I used the word cheap while in Puerto Vallarta in front of a local… my heart sunk with guilt. The local said “cheap to you but very expensive to us”.
I tell you, I was very contentious of my tone and selective of my words after that. And this was in talking with an artist who owned his own studio.

Thank you for acknowledging that because many foreigners who move to Mexico refer to things as 'cheap'. Definitely not the perspective for many locals...I've trained my brain to use the words: affordable, inexpensive, etc and at the moment the US dollar is getting weaker in Mexico, so things are definitely pricer than they used to be. less expensive is better than cheap.
It's true. Just because it is cheap for you because you have dollars and a convenient exchange rate, does not mean that it is cheap for all Mexicans. PLEASE be very careful with those expressions, because expressions like these can make things even more expensive.
Better to use terms like "It seems like a good price to me" "It seems like a fair price to me" or simply stay silent and say nothing. For a Mexican, it IS very annoying that others say that something is "cheap" when for us it may be something inaccessible. Please be aware of the situation of the local people.
I was born and raised in Texas. I have lived in Atlanta for 30 plus years. I have been following Stephanie the house sitter lady for years. She introduced me to San Miguel de Allende on her video and I felt drawn to it. As a single person I wonder if I can navigate something like this alone so I live vicariously thru you all.

Mexico City has hospitals that take Insurance from the USA and other countries where you either don't pay anything or a small percentage depending on your plan. And at least one in Mexico City is Mayo Clinic certified and happens to be the #1 hospital in the country. I had a life and death brain surgery in Mexico City and my insurance paid 100%. I had no out of pocket expenses and I was in the hospital 3 weeks! Some of the hospitals accept Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care and a bunch more.
I got beaten up so badly by racists in Mexico (thinking I was a white Gringo) that I was left for dead in the street. The ambulance crew robbed my gold chain round my neck. I came to for about 2 seconds when they lifted it over my head as it had no clasp and I was wearing a suit and tie and on my way home from a baby shower; I could never have picked the guy out again because there was too much blood in my eyes, and they were almost glued shut, plus I drifted straight back to unconsciousness. It was a gift from my ma and pa and I always said anyone would have to kill me to rob me of it. And I WAS nearly killed, but it wasn't the thugs who robbed me, it was the supposed Samaritans. The next day my girlfriend (now mother of our two children) rang the ambulance service who said "What the Hell are you saying? Do you think we're in the business of robbing our patients?" She said "Sip, mi novio no es un mentiroso. Se fue con su cadena de oro y volvió sin su cadena."

I am from Mexico and I went to play chess at Las Vegas several times. I realized something about many american people, when a very strong Grand Masters arrived from Mexico or other latinoamerican country, they press always call them Latín GM Hernández for example, instead GM Hernández only.

Im glad you folks found a second home in Sam miguel . Im more of a city guy and my wife snd I have opted for the city of guadalajara. We love the theater and all that comes with a diverse city.we will be 4 hrs from vallarta and only minutes from lakes and the forest . The airport is only 30 minutes away also.

That's awesome! How has your experience been since living there? My goal is to move to Chapala because I'm not a beachy person, but enjoy cooler, mountainous areas more. I wish American Airlines flew to GDL because I receive airline discounts. I guess I'll have to opt for United.
@@ReginaDillard chapala is kind of played out i live 45 minutes from there don’t go there often .there is a place call Tapalpa which is a bit further from Chapala its way nicer if you like cooker weather
Word of advice when in Mexico…never say how things are cheap in front of locals. It may be cheap to you but expensive to the locals as expats have gentrified certain towns and long time residents have to move out because expats have driven the prices UP and can no longer afford to live in a town they grew up in.
Agreed. I usually say less expensive, however newbies and guests of the show are still finding their path and figuring out how best to be more aware. Thank you for watching.

Everybody would love to learn a bit about my hometown “Yanga” in Veracruz, Yanga was a slave from Gabon Africa who was a rebel and finally found this town as the very first town free from slavery in whole America, we don’t call ourselves African-Mexican, we are Mexicans and the whole country knows that but also we know our own history, everyone is welcome in Mexico as a brothers
Appreciate your insights and terminology corrections. As global citizens, recognizing our heritage is essential. Being acknowledged for the country of birth is a blessing, provided acceptance and acknowledgment of our heritage. For many of us, this hasn't been the case. The involuntary arrival of Black people in the US complicates the sense of brotherhood, shaped by history and time. Mexico shares a parallel history. Whether due to lack of acknowledgment or awareness, our common origin remains, shaped by historic outcomes. I am always grateful for the grace and acceptance we've received in Mexico and is the reason I feel most at home here. I will definitely visit "Yanga" and Veracruz, soon. Thank you for watching.

Earthquakes were the deal breakers for Acapulco, but over 60 years visiting that beautiful city. Queretaro includes a beautiful furnished apartment, that includes all utilities, wifi, maid and security,but she stil better be ALERT, and I speak Spanish as a second language, since age 14.
The second President was of African ancestry. Vicente Guerrero. Cuahiniculapa, Gro is 99 % African/Mexico. A wonderful museum there..
And I did not know this prior to moving to Mexico... Haven't been to Acapulco yet, however it's on my long list. Thank you for sharing & watching,

This is not the first time that Mexico has welcomed African Americans. This goes back centuries. I am extremely happy that African Americans are finding peace and happiness in my favorite country.
Mexicans appreciate our love of their country.
Portugal has been terrible to black folks and doesn't deserve us, if you ask me. We shouldn't reward those who oppress us.
Truth. Mexico and Afro everyone have a long history together. I love living here and being received.

