  • What is Base Training?
    Why should you do it?
    And who is it for?
If you want to ride longer and get faster, you have to build up fitness from the ground up.
Kind of like a house, you don’t start with the roof.
First comes the foundation. In the training world we call this base training.
During Base Training we focus on four things.
1- building out the aerobic energy system
    2- proper technique
    3- building strength
4- learning or getting reintroduced on how to train after a break.
A lot of coaches will tell you to only ride in Zone 1 or 2 and the longer the rides the better.
They keep you doing this low intensity for a couple of weeks before starting to incorporate higher intensity intervals.
Other coaches will have you do interval sessions right from the beginning.
Who do I think is right?
Well, I think they are both right. Depending on what kind of athlete you are, following a mix of the two during the base training phase can be of great benefit.
Especially if you have only a limited amount of time each week.

Don't forget: slow is the new fast, and 50 is the new 30. I can say this, I am 50 and feel 30. Base can be boring, so organise base company 😊

I have a question, I built a Ebike, one road and another off road, i equipped them with flat pedals and hiking boots, because i felt more confident on dirt and gravel ,my primary setup is speedply zeros with Lake shoes. So my question is i thinking im not using proper shoes aka mountain bike with stiff soles. Because i now have planter fasaciitis after a couple of weeks riding hard😢.im not really used to mountain biking these days , however during the ride it felt so good and fun i really rode hard.?. Poor mountain bike fit?, pedal technique? Equipment. 😊 ,I'm taking sometime off to heal and i put clipless pedals on bikes and ill wear cycling shoes to see if they help ❤.

I would maybe look into getting some flat pedal (non clip) MTB shoes and keep using flats if that feels good to you. On the other hand, I would blame the shoes and pedal combo for the foot problems. Speedplay don’t offer a wide contact area and the shoe must have not been a great fit. Hope this helps, good luck
