  • Hello Everyone!
    We are back agin with yet another exciting project. Since you have all shown great interest in my small freight car series, I decided to take a step into passenger car building. Since I'm a Santa Fe guy, I decided to make a sleeper based off of a G scale Santa Fe sleeper I had in my basement.
    Join me as I start a new series of videos to document how I build this passenger car!

      Happy new year to you as well, and thank you very much for the kind words! After having read your comment last night, I did a little research to see how difficult it would be for me to build an ATSF doodlebug. I will have to get through the passenger car project first before I know whether I have what it takes to, do anything like that. ☺

    Looks like a good project. The aluminum cars from Iron Pony are hard to find and built to someone else’s desire. At the St Croix RR, they use folded towels for cushions and insertable foot rests. You can see them in their videos. Keep up the good work.
    Steve

    • @warbonds
      @warbonds  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you very much for your kind words as always, Steve! The more I thought about it, it will probably just be a regular car, since I want to put enough detail on it to make it an interesting car as opposed to detracting from the detail by notching out the roof. Next time, I will try to build it as a baggage car so that my sides are way more solid if I so desire to sit on it. ☺

    This is going to be an amazing project! Clever use of the G scale cars to get your outlines, and you're making a great start!
    Funny coincidence - I was at my LHS a couple days ago and they have old issues of model railroad magazines in the back for 50 cents each. I usually pick up 3-4 without paying too much attention to what I was getting. One was Model Railroader from February 1958, with a photo on the front of a detailed caboose interior and the caption "This IS a model!" On page 26 was the article about 1" scale models!
    There was a photo taken on the interior of the builder's (Leo Myers) 1" scale combine, which looked pretty real. From the article: "You have only to study the photo to come up with the unnerving realization that there are no giveaways...no large screw heads...no out-of-proportion fittings. Everything is right." Lots of photos. They builder had a spur in his basement where he stored rolling stock and the track ran out to his back yard!
    Some feedback on your audio - the music starting when you're unrolling the photo is _way_ too loud, and is very distracting because it covers your voice. So, might just keep that in mind. Could have done without it.🙂

    Really like watching these great creations, If I were you, I'd get a metering table saw with a scroll attachment and maybe look into using a marine ply board, the stuff they use on boats it might work out cheaper if you get 4'×8' boards. Anyway, don't stop what you're doing it so cool.

      I certainly appreciate the suggestions. That kind of wood may be more expensive, but since I never intend for these to get wet, the poplar wood that I use works perfectly fine.
      I certainly appreciate the suggestion of the tools as well because I have definitely acquired a number of tools That I never thought I would need, but they’ve become handy for the work that I do! ☺

    That is gonna be awesome! You remind me of my father! Railways and wood....my dad actually built 4 houses in westchicago by himself, 3 while working at Rock Island....the boy never sleeped i tells yeah! Well before crew callers so to say! Anyway after watching some of your older videos im nearly positive i ran into you! Did you work interchange trains with CCP.

      @warbonds  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That’s very kind of you to say that I remind you of your father!! It will be five years this month that I lost my father, but that’s awesome that we have wonderful memories of the kind of leader ship, and determination that our fathers had!
      When I worked in the Chicago area, I worked for CNW, but I ran between proviso and Clinton, Iowa. Every now and then we would go to the BRC to deliver a trains for interchange, but I don’t remember if I specifically hand it off to CCP crews.
      However, I know that a lot of people know who I am between the fact that I have met so many people over the years and the Chicago area between model railroading and actual railroading ☺

    Hi, there, my real name is Ben Bibb. I was born in February of 1974. Maybe Amtrak got a lot of those cars in 1971, but in early 1982, I saw a few of them in a scrap yard somewhat close to the Amtrak station in Fullerton, California. Museums and or rail excursion companies might have those cars. Via Rail in Canada has been talking about discarding those cars because money is the root to all evil. If passenger train corporations think it would save them money to oust the classic equipment and put new equipment into service, guess what they are going to do. Well, I'm glad there is one thing people cannot scrap or discard and that is your videos.

    • @warbonds
      @warbonds  Před 8 měsíci

      Hello Ben, and welcome to my channel! I really appreciate the kind words and your commentary. It’s a shame that so many of these wonderful relics have been scrapped, but I would definitely love to get around to a few museums that actually have a few pieces left over.
      When it comes to the decisions that the corporations make, when it comes to their equipment, we could be here all day, discussing it, and never get the true answer. As one of my friends would say, it’s their railroad and their money. Though I’ve been in the industry for 30+ years, I’ve never hit the paygrade that allows me to make those decisions. 😁

    Seasons greetings. CZcams came up with your thumbnail holding the sleeper and after seeing what your making I'm instantly hooked.. if okay and I don't mean to offend, the music is perfect tho is it okay to lower and hold the background music to the decibels of around the 19:30 minute mark ? The music was stealing your thunder of your presentation and I found it hard to concentrate on what you were saying... Can't wait to see the finished result. Have a great day 😊
