• Am I Ever Gonna See Yo... - Hudba
Even now if this song comes on in a pub, everyone sings this chant😂
Yes!! I’m singing it now 😁
Damn straight bro! It's in our DNA!
My kids are teens now and THEY know that chant- it’s become part of what being Australian is. I remember that chant becoming canon- who tf knows how it started? I felt all kinds of fuzzy seeing this- I encountered Doc on a random train station waaay back in the day in 1983 and he was so down to earth.
It’s genetic - Australians can’t not shout it
Sacrilegious not to
Today's generation still sing the chant. In australia you never hear the song without it. I've been in a supermarket when this has been on the radio - even the kid stacking shelves was mouthing the chant silently, as were many shoppers.... including myself. It's impossible not to😅
😂🏆
amen
I was lucky to see them live in Coolangatta back in the 70’s and they were just amazing. They were such an adrenaline rush
Absolutely!!!
i agree ,as a Australian its hard to not respond with the chant when heard, even under your breath
All the Aussies smiling in anticipation! And laughing that it's staring you in the face written on his T-shirt.
Yes, the Aussie accent is tough.
We used to watch them perform in pubs.
LOL. I'm practically yelling at my screen. "IT'S RIGHT THERE!! LOOK AT THE SHIRT!! IT'S RIGHT THERE!!"
Yep, aussie accent is hard for the yanks. I was in hawaii 12 months ago, and was asking directions to Dukes lane. They thought I was asking juke 😂
@@philhewitt5106 I tried to buy a drink at LAX and the young guy serving asked what language I was speaking so he could get an interpreter. Not kidding.
Exactly Bella, I used to see them at pubs too - great times. 🇦🇺
I saw them around 1980 at a ZZZ Joint Effort at Cloudland in Brisbane. Having the Saints go to the same school was pretty cool as well. It was a great time.
When my uncle passed. This song was played at the service 😂. We went from crying to laughter in seconds. It was great❤
yes i bet, trying not to mouth the words was hard
It was hard. But of course we had thoughts. Looking around the room was the same expression on most faces. My kind of people 😂
The chant is written on the singers t-shirt
I was just about to type the same😂😂
This bloke is not the sharpest tool in the box.
How can anyone not understand what they are saying?
No way, get f#cked, f#ck off. I saw them play live a few times, excellent hard rocking live band. Molly Ringwald, you reckon? 🤣
Aye, but the chant started about 10 years earlier.
As an Aussie boomer - this has a special place in my heart. The Angels were a fantastic pub band that gave it all. Just so good.
saw them live at the croxton park hotel
Boomer have to steal our xgen fun :) . The Angels are among Australia’s legendary bands
Fact. The song had been on the radio for a while, and fans had bough the album, and us Aussies being what we are, created this audience addition. First live performance of the song, the Angels knew nothing about this, and initially thought the audience thought they crap, and wanted them off the stage. By the end of the song, they realised that nope, the audience LOVE the song, and we just like to add inappropriate but perfectly placed stuff in to favourite songs. We also added to “Living Next Door To Alice”, and created a line dance to “Nutbush City Limits.” It is 100% required to retain your True Blue Aussie card to sing the additions, and do the dance at any opportunity.
Lived in regional NSW and then Sydney. Everything you said seems true. I remember yelling "Living next door to Alice" at the nightclub in Wagga. And I hated that line dance. But yes, I did learn it.
Alice? Who TF is Alice?
@@bluebehir ah, The Madison.

@@TheKrispyfort Alice springs it's a very rural town in Australia
Did he just call Doc “clean-cut”?
It says
"no way"
"Get f#cked"
"F#ck off"
😂
When the crowd first started singing this way back when , Doc ( lead singer) said he thought the crowd were singing it about the band😂 and he said he got a little offended, but throughout time he and the band ended up loving it.... There was merch and everything ... I dont know who started it, it was just one of those things that stuck with that song. 🤷 Totally sucked when you'd hear the song in public cause you couldnt sing it properly 🤣✌️
Should have just said read the lead singers Tshirt
@@alexwallace9832 why? Everybody else did that. He " asked" what we are saying.
@@Kimmy58 Why not, that is what the audience was singing.
