  • Did I take the cheap way out of this level? Probably, but you know what they say. All if fair in love and war, and this was war!
I look to continue the struggle, ahem I mean success as we travel Beyond the Dark Portal!

Congrats on beating this level! It's a hard one, by far the hardest level in Tides of Darkness. I probably looked up a guide the first time I beat it too, honestly. I remember as a kid, this was the one level in tides I could never beat, dragons just swarm so early and the death knights are so devastating when you don't have much to counter them.
"As we get some easier levels in the next expansion I'm hoping..."
Uhhhhhhh.... So.... quick warning... Beyond the Dark Portal is HARD. Tides of Darkness is meant to teach the game, in Beyond the devs assume you know how to play, and throw you in to the deep end right away. It's definitely doable, but it will probably require a lot of trial and error.
I absolutely love Beyond the Dark Portal and consider it a great campaign, but just... yeah, there's a pretty massive difficulty jump between Tides and Beyond, so be ready for that. Pretty much every level in Beyond is on or above this level's difficulty.

Yeahhh I've only done the first level so far in BDP. I can already tell it's gonna beat me down, but I beat elden ring and bloodborne. How bad can this be? Right?! Right!?!
But yeah I'm also trying to challenge myself a little bit and keep the game speed up. The game is definitely more fun to me with it up, but it is much much more difficult.

@@LaBarBQ haha. Rts definitely requires a different set of skills than the other games there do, though the experience of beating your head against a wall repeatedly will definitely help.
Beyond is an interesting campaign because it’s a rare case where the ai actually plays fairly, they mine all their gold and lumber from the map. This rewards aggressive play because if you don’t expand and take contested gold mines, the ai will, then they will use all that gold against you. This doesn’t apply to every level, but there are a lot of places where you can make levels a lot easier by making heavy use of your starting army or by attacking early, either to free up supply for a better economy, or just outright destroying enemy bases that don’t start out with a ton but build up quickly.
It’s definitely a tactical puzzle. You can win by playing defensively too, but sometimes that’s actually much tougher than by attacking, and I think that’s relatively rare for rts campaigns to accomplish.

@@redwings13400 Missed this comment, but thanks for the tip. I still only did the first level so far.
Caught between wanting to space out recording to make sure I can get feedback and thinking I won't be able to win in a week lmao.

Haha honestly I doubt you'll be able to win in a week. You could do orc tides in a week, that campaign would probably feel pretty simple for you since there's nothing in orc tides that's nearly as bad as the last human level in tides. Beyond is a different story though, Beyond will take some time for you I think.@@LaBarBQ

@@redwings13400 I just meant one level a week in the BDP campaign, not the whole thing. I definitely can't beat the whole campaign in a week, not without some serious grinding anyway.
My problem for beating a single level is that I only have a few hours each day to do 1 of many things, as is the case for most of us. So if I get caught spending 3 hours on a level and fail, I've gotta find time to attempt it again throughout the week which isn't always easy to do for me.
I am determined to beat BDP though at least.
