Against India & West Indies | The Most Absurd Tournament Ever | The Coca- Cola Cup Conundrum
Vložit

- Indian Team’s Line-up
Saurav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra
While west indies had Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Samuels and Chandrapaul
And despite of that
In the 2001 coco cola cup
A Zimbabwe team that did not have Andy flower & heath Streak
They still were the favorites to win
And so started the weirdest tournament in the history of cricket
With India losing a test match to Zimbabwe for the first time in their history
Along with 6 consecutive finals loss, captain Sourav Ganguly’s lack of form and the sudden implementation of rotation policy had put the entire team into upheaval
While west indies had failed to win a single ODI series in the past 2 years
Then having 3 captains - Brian Lara, Jimmy Adams and Carl Hooper in the past one year
And the team manager and board president going to war
While Zimbabwe had Andy flower out injured, heath streak resign from captaincy and his vice captain follow suit
So all 3 teams were going through a major crisis
Along with there respective boards
The condition sure to be exasperated in the upcoming tournament
1st match- A man having 0 wickets, 0 runs and 0 catches would become the man of the match
Cameroon Cuffy - the first man in history to receive such a glory just on the basis of his economy
But the second match would be played in a complete damp pitch due to the groundskeeper mistake
Leading to the match being decided at the toss
Leading to Zimbabwe’s loss
The third
Again a damp pitch
Again the toss being the boss
And again, Zimbabwe’s loss
& so the tournament favorites would be knocked out of the tournament
The final match of the group stage still being embroiled in controversy getting the west Indian wicket keeper suspended by the match referee.
That is an entangled web of umpires, third umpires and rules of protocol.
And finally the tournament ending on the most unexpected of results
With the underdogs - who had lost to a Zimbabwe county team
Missing Lara and Cuffy due to injury
Taking on the mighty Indians
And defeating them in the finals - Zábava
People who didn’t watch cricket in the mid to late 90’s wouldn’t know what a good team Zimbabwe had. Especially in one day cricket. Streak, the Flower brothers, Olanga, Brandes, Strang etc. My team, England, only drew a test series there in the winter of 1996/97.
Yes these players are top class. Especially Andy flower, Alistair Campbell and Heath streak
Mid 90s was the best cricket watching experience, now a days its boring
You missed Alastair Campbell
Murray Goodwin and Andy Blignaut too
@@rajivn8833Alistair Campbell was not top class player.
This just goes to show that anything can happen in cricket! We’ve seen it so many times in so many different scenarios. And yet some stories just keep getting weirder and weirder!
Would love a video on the life and career of Carl Hooper if possible. Found him enigmatic when I started watching cricket in 2002. Got many runs against India in test series.
Done brother....it may have seemed like I'm deriding him a bit it the video.... But that didn't change the fact that he was an amazing player and a human being too ever grace cricket
@@cricketraazenglish thank you so much....keep continuing the good work. I always look forward for your videos. You are a great story teller.
Such a WEIRD and wondering series yaaar...!!!😂
We have to bear in mind that at that time Zimbabwe had talented players like Heath streak, Flowers brothers.
Yeah and add to that list Olonga, Vermuelan, Friend, Hondo, Blignaut, and various other
3:50 : States talking about GST deficit in 2001. Intresting 😝😜😂😂
You eagle eye
My friend, this was easily your funniest video yet... Love from South America, Guyana.
The Zimbabwe situation was imo, even worse, political situation meant that it all went even more downhill from this series on. Kind reminder that players like Sam Curran or even the Curran brothers and Gary Balance who has now accepted an offer from ZC would be part of the current Zimbabwe if it weren't for Mugabe's racial policies and political influence on cricket.
More to come, Ben Curran and Brad Evans
Miss that Zimbabwe team of 90s n early 2000s. Good to see them give a good performance in t20 World cup in 2022
Lost to Uganda
@@soumyadeepmukherjeethat wasn't the T20 wc though
@@atharvsingh1380 But qualifiers for it
@@soumyadeepmukherjee he talked of their performance in 22 wc....that way didnt every big team lose to one or the other smaller one historically lol....but sure whatever
