'Of course I want to see him, he's my friend' ;.; See how easy it is netflix? Book Geralt admits it right away!
Weeell in the show we're mostly seeing the early stages of their friendship
J K this book, the last wish, is the early stages of their friendship! READ THE BOOKS
@@del7920 All right that's fair, definetly not the vibe I got from the reading, but yeah I haven't read them :|
The frame story read here is after Geralt killed the Striga and while he is recovering from his wounds. Which happens some years after he met Jaskier first. The short story "the edge of the world" starts after this and tells how they first met as a flashback. The story "The last wish" is inserted later in the frame story as a flashback as well.
@@del7920 Uh, I'm not done with the last wish (at the last story) but I've gathered they'd been friends for some years, and it doesn't explain how they first met.
Joey Batey proves yet again that he's a national treasure by lulling us into a false sense of security during the actual plague through song and story. Love this guy.
Truer words have never been spoken. 👍

@@th3_tea412 Joey's Witcher cake video calms me like nothing else. It's a form of catharsis unrivaled by other stimuli.
hearing joey speak so intelligently as jaskier makes me wish he could have a philosophical tangent in the show as well. we love a bard who isn’t just used as comedic relief
True philosophers are the dwarfs.
I would really really love if they used Jaskier for more than just comic relief. His character is adorable, but, man do I want to hear the more intelligent side of our bard
"Respect doesn't make history"
Just wait for philosophical Regis
To be fair, I don't think there's a single character in the books that isn't, at some point, also a philosopher. We are, after all, talking about the books that fill entire pages with nothing but dialogue.

Geralt of Rivia - Jaskier
Yennefer - Jaskier
Ciri -Jaskier
Jaskier - ...Jaskier

Who needs to hire a cast, when we have JASKIER.
Aleksandra Peterwas I second this notion
Bloody oath!!
For those confused by the Jaskier-Dandelion thing:
Jaskier is the Polish name for buttercup, that little bright yellow flower. It's a nickname/stage name, as the full real name of Jaskier is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhov.
The translator decided that Buttercup doesn't have the same vibe as Jaskier does in Polish, so it was changed to another yellow flower - a dandelion. For the TV series the producers decided to go with the untranslated Polish nickname. And so the discrepancy appeared.

