      I was consistently in Diamond in seasons 8-10. In season 11, I created a new account to duo with a friend, and struggled to escape Gold, entirely due to coinflip teammates. That experience alone made me stop playing ranked entirely for over a year. I came back about 2 months ago to give it another go, and it's somehow gotten worse, between teammates mental + the game's balance state.

    • @falandfriends4760
      @falandfriends4760 Před 2 lety +3

      I think people easily accept that it happens. They just assume that it's happening to you as much as its happening to the other team and therefore isn't a handicap. That's a mostly valid assumption.
      If you are getting inted more than your fare share either you are a known personality (ultra minority) or you are causing the behavior yourself. Riot's match making system isn't out to get you (or anyone else) so the inters, trolls, people with weak mental are evenly distributed.

    • @JordaanM
      @JordaanM Před 2 lety +19

      @@falandfriends4760 Sure, by law of averages, it happens to both sides equally. The issue with that is that the trolls' ability to lose a game far outweighs a skilled player's ability to win a game. This is especially the case if you're not playing a hypercarry.
      Instead of having a 60-80% win rate when playing in ranks far below your skill level, you instead have a maybe 55% win rate. Over 20 games, you establish a 1-2 win surplus, meaning you climb very slowly.
      The net result is that people who play 1000+ of games per season will probably end up in the right rank, but people who play a few games a week at most will stagnate far lower then where they should be, their games remain frustrating the entire time, and this frustration (along with the aforementioned balance issues) is a large part of what drives people away from league, IMO.
      It's extremely uninviting to new players, it's uninviting to casual players, and it's uninviting to seasoned veterans unless LoL basically the only game they play. It creates a dead sea effect.

    @asstime6170 Před 2 lety +176

    Its a psychological effect called "self-fulfilling prophecy" which turns people from trying harder to compensate for the bad team to inting. Because when people think a game is lost and they don't give any effort in or even put effort into losing, their thoughts are "justified" after and confirms their initial false belief that the game was lost. Trying harder to compensate will just make the person experience cognitive dissonance where they believe that trying harder will make them win which is then in conflict with the result of them trying harder and losing. So the mind resorts to the self fulfilling prophecy in order to prevent cognitive dissonance

    • @michelepiazza3601
      @michelepiazza3601 Před 2 lety +7

      for what it's worth, those people should take their a$$e$ on simpler games like tetris where they dont have to face cognitive dissonance: it is safer for them and for the rest of us if they do. • @Bergyn
      @Bergyn Před 2 lety +3

      At the same time why even play league then? Like ofc you will make mistakes every now and then. To start playing a ranked game with a mind set of - okay, i will try to win to climb ( otherwise play normals, right?) And then after a questionable play ( which happens even in the highest of elos) just give up and try to lose..
      Like imo it's more rewarding to win a game from a losing posision which is much harder ofc and takes a lot more effort than winning already a won game if that makes sense

      Well, we got into a lot of losing game and often in the pre 5 minute marks where the enemy botlane got 6 kills for no reason. But then other lanes are looking good. Which means we still have chance to find a comeback, as long as top, mid and jungle doing well. But then... what happens if all lanes turned to be massacred. And the score look like 0-15 in pre 10 minutes mark, while all outer towers also gone and enemy team got drakes and herald too. I don't think we need to consider to give effort in that game anymore and just let it go. Coz it would waste time to do so. The problem is, most of the team mate I got would vote NO than surrendering and dragging the game to lose even more. It then become 20 minutes of hell and still a lose. I don't know why people always think they can carry a game, but sometime it is okay to surrender. Obviously if the gap is just too wide. But then four or three people will still vote NO and play like shits. RIOT should consider something of a much better surrender vote system so these kind of people won't gonna hostage others (when they also the one who fed the enemy and cause the lose). Also, losing que should not be a thing. I got 10 plus games where most of my team mates are either in lower ranks of mine and the enemy, or simply just dumb.

