- Former Manchester United players Teddy Sheringham and Gary Neville reflected on what it was like playing alongside Roy Keane at OTB Sports' latest Cadbury FC remote roadshow.
@CadburyIreland - Sport
To Roy Keane: You were immense in every way.
Roy Keane: Utter nonsense, that kind of stuff insults me in the way. Absolutely ridiculous, its my job.
Bawling with laughter 😂
instaBlaster.
i couldn;t stand Neville as a player, but he's proper bloke. Always like to hear him talk
@paul williams so fw?
Coming from a city fan I agree. Never liked Keane growing up but as soon as I found out their story and how open they've been have a lot of respect for them. Love how Gary has put his biases aside for punditry
Love Garry
The fact that players still refer him as best to push the standards is what makes him special. Miss players like him . Hard and determined to win at all costs
Keane was the best midfielder of his generation. It's that simple.
I think Zidane, Davids, Seedorf, Vieira and Conte fans would argue with you
I agree the best midfielder in the Prem late 90s/early 00s.
It’s pretty embarrassing and shameful that the Scholes’ career revisionists now seem to have him as the better player when, at the time, Keane was the first name on the sheet whilst Scholes was sometimes dropped for Butt or Park!
@@brentmeistergeneral6074 that’s very true. But Scholes is just a different breed of player. But you’re right. Remember it was Scholes who had to accommodate for Veron and the England team when Lamps and Gerrard came through, he was on the left wing! But Scholes could dictate tempo, Keane couldn’t do that.
@@brentmeistergeneral6074 Vieira was better.
CJ I’m neither a Utd fan or an Arsenal fan, completely neutral. But Keane was better and more influential than Viera!
Roy Keane is the Captain of The Premier League All time Eleven. Past, present and future.
Without a doubt, we’ll said👍
Couldn't agree more and I'm a City fan
He was the difference between being a good team and being exceptional team 👏 Imagine playing under him as captain, you would go to war with him
And he and Teddy didn’t even get on!
If Keane was English he would have been the first name on-the England team sheet every time . Wouldn’t have been any arguing about lampard or Gerard being central midfielders . It wound have been Roy Keane and everyone else afterwards .
Been Roy Keane and Scholes
Ud think but they kept scholes out
Well said John, I certainly agree with you about Roy Keane if he was English, Gerrard and lambard would be shinning his boots, keane would have wan the wc for England period.
@@dondamon4669 deffo !
England would have won the World Cup and Keane would have 6 player of the years
Absolute legend....will never be another like him .
It's such a compliment the way they hold him in Great esteem boh as a person's and a player. These are great men themselves, outstanding sportsmen. Respect
I have never seen a better leader on the pitch. I have never seen a midfielder who took possession of the blades of grass in the middle of the pitch. Immense, immense.
There will never be another Roy Keane!
Roy Keane was unique in all aspects. He was the perfect reflection of Man utd attitude then . He was the engine which pulled the team towards glories.
Wish we could clone Roy and induct the clone now. Because we desperately need that mindset now, more than ever.
Them days are gone, there are no more players who love the game that much and in keanes mindset and ways..... the majority of players nowadays are business men first, only a few left who bleed the colour of a club...
Yeah but ye have Maguire no?? Dammit I c ant find that lying emoji ;) haha
I watched Roy Keane in absolute awe , to hear players talking about him makes me delighted I watched the right things . How you improve on brilliance and drag them to greatness is something really special
If only you could bottle and sell what Keane used to give. My favourite player of the prem history
Mine too 100% warrior.
If only they had him now pogba wouldn't last 5 minutes
OR Pogba would perform to his max every game and he would be a United great
@@Alex-yv4vr yes but keane would probably of had to punch the head off him a few times
so true, its like comparing a schoolboy player to a man. He'd eat him for breakfast if they clashed as opponents! Even tho Poggerz is a big lad lol
Roy Keane would throw some punches on him despite Paul being gigantic
He wouldn't get on the pitch!!!!!
Keane had more character than all of the current Man Utd squad put together.
Jones has Character, just short on Quality at the moment
What United would give to have a Roy Keane in their team now. What a captain and leader.
Different generation!, he wouldnt last 15 minutes in the modern game, sent off for looking at a player funny, resulting in the conclusion of body shaming
United captain: From Keano to Maguire. That's how far we've fallen.
With all due respect to Harry Maguire, but he of all people, probably needs Roy Keane shouting in his ears more. He's still young.
Bruno Fernandes is more captain material than Maguire he's only captain becoz of his price tag
mcguire demands noo espect. oof, he must have a head like a traction engline.
poor player, weak leader
If Keane was in his 20s now, PP wont even stand a chance. Hell the whole midfield & defence wont ever down tools... EVER
When utd first won European Cup under fergie, the match against juventus keane was an absolute warrior, box to box and his goals . A one off generation player
Keane was as good as you could ask for. He had it all and gave everything for the cause and more.
