    To be fair, a lot of what happened to Bai qin and Yehua is because of her mother and the holy emperor. Had she been more accepting things could have turned out differently. His mother had a lot of influence over how Bai was treated when she was a mortal.

      Agree so hard. She may have, for once, said the right thing here. But to me, this the first time. Throughout the whole show, when things go bad for YH, she's there to try to get him to go along with it. When things are going well for him, she's there to try and put a stop to it. And that scene, I think isn't there to show how much she loves her son, but to stop BQ from repeating her previous mistake and to stand up for the ways of the Heavenly People. 🙄

      Lexu has never been in a position to have an opinion, though. She lives under the emperor’s control too, they took Yehua away from her in the beginning. Like Yehua, she was brainwashed into thinking like them without knowing it :DD

    I mean...Bai Qian is not exactly the brightest star in the heavens and that's what makes her such a GREAT character in a sea of Mary Sues in C-Dramaland (cough, Fuyao, cough) so I thought it was actually pretty much consistent with her character that she can't think past her own pain. But the reason why Lady Lexu's reprimand felt so...mean? was that it was not exactly like she and the ENTIRE Heavenly Court didn't push Yehua directly into this outcome. Lexu's grief is understandable but it's also just as selfish as Bai Qian's and it makes the rant a wee bit hypocritical (but I get it - they're both grieving and blaming each other, which also makes sense). Damn it, this show is still a masterpiece. Thanks for this micro-rant!

      Thanks for watching!😁
      Yes, having flaws is the first step to create a good character, the next one is to have the narrative recognize those flaws. Not sure that’s been done here, though, since people around Bai Qian treat her like the literal brightest star (except her enemies), and she gets more reward than consequences for her mistakes. That’s why I appreciate Lexu’s rant, it makes Bai Qian look a little better - not as a person - but as a character.
      (Actually, I think Yehua chose this outcome for himself. “Asking for help” is not an option for him, ever😂. That’s one of his flaws, and it works like one)

    • @PallasPersephone
      @PallasPersephone Před 2 lety +3

      @@quippequest HA! Well, you got me there cause that is also accurate, Yehua also being the cause of his own demise. But arguably, the venn diagram of who is at fault is practically a circle. This drama has always stood out for me though is that their actions have tangible consequences which is a LOT more than most c-dramas. The stakes matter. And as you rightfully pointed out - without this consequence of Bai Qian's selfishness, how long would it have taken Yehua to return? Clearly forever cause Bai Qian is shown to be real sucky at the resurrection business (and cause nobody told her there's a magic coffin). Anyways, keep up the good work! Love your reviews!

    • @quippequest
      @quippequest  Před 2 lety +6

      True, one of the great things about this drama is how bad things are caused by both external factors and the characters' choices. In the end, Yehua and Bai Qian themselves are responsible for a lot of things that happen and so they're interesting to watch, they're not this perfect couple who are too good for the world like in a lot of other dramas :D

      In Bai Qian’s defense her brother was the one who told her to sleep due to the fact that he saw that she wasn’t doing well with his death. I think he knew she needed to get herself well before taking care of her son and I also think she knew how the heavenly family would react to her being around him now that his father is gone. Given the fact they wanted her dead when she was a human.

      @@sararogers3542 Yes, that's rather the point. Bai Qian is 90,000+ years old, but she acts like an adolescent who would succumb to any suggestion of comfort.
      Regarding the heaven family, it's been established that Bai Qian's family is special/powerful (with the whole family being "supreme gods" and all), I'm sure Bai Qian can be around the kid as much as she wants regardless of what anyone thinks.

