All of Reid Duke’s matches in this tournament are pure gold. Everything from the gameplay to the commentary is absolutely perfect. I re-watch this series every few months just to sharpen my own skills.
Marshall is easily the worst commentator the game has. Besides the fact that he just gargles the pros' balls, he consistently makes stupid comments and mistakes.
@@jldrums lol!!! That said, this time we got to listen to the players and it was honestly exactly what I wanted. It adds to the game's suspense because you can hear the tension in their voices and really get behind the player's reactions / plans as they draw cards and look at their hands/ the board.
@@supaaznjigga I agree, that was a nice touch. It wouldn't be so bad if they paid someone's salary who didn't want their chin to be a display case for the Duke's bean bag. Cedric Phillips is a prime example. Dude just talks shit and knows his shit. Couldn't ask for a better commentator.
That ending gets me every time. Such a close clean finish. This is just in general a great match, and I think hearing them through it all adds to that alot. I got back and re-watch this match every so often because it was so good. I miss Legacy GP coverage :(
You should see Duke’s match in this modern pro tour where he was on Abzan and was on the ropes against 5 color humans, making a last minute comeback for game 1. A little better than this in my opinion.
Wow, Reid Duke is the caliber of player that I wish everyone would hold themselves to when playing this game. I love how clear he is with everything that he is doing and consistently delivers top tier gameplay.
Is not impossible. There are still some options. I came back from a 8 year break. And i am building 2 decks legacy format. I know the prices are skyrocking, but there are still options out there. Legacy is a very vast format. Just study it, let it mold you, for you to find what you can still do. There are decks that from nowhere can win, just like that. Just dont give up.
Lol I love how Judges always just sit there watch and stay quiet not doing anything any other time there’s a blatant rule violation or missed trigger but when there’s nothing wrong and players are crunched for time he has to interrupt the game
Chris didn’t get his token from the swords to plowshares he played in 3, around 36:07 He said trigger tho, but I guess that’s just the prowess trigger? I wonder if him saying trigger means they should have given him that second token (3rd total on board), even if he forgot to grab it himself.
This is a really nice match and looking back in depth, I think the only mistake is Reid not playing the strix in fear of the counter spell in game 2 because if he had done that, on the following turn he would no longer be shackled or hampered by the counterspell
“In the booth all my myself” wouldn’t have it any other way-the other guy cannot speak to save his life. “Deaf’s shadow,” “deafrite shaman.” Finally, a match I don’t have to skip or mute.
Can someone explain something to me? Reid Duke has the lethal Bolt and the Scalding Tarn to fetch red. Stitson taps out to cast Ponder with only one other card in hand. What is stopping Duke from winning there when his opponent can't possibly Force of Will? Edit: Nm, I finished watching and it makes sense now.
He even said “trigger”, likely referring to the prowess trigger, but still that should count for the token trigger too. The judge fucked that up, cause he was watching Reid Dukes creatures too closely, making sure they didn’t attack until 2 turns of summoning sickness
I have never played legacy so I’m probably wrong but if opponent fate sealed himself and kept it on top they want that card right? So why not fate seal them my on your turn so they don’t get the card they wanted?
Alexis Rodriguez It's often better to set up your own draws than disrupt your opponent's. Against decks that are playing Lightning Bolt or similar effects, +2 (Fateseal) is a safer play than the 0 (Brainstorm) as it protects the Jace from Bolt. So he Fatesealed himself to play around Bolt while still setting up his next turn.
Back to basics, so Reid couldn't untap his duals. Was also why the last draw was important, it gave him two red sources to cast both blast to test the water as well as bolt.
When Reid was at one life he could’ve attacked with the owel. They said it came in turn turn this turn but it was let turn. He could’ve attacked and wasn’t allowed to due to this mistake
Hop on randomly to 10:46 Reid plays a Gurmag Angler "That was a big play for Duke he ceratainly turned the tide back inhis direction" A gurmag angler on turn 6 being a big play, on LEGACY, IN 2018?! Holy fuck dude what has this game become?
So game three when Reid played hymn opponent cast forced pitching fluster storm, effectively discarding force and flusterstorm so I’m the end still a 2 for 1 lol
Reid also has Snapcaster as a win so it's not crazy to float a 2 CMC on top. He doesn't know the full decklist so it's hard to say which he has more of. If he had 2 CMC 1 cards he could float both on top and save the Pyro for a snap but then he lets the Jace live.
@@TheEternalVortex42snapcaster + fluster was a mistake for sure. Could’ve flashed back AK instead (draw2). Or even just snap for ponder is better, as he had no available fetchland. Ended up brainstorm locked for next two turns.
@22:40, the judge makes a mistake, but Reid keeps his cool and figures out what really happened. Don't blindly trust a judge declaring GRV. Check your state and confirm you actually screwed up.
Seems like chris could've easily won g1 if he didn't trade mentor for jace. Not really any reason to trade when you can make a huge army and kill jace easily next turn.
I do that too. When I was taught how to play I wanted all the cards to be pointed the same way. I've never been able to break the habit. It could be something similar for him.
Best magic video i have ever seen
Very nice to hear the Players 👍
Its a welcome change :)

