My favourite player. Imagine if McDonalds was around then, he'd be 40 stones or more. They say the earth shook when he made a save

    Whoah ... 4m09 ... "If I stand like that I stretch my exo-skeleton slightly" - a human with an exo-skeleton? I knew goalkeepers were a different breed!!!

In my opinion, it's not about how big you make yourself look; the oppositions decision to kick either closer or further to your body relies on the possibility of you stopping the shot. So, if a goalkeeper's frame is wide, then a striker may take the shot and possibly get his or her shot deflected by the arm. I'd like to learn more about the study involving the Muller Lyer illusion, especially the reliability of the quality of answers provided to the study.

His surname was "Foulke", not "Foulkes", he was not slow but very nimble on his feet according to playing colleagues. With Sheffield United he won two League titles and the FA Cup and played once for England, and no-one does that by being "so slow..." as described here. There's a brief film clip of Sheffield United vs Bury in 1902 at the end of the Mitchell and Kenyon film here czcams.com/video/7UkVZZnrC4E/video.html in which you can see Foulke being perfectly agile taking one of his famous long goal kicks. The story that the two boys were the origin of ball boys is also apocryphal and may or may not be true. Not the best academic work, Professor :)

He is my relative. Some of the family had Foulkes and some were Foulke on their birth certificates etc. There was no consistent spelling of the surname!