If Alex Ferguson had any shred of decency in him he would publicly recognise that fact and give Keane the credit he deserves from the one man that Keane wants it from and that’s what hurts Keane so much.
Ferguson was like a father to Keane and everyone needs to hear well done from his father.
Sooòoo true Roy earned him his Sir shame on you Alex
I completely agree with you Roy KEANE gifted FERGUSON his SIR and shame on you FERGUSON for disrespecting Your Captain who gave you his all
Couldn't agree more
Roy told you that did he?
roy was ultra passionate and a bit too keane!!! what a player and leader he was.
Bar Teddy Sheringham (I'm a Tottenham fan) Roy Keane has always been my favourite football player, for all of the reasons that people know and say about him. He was a captain in every way shape and form and a magnificent footballer.
I'm a liverpool fan and I would have keane in any of the great liverpool teams of the past. He was just relentless, a proper midfielder could do a bit of everything. Maybe not the most eye catching footballer but still world class in my opinion
He won. Matters
He loved the jobs everyone hated
I’d take him before anyone except Graeme Souness
Never been replaced, where do you sign a man of his mentality in this day and age. Modern players are snowflakes by comparison. Roy never melted in the heat of battle.
Agree Roy keane was best midfielder of his generation from a liverpool fan slightly better than stevie g and steve gerrad was a top top midfielder one of best in world.
stevie messed around with scouse spivs: keane is the OG
Vieira was better than both!!!
@@LoscoeLad you could be Right viera was unreal player and leader also won world cup so you could be Right never was afraid of a battle with keane or anyone and dominated midfield and scored goals complete midfielder 👍

@@user-yn7ye3tu7f 😂😂😂😂😂😂utter crap!!
The greatest ever. Loved watching the combination with Scholes.
Delightful this.
Great captain Great man United leader man u legend simple as that
Utmost respect & got a lot of time for Roy. I’ve not even got any club or country connections 👍
God how we could do with a keano now 😔
We need few keanes now
i'd happily take a Neville too
Nevermind a keane I would take an Evra, a vidic, a neville, a bruce... Pretty much any guy who was even half a leader. The team is so void of character at the moment. Maguire is supposed to be a leader but he can barely get his own housr in order in terms of his own defending. You cant start getting others together if your a shambles yourself.
As a Liverpool supporter will be killed for this gary neville and roy keane do good honest interview's work well together honest pundits
@@francismurphy7708 agreed yeah, honest analysis for the most part. Tough game on yous yesterday, hopefully VVD isn't gone for long, not having him is a massive loss, lot of hate on social media about him, really nasty wishing a player be injured long term.
BEST MIDFIELDER IN PREM LEAGUE HISTORY AND MOST SUCCESSFUL CAPTAIN. V simple BRILLIANT
Steve g had everything
@@paulmorganmorgan7541 Bar a league medal !
Teddy spot on , both Keane and Klopp were correct in their analysis
Agree
Even tho Im a liverpool fan, I think its clear Keane sensed issues deep down in the team and he was proved correct the next wk against Villa ! they still a great team but not what they were for 3/4 of last season.
Fantastic interview, thoroughly enjoyed.
Keane was the most important midfielder of all time. Maybe not the best overall, but definitely the most important.
My favorite player ever with Zidane Pirlo and Mattahus the best midfielder that I admired....
Keane was like a father figure who was one the best midfielders on the planet.
The best of that generation by a mile and there was some belters in that era
Sooòoo true Garry the best Roy no one can touch him
Could watch this stuff for hours
Oh soooooo agree amazing brilliant analysis but Roy KEANE what a genius
Couldn't agree more the man was outstanding it's just a shame with the way football is now he wouldn't be a good manager but as a player on the field you would want to win for him by the way he played
I Loved Bryan Robson as a player but I’d have to take Keane ahead of him and there’s no greater accolade from me. Part of Man Utd left me the day he did, it’s the never been the same since.
Roy keane simply the BEST there ever was
greatest skipper ever..it really hurts me when i see people pick the greatest MU team ever, and Roy Keane isnt in it. Should be the first name on the list. Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson two men that made the other great, fergie won so many battles on the edge of Roy Keane"s sword...he should remember that!
Can you imagine if Keane was playing now with empty stadiums, and you could hear every word he's saying? I think there'd have to be a lot of soundless televised games 😂
Keane u were greatest and toughest midfielder and no nonsense Captain. Why didn't God make more like u.
Favourite player of all time
The most feared and respected captain United ever had. He was the reason United came back from defeat to win the match; the captain of the comeback kings.
The comeback kings are Liverpool tho.