Any kind of offense is bannable there and their GMs actively play the game, in case you get reported for actually doing something, chances are a GM brings you to in-game jail to talk about the report and see your side of the history, or you might just get banned without warning if there's visual proof of whatever you did. However, the last seven of my ranked matches have been corralling the mental health of people likely older than myself. One of my friends decided to try and grind the ladder anyway. After about a week he gave up and put it this way "it is incredibly disheartening when you look at map making callouts, rotating, nailing your cs, and play as a team member to minutes later see two allied lanes at each other's throats over literally nothing. Every game." As of late it feels that a league match, ranked or otherwise, is more of a slot machine than a team game. The jackpot is which team got the person who gives up first. Its funny. Iron and Bronze (since the game launch for bronze) have believed themselves to be elo hell. However gold and plat are the actual elo hell ranks. Its the peak of Dunning Kruger. A collection of people who mostly reached the elo through personal micro skill while ignoring the fundamentals of the game. They are so filled with ego because they can pilot a champ well that it causes them to be ultra defensive and stand offish. This leads to immediate tilt and even self sabotage so they can internally dismiss a failure justifying it through their own self assertion that it was their teams fault. This creates a toxic environment that bleeds off onto the rest of their peers who genuinely want to improve and creates a negativity spiral. They know just enough to be convinced they know everything.
    And it gets worse every year as most those people never improve. They get saltier and quicker to throw. Team games are rough especially when you have the benefit of rarely if ever running into them again

If someone presses a button and a tree falls onto a car, the owner might get pissed at the guy pressing the button. Even if it was just a light switch. Not knowing the facts leads to misunderstandings.
      Some bronze pleb thinking they played perfectly because they got 2 kills while having 5cs/m and not rotating anywhere will get angry because they don't understand the game but think they do. Why else would rift Alexa show his icon?
      I play in Diamond right now and the main reason people get pissed is because one element they don't understand goes punished. These are all good players, but mistakes that they can't comprehend turn them into toddlers within seconds.

    DISCLAIMER: I'm Gold 3 in OCE and this is what I have learnt along the way of trying to climb in this game. Yes OCE and for those of you that will think OCE is a lesser region when it comes to league that's true in professional/higher elo but anything under plat or diamond even is just as terrible in any other region.
    I started playing again 2 months ago as I also had given up on the game but was looking for a challenge so I thought I'd just try and climb by just maining Pantheon. I struggled at the start since I only last played in Season 9 before that and the game had changed quite a bit, also I was just testing out which lane i preferred to play Pantheon in as support and top were the most common options but i have found I enjoy him most in mid. (I know to some that becomes boring but as I will explain, you don't have to just main a single champion)
    So how am I going about climbing? Start by muting everyone and focusing on yourself because the other players in your team are out of your control. You can ping them for guidance but dont bother explaining to them how to play the game, even if you are frustrated to the point you want to punch them through the screen. Pick a handful of champs to play (preferably easy ones) and main them because to get out of low elo you are going to have to be playing at your best and as much as people think they are good at a lot of champions, they aren't, otherwise they wouldn't be in low elo to begin with. (also do a bit of limit testing with them to figure out what you can do with them)
    It helps to also just watch videos and see what other players in higher elo do and don't do in order to win their games. There is more to the game than just knowing how to play your favourite champs. If you are able to get good enough to the point where you actually feel like you should be playing at a higher level than what you already are and it is apparent in your games then your teammates will likely see that and it will have a positive effect on them. I get there are some idiots that will get annoyed at dumb things even if you are carrying but again you cant do anything about them. To end though, I'd suggest ditching norms, play strictly ranked and put more time into the game as all of what I mentioned requires time for you to even achieve it. Again that's if you want to actually climb and get good at the game. Anyway, hope this helps to anyone that reads it.

