Franz, scottie barnes, luka, cade, shai, sochan, etc. And thats if they even need a point cuz if you got bron, kd, tatum, pg, jimmy, or giannis, embiid they runnin point just by default. Most of those dudes you would want pistons rodman with that matchup.
Not just that but something no one has mentioned yet Dennis brain is the reason he’d thrive today.. not only would he out work guys today who don’t won’t to do the dirty work like rebounding but he was so smart and had a high basketball IQ minus the antics of getting himself ejected.. he would study each players shots and watch how each players balls would bounce off the rim when they missed. Bro Dennis Rodman was an absolute monster, he would be perfect in todays small ball lineup, he could catch and finish lions/dunks/layups and defend/rebound against anybody. His value on defense/rebounding would more than make up for his shooting
I also think he would have been able to learn to shoot - I don't think he had any of the mental blocks that would get in the way of him improving that side of his game like a Shaq or Ben Simmons it's just that when you play alongside Michael Jordan that is not what you are being called upon to get better at - Draymond was actually a really good shooter early in his career - and he picked his 3 % back up this season but when KD joined the Dubs there was no reason for him to be shooting

I’m reminded of the interview where he broke down the mathematics of rebounds based on how many turns of the ball, angle, and how each player individually shot. His conditioning was crazy.
He was a workout monster. Kevin Garnett is not the first guy to talk about him doing really intense workouts after playing 40 minutes in games .You have to remember in Detroit he scored a little more, but in his later career the teams he was on it wasn't as necessary for him to be such an active part of the offense. He was more a pure defensive anchor and rebounder because that's what the teams he played for asked him to do. I think that he started to check out more mentally in the last chapter of his career as well. But I think he would have adjusted the way he played if you were in this era. Fitness is such an important weapon in in basketball and he was one of the most fit players in terms of endurance stamina and pound-for-pound strength. I feel like because of Michael jordan, not to take anything away from Jordan, but we over rate players who score more points. But everywhere Rodman win championships followed, and he was an important part of every single one of those championships. Two in detroit, 3 in Chicago. He was like a modern day Bill Russell. Intensity, tenacity , how hard a guy will fight you for it are are super important for winning on the court. That's why I'm in Jordan got along , because they were both tenacious, they were both intense, they were both Fighters . And also , intensity tenacity fighting for it don't show up on the stat sheet, until you're counting rings. Remember that when you talk about Bill Russell too

I respect what Paul's saying... though I'd encourage people to check out Dennis particularly in the mid 90s with The Bulls. Anytime that MJ or Scottie or one of the wings had an "off" night you'd see it: Dennis would start shooting. Even threes. He was very mindful about "balance" and if the offense was cooking he'd chill... if they needed help he'd start putting them up. I believe that, if Dennis had wanted to, he could have put up 15 a game... but between Joe, Zeke, and Vinnie - between Sean Elliot and David - between MJ, Pip, and Ron Harper this guy knew that what they NEEDED was a guy that could guard 3, 4, and 5 on all of those teams: not another person fighting for offensive touches.
He scored 40+ ppg in his final year in college. He was a monster scorer. You'd see it when you needed to. He could've dropped 20+ a night if he was on a team where he was the first option.

Well said. Rodman knew when to step it up. Rodman should have been the finals MVP vs the Sonics. MJ wasn't having the greatest series and the games were tough, but Rodman made the plays in the most critical moments of that series. His IQ for the game was off the charts. He had the ability to change a game, solo, without scoring. It's unique. That being said, todays game has that rule where you have to let people run around without touching them, hand checking is out, fouls are called for everything, refs are biased drama queen manipulating tyrants, and offense/defense is run completely different. to me the most important piece that was said here: the offensive rebounds and the points that translates into + the style of rebounding. he wasnt just waiting under the basket for easy ones, he would CREATE offensive rebounds that otherwise wouldnt have existed, which effectively saves a turnover.
to me that would be his biggest contribution to offense. he'd also probably have decent assist or decent hockey assist numbers. his +/- would most likely be quite good in todays game i think

During a game the commentary said that Dennis studied the way the trajectory of the shots and the way the ball bounces off the rim to predict where the ball would go. You could see it in the game that he was always poisoned as if he knew where the ball was gonna end up

They called the game almost down to the play by play like football. It wasn't as if even the stars of the league could just do what they want like today's game. I mean in every Era of Rodman's career he played in very strict offensive systems alongside incredibly high volume scorers, guys like Aguire, Dantley, Isiah, David Robinson, and then of course Jordan and Pippen. I think in today's NBA there would be pressure on Rodman to be more than he was, simply because I think we are witnessing the most rigid NBA the league has seen in a while. I mean if you dont shoot 3s they basically boo you out the league and contracts are generated by hype alone. However, I think in his own time Rodman played the field right, I mean there was a time in San Antonio where is career looked fried but he stuck to his brand of basketball, rebranded himself, and got 3 more rings out of it. But i'll just end on this just based on conditioning and athleticism alone, theres no doubt he had offensive potential way beyond a Draymond.

Rodman didn’t have the ball handling or the court vision / passing ability to be a legend in today’s game. He was all defense and rebounding.

Oh yeah. Dennis Rodman was 5'11 coming out of high-school . He was a guard and not that great. He grew to 6'9 in a year after high-school. He had a regular job and had to go to a couple JUCO schools before he made it to the league. My point is he played the short man's game first so it made it easier for him to guard anyone.

An aging Andre Drummond on the Bulls this season had a couple of 20 point and 20 rebound nights recently. Nobody works for rebounds anymore so one guy can go to town on boards if they’re strong and work hard and they’re skilled at it. And the one guy in the middle in this clip (I really should know who it is but don’t) makes a good point that there are way more missed shots now with all the brick threes so Worm would be grabbing even more boards.
He was one of the most intelligent and athletic players ever. He just transferred this to defense, rebounds and everything else to win games. He sat and analysed games with coaches. He would have been just as good today.

Rodman would average 14 ppg on put backs and like 26 rpg. He averaged like 18 during a tough era. He lead the league in rebounds almost the entire 90s 7 years straight. Insane.

Dennis Rodman could definitely play Nic Claxton/Lively/Gafford type of minutes. He’d just be small center. I also like Rodman slowing down Embiid and Jokic.
First player I thought of was Claxton.But more agressive.And yes, he’d give a lot of offensive players problems like the two you mentioned.He’d matchup well with Sabonis and he could guard Luka and Tatum 🤦🏾♂️
