Gotta say this is a really excellent video showcasing just how easy it is to portray a bunch of guardsmen from non-cadian regiments using little more than the Stands box
I dont agree with that though, just for the Vostroian for exemple, if you want to make a real army like that you are going to pay 10 times the price of a normal IG army (which is already pricey). The best would be to have more kits made by GW, at least Catachan ...
If you wanna pay for 3 other kits just to make a few conversions, yeah completely right
If you went to a tournament would the models be legal with these kitbashes ? As its just heads, asking for myself haha new to the game
@MrAndyyybee you can kitbash models as much as you like so long as you can tell what they are, you don't even need to start with the proper kit. GW have a rule that armies used in their tournaments have to use all parts from them, but since the kits used here are 40k and Necromunda that isn't an issue.
Just a head swap kit, which often costs half as much as the troops themselves. If you're lucky.
Hahaha of course would start with the Ventrillans
Peachy painting guard, gotta be done!
I appreciate how approachable and achieveable these paint schemes (and the methods) are. Keep it up folks - your rambling chats and more focused videos are all great content.
Necromunda spiders! So many kitbash possibilities. Personally I'm going for a small Inquisition force I can use for boarding actions, either as Agents of the Imperium or Guard.
Using a brush guard to hold a citadel paint pot open. Mind. Blown!
The colour scheme of the Ventrillian Nobles is really really great.
Wow who’d of thought that the new Cadians look even better in alternative schemes than on the box! Great work as ever Peachy!
Here's hoping part 2 will have the Vitrian Dragoons.
Fantastic stuff (as usual) the kind of content you would have found in a white dwarf in the 90’s 2000’s.
This is amazing! Been hyped for this ever since you guys started talking about doing it and you’ve totally delivered. Love this type of stuff that adds such a layer of customization to your army with relatively minor kit bashing and paint schemes.
Fabulous video. Love how different these can look while being mostly the same kit. Can't wait for part 2!
The ventrillian nobles just look bad ass with the new bodies.
Necromunda Spiders, funny that in the past it used to be the Van Saars that was the Necromunda regiment, and the Necromunda Rough Riders were Ratskins, I guess the new Necromunda Rough Riders will be Nomad Bug riders :)
Definitely like the Miasman model the best out of all these.
It's worth noting that, if people aren't too fussed about using exclusively GW models, there are many third party options that can be acquired for cheaper. My favorite go-to company is Wargames Atlantic, who have a variety of plastic kits specifically built to be Imperial Guard compatible. These kits have head options that replicate Guard regiments GW no longer sell models for (Vostroyans, Steel Legion, Penal Legion, Mordians, Praetorians), or didn't when the kits were designed (Squats), or did but are kind of old (Catachan) or expensive at the time (Forge World Kriegsmen). The different kits have those loads of head options, so you can customize them very well. They even have set for modern "operator" style warriors, like a Sci Fi version of present day US military, if your military tastes skew more that direction.
WA also just have a bunch of historical or fantasy kits, and an upgrade sprue for giving folks lasguns and gas masks. In case you really want to build a Severan Dominate army, and so need to repurpose WA's Late Romans kit.
Fantastic work yet again! Thanks you for this video.
Love that you have kitbashed the heads. Ivs started using Escher heads on my 'Sisters too, just gives some individual personality to your models!
Love seeing paints from other companies too, gives ideas to go and try those too
Nice tutorial, for the spiders one good add could be painting some tatoos or insignias such as webs or spiders on their armours/helmets, and add some flames on Redcowls' "helmet".
Cool ideas! Definitely something for others watching to take away and try 😍👍
Awesome vid! Thank you for showcasing the necromundan spiders. It’s super tempting to give it a crack myself
Amazing 2 parter packed with value. Superbly entertaining and inspirational.
Perfect! I picked up my first box of the new shock troopers a couple of days ago, glad I've not just gone stright with the Cadian 8th before watching this vid :)
I love the extra tips on weathering and adding more depth/warmth to the scheme.
