The use of masking tape just became a huge game changer for me. I can't sculpt, but I can twist rip and tear... Lol Thank you for that tip.
Awesome! Glad to have helped, and it looks more in scale thickness wise
It's a great tip! Simply rip and tear until it is done.
I immediately thought “Wtf are they doing? This will look like crap”. It turned out really well and I’m sold.
@@thepaintingphase Mate i love this series, will you continue it for other factions? Like Chaos renegade marines, space marine chapters? Some of the lesser known ones would be awesome, successors etc
Xenos too, Nids etc would all be really cool to see series of these
Awesome content mate!
Masking tape is versatile stuff actually, for example if you want to make flags and banners, just take a bit of tin foil and cover both sides with masking tape, you can then shape it however you want and paint it to suit your army
Been painting on and off since 1986... yet I still always learn something from these videos. Particularly liked the masking tape cloth. Kudos guys.
For Blood Pack, the blooded Kill Team and the Cadian shock troop kits actually mix together really well. Not just head swaps but mixing bodies arms etc. It's all the same size and you get a nice mix of the raggedy chaos stuff and the well organised military unit.
Congrats on your victory over the word "foliage" Peachy
😂😂😂 phew it was a tough battle though
The tape on the minis is an absolute stroke of genius.
Peachy they ain't paying you enough brother 🤣
I have another top for those cloaks on the Tanith. Before you prime it, give it a thinned coat of PVA glue - you won't be able to thin it too far because masking tape is slightly absorbant and you might find that it sags. But if you thin the PVA down to a similar consistency to layer paints and then coat the cloak, this will basically turn the masking tape cloak into a plastic cloak. I use this technique for making home made banners
Cool.
Fantastic Tanith, the capes look great!
I’d recommend to anyone doing Praetorians to look up 3rd party pith helmet heads at
Anvil industries
Victoria Miniatures
Atlantic Wargames.
They have the best ones. Atlantic will require green stuffing the necks tho.
Used Anvil industries head (and bodies) for my Praetorian Guard Kill Team - like how they look like
Ditto on Wargames Atlantic. They make fine Praetorians, including arms holding cups of tea. (They also have the ever popular Les Grognards, for replicating Vostroyans. On another note, I'm partial to using their Afghan kit as Tallarn, myself.).
I love the extra emphasis Peachy uses when saying "Oily Steel". It's like he was really enjoying saying that. "When your done with that, just punch it up with Oiiilyyy Steel." I can imagine him raising his eyebrows every time. Haha!
The tuft bearskin concept is such a good idea. Never would have crossed my mind to try something like that. Keep up the good work 👏 definitely like the kitbash "How to add Variety to your army" videos and going through the paint process. If you have a part 3 with more regiments, I'm sure everyone would love to see it. Request that you get the new Cadian Command Squad and maybe kitbash and convert to show people how to make some cool vets etc for people who might want to get more than one Compat Patrol
Hands down one of the best IG conversion videos out there. Thank you!!
Great kitbashes and conversions. it's great to see so many people offering great alternatives and tricks. But since these are all just head swaps, it pains me that after all these years, GW still haven't released a line of regiments upgrade sprues.
Thinks i can't get my head around: Upgrade Kits for Tau: Plastic Farsight shoulder Pads for Infantry and Suits. Cyclic Ion Blaster or general Tau weapon sets especially for Chrisis suits. Different Heads and Insignia for the different Imperial Guard Regiments. Upgrade Kit for the new Horse Riders for Tallarn or Death Korps of Krieg and lastly: Upgrade sprew to convert Jackals into Imperial Guard Bikers.
The masking tape cloak/cape 🤯 Always fun to learn something when I tune in! Great stuff, as always
Thank you! Cheers! 😍👍
Great video! I really like the look of the Blood Pact. I'll have to figure out a way to work that into my painting backlog lol
I have waited for this one. Love it. Always awesome to see Guard conversions.
Absolutely love this. Going to try the Tanith on a squad :) would love to see a part 3 that does even more converting such as how to do steel legion and maybe greenstuff the trench coat or something (pleeeeease) 😎👍
Man I love this series. I like how they cover so much and it isn't super fastidious. Feel like I learn tons.
Thank you for this peachy! I have always loved the ghosts
I still hope one day we'll get to see you cover the Vitrian Dragoons. While I love the soliders of Tanith, the Dragoons were one of the most interesting parts of First and Only to me.
Yeah, honestly I was gonna do them, but the others got more votes, but it’s certainly something worth revisiting
Absolutely phenomenal video. Best one you’ve done so far, excited to see what comes next 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it!
What I like the most about the Blood Pact is HOW they worship Khorne. Yes, they do the whole blood for the blood god thing but they also remember that Khorne is also a big fan of military disciplin and strategy, something 99% of the Khorne worshipers forget the moment they decide to worship Khorne. For Khorne that is as important as blood and skulls, a well executed plan and a disciplined army that can take a city or planet without killing almost everyone is just as exciting. But that aspect of him isn't something GW likes to show that much :/
Ooh nicely pointed out, great comment thanks 👍
"What I like the most about the Blood Pact" - Yes, Commissar. That one there.