Cheers from Australia
@@alexwallace9832 🤔🤨 huh? Sorry but you just confused the heck out of me. The audience wasn't chanting that because Doc had it on his shirt.....Doc had that on his shirt because it was just merch. Mike asked what the fans were saying, everyone in the comments just wrote " read Docs shirt" I decided to actually write out what is said. The chant of above is not part of the original song, it's something the fans just put in there. No one knows where it started, it has been around since the 80s. I'm sorry if I'm not understanding you but I'm truly perplexed about what you're trying to tell me. 😂 I hope I clarified it for you, if not, please let me know what you actually meant. 😁
Cheers from north Qld
It started at a show in Mt Isa QLD in 1983. Doc stopped singing in order to hear what they were saying. Quote: "Neeson recalled that he first heard the response at Mount Isa in 1983 and was "a bit shocked."Thinking it was a criticism of the band.
As a proud Aussie, I thoroughly endorse this video 🇦🇺
me too, and i am glad he didn't turn down the video when the crowd yelled the response, lol it's so much better with it
This era of Australian music has no peers period
Facts! The Radiators are still regular on my playlists.
Australia was the Lucky country in the 80's, with the world best music and live bands
We were really spoilt with the calibre of music.
I saw The Angels in a small pub in the 80s and Doc (RIP) treated us to one hell of a show.
I still rock out to them
I saw them a couple of times at the Laverton hotel in Melbourne
I was there.
1988 Melbourne music show, Melbourne Showgrounds
Johnny Diesel and the injectors
The Choirboys
The Angels
Jimmy Barnes
My ears rang for a week- legendary gig
Farnham was there too wasn't he
The Angels were the band at the Savings Bank ofSA Staff Xmas Party in the late 70s. 400 drunken bank officers screaming the refrain will live in my memory forever - great band.
As ex-bank Johnny, I can believe that!
This is a bloody legendary song in Australia!!! I’ve seen them live and they were brilliant with the late great frontman Doc Neeson. So much energy and the crowd was just going wild! Great band with so many excellent songs!! R.I.P. Doc.
Doc Neeson was a World Class Frontman ! Pure charisma !
RIP Doc.
oh hell yes Doc will live forever in our memory
The crowd response is on his shirt lol. The first instance the crowd response was used according to Doc was at a concert in Mt Isa in Queensland. The Angels were the best pub rock band in Australia period. After them I'd say The Radiators
The Radiators are an entirely under-rated and under appreciated band

Chisel? AC/DC? The Oils? The Angels are up there, but come on, mate
One of the best classic pub anthems EVER
The Angels formed in 1976 and the singer "Doc Neeson" died in 2014 at the age of 67. He was the main song writer along with lead guitarist Rick Brewster and his brother John Brewster. They had originally formed in 1970 as an acoustic blues band calling themselves The Moonshine Jug and String Band. In 74 they changed their name to the "Keystone Angels" and in 76 on advice from Harry Vanda and George Young (The Easybeats, and later of Flash in the Pan) shortened their name to The Angels. George Young, one of the greatest musical artists and Producer's in Australian history was the older brother of Angus and Malcom Young of AC/DC.
The song was written as a memorial for a friend who was killed a car accident. The guitar riff is the sirens.
When the crowd first did it, they were shocked and taken aback cos of the subject matter. After a while they embraced it, to the stage where its part of the paraphernalia including on the singlet he's wearing.
It started as a slow ballad in memory of the lost friend..but it failed, so they sped it up..and the rest is History
Angels were the support band at my first concert. Venue was a high school hall in regional Queensland. Headline act was AC/DC. Both of those lead singers have left us now☹️
Same here angels opening act for ACDC in whyalla south aust it was wicked
@@shazwadz5059 Wow! Very cool. From memory they were touring the Dirty Deeds album
@andrewhall9175 it was about 45 years, but I do recall it was a bloody brilliant show and a great way to get out of school😂😂
Well that's fucking EPIC!
We used to see The Angels at our local pub. They were great. Much better than they were performing here, actually. Also Midnight Oil. Peter Garrett jumped on our table at the pub, while he was singing. It was awesome. Australians can't listen to that song without singing the refrain, "no way, get fucked, fuck off". It's our Pavlovian response.
The feeling in the crowd when you hear this live is as good as any concert event
I’ll bet!!
The DJ at the Pink concert in Sydney a week ago played this it went off 😂😂😂
I was on a rock the boat cruise with the Angels they sang this song, us Aussies shouted out our song, on a royal Caribbean ship, security came out from everywhere, they thought we were fighting. What a laugh
Having been on RC a few times I can imagine security come a running lol Too funny.

Fantastic.
And at Berry, down the coast , for the Red Hot Summer tour.
Who was the frontman?
RIP Doc
Red Hot Summer Tour last saturday at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa, for me they left Quatro and Cheap Trick in their wake.
Back in the good old days when music was uncomplicated and FUN!
