I know this is four years old, but, SERIOUSLY!! MAJOR respect for your careful planning and excellent damage prevention strategies!! That Mantis anchor is phenomenal!! Of course, the perfect clay bottom doesn’t hurt a thing, but seeing the holding power you had going on there, Dan ... and the storm footage just BLEW my mind!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Give you guys this, still after so many years I started watching you guys, when it was still just fixing uma up. You have the best mindset, so many others motor under 3knt, hurry this way, hurry that way! Few, too few adopts the concept of "sail time" better.

I 've been binge watching your vlogs since step 1. love every one of them. I learned a ton of knowledge from Dan and Kiki. Hope one day I would be sailing in a form or shape of sail boat. thank you.

Instead of hauling chain thru chocks I drop a noose around the chain, let it sink deep, cinch tight with a snap, haul line until nooose reaches the chock and set another deep line/noose, release top noose, then repeat. When you get to the anchor most of the chain will be up. A roller also helps but isn't reqd.

Yes, as a former professional Captain sailor, boat dealer, rigger, and everything else you can do to make your living doing this, I am very impressed with your preparations, but most with your explanations about how we keep from boredom like others thin. Everything is a learning experience. Your description of the type of muddy clay bottom is the kind of thing that jolts our interest within the subject of anchoring, and your choice of ground tackle, and placement are fitting of Chapman’s Piloting and/or The Annapolis Seamanship volumes. I hope you have a devoted lady crew that really decorates you heart as well as your deck. (P.S..... you understand)

Great video. Í watched the video anchored for the hurricane. You're very brave. I watched with interest because some day I won't be able to escape a storm like that. Lucky you found that spot better protected from the wind and waves. And yes, removing the solar panels was definitely the best idea. I'm working on a sketch to make a small companionway hood on my boat because I would have removed the dodger as well. But in your case, there's no way to keep the water out, and some protection. And for power, Im separating the engine battery so it's not part of the house bank because given how tired you looked, I would have prefer to motor and let the autopilot do some work. That Mantua anchor is huge. They are expensive but worth their weight in gold. Fair winds and stay safe.

I suppose some people would, but there are always things you could find to do.