@@imahappycamper2022 Wow, they came back in the Champions League final and semi-final. Manchester United did it almost every week.
United are the comeback kings.
@@thegrimmcommoner2203 Man Utd hardly ever had to come back, if they were getting beaten, by half time they mostly lost the game. The only time they really came back was when they drew with 3-3 but they were 3-0 down at half time.
@@imahappycamper2022 United hardly ever come back? You are high sir.
Most of United's victories this season alone were from behind. United's comeback against Spurs winning 5-3 after going three down before half-time, scoring two goals within the three minutes of injury time after being behind for most of the match in that legendary Champions League final of 1999; and so on.
Even United's rivals call them the comeback kings and call the last minutes of the game "Fergie Time".
The only people who call Liverpool the comeback kings are Liverpool fans.
@@thegrimmcommoner2203 One game doesn't make you a come back king. Utd are only doing it since 99, Liverpool are doing it since the club the was founded. Also, learn to read what's actually typed, I never mentioned anything about UTD hardly ever coming back.
Roy, down in perks in youghal, with his brothers messing on big wheel,we were all young lads in awe,☘️☘️🍀
I'll never forget bill o herlihys face when didi haman said Vieira was better the poor lad was crestfallen never seen a bubble burst so spectacularly, beautiful.
Anyone else notice Gary's green and yellow back drop
Roy keane was something else.
Can't wait see Keane as a manager again
Best way I can put it is if I was in the tunnel waiting to come out the last person I'd want to see against me is Roy Keane
I always maintained that a lot of Alex Ferguson's success was due to the fact that Roy Keane was his captain ...during that period Manchester United was unstoppable ...
Keano keano, brilliant at everything he does, people would be lost without him, actually no they have the stories of what he did,but thats his job, really,do me a favour, yesssssss Roy Keane
There's only 1 Roy Keane 🇮🇪

@@timwilliam9855 your mas hole ? For sure , you crawl back into Keanes
@@Liveforever898 after your old man used it, no thanks.
There are only a few people on this squad that would SURVIVE a season with Keano: Marcus Rashford is humble and seems hard working; as does Scotty Mac; Fernandes is smart, fiery, and hard working (kinda in the Keano mold) Van de Beek is box to box; and AWB is a solid defender (if they stop trying to make him a flying fullback). I think after he slapped him around a bit Mason Greenwood would be his new Becks. I know he doesn't like de Gea, but I think he likes Romero, and am sure he likes Henderson. Throw in the part time kids Fosu Mensah and James who he can mold and I doubt the great one wants anything to do with the rest.
Mctominay isnt very good
1990 Gazza gets booked in Turin meaning he will miss the wrold cup final if England qualify, he cries and they fall to penalties in a match that was being drawn at the time.
9 years later Roy Keane gets booked in the semi final of the champions league on the same oitch in the same stadium, his team were 2 goals down at the time I believe, he gets on with his job, scores the 1st goal in an epic comeback and leads his team to victory
The Juve midfield? Zidane, Davids, Descaumps and Conte. Inzaghi up front and a young Cannavaro at the back if I remember, Roy Keane really was that good.
Love it
These kind of characters are not getting born these days generation gone now the mobile Instagram baby boys with agent becoming their father.. what a pity for fans we won't see any of these products now
Look at nearly every PL team that has won the league and they inevitably have a great captain. We had Keane, Arsenal had Vieira, City had Kompany, Chelsea had Terry, and even to a lesser extent Liverpool last season had a solid captain in Henderson. Look at Man Utd now and we have the wet lettuce Harry Maguire instead of Bruno who actually seems to want to fight for the club..
Being Irish, I really appreciated the intelligence of Sheringham. He was a fantastic player
Very intelligent player.
Being English growing up I wanted to be Roy Keane.
He took Manchester United to the highest level and I'm a Villa fan.
Our greatest ever player was another Irish man Paul Mcgrath who I might add was a complete gentleman when I met him.
At Villa Park he's known as GOD
This would gee any man up.
People always argue who's the best midfielder the EPL has ever seen. Scholesy, Frankie Lamps, or Stevie G. When I say neither and Roy Keane is the best midfielder the EPL has ever seen, I get looks from others like I'm a lunatic ! There's only one KEANO !!
When discussing British and Irish players, there's a real tendency of focusing on the intangibles like work ethic and leadership, while failing to mention how good they are in terms of technique.
We've seen this with Rooney's retirement. People going "he was selfless, he was a team player, he was a fighter".
And Roy Keane gets this too. Yeah he didn't do stepovers and cruyff turns. But his first touch was first class. Give him the ball in any tight space and he'll hardly ever lose it. And he was one of the best at making incisive passes forward.
Keano was a perfect product of the Brian Clough philosophy. Keep football simple, and keep it on the floor. If you see a teammate that's open, pass it to him. If you can get it forward, even better.