I'm wondering what I can adapt for catachan models!
Awesome video. Don't know if it's a longshot but man I'd love to see some Valhallans. They were always one of my favorites. Keep up the awesome work!
One of favourites’Pete the Wargamer’ has done some amazing Vallhallans over on his channel, well worth a look, if you need an instant fix.
Magnificent. Definitely using that paint scheme on my Spiders. Ace.
If you take a shot everytime he says “Oily steel” you get to take a ride in the ambulance :D
I really enjoyed that tutorial. I like how you have jumping off points for different abilities and replicable techniques. I'm jonesing for some guard now!
Awesome thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 😍😍😍
I have a Necromundan Spiders Killteam! Crazy seeing them on the silver screen like this!
For a Christmas present to my friend, I decided to paint up a squad of the Kill-Team Veteran Guardsmen, who have Death Korps of Krieg models. However, I aimed to paint them in the style of my friends army, the Praetorian Guard! So that meant lightly shaded Rakarth flesh for the helmet, shoulders and glove guards, blue pants, red coat. However, I realized after painting a lot of the leather brown, it just wasn't working as best as it could, it was missing something... So I painted all the leather straps white with Grey Seer and Apothecary White! It really pulls it together. Anyways, thanks for the video and all the great ideas!
Oh man, I cannot wait to get my Mordians painted in this theme.
It's such a simple scheme but works perfectly!
Only a good 140+ to paint! 😂
I’m so thankful this video exists. Honestly. It helps so much
😍👍😍 glad to have helped Logan
Can't wait for part 2.
The Cadian redesign is a great way for GW to make the most popular regiment resemble it's less known counterparts further, some custom 3d print bits or creative bit swapping yields surprising results compared to the old models. Great video, exited for part 2.
I was just wondering what the Spiders might look like - and here you are with concise instructions. Timely and appreciated. Cheers!
Hahaha! Perfect, we’re glad to have helped 😍👍
iam so glad i discovered his chanel your painting looks so amazing
Loved this! I had been very skeptical about how the new kits would look for kit bashing and representing regiments beyond the Cadian styles. Shall hope to see some Praetorians soon but looking forward to more of this quality stuff all the same!
I love Peach's color schemes, they are always so full of life. Coming up with a baller color scheme is a skill in its own right
😍🙏😍 Cheers bud
Really appreciate how many of these conversions are just head-swaps or funky colour schemes, really makes the idea of doing custom regiments less intimidating (especially compared to other more involved kitbashes floating about)
This just shows the skills and talent Peachey has built up over his career. A couple of part changes and a nice clear simple paint scheme, and these look like a kit GW would sell off the shelf.
Can't wait to see you take on the Tanith first and only.
Absolutely love this! Thank you 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it! 😍😍😍
Some cool schemes here Peachy, definitely life the Ventrillian one you do
😍😍😍
sweet kit bashing! wow! i'm excited to do a catachan army at some point.
😂 loved being the live studio man in the corner for the last few minutes!
Realy cool paint schemes 👏👍
Really good video, I'm looking forward to the second part. It's a really good opportunity. Greetings from Germany (Bavaria). Finally I can build a regiment of the Mordian Iron Guard with the new models.
Glad you enjoyed it! And show us your Mordians when your done 😍👍
Very nice tutorial. It gives me the impression that I could do it and it would look as good as the one Peachy has. Actually incites you to pick up a brush and not to break it.
Go for it! You’ll be amazed by what you can achieve, our goal is just inspire
Man, head swap, some fancy piping, and those tatical fatigues look like dress uniforms. Very impressed
Using the paintbrush "cap" to hold the pots open (49 seconds in) is genius.
