Kemp signed a contract extension with the SuperSonics in 1994. The league's collective bargaining agreement (CBA) precluded any adjustment to that contract until October 1997.

That doesn’t mean he should be selected to the HOF. You gotta have a worthy body of work. Kemp isn’t even close. However, what should be the elite of the elite is now all inclusive, with guys like tim hardaway, ralph sampson, mitch richmond, grant hill, and chauncey billups getting inducted over the last handful of years. Baseball’s HOF is for real. They make you earn it, they don’t just let anybody in.
So Amare Stoudemire and Blake Griffin are 1st Ballot HOF base on your metrics.

Kemp put Seattle on his back for years along with Payton and made the Sonics relevant again. If he doesn't get in the HOF, Seattle/Oklahoma City should at least retire his jersey. He's at least deserves that recognition.
From 92'-98, Kemp was the best, most dynamic PF in the NBA.... period.

I cant recall a memorable Grant Hill playoff moment/signature game or anything like that. Kemp went to the finals, beting Hakeem, Charles, Malone along the way and Sonics were top seeded in the West (even though they went out in the 1st round to Denver and then the Lakers). If Hill and Webber are in the HOF, then Kemp has to be in.

Hell naw. You can be a very good player in your time, even an all star, but not be deserving of the HOF. It should be for the elite of the elite, like it is in baseball. Was my favorite player coming up…easily one of the most explosive players in the league that turned himself into a very skilled player…Payton and Kemp was the original Lob City.

Kemp was one of my favorite players who came from high school to the NBA. His agent and manager definitely screwed him because he deserved more than he got. He definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
This is why I'm a big proponent of education --- the NBA viewed Kemp as just a "Big Dummy!"
Couldn't pass the ACT/SAT to be eligible for college, and finagled his way into the League!
And that monicker stuck with him forever!When Seattle drafted him, they looked at him and said, "You are lucky to be here!"
And no matter what he did for the franchise --- that's how they treated him.
And college would have instilled in him that, the League is a business!

Shawn Kemp should absolutely be in the Naismith Hall of Fame. There were seasons that he played in Seattle that I thought he was the best power forward in the NBA. He definitely scored enough points💯

What most people fail to realize is that it’s the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, not NBA Hall of Fame. So you have to factor in everything he did in/for the game of basketball at all levels, from playing to coaching or whatever, it all counts. With that being said, he did more than enough in his basketball career to get in. I personally believe just his NBA playing career alone should get him in, but when you factor in everything else it’s a no brainer.
Many don't know Kemp wore leg braces up to the age 12 and from there he learn not only to walk but fly ✈️

He not only was selected to 6 All-Star teams, but he also made 3 All-NBA Teams. To make 3 All-NBA teams in an era with Karl Malone and Charles Barkley is quite impressive. He was better than several guys that are in the HOF. He deserves to get in but I am not sure he will.