@@smoketinytom jokes on him because Khorne doesn’t care about who spills the blood, all he cares about is that it’s spilt. So an execution would just make the Commissar a Khorne worshiper as well.
Take that!
Please do more.. this is great! Thank you.
I have been waiting for this for ages! Thanks so much! I love your kitbashes Peachy :)
Yay, thank you! 😍😍😍
Excellent work Mr P. Lots of little gems right here.
Been waiting for this one!! What a way to start a Friday!
Never seen the masking tape tricks, amazing! Thank you!
Masking tape?!
You just made me seriously consider doing Tanith, finally. After years of dismissing it as too expensive.
Love it! And would love to see more videos like this in the future.
You got it!
That clump foliage makes me want to make an army of imperial disco stranglers
Awsome conversions. really cool 👍
I got a Leman Russ as my first tallarn unit.. sculpted the headscarf with greenstuff and was proud of it.. but for all the infantry I was considering 3rd party heads.. and now I see this video with MASKING TAPE? Are you kidding me? You madlad :D
Did anyone else see 0:18 and think, "Oh, fuck yeah, there's a guard regiment that features regimental afros as part of the uniform?"
Thanks so much, I've been look for a way of making 28mm headscarves for ages
The idea with the masking tape for the capes is great, thanks for that! I will try to copy it on my miniatures to get some "Tanith 1st and only" soldiers done.
This came just in time! I was planning on painting the new IG as Blood Pact for my CSM Traitor Guard
Awesome video!
Wonderful Tanith guards ! The camo is very nice 😊👍🏻
Brilliant video with some superb kitbashing ideas. The masking tape cloaks and headscarves will be used.
that tallarn raider was sweet!
Masking Tape! Mind Blown!! This is a great video, thanks as always for another masterpiece! Phenomenal editing.
First and Only!
the cape out of masking tape is BRILLIANT. and it looks SOO cool!!!
Been hoping for a video tutorial on your Tanith capes since I first saw your Instagram post! Also I love the creativity gone in to making these models look so different from each other! I wouldn't have thought in a million years to use clump foliage that way!
Would love to see more of these for some of the obscure regiments
Oh sweet! Late to this, but they all look great! So happy to see the Vostroyan get some well deserved love! Also Blood pact!
Such a simple but effective conversion, definitely building my Tanith kill team with this method 👏
These vids can’t come fast enough! 🤘❤️😁
The video I've waited for since I read first and only, thank you.
Thanks especially for the Tanith tutorial
Amazing Work!!! I'm doing some Grey IG Cadian's myself. Not made them a named regiment, but your stuff has given me a few ideas. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
I've not seen the masking tape trick in years!
Thanks for that 👍
Perfect ad always!!
I didn’t know masking tape can be used like a cloak 😮 this totally blow my mind!
Favorite paint job: Blood Pact.
Favorite haircut: Vostroyan.
😂🤣😂
Noice. Masking tape cloaks look a lot easier to make than green stuff ones.👀
I really like they gray red and black color scheme
Now you gave me an idea 💡. The Bearskin plus the feathers from the Pistoliers. BAM!! Space French!!!
that masking tape trick to make cloth is *A S C E N D E D*
the vfirst born conversion is so creative, this is sucha good way to get beginners into conversions! thanks so much for his cool vid
You're so welcome! That was pretty much the goal and I’m glad it’ll help.
"astra mili-what? You're in the guard son!"
I love the first born! That’s a great idea!!
Mustache 4 the win, again! Great paintjob 😀👍
Awesome job!! I got the desert guard from Victoria miniatures I'm excited to paint up
Good choice! There’s a lot of lovely minis on that site
I totally thought you’d use Green Stuff for the Cape but I’m pleasantly surprised that you used masking tape. That’s some out the box thinking right there!
I really enjoyed watching that and learning some simple conversion hints while listening to the Animal Crossing soundtrack
I’ve never seen masking tape used like. Definitely gonna steal that tech
I’ve always liked Tallarn and their preference for armored warfare. Seeing how easy it can be to convert Cadians to Tallarn just gave me inspiration to complete my Imperial Guard army list
Awesome! I’ll love to see this army when it’s done
For those who may not be reliant on a GW for gaming and don't need to stick with 100% GW parts, I'd recommend Wargames Atlantic Bulldogs from the Death Fields range. As well as pith helmets (gasmask and non-gasmask variants), the kit contains beret heads (for Tanith) and peaked caps (Mordians). They are 'heroic' 28mm as well so scale well with GW kits. The Les Grognards kit has a multitude of sci fi versions of historical French uniform heads including bearskins if you need a Vostroyan fix.
This is great. I’ve seen a lot of Tallarn conversions but this is so simple and effective. My grandad fought all through North Africa and the Middle East in WWII, plus I’m a huge Dune fan, so they are by far my favourite IG regiment.
