's vintage and old fashioned just can't live without Sinatra, Why i'm I saying this all cause this all is Mitsouko to me a kind of a macho dandy who does what he loves without a care in the world.
    Cheers!!

    Gorgeous review of a gorgeous fragrance. My favorite chypre! My scent memory of Mitsouko brings me back to my great-aunt’s wardrobe…she allowed me to dress-up in her designer gowns and accessories from her days as a fashion model/flapper (1920s). She was the most alluring, exotic, and uniquely stylish woman I’ve ever known. I adored her. Of course, her signature scent was Mitsouko. It is mine, too. She was 74 when I was born and I just turned 74. Mitsouko transcends time…just like The Maltese Falcon…

    Fantastic storytelling and depth to your reviews. Mitsouko is my daughter's favorite perfumes (she's 24). I have to say it suits her perfectly - it smells divine on her skin and lasts forever. Her friends have tried it but it doesn't smell the same on them and wow, she gets complimented all the time when she wears it. I love how you drew together the mystery of the Maltese Falcon with the characters and the fragrance.

    Hi Lanier, I just love your reviews. Your such a gentleman, and your productions are so fact-full, classy and fun! I love history...your choice of film :-) I believe the magic of any Chypre has to do with the Bergamot/Oakmoss dynamic. And between the Oakmoss and Bergamot you have these florals and spices suspended. Ask an amateur perfumer, please let me give you a simple, sketch formula of Mitsouko. Kid`s at home, please enjoy!
    Top Notes: Peach 1 Bergamot 7
    Flowers, middle accord: Ylang , Rose 1,Jasmine 1, Cloves/uegenol 1
    Amber Sweet Base Accord: Oakmoss 2 , Labdanum 1, Civet tincture 1, Vetiver 1Alpha ionone 1

    I’m a Guerlain-o-phile, especially the Jacques greats.
    I find Mitsouko the absolute most-complex, most-gorgeous, most-sexy, and mysterious parfum ever.
    My life would lack facets of colour had I not Mitsouko by my side.
    No matter what else I wear and
    love, I always end up back with this masterpiece of parfum history.
    The newest reformulation is said to be quite accurate to how the vintage smelled when it was new. I seldom prefer reforms to vintage, but Mitsouko may be different. What do you think of the newest?
    I can see the face of the new nose, but his name escapes me. You’ll know, I’m sure.
    I’m new to your channel, and I love your reviews. #MitsoukoLove.

      Lanier Smith please do. Another absolute timeless classic. The parfum in my opinion is the greatest most emotional fragrance ever. It’s an incredible journey and to me, along with mitsouko parfum the definition of a masterpiece. I’ve never had a fragrance bring me to tears as if it were a romantic novel or film. Melancholy and bliss all at once in a bottle. It really does tell a story and you can visualize a blue shade over the romantic streets of Paris.

    great video as always loved the historical aspect you brought to it too. I am always inquisitive so I have to ask... In the movie when he sniffed the card the secretary said it was gardenia. and when you gave the note breakdown there was no mention of gardenia. I have several theories but I will make this comment short and ask you if there is anything I'm missing?

    • @laniersmith1798
      @laniersmith1798  Před 9 lety

      Thanks Kevin! You are not missing a thing. In the book the perfume is not mentioned by Effie but refereed to as a chypre in the description of Joel Cairo. I deduced it to most probably to be Mitsouko through my research. In the film as you mentioned and I point out in my review Effie says "Gardenia" when Sam Spade smells the business card. This was a device created by John Houston, the screenwriter and director of the film to let the audience know at once that Cairo is Gay. Gardenia being considered by most at the time as strictly for women.

      Lanier Smith thanks for taking the time to explain. thats what I figured was going on the real description was in the book. I will have to try and get my hands on a sample. we had a lilac bush outside of my house growing up have yet to smell it as a note in a fragrance.

    Dear Lanier , what smells more 'masculine' the edt or the edp ?

    • @laniersmith1798
      @laniersmith1798  Před 7 lety

      Both!! I really feel that Mitsouko is a rich full and beautiful unisex. But that is must me, your nose knows best what you feel is masculine or feminine in fragrance. Get a sample if you can. Try Surrender To Chance website for samples. Cheers.

      I couldn't say as they both are spectacular and unique unto themselves. What sold me on the EDT was the reasonable price. The perfume is quite expensive and comes in a tiny bottle. Now if I could only get my hands on that black bird and sell it to Joel Cairo for $5000 "no questions asked" then I could get that EDP and many more that I want.

      @Stallionfragrancereviews Před 9 lety +1

      yes i was looking the EDT is a great price right now on fragrancenet , if they are both spectacular then cool i'll go for the EDT , hehe yeah 5,000 dollars would be great :)

    After educating myself about his racist comments, I refuse to purchase mitsouko. I've decided on a fragrance not from Guerlain.

    omg never really paid enough attention to this detail! I took a film theory class about film noir last year and I wrote about the Maltese Falcon for one of my term papers!!.. and Mitsuoko is one of my favorite perfumes... I would have enjoyed the paper so much more if I realized this tiny detail!!

      +Jackie Fei (Yongqing) I am so thrilled that this review was special for you. There is so much to say about the perfume and the film. Both are complex, mysterious and wonderful. Thank you so very much Jackie for your lovely comments.

      +Lanier Smith merci beaucoup! I am so glad I found your channel on youtube tonight while procrastinating on another art history paper haha! A friend of mine is doing a research about how people associate scents with gender(floral is considered feminine while woody is rather neutral...). I just shared your channel link with her and I'm sure she'll love it too!