Didnt even see these were the new guard models at first! This video actually sold me on them
Awesome! They are actually lovely minis, my only bugbear is I wish I could have separate bag packs on all of them
Oh man this video is amazing
For those who may not be reliant on a GW for gaming and don't need to stick with 100% GW parts, I'd recommend Wargames Atlantic Bulldogs from the Death Fields range. As well as pith helmets (gasmask and non-gasmask variants), the kit contains beret heads (for Tanith) and peaked caps (Mordians). They are 'heroic' 28mm as well so scale well with GW kits. The Les Grognards kit has a multitude of sci fi versions of historical French uniform heads including bearskins if you need a Vostroyan fix.
Some nice, simple conversions here! Hoping to see a Savlar Chem Dog :D
Love it fellas. More more more.......🤞👌👍
This is so awsome!!
I currently can't dicide what color scheme i will use for my new cadians and this is a great inspiration.
5 more to come in the next week or so!
@@thepaintingphase awsome :)
I love these!
Good idea for videos, maybe use chapters to easily navigate for the next one.
Time codes are in the description, they should come up automatically but I'll get it sorted
@@thepaintingphase Thanks, I'm on mobile so didn't think to check the description.
I’m going to be painting some corrupted guard up in Necromundan 8th colours to act as arbitrator baddies for a campaign with my kid soon so this was perfect timing, awesome work!
Finally some regimental love
Peachy makes that Black Legion feel like liquid gold, without it being gold. Lkl
Please, please, please do the Blood Pact in part 2.
Love the idea of a regiment drafted from Necromunda! So many ways to customize your dudes to reflect that heritage.
Right! Flipping loads of options for making a unique army.
A fun thing about Necromunda is that it is also a world that the Imperial Fists recruit from!
@@Arachnarch Really? That is pretty cool
@@thepaintingphase Hey, do you have any idea how I could kitbash some Krieg Kasrkin?
@@MakinaMakinaMakina I didn't think Krieg would have Kasrkin, given that the Kasrkin are specifically Cadian special forces.
Krieg *do* have an equivalent called Grenadiers, but the only real difference is that they have slightly more armour than the average DoK guardsman. Usually it's a breastplate in addition to the pauldrons DoK guardsmen already wear.
oh, red cowl... I was painting while listening and had to look up to see what regiment was called the Red Cow!
They’re in the next episode! 😂
Alright, I'll start painting the "cadia stands" set too
You convinced me!
That’s the spirit
Very cool nice array
They look great Peachy. Hey can u do a tutorial of Astra Militarum Teutons?
Would love to see one painted up like the Praetorian Guard. Great video!
Maybe you’ll get a nice surprise next week 😉
I'd really like to flesh out the First and Only, to bring out more of the characters from the novels, it's still a whim at the moment. I've got the Gaunt's ghost box from a little while ago I've yet to build
Love all of these!!! Though there’s still something about the knee pads that bother me. Maybe because they don’t have straps going around. Just feels like unnecessary detail. But I did like it for the Necronmundan Spiders
Love the background music! That sax is so sexy! It really makes me thin my paints to make them oh so smoooooth. Keep up the great work!
Hahaha! 🎷🎷🎷
I was blown away by the new sculpts with the Ventrillian conversion… I think I may need to get some 🤔
Thanks Josh! Nothing like a straight forward head swap and change of colour 😍👍
Beautiful colourschemes, my favorite is the blue scheme
Mine too!
Love me some Mordians 😍
Awesome regiments and awesome paintjobs.
I guess part 2 is already made but after Darktide and seeing so many sleeveless guys in the box I've been wondering how could tattoos be painted on, like a mini aquila or skull?
Maybe too much into extreme freehand territory😂 but it would match the necromundan spiders perfectly, enhance the ganger feel.
You could try a pigma micronpen!
There are some really small decals that could go on them in the 40K range and designed for purpose ones from companies on the internet.