Cheers bud for the comment, glad you liked the conversion of the Tallarn, and respect to your Cara dad too.
I would never have thought of masking tape for conversions.. wow :D
slight aside, from the tallarn masking tape method, i`m going to try a 2-3 layer of masking tape purity seals, cut it and shape it and maybe dip it in Pva? or varnish? then let it set.
Then add a little blob of green stuff, might work?
Definitely worth a go!
Love the Tallarn with the tape head scarf!
I'm thinking of doing a Vet Guard kill team as a steel legion theme. How would you build up their tan cloaks with a similar method to these in the video?
Damn, love me a Vostroyan afro. 17:06
That Tanith trooper. Peak Windsor Davies in that face.
For the bearskin heads you could try Wargames Atlantic Grognards, they've a lot of them, plus to spare time(and surely some fingers!) there are some skull-face helmets on the market, sadly don't remember if they are from Pig Iron or Anvil Industry.
We made a decision to try to do it
without using 3rd party parts and enjoy the challenge.
Cool, now got some ideas. Recently new to wargaming and mini's. Now want to give my new guardsmen scarfs or even hoods with cloaks.
Love the bearskins!
Love them all, great work!
I’m not usually one for commenting, but this is something i’ve noticed a lot in the community. Nobody ever seems to do the blood pact with the actual grotesques, it’s all either skulls or (worse) just ignored entirely! Even in White Dwarf!
I used milliput to sculpt grotesques onto my Blooded Kill Team, it wasn’t particularly hard, considering that was my first attempt at sculpting, and seems a bit easier than carving up faces! What made you stray away from the original design?
Love all the colour schemes, the tanith were particularly cool
how tough/strong are the masking tape cloaks compared with stuff like greenstuff cloaks?
Pretty robust tbf, the undercoat really helps, but if you wanted you can apply some pva glue for extra security , honestly I’ve never had an issue with capes etc coming off
Love the hobby tip with the masking tape!... flock for a bearskin scares me though 🤣
You and me both! 😂😂😂 not the best end result, but very low sculpting skill required
So you just spray paint over the masking tape!? Holy shit, that's magic.
Who knew!?!
That first strip on the Vostroyan helmet at 17:40 makes me think this would also potentially be a good way of doing a Roman-style helmet crest, too - maybe with some putty at the base to represent the metal clamp holding it in place?
Good ideas in this! I probably would just use napoleonic heads for the bearskins, it would save so much time for so cheap. Napoleonic minis are probably the cheapest there are.
Thanks!
No thank you.
Great video although you do need to do some cowdian abhuman PDF, or deathkows of krieg, beastmen love the Emperor too.
I've been collecting the metal Tallarn miniatures, and hadn't even considered such an easy conversion for the new plastic models. Will definitely be trying it with my next set.
😍👍
Gotta say man. I was a little skeptical looking at that tape cloak hanging on that figure. Until you painted it, then wow.. Brilliant!! Looks pretty damn good painted up!!
I'm going to advance my plans for kitbashing those Guardians of the Covenant I've always wanted after learning that trick! Good one!!
Definitely interested in Tallern and Praetorian regiments.
Great paint schemes! Now I have to buy the cadia stands kit...... I would love a video on various basing schemes with different textures and one on the kit you guys use such as brushes.
Noted! That’s a great idea 👍
Have some idea about vostroyan. They using musket style weapon. And its possible to give them galvanic musket or some mechanicus rifle wich will be look like authentic
I've loved all ten of these options, especially the Tallarn raider. Wonder if you could steal a few bits and bobs from the Ash Waste Nomads kits to spice them up. Also, I'd love to see you take a wack at an airborne regiment like the Elysians or Harakoni Warhawks. Maybe using Kasrkin when the separate kit releases?
I liked these two videos a lot. The use of the masking tape was very inventive, I don't think I've seen such a technique before. I think that the Praetorian guard and Vostroyans would have looked even better if the kneepads and maybe trouser pockets had been shaved off however.
Good shout, cheers.
@@thepaintingphaseever heard of the drookian fen guard?
What transfers did you use for the Praetorian Guard left and right shoulders? I really like the font of the Numbers, thanks!
Amazing amazing video. Absolutely what I have been looking for for so long.
Perhaps you could make the DarkTide characters? Dawn of War faction Leaders?
Talarn conversion look really good
well looks good to me see as post new good idears of cloler sceams to do the guard and see as do new
Please do more !
These look even... **drum roll**... peachier than the last lot! :)
😂😂😂 cheers 👍
fair paint jobs, but the Praetorian whole character is lost when you swap out their Sun Helmets
17:47 - bonus Afro-Imperial Guard Regiment)
Love Praetorians and funnily that's the colours I used for mine.
The masking tape is genius.
Aww man, missed opportunity on the tallarn. Could've wrapped the gun with tape as well (to prevent Sun glare on your lasgun from giving your position away)
Sweet video nonetheless, as always, keep up the good work.