Aussie anthem
Hey Mike wow some Angels, I saw them live a few times back in the day!! Great Aussie band. Yes Jimmy did a huge set that day and Farnsey did a couple and they did one together.
I had a feeling!! :)
Angry Anderson from Rose Tattoo had a shaved head also.
I noticed that he hasn't got any Rose Tattoo reactions yet. He's gonna love them!
One thing i wish i could see again is see Doc belting it out on stage again. The Angels have always been top 3 greatest performers for me. He still lives on through his music R.I.P. Doc x
For classic pub rock check out The Radiators! They shared a stage with The Angels many times in the 80s and rock the mullet!
Those were the days. Any weekend you could rock up to a pub and see these incredible bands!
I'm from Brisbane Australia its now 2024 I just saw The Angels at Sandstone. And they sang this and the chant was loud like always. Video it too ❤🇳🇿👍😀🇳🇿
LOVED this song as a kid! When I learned the "extra chorus" I was so proud! My folks weren't tho lol
PS Bald guys in 80s music bands in Australia were quite common - Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil) & Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo) come to mind 🤟👍😁🇦🇺
R.I.P. Doc Neeson 😢 Thankyou for such wonderful hits! ❤
TBH when he was saying "you know the bald guy..." I was thinking Angry?
Suddenly ❤
Ah, yes. Peter Garrett, former federal Minister for the Environment
Our Australian Youth's National Anthem from the 80's ... still can't be sung without the audience's collaboration
Saw them in a club. In a small room this song is unbelievable. Amazing live band.
This was the “Rage Without Alcohol” concert at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Crazy concert which included, amongst others, Jimmy Barnes, The Choirboys and The Angels.
I remember it fondly and recall Doc Neilson climbing the scaffolding and speaking in French before this song.
There was also a live cross to a tv show called “Hey Hey it’s Saturday” where Jimmy Barnes told the host to “F**# off”

Showing my age in saying I snuck in and saw the Angels and the Radiators (most popular ditty ..Give me Head) as a 15 year old in the early 80’s at a pub gig in Sydney, and that early we all had the “no way, get fucked, fuck off “ chant going. Peter Garret (Midnight Oil) later was my friend and went on to be Australia’s Minister for the Environment. We Aussies are built different and have never been scared of words ❤
I read this title and i literally read this as "THE ANGELS--Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again- NO WAY GET F#CKED F#CK OFF -Pro Guitarist Reacts"
Anyway, i'm here cos i mentally said the chant just because i saw the name of the song. We Australians are brainwashed with this chant young. Might have been one of the first times i was "aloud" to swear in front of my mum.
Hilarious 😂
And charming. ✌️
@@michaelgoyettemusic love this song it was a joy to watch you enjoy it!
The song was actually written as a tribute to a friend who died. The opening guitar riff is mimicing an ambulance siren. A slowed downed acoustic version is just as good.
RIP Dic Neeson, you were one of the best!!!
Yo. Fun band.
BTW, I couldn't understand the Aussie accent either and had to take a screenshot when the top was in full view before I got it. I love that they adopted the crowd lyric
Not like they had a choice 😂
One of the best Pub Rock Bands in history! Great Live. Check out some more please
'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' (1976) is an adaption of Status Quo's 'Lonely Night'. Members of both bands being friends.
The song, although a crowd pleaser, is not typical of The Angels. I'd highly recommend hearing more of their music.
The call and response, crowd interaction is always popular.... When Smokie first toured Australia they were surprised to find Aussie fans had added a question to the song 'Living Next Door to Alice' (Originally by Aussie band New World)
(Alice! Alice? Who The F*ck is Alice?)
Did you pull all of that out of a hat? The song has nothing to do with Status Quo and Smokie sang living next door to Alice. 🙄
@@leahgabrielle4255
Do you know how to use a search engine?
@@leahgabrielle4255 the above is correct. Found the following on the subject, do yourself a favour and have a listen to Lonely Night.
After British band Status Quo discovered numerous similarities between the song and one of their own ("Lonely Night"), the two bands reached an agreement in lieu of a lawsuit that saw Status Quo receive royalties from "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again".[11] Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster was friends with members of the Angels at the time of the incident, and lived next door to John Brewster. In 2015, Brewster recounted having asked Neeson whether the song could've been based on "Lonely Night" and recalls a non-committal response: "I might have heard it at a disco".
thanks for the reminder.. yes .. Alice! Alice? who .. is Alice? :D )
It’s like every old school rock people would all get together and sing this song word for word as loud as one could and passion lol
I'm an Aussie child of this era. If you merely say the name of this song, someone will say "no way, get fucked, fuck off". Every time.
