Excellent demonstration. I liked how he was not afraid to show his mistakes and how to fix those if we make them. Thanks for the helpful tips…I wish I had looked here first instead of wrestling for hours with it and still failing.

What a great video, your patience in explaining also set the stage for the patience required for this task. Seeing your bleeding hand also helps set the stage for the task.

Thank you for this video. Replacing these staples is such a huge pain in the ass. I’m trying to replace staples that have fallen out of the tilt rod, I struggled and totally screwed it up so I come over to CZcams. Watch 5 videos with 5 different ways to do this tedious task. Yours is very helpful, but I must say it was comforting to see you struggle with this minor repair. At least I’m not totally incompetent. 👍

Great instructional video! I’ve got a lot of slates that have come unconnected from that vertical piece. I’m anxious to try making repairs now that I’ve seen your video! Thanks!👍

Perfect. Thank you for the very good instructions. Exactly the problem we need to address! But I fear my husband lacks the careful patience to execute this. It may come down to me 😁

You should fix it and he can help you . I've been behind some husbands that made a mess out of an easy job. I did give them credit for trying.

I like the idea, so I think,I improved on it by using a small rubber tipped clamp, the kind used for clamping material after gluing together (bought from harbor freight for $6), instead of taped pliers. Also, the staples I used are only slightly longer than the ones that came out. I used a dab of wood glue and inserted into the existing holes, pushed as far as I could with fingers, then used the clamp to seat the staple.

Sounds to me like you got it done and I'm going to harbor for rubber tip clamps for myself

Exactly what I was going to say… those rubber tipped wood clamps from Irwin is what I used and I just pressed the staples into place. Worked really well. That way you’re not making a mess with the tape. All you do is squeeze the trigger and ease it right in and it was really safe for the blades

I knew I was going to like this video before it even started from the slightly gnarled 'grandpa' hands with the the bloody scratch on top. For me there is hardly ever a successful project without at least a minor 'blood sacrifice'. You are 'the man'. As Red Green says, "If the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy." Mine did 35 years ago, and going strong. Somebody has to pass on the 'fix it' trait to the next generation!
