Disassembling an FL style front end isn't favorite job to do, but for a better than stock suspension it would be worth the time and effort.
Understood. This job took over five hours. It’s amazing how editing can make something look so easy!
wow.. i can really appreciate the care and meticulousness of the mechanic that did this work.. wish i had a friend like that.
will see if there was another video after the break in.
Been awhile good ta see ya Trip
Thanks my good friend. I’m back with a vengeance! 🙂
I really liked how he set and used an electronic torque wrench
The mechanic, Steve, is great. Very thorough and very careful with the bikes he works on.
Now I witnessed your Love on TWO Wheels! You really deserve the new one! Its really the good one. Very informative video and very useful.
Thank you very much!
My 14 inch legends really made my Iron 1200 a lot more pleasurable to ride. I'm so glade I bought them. Worth every penny.
They are pricey but the results are great. Keep an eye out for my review video coming soon!
WOW ! I was looking for legend suspension on a 2015 Heritage Softail I just Bought , turns out I now own this bike ! seeing all the work you have done . i have no Questions . I wanted to lower the rear one inch but . i was told it cant be done with this kit. I was told to get the air kit for the rear. All in All , The bike is a Dream Ride . Im very happy. thanks for the legend ride
Hey Juan! Glad you got my old bike from Cowboys HD! Please email me at tripp at trippontwowheels dot com. I want to tell you a couple other things about the bike you don’t know about. Shoot me your phone number and I’ll call you. -Tripp
Awesome video as usual! Mechanic did an awesome job! Looking forward to watching your review on your new suspension on the bike.
Hi guys
I wish I was back on a motorcycle, I gave it up after numerous close calls; and added pressure to stop from my wife. Legend suspension is hands down the best upgrade over the stock Showa Junk. Be sure to upgrade your rear brake pedal to a Softbrake. Enjoy the ride, take it on Twisted Sisters, unforgettable ride.
I hear ya. I do my best to avoid traffic, bad roads and crap weather. Sorry to hear about giving up the bikes. Will ride the sisters again soon, should be a whole new experience.
What’s a soft brake ?
Very well done video…great editing. Enjoy the new suspension!
Thanks much! This video required a TON of editing.
Great install Tripp.... Man your gonna love the ride now.... That's one of the best upgrades I've done and what a difference in the ride.... Day and night difference from the stock suspension brother💯👊🏽😎
Got 200 miles on her so far. If the dang weather would clear up I’d have had her broken in already! Good to hear from ya bud.

A smashing video, clear, concise and most enjoyable to watch. Nice one Matey.

One of the best suspension upgrades you can do glad your having fun on that bike my friend!
Thanks Brandino! You da man!

Nice How-To video! Now I just need to get another bike!
Thanks! Schwinn? 🙂
I don't understand why suspension would be a big deal on a Harley. I have a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. Mine had tubeless tires, which IS a big deal. It also has aftermarket slip on mufflers which sound great, which is also a BIG deal. I've also added hard leather saddlebags with Easy Brackets, and a backrest, to which I can strap a T bag. A few other very minor things. I bought it in almost new condition way back in 2003. And to my knowledge, it still has the original shocks, at least they look original, set to the highest preload setting, because I weigh 240 pounds and I don't want it bottoming out. I have replaced the steering head bearings and changed the fluid in the forks. The fork internals are also original, to the best of my knowledge. It has 67,000 miles on it. It rides just fine. Seat is also original.
The answer is probably something like this: One can be very happy with a good steak, until he tries a good lobster. Nothing wrong with the steak, but there are better options. Ride safe friend!
That guy really knows what he’s doing! 🤯
He sure does. Steve the mechanic is top notch.
I like his style, no swearing, no ego, a good work ethic. I feel like I should be paying Steve to watch this video. I'm an instant subscriber this channel. Thumbs up from the south west coast of the island of Australia :)
Yes lol
This is called WRENCHING, ALL Harley owners are 🔧 wrenchers.
He's a trained HD technician of course.
Trip on 2 wheels jumped on your bus and great video my friend and shared you on my community tab I love Harleys they sound so good
Thanks Yankee! Much appreciated!
It’s hard to describe how sweet these Axio’s are….. my feeling is that when you’re matching the legend rear with the legend front end, is that they simply “dance together”…… best upgrade ever.
Good job, we just did this job on a slim. Word to the wise, change your trans fluid while you have the shocks off. Trust me on that one when you go to change it with the Legend's installed
How do you change transmission fluid after, I can’t even get a 1/4 inch allen between the shocks? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Nice work man
Thanks Burgmeister!
Wooooo! Waiting for 1million views! Congratulations
Nice video!! Always a good thing to see a competent wrench man doin' his thing!!