The "No way - get fucked - fuck off" chant originated in the north-west Queensland mining town of Mt Isa. I lived in Mt Isa for 12 years and it was the most violent town I had ever been in! The Angels must have felt lucky to get out of town in one piece!
Note to self - cross Isa off the list and replace with Gilgandra
the number of times i have belted out the chorus whilst drunk is beyond number. A pub rock classic
Have seen the Angels 3 times in the 80's & 90's.. ❤ the Angels!!
I was working as security at a venue in QLD and Doc got stuck outside a fire exit while the band was playing the intro for the start of the set.
I heard him banging on the door and opened it for him, he thanked me uttered some expletives and ran as fast as he could up the stairs and turned onto the stage.
Doc was a tall bloke and he smashed his head on the lighting rig and knocked himself out cold.
He finally came to and with a cut on his brow smashed out one hell of a show.
Makes me laugh thinking of the expression of relief he had to moments later be Knock the F'k out
Have you heard what Aussies did to smokey's 'living next door to Alice'😂
He definitely wouldn’t understand that either 😂😂
Alice who the fuck is Alice 😂
Smokie were shite.
They are massive absolute legends in the history of the Australian music scene since the 1970’s!
I worked as a roadie with many Australian musicians and had the privilege of constantly running across the Angels in many small local towns where I had the opportunity to sit down and have breakfast/lunch with them whilst on tour playing many different rural towns.
They are an amazing bunch of blokes and I luckily had the privilege of experiencing Doc Neeson performing at the very last Western Australian concert only weeks prior to his death.
Thank you for your service!! ❤️
Best Angels song to get the blood pumping. I first saw the Angels in 1980. You can't not be a fan. Throughout the decades The Angels have remained on my playlist. And it was only two years ago that I again got to see them in concert. I once again got to sing the chant to - Am I ever gonna see your face again -'No way get f*ked, f*k off'. Can't tell you what an untold moment it was. So very powerful being surrounded by Baby Boomers all screaming our heads off like we did when we were teens. Magical!!
Great band
Seen them in multiple times in 80s & 90s
RIP Doc
The band that caused most of my deafness. The song was recorded by them in 1977. This line-up had only two original members. Singer Doc Neeson and lead guitarist Rick Brewster. The band is from Adelaide, South Australia (my hometown). I think the bassist is playing a Steinberger bass.
Saw the angels twice at the Charles Hotel in Perth , it was awesome !
Wasn't there some great pub bands that went through The Charles Hotel. I was so excited to find The Charles when I moved to Perth from Brissy. Loved going to watch pub bands like Cold Chisel, INXS, Jo Jo Zepp and Falcons. Even Frankie J Holden. These days I love Foo Fighters as do my neighbours lol I just love music. Nothing like blaring rock music. My adult son, shit Mum can you turn it down lol

Yep most of us have seen the Angels many times. They've been around since the middle 70s. I've seen them in pubs & concerts.
Yes they are legendary.

Aussies knew what you were talking about re the chant the second we saw what song it was! Lol
That chant alone could be our national anthem here! Lmao
Still love this song. It came out when I lived on the streets in Queensland in my teens. If it came on anywhere at all, I didn't care, I always sang the additional crowds response out loud 😂. Aussie cult classic.
As a old Aussie it was released like that even on the radio and then some ppl complained about the swearing so they cut it out from the song but we all still sing it like that
I first saw the Angels in about 1978 at Cabramatta(?) Them and the oils were the best pub bands to see back in the day.
Saw the Angels in venues right across Sydney many, many times. The pub shows were the best.
Bob Spencer on the axe and bald head. Definitely my fave Aussie rock guitarist
When Australians are over seas and they want to connect with other Aussie folk. They go to the pub and put this song on the jukebox. Wait for the response. All Australians react this way to this song. Find your people. 😊
These guys played in my high school gym/hall. I had no idea how significant that was at the time, how huge they were. It was Angels + Angry Anderson / Rose Tattoo (I know, right?). Free entry, I mean, we were what, 12? 13? Something like that.
Everybody knew the chant, I had never heard it before, but I remember yelling it as loud as I could. It's just so simple and rhythmic.
I have no idea how my regional high school in the middle of bumfuck nowhere got these guys to do a show.
I'm just grateful to have seen them
One of the best aussie bands ever I saw them at thebby theater in adelaide south australia back in 86 I reckon and still have a piece of the stage decoration doc threw out into the crowd. Still crank up their tunes everyday.
He asks the question - "Am I ever gona see your face again?"
and the crowd answers him "No way, Get F@cked, F@ck off!"
