I agree the best midfielder in the Prem late 90s/early 00s.
It’s pretty embarrassing and shameful that the Scholes’ career revisionists now seem to have him as the better player when, at the time, Keane was the first name on the sheet whilst Scholes was sometimes dropped for Butt or Park!

I think after he slapped him around a bit Mason Greenwood would be his new Becks. I know he doesn't like de Gea, but I think he likes Romero, and am sure he likes Henderson. Throw in the part time kids Fosu Mensah and James who he can mold and I doubt the great one wants anything to do with the rest.

  • @hugoleesong

When discussing British and Irish players, there's a real tendency of focusing on the intangibles like work ethic and leadership, while failing to mention how good they are in terms of technique.
We've seen this with Rooney's retirement. People going "he was selfless, he was a team player, he was a fighter".
And Roy Keane gets this too. Yeah he didn't do stepovers and cruyff turns. But his first touch was first class. Give him the ball in any tight space and he'll hardly ever lose it. And he was one of the best at making incisive passes forward.
Keano was a perfect product of the Brian Clough philosophy. Keep football simple, and keep it on the floor. If you see a teammate that's open, pass it to him. If you can get it forward, even better.
