This makes perfect sense to me and a very practical demo and explanation. Will be thinning out my hostas this weekend and making sure I dig around the ‘drip line’ 👍🏻 Thanks for your advice.

      Search for “trenching shovel”

This is about as good as I could find. I think I got the one in the video over 10 years ago at John Deere Landscapes now Site One. Even then I think it was around $200

Any tips for keeping the slugs and snails at bay, Plant Dr? They decimate my poor hostas 🐌 🐌

Beer. Put out a saucer plate with maybe a half inch of beer in it. The fermentation smell will attract them. They will crawl into the beer, get drunk, and die. I've never tried it but I have seen it done. I have personally used diatomaceous earth and it works great.

@@Dr.Warren I’ve heard of beer traps but not diatomaceous earth; every day’s a school day. A quick bit of research on the web and now on the back of ordering some. Thank you 😊 🌱

How old does a hosta be before you divide it

Just enough to have a few "clumps" to divide out.