The Angels are awesome, the lead singer is crazy
The bass is, I believe, a Steinberger Bass. This is an anthemic song. Any Aussie from that age who hears the song name knows the proper response. It basically became a reflex action.
I made sure my kids know the proper response. Got to pass on traditions.
His shirt has what the crowd is chanting on it LOL. Always loved these guys. Still have their first album. Johnny Winters use to play a small guitar like that guy.
I think the term pub rock means they can play live, and it rocks.
Its from playing in pubs. Thats where most live bands made their way up back in the days. Unfortunately its hard to find somewhere that has decent live bands now days.

Awesomeness the angels have great songs
Yo. I was there. I’m a Melbournian. We sung, “ No way, get f’ed, f’ off.😃😅
Doc Neeson wrote the song about a friend of his who passed away but not knowing this context Angels fans took it as a break up song, thinking it was about a guy wanting to see his ex-girlfriend and the chant is basically an Aussie girl telling her ex where to go... (Not sure that Peter Garrett, lead singer of Midnight Oil, had much choice about the bald head thing)
That's brilliant context and makes it all make sense.
Can't believe it's written on Doc's shirt and he doesn't see it
The Angels, formerly known as Keystone Angels wrote this in 1977. They would do lunchtime concerts around Adelaide (South Australia) suburban high schools. The call and response didn't really happen till the early/mid 80s..as far as I know.
The Angels are still together ( without Doc, of course) and touring Australia right now.

G'day folks. As a teenager growing up in Melbourne I saw them at a pub that is sadly no longer here. Sweaty, loud, confronting, and the beers were an absolute steal!
I always thought it was, "no way, get stuffed, fuck off."
Hi mate great live band one of my favs in the 70s saw them one Sunday then again monday , 50 miles away
I was 17 when I went to my first concert in 1980. Angels were headlining and Cold Chisel were the support band. Awesome night with Doc and Jimmy trying to outdo each other, but Jimmy climbing all over the speakers with a bottle of Vodka in his hand was a sight to behold 😄
Chisel opened for Angels? Wow.
It is a dark song.
Someone started yelling 'No Way, Get F**ked, F**k Off' after Doc asks 'Am I ever going to see your face again'. And it is the worst thing that ever happened to the song.
Several times I have stood in the crowd shaking my head as people around me screamed out the profanities. Doc would look at me and sing towards me because I understood what the song was about even in the days before the internet and before I could afford to buy music magazines. For some reason I just understood it from the beginning when I heard the original slow version.
Anyway, for those wondering why it is a sad song, here is a couple of lines from Wiki.
Neeson said that the song was originally written as an acoustic ballad about grief and loss. The girlfriend of Neeson's friend was killed in a motorcycle collision, and the two friends were discussing life after death. The conversation inspired Neeson to write the lyrics.
Loving that he has the addition written on his shirt 😂
It started in a pub in Mt Isa, an inland mining town in the state of Queensland.
Haha Mt Isa is where I saw the angels, opening for Jimmy Barnes at a concert as a teenager back in the 80’s
I was definitely there..
Saw these guys a few weeks ago in Perth, Western Australia so old (oldest rock ‘n’ roll band from Australia) but they still rock hard !!
Look at that older guy in the crowd halfway through the video with the moe and beard and glasses turned around looking at the crowd shouting "NO WAY GET FUCK OFF" He does look impressed 😂
Aussie pub rock era is the greatest ever era in music
the Australian response to the question when its sung " Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again" Australian crowds were the 1st to make up the response " no way, get fu-k--d, f-ck off!” " The lead guitarist said the band was bemused and played the song the next night in Cairns “to see what would happen”. and got the same response, it went world wide and is now the response heard whenever it is sung to a crowd
I aaw them in a pub and when Doc sang Dogs Are Talking, he pointed at me when he sang "there are guys hanging out to meet girls like you". I was stoked. Thanks, Doc, RIP.
I recommend listening to the album No Secrets, I reckon it's their best.
I’m Australian & meet one of the roadies for the Angels a few weeks before they left to tour Canada in 1980. I was travelling to Canada at the same time. Met up with the roadie in Toronto, got free tickets to see the Angels in a little bar & my girl friend & I were the only two people in the club that knew all the words to their songs. BTW they went under the name of Angel City in Canada because there was another band in Canada called The Angels I believe. What a time to live in Australia in the 70’s & 80’s here in OZ ❤
Great story! ❤️
Imagine 300+ high school kids screaming this at the top of their voices at a school dance…..and the teachers either turned their backs, or actively encouraged them! Btw this was in mid ‘80s Australia