@@atharvsingh1380 That's true but they are struggling right now.
Remember this series so well, that my dad was livid. Good ol memories, but great to relive them now.. Cheers dude
one of the weirdest but interesting series ever
Agarkar wasn't taken in finals and sadly mohanty became so so expensive and sadly india lost Sachin was in terrific form sadly he was having injury in finals and literally he came to field at 26 overs he couldn't bowl :(
Brought back memories of one of the most disappointing tour by any Indian team- one that promised so much but delivered so little. The only tour in my memory that was worse than this one, was our visit to England in 2011
Can u refresh what happened?
@@user-jn7bq8wh1e: India went into that tour with high expectations after an epic series win at home against Steve Waugh's Australia. Granted they won their first test match outside the subcontinent in 15 years, but they ended up with a drawn test series and losing the ODI series, both of which we were expecting them to win
But it was typical of Indian cricket during the 2001-07 period. There were dramatic wins soon followed by shockingly mediocre performances. It was only after the 2007 world cup debacle that team India started performing consistently. The period between the 2007 & 2011 wc was Indian cricket's golden era. There has been nothing like that before or since
@@AshokSridharan Steve Waugh played in 2011??
Do u mean 2001?
@@user-jn7bq8wh1e: of course i meant 2001. I was referring to an altogether different tour of England in 2011!
Too much happened in this series.....anyways very well explained...thank you
Bro. At 11:01, did you observe?? Brain Lara stats seems wrong. Or did I miss anything. Please clarify
Storyteller to ho tum bhai 😂
Nice
Fool me once, shame on you!
Fool me twice, shame on me!
Fool me thrice, I’m taking my bat and going home!
Excellent presentation ✨
Very well narrated story by you ..
11:01 at this the stats are not correct for brain lara as there was total 34 matches. However total if win, loss and draw comes to 39
My brain after watching this video
"Saala itni Hera pheri"😂😂
Another fantastic video from the 🐐
Fantastic video. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My oh my!! What a series!!
Sir,
"When you'll release
Sourav Ganguly & Andrew Flintoff saga part 3"?
I remember the series. True Nostalgia
Admin seems to be a fan of 90s & 00s Zimbabwe
my childhood days ❤️😍🔥
Shervin Campbell and Grant flower had unique batting styles
Hey Raaz when are u completing the Ganguly vs flintoff saga ?? As of now u have uploaded 2 clips of that rivalry but not 3rd so when is that coming
Zimbabwe was a very strong team those days with players like Andy flower, grant flower, heath streak, henry olonga, Andy Blignaut, taibu
True, the video needn't have been so condescending to Zimbabwe. They had some good players.
Well.. Not really.. Zimbabwe was never a favourite although they were known to fight hard. And India was well known to lose series finals against Ganguly (He lost 14 finals & won just one).
So West Indies won, and it was not a surprise.
Can you please make a video on bench strength utilisation of India vs other countries.
Apparently everybody is boasting about such a thing well we never saw it
Nice video this one..!
Cricket Raaz English, you're one of the best narrators in Cricketing history, telling the story of one of the most weirdest and absurd tournaments in the world, and joking about the Zimbabwean weather and the team itself, despite its ups and downs in their Cricketing prowess.
One of the most underrated channels
Your voice is so smooth!!!!
Loving it❤️❤️
The trend of losing in the knockouts is back, the main reason being we play bilateral series all year long, and if you see we loose the first game in almost all series and win the other 2, don’t know why they don’t have Tri series, there will be knockout situations, do they fear india might not qualify for the final?
dude during that time India heavily relied on Tendulkar who most of the time choked in finals but now we have match winning batsmens from 1-5 still losing almost all finals/semi finals..what a shame
@@divesh613 it was sachin then and it’s Kohli now, in almost all pak games top order is failing and Kohli comes to the rescue and if he fails game over
@@nischithreddy92 yes agree...We have a great team we are just selecting our squad based on players reputation not on performance..we need someone like Gregg Chappal who can take harsh decision.. Rohit ,KL,Bhuvi, Shami,Ashwin, Axar,DK should be thrown from T20 squad immediately. Dhawan if fails in another series should be dropped..

