    When you retire from railroading you can always be a radio announcer or do voiceovers lol.

      Thank you very much for the kind words! I actually did some radio when I was in college, but unfortunately, the radio club in which I was involved started to interfere with my studies and my ability to go home on weekends to visit my family. It’s always possible that if I need something to do after I retire that I could actually working radio! 😁

    Man, I wished I was a locomotive engineer! I retired from a “super major” oil company three years ago at 57, but I’d still go to work everyday doing what you do!
    Excellent job, Eric.
    From Tomball, Texas, Merry Christmas to you and yours!
    Oh, and one other thing. My grandmother ran a railroad boarding house in the 1930’s in Tomball. The days of old steam engines, but the Burlington Zephyr also made trips through there as well later on. As a kid, it was the Burlington Northern through there and now, obviously the BNSF.
    Thanks!

      That’s awesome that while you didn’t get into railroading, you still have a family history of railroading. I really do enjoy what I do even though there are days when I don’t want to go. However, I won’t be one of those people who retire a then get bored, because they were so quick to get out of the career.

      @@warbonds I'll be 18 in a year, would you recommend being a locomotive engineer as a career? I grew up near a big train yard and have always appreciated trains, but it's been a while since I've thought about actually doing it as a job. I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me a little bit about the good and bad parts of the job, if you have time. Thanks, Patrick.

      @@patricknehmetallah1274 I learned a long time ago to never discouraged people from their dreams. The railroad industry has definitely changed since I began my career in the early 90s. There are a lot of things that I don’t like about the industry these days, but I would still say, go for it if this is what you desire. Just remember that railroading is a lifestyle that demands your full attention. Weekends, holidays and sleeping in your own bed at night or not common things when it comes to the railroad being able to plan ahead is not a common factor of the railroad. If you want to have a girlfriend/wife and family someday, it makes family life very difficult . However, on the positive note, when you’re out there, the job itself is exciting and the money is absolutely fantastic as long as you work for a class one railroad. Some of the short lines don’t pay too bad, but the class ones pay the best .

      @@warbonds wow thanks I really appreciate it! Sounds like wise advice. I didn't know how the scheduling worked, or how family life could be affected, but now you've given me some insight. @@patricknehmetallah1274 i’m certainly glad I could help you on the right path to know that while it’s fun to be on trains, it’s not always as romantic as it seems. Sometimes when I talk to other young people, they can’t understand why I don’t sound so enthusiastic about wanting to go to work sometimes. After 30 years, your heart changes about things sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very blessed to have the job and a career that I’ve had, but, it’s definitely not the same as it was when I first started out.

    This and all of the equipment your building is really incredible and I'm really enjoying your videos.
    You made it this far with this reefer with sound, so how hard would it be to rework a small mini-refrigerator to turn this car into a working reefer? Be noisy, but a small gas engine from a weed whacker or better yet a cordless drill motor to run the compressor? Be handy to have for those operating sessions when you're stuck waiting for a meet on a hot summer day.
    Hope you are well, Andy Smith

      @@warbonds You have the talent to build a scale model that looks exactly like the full size version. One locomotive you could build is one that I only got to see on the Amtrak Auto Train before the eventual scrapping: the GE P30CH. It’s too bad that all of them went to scrap. Another good one would be the SDP40F. In my opinion, no other locomotive looked as good in the pointless arrow, red nose scheme as the SDP40F, not even the Es and Fs that were repainted in it! I am amazed that only one SDP40F was saved.

    1'' scale isn't appreciated nearly enough in America, I would love to model 1/8th scale narrow gauge diesels at some point but there are hardly any clubs with 4.75'' track out there.

    • @warbonds
      @warbonds  Před 8 měsíci

      You are correct! Most of the clubs I have seen are all 1.5 inch, so we are definitely a rarity! I like 1 inch because it’s big, but not so heavy that I need a crane to lift my equipment. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly appreciate 1.5 inch scale, but one inch scale certainly works for me. ☺

      @@warbonds I tried talking my local live steam clubs into adding a loop of 4.75'' track to their layouts to attract new members, but I was almost laughed off the premise because everyone is using the pre-molded ties nowadays and you can't add a third rail to them because they're hollow.