The dialogue between Geralt and Jaskier here is one of my favorite parts in the last wish. Still not over Netflix cutting it out. We get to see who Jaskier really is and his beliefs.
I really hope they fix it next season.
They'll most likely incorporate it into other scenes. It could easily fit in the baptism of fire part of the story
Agreed, and they skipped a lot of geralt’s philosophy which was, to me, one of the most enjoyable things about the first two books. However the geralt-jaskier relationship they built in the show definitely had it’s perks, and I feel they did a much better job in this regard than the Witcher games.
@@billybenson8516 It's actually surprising how many changes with Geralt were made in the show. Like he never really believed in destiny and was thinking about retiring as a witcher even in Last Wish
Jaskier wasn’t a mage but he sure did just put me in a trance with this reading
We got Yennefer’s fanciful backstory thanks to Netflix, now we need one for Julian Alfred Pancratz, Viscount de Lettenhove. Why did he forsake the comforts of a life as a noble for that of a traveling bard? He eventually made a name for himself in the histories of the Continent, but he had no idea how successful he would become when he left home. So why did he take that chance? What drove him away from a sustainable life of opulence to pursue one of unreliable income and potential hardship? The origins of Jaskier/Dandelion is a mystery that I would love to see explored. I think Netflix should have 4 main character narratives, instead of 3. Is that asking too much? Obviously, Joey Batey would do it justice.
I think that would be immensely interesting, but probably would work best as another adaptation; to drastically change Dandelion's role, they'd have to drastically change the story. Yennefer's backstory only made it into the show because she was already a main character.
Dandelion's backstory would probably have the best chance if it was adapted by CDPR, the same way Queen Meve's story was turned into Thronebreaker. But I wouldn't be surprised if we learn more about Dandelion through the Netflix show anyway.
Zamira but Dandelion is just as much of a main character as Yennefer is in all the books. I’m assuming you’ve read the books, did we get some of her POV in those? I can’t quite remember, but, except for briefly, maybe, in Season of Storms, it seems like it was predominantly only Geralt and Ciri’s POV throughout. SO! It would not change the overall direction the Netflix narrative is going in if they decided to add Jaskier/Dandelion’s backstory in at the beginning of season 2.
Netflix botched it horribly.
The friendship between Geralt and Jaskier is more important to me than life itself
ok me
Someone engrave this on my tombstone
One of the things I didnt like in the show was their friendship: in the books Geralt is never afraid to admit he likes Jaskier and Jaskier is his friend. In the show you're always doubting of it. I hope in the next season they show it clearly that Geralt really likes Jaskier and his company.
They decided to show their friendship from the beginning, assuming Geralt was annoyed by Jaskier at first. I don't like it either, they could've just leave it as it is in the books
I mean Netflix has created character different from the books or movies in a sense. In the show, he's more reserved and says only what's necessary. So him being annoyed at a boastful arrogant bard and trying to push him away fits that character. It makes sense
@@idontreallylikelongnames in the books their friendship is showed from the beggining too, but Geralt liked him and assumed him as a friend. In the show Geralt never does that.
At the first time we hear about Jaskier in the books, Nenneke asks Geralt how could they possibly be friends being so different and opposites, and Geralt says something like "I dont know, we just do". This is really beautiful.
Nah theyre relationship in the show is the best and its so funny. We know theyre friends its obviously just Geralt's personality and later character development
I actually like their friendship in the show, even if it is different. You can tell Geralt cares about Jaskier, but he doesnt say so, he shows it. Covering for him, always coming to his rescue, begrudgingly indulging his antics. Jaskier is more willing to wear his emotions on his sleeve whereas Geralt had lived with a reputation he is expected to uphold, even if deep down he knows he cares. It makes sense for the characters
I love how he transforms into Jaskier when he reads Dandelion's lines.
Thoughts: Oh, he is pretty. His accent game is strong. You can hear Jaskier in oh ho ho. So talented. Such smooth voice. Love this guy. My heart is melting ♥️
Any idea why he chose Irish for Nenneke?
@@Thedudec no idea, man. I haven't read the books yet, maybe there's a hint of her origin. Have there been any Irish accents in the show already? I remember only Scottish from the dwarves. But I could be wrong
@@terezaherrmannova8354 Geralt's mother Visenna has an irish accent in the Netflix series
Right? This is hands down the best Irish accent I've ever heard from someone not actually Irish.
To me, Jaskier is the 2nd most important role in Netflix Witcher. He makes the story much more vivid. He’s a natural flavouring to Gerald’s dull deep character.
Geralt is not dull at all. There is plenty of material in the books to show, Netflix just decided to focus on Yeneffer for some reason. I really hope they draw more from Geralt's beliefs and thoughts as they do so often in the books
@@fas3927 agreed that geralt is definitely interesting with plenty to go off of, but I feel like we do learn a lot about him from his interactions with the other characters. And Dandelion is even used as the narrator and one to give you story in Witcher 3, he just is a great character to help give exposition because that's kinda what he does
@Amelia de Farias which makes their relationship all the more pure and genuine because it's not bound by magic. They made that deep connection by themselves even if Geralt doesn't admit it.
Geralt is a layered character we just haven't seen the best of him shine yet. I love both Geralt and Jaskier together as opposites attract. I just wish they were in more scenes together.
i love how Joey turns into Jaskier when he's reading his part
"Joey Batey (who plays fan favorite Jaskier)" they know it

There have been a lot of complaints about the Netflix adaptation and I agree there were a lot of issues with the writing. However, the portrayal of Jaskier was pure perfection. The Netflix version has to be my favorite adaptation of Jaskier/dandelion and it’s all thanks to beautiful and talented Joey Batey. The way he captured the little details of Jaskier’s little mannerisms and tone of voice is just so wonderful to watch. Thank you Joey, I hope you know how much fans love the way you brought Jaskier to life! I hope we get to see more of Jaskier in season three and I hope we can delve into his backstory or have the other characters start to give him a little more respect. I view him a main character just as much as Geralt, yen, and ciri. Without him it just would not be the same.
If the entire rest of the series is postponed, for a season, for a year... I, along with the rest of the internet, am delighted to accept Joey Batey performances of the books in lieu of further production releases.