I hear these things about Roy and I think of Michael Jordan. The mentality was the same. The ability was different but the psycho mentality alone made him probably their best ever midfielder and leader.
You're the only other person I've seen saying this.
There are few players who can drag teams to victory like he did.
He would be the first name on the team every week period he was that good !!
Man of a different era, when the game used to be men’s game, now it become boy’s game.
Roy Keane should come back to manchester united, I see him as an assistant manager!!
There would be murders .. if he comes back ...,🤣🤣
Such an underrated player by the English media
100% At the time he was lorded as the best midfielder of his generation and a few years later they twisted that truth to Keane just being a hard man.
Why? Because the English media don't obsess over him like the Irish do?
@@fraz6354 They would obsess over him if he was English, you moron.
Yep , I recently saw a panel of Lineker, Shearer and forget who else name their all time great Premiership XI - it was all Lamps or Gerrard or Scholes vying for d midfield spots, not a SINGLE mention of Keane - bolix. Even Gerrard himself a couple of weeks ago put him in his all time team (as well as Carragher) and said he studied his game as a young player.
How right he was though. Look at what Liverpool did in their next game! This is why you never mess with Roy! He'll get you eventually!
A lot of notice is on Keane's leadership and fearlessness. However, if truth be known Eric Cantona was THE player that no one bothered. Not even Roy Keane or Sir Alex Ferguson...
Can you imagine a midfield at the level of Keane and Scholes now.
On occasion I've have remarked to my English friends, that if England had Keane in 1998 and 2002 they would most likely have won the World Cup.
Sure that’s just like saying if Ireland had zidane, Ronaldo, Messi etc we’d have won something? 🤣🤣🤣

Keane level above those
Yeah they did, thats right- pure nonsense . Total British bias
They could put Vieria in the same sentence as KeAne., not those two. Keane was busy rubbing shoulders against the likes Zidane not players at their level, which is one or two rungs below. They weren’t as consistent, tough or had as much in their locker as him. Neither of them would ever dominate players like Zidane David’s Vieria list goes on

The writers of Ted Lasso must be long-time Manchester United fans. Brett Goldstein said the Roy Kent character was based on Roy Keane and Eric Cantona.
If you were picking the best all-time Premier League 11 the very first name on that team-sheet would be Captain Roy Keane.
And Denis Wise beside him with Makelele as a CDM. No defenders or keeper needed cos no striker is getting past them 3.
David goggins watches Roy Keane highlights to get motivated
In Keane's times, all that players wanted to do was to win; but all that today's players (including Pogba, Maguire, de Gea, Shaw, A W Bissaka, Rashford, Martial, Jones, Rojo, Mata etc..) want is MONEY. This is what makes them happy, and to hell with football, or wins, fans, or MU. This is the sad state of affairs of the football industry.
Roy Keane was the greatest leader football has ever seen. He will never be matched.
Bryan Robson was better !
@@rael1999 I agree Robson was better than Keane imo
Yep Robbo 100% was the main man.
@@MrDanallman How one earth was Bryan Robson better? What is that even based on?
@@JohnSmith-su3ze .....Did you actually watch Robson play regularly ??? You clearly didn't ! Keane was in fantastic sides, while Robbo didn't have the class of players around him. He was absolutely commanding on the pitch, constantly organising players. He led by example and raised his game even higher when United were up against it. His engine room and drive were incredible.
Robbo played around the same number of games in the same position as Keane, but he scored twice as many goals, that in teams that didn't have the fire power of the teams Keane was involved in.
They had a poll on the United website I'm on and Robbo polled 98%. Don't get me wrong Keane was a fantastic player but Robbo was something very special. Anyone who saw him play regularly will tell you the same.
We'll ponder Roy's character in 500 years so long as we still know about guts then.
Paul Scholes and Roy Keane is a very very good CM partnership. These two encapsulate everything in them that a midfield pairing needs. Today's footballers are too soft, they live in an alternate reality fabricated around them by their greedy agents, much like the Hollywood stars. Ricky Gervais probably needs to take the modern day footballer to the cleaners as well.
Maroof Ali I agree - superb CM combination. My best in England alongside Souness/McDermott and Bremner/Giles
Roy keane is reading all these comments of praise with absolute disgust
Gary "Id look and see a story teller, good laugh and charming". Gaz, you literally just described every Irish man that isn't a Garda or Politican
There are talking about him as his dead . Keano just world class in a league of his own . Don't think anyone has come close and i'm not a united fan .
But Keane was legendary just as big as Ferguson better as a player pitty Ferguson slagged him as Keane was a fundamental part of Ferguson’s success as manager it proved it as he tolerated him at his peak until he had the knee injury