    I just finished binge-watching this show last night, and you know I was thinking the same thing more or less. More or less. I feel the mothers pain. The fact that Si Jin tried to manipulate her in the past shows how she cared about her son and even Su Jin deeply. (And ofc flashbacks like that time Ye Hua forced an early high immortal trial in order to SEE HIS MOTHER *5/5 buttholes for Tian Jun!*) BUT, Ye Hua did actually help cause the problem with Su Jin, it was him who chose the punishment for his actions, and it was him who hurt an innocent Susu without trying to protect her. I'm pretty sure he could have picked her up and hidden her somewhere safe. He also had many trusted people to help him hide her, and even ones he didn't know he could trust like Dong Hua, Feng Jiu and Zhe Yan. Basically he was just young, dumb and in love like all men are at some point. Though between you and me, what was the point of showing Mo Yuan's affection toward BQ if he wouldn't be with her? The lightning bolts he and YH took for BQ, and the fact that MY was RECOVING ATOP HID KUNLUN LOTUS POND while inside the crown prince of the western sea's body made me thing I knew where this was going...BQ's trial was 300years and while Qing Cang sealed her powers, senses and memories, he didn't actually have anything to do with what came after...not directly? It made sense that YH would be the second life and trial for Mo Yuan to gather enough power to wake up (was he REALLY actually dead?) so I assumed while watching the end credits when DH kisses FJ and MY wakes up and gives BQ 'the look', that he remembered being Ye Hua or something, but alas... The third lightning trial they would have gone through together as emperor and emperess of the nine heavens or even masters of Kunlun or something? Either BQ had to lose YH and love him in the first place to realise any romantic feelings whatsoever toward MY, or perhaps let go of MY's body and the past so that his spirit can return to YH's body? Meh. This is the only flawless show that I loved so much I still don't care that none of my ships sailed xD And at the end of the day I do still like Ye Hua anyway. GAH! Omg is there a cure for shippers??

      I had fun with this drama (just like most people who saw it did). But it's not without flaws.
      The first thing to keep in mind is: it's a romance through and through. Everything else has very little logic put in. So if romance is not your thing, definitely steer clear.
      It's only infuriating if you project yourself into the female lead, who is a victim throughout despite her power.
      Otherwise, it's a fun drama, Mark Chao's acting is phenomenal, and the supporting characters are hilarious :DD

    I didnt agree with her speech and I tell you why she said my son gave you everything and you gave him nothing. Seriously? First Bai Quian gave Ye Hua a beautiful son and her unconditional love as Susu. Ye Hua seduced Susu not the other way around even knowing their love will bring a lot of problems. Susu loved Ye Hua unconditionally. Obviously we all have limits. She abandoned her kid twice I dont agree. When Susu jumped in the terrace she knew she had no place in the Celestial world with everyone against her, she knows what they are capable of like removing her eyes!! and also she was in deep depression. No surprise she had postpartum depression women under this kind of stress suffer from mental illnesses so its understandable what she did. When Ye Hua dies she abandons Ali? I believe its not that she abandons him but the Celestial family are providing Ali with the education probably similar than Ye Hua's with Mentors and Teachers and the mother love is not allowed. We should remember that Ye Hua was also separated from his mother at birth and only allowed to be together bc he passed a trial I think so under a very special circumstance. So it seems the celestial education. Bai Quian does not seem to have custodial rights in this matter, she is probably still coming to terms about the whole thing, after she discovered she is Susu. Also it seems that what the gods do in the mortal world count "less" Does Bai Quian feel she is the mother of the child as she was Susu not her when she had him? Why is Bai Quian responsible for a son that Susu had while Susu didnt even know she was Bai Quian so technically Bai Quian is not responsible for what Susu did.

    • @quippequest
      @quippequest  Před 6 měsíci

      Of course, I never said that Lady Lexu's entire speech is correct. I only said here that we should look at the speech from her point of view, which is a mother's point of view.
      And I'm very aware that Bai Qian should not be "blamed" for anything that happens in this drama. This entire story is designed so that Bai Qian is only a victim, not an active pursuer of anything, so how can we "blame" her for anything at all?
      Yes, of course, Bai Qian doesn't seem to have legal custody of Ali. If we want to dissect the matter more, we can ask why Bai Qian and her family would leave the kid in the heaven knowing that he might be subjected to the same treatment Yehua had as a child. During the 3 long years Yehua are dead, you would think that at least one person in that big/powerful fox family would wonder about Ali's wellbeing. But hey at the end of the day, I'm aware this drama wasn't made for deep questions, I'm just pointing out that while Bai Qian has her excuses for everything, other characters do too.
