"This land's the place I love, and here I'll stay" Gerry passed away in Liverpool - his home! Aside from a great 60's singer and hit-maker, incredibly under-rated songwriter and guitarist. This song is simply beautiful - and singing about Liverpool before John and Paul (Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane) - now that's something that should be noted! Thanks for the great music Gerry and the Pacemakers.
@@Willowsmum Only a few moments ago did a similar sentiment occur to me. Will there ever be another time in pop music like the one we had the good fortune of experiencing? Will that historic cycle come 'round again?
So very shocked and sad to hear Gerry passed away....along with the Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers was my favorite British group....Rest In Peace Gerry and thanks so much for the music ~ 🌹💙🌹
This is, hands down, one of the best pop songs to come out of the British Invasion. Meticulously produced with a heartfelt vocal by Gerry Marsden. Exquisite production by Sir George Martin.
George Martin - who else would have thought to add French Horns and English Horns to the backup? Sir Martin is the biggest "unsung hero" of great pop music - *ever*.
I love the lyric " people around ever corner they seem to smile and say we don't care what your name is boy we will never turn you away" If all people could all live that way today
RIP beautiful song beautiful person... Big love and big respect to the family.... That's not a song that's an anthem.. and I will carry the beautifulness of that song for the rest of my life.
Ferry cross the Mersey, Don't let the sun catch you crying, You'll never walk alone are just a few of my favorite songs you sang. You will be missed by a lot of people. RIP and you definitely will never walk alone.
I wasn't born until 1967. I grew up appreciation practically every genre of music. In my early 20's I was listening to one of our radio stations here in DC and this station was 97.1 WASH FM. They played songs from the 60's and 70's. One day while at work Ferry Cross The Mersey came on the radio. I didn't stop what I was doing until I heard "Liiiife goes on day after day, hearts torn in ev-er-y way... The voice, the music and the lyrics literally moved me. I looked up all information I could find about Gerry and the Pacemakers. I went out and purchased their CD's especially their greatest hits. The second song that I fell in love with was "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin'". I have loved their music since then. I didn't care that I was the only one at work who hated (and still hates) The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and could never understand what the hell made people act like idiots (referring to the screaming and crying women) for these two cornball talentless British groups. I was convinced the ONLY way any talentless, horrible singing, below average "musicians" like those two could have become that famous, is because they sold their souls to Satan in exchange for fame and fortune. I loved British pop, rock, and soul as long as the music came from ANY GROUP besides the B's and the RS's. Give me Manfred Mann, The Animals, Tom Jones, Marianne Faithful, Dusty Springfield, Herman's Hermits, Donovan, and most of all Gerry and the Pacemakers. Mr. Gerard Marsden will surely be missed,, but Gery and the Pacemakers live on🥲
A true Mersey side star, just loved your music and stage performances. So many thanks for the entertainment you have given. Condolences to your family.........xx
I was fortunate enough to cross the mersey with my late father, I'll always remember it, he sang the song and made it so special.. Little did we know that he would be dead in about 4 years with the big C he was 41, my life changed in a heartbeat, that's why this song means so much, RIP DADDY LOVE YOU ♥️
Majorette UK Thanks for that touching story! I love hearing stories about the good old days with family and friends. Your story touched my heart. THANK YOU.
I remember this song amongst the many that they recorded. RIP Gerry. Their songs were the gentler side of popular music. Gerry & The Pacemakers are amongst my favourite memories.
We don't care what your name is boy, we'll never turn you away! That sums up the people of Liverpool in one sentence! Thank you Gerry for the songs that made our city the envy of the world.
I once heard Paul McCartney say he wished he had written that song. I understand why. The lyrics speak about accepting and loving one's life, and loving one's neighbor. But it does so in an understated way, which I believe makes it even more powerful. At the end where Gerry does the final, "Here I'll stay," the instrumental ending (with the great George Martin producing) is music that makes you visually think of a ship crossing the Mersey, doing what it is intended to do, and Gerry being at peace with his life. Since we all desire that, I think that's one reason the song continues to resonate so deeply.
Certainly one of the most beautiful songs of the entire British Invasion! So is "I'll Be There" too, which Bobby Darin's original doesn't even touch. A great time to be alive-- RIP Gerry and thanks for contributing to the soundtrack of my life!
I heard this song when I was 13 years old in Malaysia. Now, living in Macau, walking tru You Tube, saw this page and decided to hear one of my favourite songs. Sad to know that he has gone. May God bless your soul.