Inspired by you and Neace together along with others. I put my pedal to the mother F***ING metal and took the game extremely serious. And ya know what? I learned to do shit that blew my own f***ing mind... I learned how to HOLD my own against multiple players... I got a penta or two. I became a HARD leather hide in the face of any adversity in the rift. I EMRACED the retardation I knew was coming eith every game launched. I got so damn passionate that Rav even lit me up in one of his videos. Still honored and not offended because Rav and Neace are doing more to keep this carcass od a moba alive then the developers themselves. They REFUSE to listen to us. They take out game modes we loved. They REFUSE to fix the bugs. They have to rework things every year because it's such a mixmatch affair when it comes to stats and champs. It's obvious that some champs are favorited too. League of Legends has always had the potential to be the game among games! And instead.... Well... They make it so that players have to go through extraordinary hoops in order to get ahead; oh and lets say you go as far as to RECORD your clip, collect the gamer IDs and report it in a ticket ro riot directly (doing the damned work for them.) Then what? What do you get? Some generic auto response thats like "FEELS BAD MAN" They laugh at you!
    And I'll still wear my tin foil hat proudly and say that this game is rigged. Play with chat and pings off for 50 games, (if you are concerned leave junglers pings on if you play in lane as it's the only one that will actually matter 99% of the time) you'll start noticing trolls very rarely happen to you too. You don't notice 9/10 trolls when you have chat/pings off, soft inting just looks like a bad player when you don't have the context of them tilting out of their minds in chat.
      Also if someone just afks your mind often assumes they disconnected not rage quit and it's so much easier on your mental.
      It's kinda sad but if you play as though your entire team are bots that are randomly programmed to do weird unexpected shit then your mental is preserved quite well. Can be very hard to focus only on your gameplay when you know people were trolling etc.

      You don't see trollers in the enemy teams easily because most of the times you think they are playing seriously unless you watch them actually doing something stupid. Many times you think they play bad just because of their lack of experience or because of lag, until the game is about to end and the enemies type -report our teammate... plz-. This year, almost half of my wins in S Rift happen with someone asking to report someone from their team or just me discovering that a certain enemy was AFK.

      @@UnshakableStoic "...you'll start noticing trolls very rarely happen to you" Not true in the slightest. All muting chat/pings does is remove the toxic lil man childs who type in the game chat/spam ping you. Also if you can only notice soft inting when there's chat logs you have a very poor understanding of what soft inting looks like. There are more than plenty soft inting players who don't type anything (because they're trying to avoid the report bot flagging them) and when they get mad they just stop playing the game normally, they'll chain die 4 times in 2 minutes and type /mute all so they don't have to worry about their team. Or you'll get people like support/jg players who get mad and then start intentionally taking entire waves and trying to deny you farm. THAT is what soft inting is. It's not incredibly blatant (according to Riot's rules) but to anyone who plays the game it is obviously intentional trolling/griefing. A bad player doesn't just randomly start taking entire waves and following you around the map.
      "Also if someone just afks your mind often assumes they disconnected not rage quit and it's so much easier on your mental." Maybe you're just a really strong optimist with people in gaming but I'm not. I /mute all every game and when I see the 0/4 ahri disconnect at 10 minutes I don't think "oh, they must've lagged out. they're going to come back and play it through" because I wasn't born yesterday and I've played this game for more than 50 games a season. People rarely ever genuinely disconnect in league. It still happens, but compared to the number of players who actively get pissed after 1-2 bad plays/deaths and leave the game, genuine disconnects are rare.

My father came into the room and I minimized the game to talk to him only to end up stealing blue buff on accident. I also ended up losing my bot lane match and diana ended up being behind not to mention how the enemy botlane kept mocking me for taking blue and were toxic.
    Yet,the jungler never once complained and kept on playing. Eventually we scaled and managed to win this game.
    In the post game lobby I trolled the enemy team so hard afterwards. Spamming bot diff and ez. Best game of my life. Especially when I got to suck it to the toxic enemy botlane.

