Even though it was initially frustrating, the man did me a favor in more ways than one, because I probably wouldn’t have grown into the modeler that I’ve become had it not been for having the courage to try new things.
Great construction progress photos, loved seeing this one come together! Great balance of sturdiness and fine detail, the interior is so incredible with the cabinets and so on. With the weathering, the car really does look the business! I recently did a kit version of one of these in HO - With a single watch battery inside for the markers.

I surely didn’t, but the exciting part about doing things that I don’t normally do is that I learn techniques and skills that I wouldn’t normally employ. I had to go to brasstrains.com in order to actually find some HO scale models that gave me enough detail to know what I wanted to do. ☺ I definitely like your idea of using a battery of some sort in order to light up the marker lights. That is one thing that I failed to put on mine, but it’s never too late to add them later.

I was watching an episode of Tracks Ahead many many years ago where I found out about 1” scale. Been fascinated by it ever since, I hope to have a yard big enough to build a 1” scale railroad someday.
That’s awesome that you were able to find information about 1 inch scale way before now. The interesting thing is that I was actually invited to come out to this railroad back in 2016, and I fell in love with the size because it was way bigger than the G scale that I was doing, but it wasn’t quite so big that, it would’ve been hard to manage. I think the 1.5 inch scale is really cool, but you practically need a crane to lift the locomotives. However, when my GP 60 M is completed, it won’t be very easy to lift either, but at least my cars are manageable for me to lift by hand. I am just very blessed and fortunate that I have this railroad within 30 minutes of where I live. There are other members that have to drive an hour and a half or more in order to get to the railroad.
@@warbondsI’ve been seriously considering diving into G scale as I already have six cars displayed on the valance over my living room window. I have a pretty sizable back yard for G scale (65’W X 80’D) but not sure if it would accommodate a minimum curve radius for 1” scale. And you’ve really inspired me to want to build a 1” scale car or two out of wood (I’m a pretty decent woodworker). I assume you buy the truck/coupler assemblies pre-manufactured?
@@DRUmBEaTTS I would say at 65 foot width would be enough to be able to make a complete curve, and certainly 80 feet deep is definitely long enough to give you a good run! In my personal opinion, I really like the adage of go big or go home! The 1 inch scale is just big enough to have a lot of fun with, but not so big that it takes a crane in order to lift the car back on the rails if you have a derailment. Even if you’re not sure what you want to do with the layout right now, I would just go ahead and figure out what you want to build. A lot of times I will see a car in a hobby shop and decide I want to scale that up. I take a scale ruler to measure the width, length, and height which converts from scale feet to actual inches. For instance, if a box car, with the scale ruler measures 50 feet, that will become 50 inches for a 1 inch scale car. Many of the cars average between nine and 10 inches wide, but I try to do all the measurements as accurately as possible. There are some things that I have done that can be pretty tricky when it comes to making small intricate parts, so I try to watch my fingers very carefully with the saws. ☺
My father hired out on rock island after getting back from Vietnam....towards the end he said even alot of red and yellow engines really didnt match....he went to CNW and worked there for 11 years and at that time every locomotive had different yellow ....he finished at BN in the last 4 years of his life ....i worked at CC then IC and railnet....the CC pretty had all paducahs weathering different
That’s awesome to get some testimony from somebody who actually worked on this equipment! I also worked for CNW towards the end of their existence before Union Pacific took them over. Unfortunately, we didn’t know how good we had it before the 1995 merger. While Union Pacific had a lot of money to put into the infrastructure, their management absolutely sucked! I decided to get out early before I invested too much time. Even though it was a hard decision, all these years later, I see what Union Pacific has done to so many guys. Well, you definitely go back quite a ways when you say that you work for cc! I definitely remember them and all the Paducah Geeps! 😁
@@warbonds my dad left CNW in 1991 for BN....he already figured it was a matter of time....yeah I miss the CCP alot, some of the best paychecks I ever had....had a astro cargo set up as a camper, would just stay at Markham instead of driving home 2 to 3 hours on a 64 mile trip during agriculture season....trainmaster would come out and knock on the window and yell out YOUR UP!...I'm a otr driver now, going go back to Florida Atlantic and Gulf for my last 6 years....
You should look up the Comanche & Indian Gap RR while in Texas. The Click family has some great Santa Fe stuff in 1/8th scale. Although as a Santa Fe guy, I bet you already know them. I found your channel two days ago while at my AFHT. I spent my rest and then Christmas Eve going through the channel and look forward to your future projects and content.

I am very aware of that club, and even though Danny and I have never met in person, we have corresponded over social media! 😁 We have a mutual friend in common who has actually helped Danny with some of his stuff and is actually the one helping me with my GP60M project when I go to Texas sometime hopefully in the next couple months. Talk about a small world! 😁

O'm a caboose freak, I'll admit it. I have around forty, in all scales, up to and including 1/19th. I build most of them out of coffee stirrers....I'd like to live in one - converted, of course - but sadly they are in very short supply here in UK.
