      Yeah the greatest version of this gag I've seen was with the old host Jonathan Ross assisting the phone book sword trick. It's a great moment, his reaction was priceless, and years later when the guy revealed the trick on CZcams he actually explained how having the spectator "mess it up" serves multiple purposes, including judging how they're going to throw the pages so he can adjust accordingly.

    Insane Troll is right. There's a very brief time during which he MUST be moving both cards to the bottom, but even then it's hard to find! There's only one point where he must be doing it. I know how he distinguishes the cards from each other and the rest of the deck, but I can't imagine how he physically moves them.
    I caught exactly zero moves during my first viewing. His use of distraction and misdirection is masterful! This video deserves more views.

    At 3:39, it looks like he "pockets" Stacy's card, and he probably has a fake pocket that he can attach to the lining of his jacket. BUT, even if that is the method behind the trick, it's an incredibly gutsy move letting the volunteer get the card out of the fake pocket. Still, it's a well deserved win, because like P&T said, if they couldn't catch him finding the cards, and believe me, P&T probably know every single method for controlling a deck, then he fooled them.

    Having watched several Penn & Teller episodes, I'm now a magic professional ... ha ... Okay, but I've learned a couple of things. Since Penn says he doesn't know how he found the cards, that's what I've been trying to watch. When Walter gives him the pen back, not closed, he has to bring his hands together to close the pen, and he has a really good close-up look at the fan of cards (2:19). [To be honest, it looks like the back of the cards turn white too.] If he can tell where the card was replaced, then it also looks like he does one of those sleight of hand (flip) passes when he squares up the deck (2:22, you can see something like that under his hand), and that would control the card to the top or the bottom (I assume); or near the bottom; Stacey's card is going to wind up in his pocket. I don't know that that helps, cuz Walter shuffles, but it's impressive watching how smoothly he gets Stacy's card into his breast pocket.

    Lol. I really would love to know how in hell he did that...find the cards from a deck Walter shuffled

  • @michaelfowell223
    @michaelfowell223 Před rokem

    Both of the selected cards were taken from the same deck, then that deck was switched out for another, having the switched deck either a different size or texture would easily allow for the location of both selected cards to found despite their position in the deck.

    I knew palming and stuff was involved (duh) but the only part I definitely know is the marked card on the top. The pockets disappearing caught me off guard, can you teach me that so shirts are easier to iron?

  • @krastsanguinar9514
    @krastsanguinar9514 Před 19 dny

    Palmed the card in 3:37 (so actually no backpockets) and inserted the other at his shirt pocket at 3:39. 5:28 - 5:29 when he turns his back he rips the shirts pocket and puts it somewhere in his jacket you can see some of the move of his right hand. How he found the cards from the deck is whole another question. When he goes to for the "wrong pocket" at first he hides his hand a little too much but if can locate and manipulate two mark cards with one hand at that time might as well be an actual wizard. Very good trick.

      Fauna the Deer He switched the deck while they were writing. In the second deck all cards may have, say, slightly rough surface or edges, so the two cards can be located by touch.
      And he is already busily searching the deck with his left hand while collecting the pens. Putting the pens away, he also hides the two cards.
      The breasts pocket is velcroed on and easily removed when he shows the absence of a back trouser pocket.
      With all the turning he could easily glance at the cards, thus ensuring they're found in the right order.

    I have been practicing controlling and finding cards in any location for nearly 5 years now so I believe I understand how he could find these cards without looking at it but the way he controlled it to the bottom, it was amazing. There was a cut scene at the most important part of his routine, that moment should explain everything. That's all i can say
