- Billie McCandless, mother of Chris McCandless, in March 2011 visited the bus where her son died in 1992. She and her husband Walt arranged the trip, guided by Fairbanks adventurer and good guy Ed Plumb, for their friends who helped them complete a book of Chris's photographs, Back to the Wild.