RIP Mr Marsden, your beautiful voice will be heard in heaven and earth. Gerry and the Pacemakers are joyful to listen too. Ferry Cross the Mersey was a magical and mystical song that I loved very much and still do. I have visited the wonderful city Liverpool and caught the enigmatic ferry across the beautiful waterfront. Incredible people, music, history and culture. I will return. X

@Hello David how are you doing
RIP Gerry Marsden you’ll never walk alone x
RIP Gerry Marsden 💛
This is my memory of my life in 1965...the lyrics saying...go home girl... everything comes full circle... I'm 72 now and I've seen enough of the world to know... there's no place like home...back to my roots.. because that's where I belong and LIVERPOOL is that place.. because of COVID restrictions..it's been 3 long years since I last flew in there... quite rightly named after one Liverpudlian...whom I adored...John Lennon...I would recommend that everyone of a younger age would listen to those oldies from a previous age...one in particular tonight.as we pray for unity and peace...Stand by me...with love from me to you...keep the faith everyone
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day…Stay Safe!
How can this song be 60yrs old sounds great today
This is one of those rare songs that makes you stop and listen to it.
R.i.p Gerry Marsden will never be forgotten
"This land's the place I love, and here I'll stay" Gerry passed away in Liverpool - his home! Aside from a great 60's singer and hit-maker, incredibly under-rated songwriter and guitarist. This song is simply beautiful - and singing about Liverpool before John and Paul (Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane) - now that's something that should be noted! Thanks for the great music Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Amen to that 😇 🙏 💯 Ty for sharing ☺
Gerry & the pacemakers and the Beatles were part of the Mersey sound
Life will never be this good again. I’m glad I was born early enough to have these memories. Wonderful times.
it was a seaport and the sailors brought lot o records from u s
@@Willowsmum Only a few moments ago did a similar sentiment occur to me. Will there ever be another time in pop music like the one we had the good fortune of experiencing? Will that historic cycle come 'round again?
So very shocked and sad to hear Gerry passed away....along with the Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers was my favorite British group....Rest In Peace Gerry and thanks so much for the music ~ 🌹💙🌹
Hello Lynn how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Jim Roberts true!
If it was safe enough to do so, I'm sure more would.
Jim Roberts it describes the people of Liverpool or better yet Merseyside very well.
How true! People in this country have forgotten, what it says on the Statue of Liberty.😔💒
Jody Wilke this song has nothing to do with the USA.
I was 3 when this came out and still love it. I've seen them live in the 80's.
Hello Martha, how is things going with you ?
Mr. Gerard Marsden will surely be missed,, but Gery and the Pacemakers live on🥲
Takes me back instantly to a happier golden time …
Meine 73 Jahre geraten dabei fast in Vergessenheit. Danke
Thanks for your music Gerry.safe crossing for final trip.

Boy! he had a very distinctive and mellifluous voice.
When I was very young I heard this song and today this day I want to stay in a land like that.

I still play these songs.
I’m 66 and heard this song as a kid. Thanks to the internet I can continue to enjoy it.
Such a mild and soothing song.
I remember going on the ferry from Liverpool to New brighton for the Arcades in the late 70's
Great song and Great Entertainer as we just lost Gerry...So sad. Having a good cry!
Hello Lana how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
RIP Gerry, thankyou for the music and the memories.
I heard this song when I was 13 years old in Malaysia. Now, living in Macau, walking tru You Tube, saw this page and decided to hear one of my favourite songs. Sad to know that he has gone. May God bless your soul.
I love Malaysia!!!!! I try to make a visit often
