- Quel rossor ch’in volto miri from the opera Motezuma, RV 723
by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
Romina Basso, mezzo-soprano
Il Complesso Barocco
Alan Curtis, conductor
Quel rossor ch’in volto miri
non accusa il mio rispetto,
e non sono i miei sospiri
contrassegni di timor.
Le tue glorie anch’io secondo,
ma più dolce ti vorrei,
che ammirasse tutto il mondo
la pietade e il tuo valor.
Those blushes which you see on my face
do not belie my respect,
and my sighs are not
tokens of fear.
I, too, uphold your honour;
but I would like you to be more temperate,
that the whole world may admire
your compassion and your valour.

Squarcio luminoso di bellezza e cultura in tempi incerti e cupi. Grazie
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed this. Music certainly provides comfort during this uncertain time.
@@JeffreyStivers I most certainly did. We need to be reminded of the need for mutual help and sharing culture, to get the deep resonating truth of that need and of the possibility of beauty and good prevailing. Thanks again
Romina is one of my mainstay singers. I am never let down by anything she sings.

You welcome, dear Tomàs. I’m glad you enjoyed this.
Jeffrey 👏👏👏
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Wow! I never knew Vivaldi had written an opera about an Aztec ruler! But the image depiction looks more like Cuauhtémoc ( because of the eagle helmet, and shield), rather than Montezuma.
Vivaldi’s Motezuma was long considered a lost opera, but in 2002 a German musicologist discovered an incomplete copy in Berlin. The missing portions were reconstructed by Vivaldi scholar Alessandro Ciccolini for this CD. It’s a fantastic recording that I highly recommended. The miniature that appears in the video is identified as Montezuma by the artist.
"Tante grazie" (grands mercis) pour ces partages dédiés à Vivaldi. Take care et attention au néo coronavirus.