A video on new rise of Indian cricket after the dark ages of captain Azharuddin
I saw the final and I remember Carl Hooper holding the trophy being asked by an unruly Indian media person, " after how long?".
Being the gentleman Hooper didn't pay heed to the insult.
Last 2 seconds were the best
Loved it mann 😂😂
Maaaan… I ever will allow someone to narrate my life story, it will be you. ❤️ Such an impactful information
Can't stop my laughter for Zimbabwe losing the toss😂
Does anyone miss the Tri-Series in ODI?
Lara did not play in this series , and I think India were the favorites , they had been to many finals and lost , they lost to the kiwis in Kenya in 2000s , drew with Srilanka in the icc champions trophy .They had beaten the windies in the west indies in 2002 but lost the home series (ODI)
You have come a long way in the way you narrate, glad to see improvement.
Ritender Singh Sodhi and Sameer Dighe had 100 runs partnership in the final.....Video was fantastic but should have added some more drama about the final match..it had controversial stumping and controversial catch taken by Sodhi which was given not out...
Brother , pls make this video in hindi too
When you speak in hindi, it’s outstanding
I still remember until finals Darren Ganga was playing too slow, but in finals he gave W. Indies flying start
Please narrate the story about India vs Mystery Spinner aka Ajantha Mendis.

Sad to see that Cricket is dying now there no cricket left like before
Nostalgic feels
Cancellation of the tri-serieses have put a dent on the finance of several boards. They were getting obsolete though.
Early 2000 Zimbabwe was a cricket power house..... They were dangerous.... Flower brothers... Neil. Johnson.. Heath streak ... Etc
Zimbabwe at that time was a good team so not a surprise that they were favs
Watching this,I remember India losing toss for first 4 matches of T20 wc 2021
ROFL..... amazing series 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Isnt this series the one where douglas marrilier played a t20 innings from the future?
Please make a video about Virat👑 comeback
Ricardo powell batted well that series
As usual India lost the Final.
Tendulkar scored a grand 0 in that finals chase.
He was unwell he came to field post 26 th over he couldn't bowl, mohanty was very expensive and team went without Ajit Agarkar which cost them!!!
The narrator can make up his own story based on his biases against Dada, but the fact is zimbabwe was a team to reckon with.reference 1999 world cup.

Cricket and politics in it is not unknown at all .
This series should be named the "Bogdanhoff triangular series".

India won all the round robin matches but unfortunately lost the finals against westindies and westindies had declined and lara was not there
This is cricket.......
Ohh! The speaking skills💥 whatte a narrator for us as a cricket lover❤️
Why are u laughing while saying jimbabwe..there are too many good players in that team
True they had many good players... But nothing compared to the India monster of the time....

this generation of cricket fans are disconnected with that era. India were flat track bullies who would froth with excitement at the prospect of beating Zimbabwe in their land.. and then imploded in the process.
Also that Zimbabwe team was quite decent
What was fone against ridley jacobs was wrong as by that logic Australia wouldnt have got to play its star players in many matches. And flintoff, lesser spoken the better
I'm just glad I don't know anyone in real life who talks like this! Just couldn't stand the extreme voice modulation.
True

funny
Zimbabwe at one point, one of the most promising team andy and grant flower, Alister campbell, neil johnson, heath streak, andy and guy wittal, henry olonga, later tatinda taibu
But the fall came because of white supremacist having problems with adding more natives. This had to happen one day, had thf players accepted it, Zimbabwe woukd have improved slowly.