Taken a lot of care. Good to see the tools being done by good ol hand wrenching
Mechanic’s name is Steve. He’s a damned good one Outie. Good to see ya bud.
Excellent detailed step-by-step description. I like the way this mechanic works minus gloves. I was surprised at how involved was stripping the front end, and I thought that working on my Vespa was complicated in parts.
Thanks much! This install was very lengthy and detailed. So happy I didn’t do it myself. Great mechanic. So thorough and careful with the bike.
I was a government fleet services mechanic for 41 years. Retired last year at 62. I almost never wear gloves. I don't mind getting my hands dirty. Gloves prevent you from being able to feel things properly. Try playing a piano or a guitar wearing gloves. There are a FEW times when gloves are a good idea, to prevent serious damage to your hands, but that doesn't include anything here. I actually wash the grease and oil off my hands with gasoline. No, my skin isn't perfect, but not bad for my age. Working on mechanical things was not only my profession for 41 years, but it is also a lifelong hobby. You can't do stuff like this for a lifetime and expect to have beautiful hands. My hands and arms are covered with scars. It's part of the deal. I am proud of having only one tattoo, a USMC emblem on my left arm when I graduated from basic in 1977.
Real men seldom use gloves
@@kingjames1586 Aaron Judge just called. He laughed.
@@kingjames1586 I never use gloves because bare-handed I have a much better feel for things. Oily hands are no problem as there is plenty of water and Swarfega. If that makes me a more "real man" then this is an additional bonus!
That is a skilled set of hands.
Steve and B-Radz Kustomz is great. Good to hear from you Kris!
Skilled man for sure. Great video..
I like it. I might do this to my softail!
Go for it!
Great video. Not to nitpick, but manual says to put some anti seize on those bolts used to secure the rear shocks.
Awesome step by step video. Will be doing upgrades on my Fatboy Lo soon as she desperately needs it also.

You’re more than welcome Jim. Review video coming out soon!
Excellent video, great camera work. Many thanks for sharing this Mr Tripp. I think a suspension upgrade could be on my shopping list to improve my twin-cam Softail Slim. I'm not sure if I should go for Legends or another brand of componentry, so I'll have to research that one.
Hopefully I’ll have my review video out soon to help with your research. I like it so far but want to get it broken in before my conclusions. Thanks for your kind words Jonathan. Ride safe!

I always thought that it would be a bitch working on the front forks of a Harley unless it was a Dyna. This Top mechanic just proved how time consuming and technical it is.The first time that I've seen the front forks took apart on an FL.Always enjoy watching a good mechanic work on a bike.I used to work on my own motocross bikes when I used to race decades ago but they were a whole lot simpler.👍
Thanks Mark! Yes, Steve is an awesome mechanic, and it’s evident even in a highly edited video. Thanks for watching!

Great watching a pro. How long did the installation take?
4-5 hours. Steve is indeed a pro.
I'm trying to install them on my 2007 Softail Springer CVO, I'm wondering if you had any clearance issues with the top of the shock and the bottom of the transmission case on the right one.
Yes. Was a long and tedious process. Edited about 20 minutes of struggling out!
I’m going to ditch the softail and put a swing arm on. Can’t get it high enough with the softail but that’s my preference.. good video thank you for posting

Amazing! Your the one
Do you know if your 2015 had that "bending valve" suspension as found on the M8 newer versions? Do you think your air ride suspension is better than the M8 stock softail?
Thanks.
I don’t believe it had the bending valve, and yes, Twin Cam with Legends on front and back was vastly improved vs stock. It’s tough to compare vs the M8 version as there were so many improvements in the M8. When in doubt, get the M8 and put legends on it! 🙂

so? how much did you spend on accessories? What was the cost of the mechanic who did all the work ?
What was the grand total for the completed product?
curious what the total cost of suspension and installation was
Wow! A lot involved taking apart the forks. Seems like changing the fork seals would have been a good idea. Imagine doing all that work and then the seals leak a week later...
The front fork seals were less that a year old when this work was done.
Wow nice motor bike
You still not have installed the fork wind deflectors 🤔 I have them on my Softail Heritage and they do make a big difference in reducing wind buffeting from below 🤗
It’s never going to happen. Traded in the Deluxe. 😞
Talking us through each step - what your doing, tool used (incl. bit size etc), things to look out for, tips etc, - would be more useful.

I’m not the mechanic in this video, but he is very experienced and excellent at what he does.
I see you know what your doing .. Do you have Any recommendations for a 2011 wide glide with respect to rear suspension?
Thanks Ralf! Both Legend Suspensions and Ohlin make great suspensions for TC Dynas, both coil and air shocks. Both options are pricey. Good luck and let me know what you end up doing.
@@trippontwowheels Thanx for your advice...
I have heard about Ohlins and yes they are pricy , so I think I have to dig a bit deeper into this topic...
The other Option would be to go for the New softail standard ... I had the Chance to make a test ride last year and the suspension really convinced me even Stock, its such a smooth ride ...
Anyway , I ll let you know to what it came down to finally...
Thx and have a good time!

Are you happy with the change?
I changed the suspension of my 2020 Deluxe to Ohlins suspension front and rear, but had to change the springs in the front 3 times and rear once, because the spring rates were not correct.
As a bike technician, I could do that by myself. Now the bike runs perfect.
On the other hand, it was really disappointing that Ohlins offered me equipment which didn't work correctly and I had to develop it by myself.
And the price for this equipment is not cheap.
Regards from Austria.
So far, so good! However, I’ve only ridden the bike about 200 miles with the Legends installed and they need to break in yet. Also, the stock seat is doing me no favors. Will do a comprehensive review once I’ve got 600 miles or so. Austria is beautiful, it’s been many years but the times I’ve traveled there I absolutely loved it. Ride safe Wolfgang!

Did it increase the ground clearance? If you want to increase it what can you do?
It doesn’t affect the ground clearance at all. You can only adjust ride preload, not ground clearance to the best of my knowledge. If it does, it’s so slight I never noticed.
