    Excellent little video. I have the non-evo cranks which are bombproof but an over engineered nightmare! I think I might need to change to evo’s!

    Brilliant mate thanks for the video very very helpful. Just bought a crankset with the spider attatched ( from Ebay virtually new ) may just take it off with the tool and get an oval chain ring.
    Question: im running a 32t chainring ( racecace yes with the horrible llasticky bearing preload adjuster) now do i go for a 30T as its oval or still with a 32T obviously for clearance?
    Cheers
    Jon

    thanks for sharing, definitely a crank set to check out, I am currently using Turbine & Atlas with Cane Creek preloader, I like the stiffness of Altas cranks, but Turbine is nice too not as stiff but stiff enough and light, but for hard riding I prefer stiff crank, but I need a new frame with longer reach, and need to get some other parts, rest I will swap over, need a new bike soon.
    I look forward to hearing more about these cranks, but So far Race Face cranks has been doing well for me, with the upgrade,but need proper BB and bike to have them in, my old xc bike has Chris King headset and Turbine cranks, just had to fix it, easier than getting new bike, but cus my bike is too short and too troublesome I need new bike, So far Nicolai looks interesting.

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety

      Thanks, they are lighter, stronger, use less parts and avoid uneven chain tension from loose chainring bolts.

  • @barkstamassi

    It appears you’re not using the Hope 30mm bottom bracket, can you confirm which bottom bracket you’re using thanks and is the compatibility ok with these cranks?

  • @ShreddingBliss

    Cheers for the vid! I have a new Hope Evo crankset but got the one with the wrong axel length. I’ve ordered a shorter axel. Buy now I’m confused how the axel is supposed to come off / what tools I need. It says ’do not remove’ on the non drive side arm and has a 10 tooth nut opening. Any idea??

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety +1

      You will need to use the AM crank installation tool (Not supplied with the Evo) to remove the axle from the NDS arm of the Evo crank.
      A press is required to do this.
      The part code for the tool is HTT191

    • @ShreddingBliss

    Hey Jed.
    Your review was awesome and in time.
    I’m going to order from cyclestore the same ones for me.
    Does your chainring is the boost one?
    Unfortunately I can’t seem to verify if it’s the boost one or not from cyclestore.
    Thanks

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi, yes I have the boost chainring, cyclestore only have the non boost listed on the site but if you contact them, they can supply the boost ones. Thanks

    • @MartinTeerly
      @MartinTeerly Před 4 lety

      Crank is for both spacings. It's your chainring made for boost or none boost. 6mm none boost or 3mm boost
      Then you have spacers with BB
      Easy peasy

    Great vid Jed, I have never used an oval chainring.. you recommend? Also, did you/would you always replace chain and casette when replacing crankset/chainring? Cheers mate

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety

      I personally like ovals I'd recommend people consider trying one to see how they like it, I always like to use a fresh chain but the cassette can normally be left unless it's too worn out

    So can I only use the Hope spiderless chainrings--or can I use other brands (wolftooth) direct mount chainrings..? If so, would it be the CINCH version or the SRAM version..?
    How are these cranks holdin up on you? Better than shimano saints? haha--thanks! Love your vids--more please

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety

      You can use other brands but you'll need to get one with a hope mount, I'm using a oneup components ring at the moment, superstar components also do one, they are holding up really well on par with the saints they just feel a bit stiffer due to the thicker axle, I appreciate the kind words :)

  • @samwainwright5006
    @samwainwright5006 Před rokem

    I have the brand new eco cranks but when I tighten the screw, there seems to be a lot of resistance and the cranks won’t spin so I put a washer between the crank and the BB but it still won’t spin really freely and am scared to over tighten the cranks

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před rokem

      Should be fairly easy to tighten, might be worth trying to screw it together off the bike to check it’s not cross threading or catching on something, does the non-drive side spin freely before you attach the drive side?

    • @samwainwright5006
      @samwainwright5006 Před rokem

      @@jedmtb yeah I’ve just tried to put a washer between the non drive side crank and BB and put plenty of grease to keep it running but I guess it has to wear a little before it spins very freely

    Hi,I’ve got Trek slash 9.8 29 2017.BB is PF92,my question is what size of Hope cranks do I need buy? And also do I need to replace the Stock BB? Thank you

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi John, you'll need to replace your BB with a 30mm axle compable one, a number of company's do them including Hope, they are sometimes called a Press fit 41 and you'll want the 68-73mm version of the crank.

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  Před 4 lety

      Looking at the specs of your stumpy, you'll need the 170mm 68/73mm crank and the stock BB will need replacing for a 68/73mm 30mm BSA threaded one.