I absolutely love hearing the commentary between the players, just shows how professional Reid Duke and the other players are.
Proof that you don’t need garbage commentators, just mic up Marshall, the players and the judge
Marshall is easily the worst commentator the game has. Besides the fact that he just gargles the pros' balls, he consistently makes stupid comments and mistakes.

A second commentator would be good, better to hear some cool interactions between two nerds instead of just a person talking

Yeah it's kinda sad, it'll just survive as a grassroots format tho, I don't think it'll ever truly disappear
Let's hope Reid's "Leave it to Beaver" mullet hybrid hair style lives on CZcams's history timeline forever.... priceless, great player.
This is easily the best match of Magic I’ve ever watched
Nice games, reid is so solid, kudos to the miracle player as well, played so well and at a very good pace!
That has got to be one of the top three matches I've seen on tournament coverage, if not the very best.
I haven't seen one more intense than that in legacy at least. I agree with you

Incredible match. Duke is awesome, but I was rooting for Chris, he plays at my LGS!
After seeing games like this. There is no doubt. Lrgacy is the greatest format.
Please wizards. Keep covering these.
Now...
We all know that, except wizzards, they are just dumb
I love how Reid has almost all his cards signed. It shows how dedicated he is to old fashioned magic. The FBB Volcanic Island is sweet too.
Coverage and play was amazing.

Seriously, this coverage is amazing.
56:22 This lady was wearing facemask back in 2018. Truly a pioneer.
Well, you can't blame her for wearing a mask at this event. MTG players do have a reputation for smelling. 🤢
really good back & forth game. smooth piloting from both players.
Probably the best game I have ever watched
Love this style of commentary. I like to hear the players.
Love watching this series, this deck list piloted by Reid inspired my favorite commander deck. So fun.
Best live match insight ever!!!
incredible, still to the very end
Man... this match was phenomenal to watch!
2 years late but what an epic game. Sad to see legacy dying, truly the greatest format in magic but just impossible to play anymore.
I'm not familar with MTG very much, but why is legacy becoming impossible to play? just the cost?
Is not impossible. There are still some options.