Already is…at the same time, expensive is often in the choices we make, how we live, where we shop, the places we go to. In this regard, Mexico has choices and will continue to be a reason to consider it. Rent can be $350us or $3,000us. Still a choice.

Fortunately, the mindset is a bit different here...
You can have hand guns at home and yes you can protect yourself and your family st home but it's illegal to carry conceal or not. It's also easy for the police and military to distinguish criminals if they see someone armed in public they know they up to no good and they be ready to engage them

Mexico got much of its modern culture from Black moors that introduced music, agriculture, cuisine, foods, and domestic animlas jnto Spain then the Spaniards brought it to Mexico. Horchata, Tamarindo, candied fruits, birria with goat meat, Spices, candied fruits, African dresses baile folklorico sre directly from Africa to name a few. Tiled architecture is from Africa as well. Cumbia and Corridos are from black latinos therefore so is regional mexican music. Non of this is from Aztecs or Native mexicans. The fillings for modern tacos is from African style cuisine not Aztecs.

African Americans like Mexico and feel confortable there, really? I’m Mexican, and I lived in Oakland, California for 30 years. I never saw African Americans interested in other cultures and most of the time were uninterested, and rude.

Please do not infect “AfroMexicans” with the same hatred and mistrust that afflicts most African Americans. The one drop rule does not apply in Mexico. My family is tri-racial, and we might look diferente from each other, but still consider ourselves Mexicans.
@@juliamccarthy6695 - We definitely do not clump the AfroMexican with he AfroAmerican experience, however most of us are surprised at how little we learned in the US about the history or awareness. Never taking away the pride behind being Mexican.

I was born in Chicago in 1942, and I came to Mexico in 1962, and I started learning Spanish at 14. I am fluent in Spanish, Polish, Russian, Arabic, German, and Bahasa Indonesia.
I will be 81 in October 2023. 27 days older than biden, but not senile yet. I am honest and not GREEDY.

I started at age 15 and now at 80, I have journaled.* I used the wired notebooks and legal pad, audio, and video.
I do fill up
both sides of my journals and can mix years. I traveled, married twice an had one aughter at 37 I help non beggars help themselves.
Carry frozen water bottles to keep cool on your skin, and for fur babies, and to give to others.

I live in Mexico, and I did buy emergency pesos, when i came here in 2021. Starting July 13, I will use my emergency pesos to pay rent for the next 5 months. My rent went from $673 per months to$874 per month for the same apartment, that I love. It does include all utilities, wifi, maid and security, and 100% beautifully furnished. My pensions comes on a USA debit card, and ATM fees are refunded. I always stock up on 6 months preps.
I paid $1900 per month for everything when i left the deadly and expensive USA at 79 in 2021. I do not want a Mexican banl account for it would be hard for my American family to get my savings.
Queretaro, but always be alert anywhere. Merida is too hot, and Acapulco had too many earthquakes.

Queretaro works for me. Safe, Cool, and I have local friends.
Singaporean laws. Send all criminals from top to bottom to Ukraine and Sudan. Fentanyl tablet for all killers and rapists. Shave heads of males and females with felonies.
Leave the USA.
I worry about nothing, but that is how I am. I am retired, and at the age of 79 I do not need money from anyone, for I am a giver to non beggars, so they can help themselves. I do not like beggars, or scammers asking for loans or donations.
Keep your USA income, and just visit the different countries on vacation time. Never depend on donations. Help non beggars help themselves. Do not use any drugs. Trust only GOD. Keep written, audio, and video journals. Be married, even if you have separate homes, if you want sex and a baby after 35 for women, and 45 for me. You need your own space.
Queretaro works for me, after over 60 years visiting and living part time, and WORKING in the USA, Live where you can afford, and you are happy with the climate, safety etc.
Send all criminals from the supreme court on down to Ukraine and the Sudan,

I moved to Queretaro on 11-2-2021, and I am loving this city, and have lived in the same beautiful apartment, since day 1. At 79, I will stay here, until I die, and I will never take a test, pills, or injections, for I know my body. I am too old for visa runs, and I do have a highly recommended man, that will work for me. to get the temp retirement visa.
The people here have been super kind and respectful, and I am the same towards them. I do not have to walk, for I have many new friends with cars.
I wish the best for both of you, and so happy, that I worked from 7-70, and my pension supports me much better , than in the USA and it is safer, cleaner, and $850 less per month.
Mexico has been my favorite place, since I visited in 1962 at age 20, and fell in love with Acapulco, but not the 6 earthquakes, that I have experienced there and one hurricane.
I do speak Spanish as a second language. I love my own chicken wings etc. lol

I can live anyplace in the world, but since I am more familiar with my next door neighbor(Mexico), i am comfortable here. I am USA Muslim, and Africans are everywhere.
My DNA is African, First Nation, and Scottish. (grandfather). God has been great to me, and I am so thankful.

Happy I do not have to beg on here or anywhere. I left the USA, because USA was not safe and too expensive. I was born in Chicago, so I was trained to TCB from a baby. You still must be alert to all people as individuals., like in the USA. I am next door to SMA. QUeretaro.
