- After my run streak got me training for 10km race it got me watching ironman & ultra videos. I wanted to see how closer (or should I say far) I could get to the olympic triathlon world record with zero training. Was going to do a marathon without training, but swimming sounded like more fun....big mistake

WEAR YOURE HELMET PEOPLE!!! I royally F’d up, this isn’t my bike I rented one for the challenge and it slipped my mind that I also have to rent the helmet. When I was half way through it dawned on me 🙈🙈🙈 when I start my actual training I will be documenting on here and I PROMISE TO BUY A HELMET 🙏🏼 won’t start the bike training until I do. Clearly it was my first time on a road bike I’m a longggggg time 😅

Great job!! So fun to watch another Vancouver-ite try a triathlon! Crushed it. Because Stanley Park is right on the water, the GPS has issues correctly placing you. It's definitely 10km around :) You should train for the Vancouver Triathlon and beat your own time!

Lol. Tree trunk legs are REAL after riding a bike! It is the strangest sensation to not be able to feel the bounce of running. It feels so flat footed with no idea of your pace. Good job!

As a triathlete it was a fun video to watch! Good job... :) One point because I've had a lot of friends get hit by cars on the road unfortunately,... please wear a helmet when you bike! Not worth the risk plus it shows a good example to your viewer.
Yes I ROYALLY screwed up about that, I rented the bike (its not mine) and forgot to also rent a helmet. NEVER AGAIN promise

This - super important to wear a helmet. Loved the effort!! I did a spring tri once with almost no training (hadn't ridden my bike in 10 years). It went...ok.
And you don't need to get hit by a car to have a hard fall off a bike either. A bad pothole, tough descent or just small loss of balance/concentration

You can do it! There are so many good plans for free available. I recommend to find a race you wanna join first so you have a motivation and date. A date helps breaking down the training units. First thing you always work on is gerenal condition/endurance and technique. Then speed, depending where you start in your journey. Enjoy it!

Open water isn't just oceans! There are lakes and rivers too which all vary on depth, clearness and size. Usually beginner events are in calmer lakes. Most training is done in the pool anyway tbf

I'm super late to this video, but I would love to see a video about your recovery process afterward, especially since you said your hip had significant pain. How did you maintain running while taking care of your body after extreme exertion?
Keltie, I love your energy and your real talk. Question for you, since you use tech to guide your workouts and inform your recovery, have you seen the Form swim goggles that put lap info in the goggle lens? Would you be able to review those at all? I want to know a realistic perspective from a swimmer.

This was badass! The lack of bike helmet made me disappointed but I read in the comments that you know you should have worn one. In terms of why your apple watch didnt record, it might be the gps in the apple watch is not as good as other multisport watches. I think the top ones for triathalon are Garmin and Kronos maybe?

Did my first tri this month and I did train, and it was still awful because there was a heat wave that day. the blisters still haunt me.

But can you explain why electrolytes are so important and what they do to your body? I've been going through an electrolyte imbalance for 2+ years now and struggling to take my meds, so been on and off the hospital with a potassium iv ;v;

Epsom salt baths really helps with muscle pain. A 20 minute soak, but longer is better.
I learned about electrolytes after my first half Marathon race. I thought I would be fine with water. Nope! It was a hot day, I wearing compression leggings as my leg was severely bruised from an accident. They helped me be able to run with minimal pain. Half way through, I started to get a bad headache, muscle cramps, and I felt it was way too hard. I took all the water offered and had water woth me, but I refused an electrolyte drink. Never again. I will take an electrolyte tablet before the race and have a sports drink on me with my water and I'll have a water pack this time too. Apparently, I was severely dehydrated and it took up 40 minites to walk home when it usually takes 15 minutes. My wee was a colour it should never be!
Lesson learned. Two electrolyte drinks and an epsom salt bath later, I felt better. But I needed 3 days to recover. 🤦♀️

You might like cycling better if you had the right set up and the right plan. Seriously, though, no helmet? That's grounds for disqualification right there so I'm curious what charity donation level is suitable for that. I'd suggest maybe a multiple of the time deficit total?? As for triathlon and eventually Ironman training, yes, of course it's possible. There are two secrets to doing an Ironman: (1) riding a lot and (2) running a lot. This is a distance that deserves and demands respect and there are no shortcuts to success. Best of luck and I truly hope that you enjoy the journey.
Apple watches are horrendous for not recording mileage properly. Try a Garmin or Wahoo as they are more accurate
I think you did waaaay more than 40km biking. I used to take about 35 min to do 25km (and i am slooow) (on mtb tho) 🧐
Looking into it it makes sense my watch was losing reception (because my phone does around there) so it was probably a ton I went Hahahha 😭😭

Nope they’re completely different products! I love both, Athletic greens is the best ever greens product in my opinion & LMNT is the best ever electrolyte supplement! Only supplements I use is AG1, LMNT & some protein powders.
I still use AG1 & LMNT ever single morning :)

Probably only said 5km because you've probably lost GPS signal with trees and buildings. Moral of the story; don't use an apple watch for any fitness related things 😃
Apple watches, fit bits, every kind of sports watch are extremely unreliable in their measurements. They're good to compare to your normal benchmark, but they aren't the most reliable tool
