You have my sympathy Kay, without my bread maker, yeast hates me and refuses to rise. I remember adding too much salt to my dough and killing the yeast. Me and yeast don't get on. Oh boy..whenever you are using yeast for baking products. You should ALWAYS ALWAYS USE warm water (close to hot water) to activate the yeast so the dough rises!!
That is not elastic it's wet dough. The idea is to stretch the dough/gluten. I'm gonna use a knife and proceeds with the hilt 🤣 They are not classed as bagels. You know it's bad when Lee says it is.

Kay, dear..first things first, was the water warm, not hot, not cold, just warm when you added the yeast? Between that, and the amount of sugar you added, that is where the start of your problem lies.....I did subscribe, so I'm just trying to be helpful here, and it takes patience to learn to make bread, which is why I rarely do it myself. When I do make bread, bagels what have you it does double in size. Keep trying, maybe put on some soft music, and relax..

Kay it’s just a tea spoon of sugar into the yeast to feed it, the water needs to be tepid, too hot you kill the yeast too cold it won’t activate....