What an amazing match.
One of best games I’ve seen
best style of video ive seen with live mtg. Just a lot of background noise but that isnt too bad
That swords near the end was an amazing top deck.
What a match!! Simply awesome
Damn good matchup, loved the exchanges
That game 1 was played super tight by both players. Good stuff.
Judge trying to snipe the OG Reid Duke? Don't think so
wrekt
Lol my thoughts exactly
he cast misdirection on the judge, and it resolved 😏
judge deserves a reprimand for that one
Lol I love how Judges always just sit there watch and stay quiet not doing anything any other time there’s a blatant rule violation or missed trigger but when there’s nothing wrong and players are crunched for time he has to interrupt the game

Very good stream ! It’s nice to heard players
im so lost. started in 1995 but havent looked at it for 20+ years

Seriously. That Grixis deck Duke is using is beyond one of the nastiest and horrifyingly well built decks I have ever seen.
REID DUKE IS A LEGEND
Did we just witness the perfect state of Magic the Gathering?
I miss Magic :(
I enjoyed the video. :D
Lol.. 56:40 ish... guy in the background scratching his ear with the middle finger, repeatedly hah
Took me a second to get the M. T. Chair joke 😂
10:45 Reid’s approach to communication is excellent. For sure.
He also has a great poker face without seeming too arrogant.
4:05 bless you
Ual... what a game!!!
14:55 "JUDGE!!!!!!!" epic
56:22 the girl predicted the cataclysm 2 years earlier
Amazing game
This is why Reid is my favourite magic player
Can I see the decklists ???
32:15 amazing play
“Are you sure about that judge” translation: “are you an idiot?” Said in the nicest most Reid way possible, of course.
What sleeves Duke had? Thanks
What sleeves was Duke using during this video? They look like Ultra Pros, but I didn't see the stamp at the bottom of the sleeve.
Maybe the 'eclipse' line by UP, they lack the foil mark
What was causing RDs lands to not untap in the third game?
Back to basics
56:10 "M T Chair" 🤣🤣
What sleeves Reid using?
I love Reid so much lol
36:05 he forgot to add a Monk token for the swords to plowshares
Good catch - that might have resulted in a faster concede and more time for game three.
He even said “trigger”, likely referring to the prowess trigger, but still that should count for the token trigger too. The judge fucked that up, cause he was watching Reid Dukes creatures too closely, making sure they didn’t attack until 2 turns of summoning sickness
If your opponent forget a trigger you don't have to remind them, but the judge should.

Such edge there
I don’t see what ur referring to🤷♂️
why didn't the jace's explode?
So was the last turn decided on Chris’s end step? Because Duke didn’t untap any of his lands
Back to basics, so Reid couldn't untap his duals. Was also why the last draw was important, it gave him two red sources to cast both blast to test the water as well as bolt.
Reid Duke is a great player
Reid is the GOAT, it's undeniable
Reid no.. when it comes to tapping there is right and wrong, not right and left.
is it me or is Ried drawing 4 Baleful Strix every match normal for everyone else?
When Reid was at one life he could’ve attacked with the owel. They said it came in turn turn this turn but it was let turn. He could’ve attacked and wasn’t allowed to due to this mistake
Never mind they caught it. Lmao. Duke caught it as soon as I did lmao

Except by forcing the hymn he doesnt run the risk of discarding a key card
WOW
53:13 he Jace-storm into full-art Ponder and Pyroblast, should have floated that Ponder for Counterbalance to flip a CMC 1.
Reid also has Snapcaster as a win so it's not crazy to float a 2 CMC on top. He doesn't know the full decklist so it's hard to say which he has more of. If he had 2 CMC 1 cards he could float both on top and save the Pyro for a snap but then he lets the Jace live.
both players were great, but the tiny misplay at 20:20 allow Reid to eke our one of the best matches on camera

At 28 mins, in what world does the player grab an island instead of a tundra. Just a non-heads up play. Christ that was a good round though

Wish I could afford to play Legacy but $4500 for a single deck is a bit much...
Proxy your deck. Thats what I do. A lot of players are fine with it as long as you let them know beforehand. Wont work for tournaments but still.
Duals are what really drive the price up. If you throw in your shock lands, you bring that price down a couple thousand dollars.
Seems like chris could've easily won g1 if he didn't trade mentor for jace. Not really any reason to trade when you can make a huge army and kill jace easily next turn.
im only here for the hair
is Reid tapping his lands the wrong way!? =O