This is the best video I have ever seen
Aww thanks John! We very much appreciate that 😍😍😍
I used to absolutely love kitbashing stuff but a lot of the newer miniatures are much harder to kitbash with simple head swaps - it's amazing to see that the new Cadians are still easy enough to convert and it's still amazing how different you can make a Cadian look with a different head and different colours. The biggest frustration I used to find was actually getting the bits needed from all the various kits. Buying boxes of miniatures just to raid for heads wasn't really viable, even 10 years ago, and companies like Bitzbox were a bit unreliable regarding what they had in stock. And obviously GW stores aren't really all that keen on 3rd party conversion bits. Ultimately, coupled with it getting harder and harder to really play in a GW store, I just wrote it off and started buying 3rd party heads.
The nonscraped mold lines and undrilled gun barrels bug me to no end
That’s trying to do it all in 12 hours for you. I don’t think even GW drill las rifles do they, I’m sure they just black dot them?
So cool! These are very nice options when GW itself doesn´t show much care of non-cadian regiments!
Thanks for dropping this the minute I purchase cadia stands 🤣
Hahaha! Any time! 😍😍😍
You got it! Happy to be of service 🫡
This was an awesome video, I had no clue they had so many subfactions...those spiders are my favorite. But the death corp Kreig are apart of them too aren't they?
That’s correct, theirs so bloody many to pick from.
But, but, but, part two is not out yet.
🤣🤣
Great video as always, its realy nice to see peachy as him self and not as gw wants him to be.
Thanks! It’s been so liberating and incredibly good fun. But year having the best life right now.
Really hoping to see some Vostroyan Firstborn! Great work on these though!
Vostroyan you say, I wonder how Peachy would do those bearskins 🤔
nice one fella
Epic!
Yes, the Miasman Redcowls, the stinky boys! sure, we have the honorable Maccabian Janissaries, the proud Mordian Iron Guard, the brave Catachan Jungle Fighters, but no, the unit I want for my army are the masters of stink!
Keep it comming lads. Even if it doesn’t apply to my hobby imma watch it. Cheers fellas
Much appreciated 😍👍😍
@@thepaintingphase blessing of chaos from over the pond to ya
I'm looking forward to Part II, include Valhallans PehLeeze!
If they haven’t made the cut or you’re really impatient. Check out Pete the Wargamer’s Vallhallans’ they are awesome.
If the mordian iron guard had armour it would probably be very fancy and akin to their uniform
You are a wonderful painter!
Thank you so much 😀 tbf it’s Pat that makes me look better with his magically videography 👍
A headswap can really change the character of the kit. I've been using the beret heads from scions to make para themed guard. Unfortunately, they're not always easy to get!
Yeah, you get a decent amount in the scion set, but that’s a lot of scion boxes you’ll need 😬
Love to see some Ultramar Auxilia
Going to give the Necromunda Spiders a try. To go with my Jopall indentured squadrons.
Have to say, the Necromunda Spider, Vresh Grenadier, and Miasma Redcowl are my favorite so far. Besides 40K these guys would work really well for Space Station Zero.
Had to double take on the Miasman Redcowls as I was half listening whilst painting and thought I heard Red Cows!
Their in the next part😂🤣😂
i would like to see how you do a penal legion =)
wasnt plainnin on starting a guard army, but damn, those vresh grenadiers look pretty tasty ngl
There’s something easy on the eyes when you put thunderhawk blue next to beige. 😍👍
I like the redcowls for my kiavahr regiment I want to make
That AK Bronze looks a bit tasty, I’m going to give it a go. Need to try out that affiliate link you keep bangin on about 😜
Hahaha! Cheers bud, I’m really enjoying AK’s paints lots to choose from. Their rubber black is amazing
I like this.
Amazing conversions ! When are we going to have part 2 ?
Today! Just finishing up the edit now
Ventrillian Nobles are very cool... i wish I had not already kriegified my guard....
Tons of 3rd party heads available out there for these awesome new guard models.
I think Peachy likes the challenge, wait till you see the lengths he goes to, in the next part.
Ventrillian nobles make me wonder what Ventrillian peasants look like
Very similar but they can’t afford wax for their moustaches.