    I totally understand how you feel. I quit the game and have stayed away from it for 4 months. It's hard to play a game where the devs are blissfully and purposefully ignorant to the very thing killing their game. The toxic community rubbed off on me and I started being toxic to the people around me, my friends would start complaining that I was way more toxic and annoying when we played together, so I reformed.
    I used to contribute to that toxic side of the game just as bad as the people in this video too, I would call people names (thankfully not slurs), spam ping, constantly judge every single misplay they'd do and trash talk them in the chat for that, and it got me permabanned. But after getting banned, expressing my anger for League for banning me of all people, losing hundreds of dollars of account value, I got back into the game on a new account and reformed.
    But even when I wasn't toxic to the people in my games whatsoever and incredibly encouraging, supportive, and helpful towards my teammates, I was still met with people flaming me every single day. I would be flamed, witness people flaming others, inting, AFKing, seeing people call each other slurs, seeing names with slurs in them, I lost all hope in the game and the horrible department of Riot that ran the League of Legends side of things. Regardless of the number of times I've reported these people, they were rarely ever banned. I had to submit MANUAL TICKETS to report these people to see any sort of feedback, and EVEN THEN I didn't know for sure if they were actually punished.
    Quitting League has been the best decision I've ever made. The amount of stress I was under was killing me from the inside-out, it was killing my relationships, and overall I was so unhealthy. I spent a lot of the time that I would have been playing League on working out, learning to cook, etc. If you decide to take time away from League, good for you, I fully support you in doing so.
    Edit: Just adding something I remembered Riot directly telling me through a support ticket. They rarely give out Instant Feedback Reports for reporting someone and contributing to their punishment. It's pretty uncommon, and if I recall correctly, I don't believe the Riot employee even understood why this was the case. Just another example of Riot Games at its finest.

    That happens to me most times lately, and I honestly think it's mostly about "generation changing". I mean as a millennial who started playing 10 years ago I can notice that the majority of new low elo players, which are basically gen Z, tend to be less proactive playing games where theyre behind and are way more selfish, most of em just thinking theyre somekind of anime main character. That leads to them blaming the entire world but themselves and actively crying the entirety of the match even if winnable, just because they/someone misplaied at the 3rd minute. Not saying that everyone is like that, but the percentage is increasing, due to gen Z being still a bit young and have to work on their maturity, while millennials getting older and a bit wiser and calmer than when they started playin.

      It goes both ways.
      Millennials that don't want to spend that much time in a match and if they don't snowball early the game turn into a hell. Gen Z being the kids who don't know how to take a L because modern games spoiled them to make them think they are good, but they aren't.
      I like to use fighting games as a metric. Gen Z isn't into fighting games cuz in these games you have to be mentally strong to don't give up while getting your ass beaten game after game FOR MONTHS in order to learn.
      League is already facing this phenomenon, and when project L is finished, it will face the same consequence no matter how much they try to simplify the game.
      MOBA and fighting games (i'm not even talking about RTS) are brutally hard to get into, and thats why fps will dominate forever at this point.

    Usually in my League games I was trying to be a nice guy with a healthy attitude like you and I realized that the community is just toxic, the game design allows it and it's not worth my while.
    I did an experiment a few months ago, while I was still playing LoL. I played 5 games in which I inted, I feeded intentionally, I offended everyone and even asking them to report me, just to prove a point and sure thing people promised to report me.
    Guess what happened to my account afterwards? Absolutely nothing. I still have it, no warning, no email, no punishment. I was just allowed to be toxic.

    "Ashe stop please" is the LAST THING you want to say or do. Saying anything in response to anyone griefing or trolling on the internet will never work. You simply allow her to steal farm until she recognizes that you don't mind it, and completely ignore the Ashe. Sometimes what I like to do is to bait them into a situation with the enemy and then immediately ditch them and let them die. This is a great counter strategy to start getting inside of their head, in which they will eventually highly likely afk. Now you can farm in peace.

    This has been called out so many times. This is just another brick in what has to be a 10,000,000 room mansion by this point. Meaning that Riot does not care about its gamers or its customers. Yes they say we aren't customers but legaly they dont get to decide that. If you bought a champion, rune page, boost, skin, event pack or anything else for in game content. THEN YOU ARE A CUSTOMER!
    Riot is not going to service its customer. It has been saying this for 10 years now. They dont care about the trolls. They dont care about anyone inability to climb. They only care about what has the most eyes on it in relation to its top streamers and its pro league players. Outside of that Riot as out right said they are not going change the game to address any problems for you, me or anyone else.
    The solution. Everyone needs to stop playing the game and let it die. A company will come along and pick it up and make the changes. But cooperate Riot is a toxic demon pit that enjoys making its gamers at large suffer immensely. And with out players, with out skins and the like being sold. They are sunk. So let them sink!

    Just got back into the game last week and it’s to the point where the only roles I wanna play are support or top. I tried explaining to this one person that I got the game literally a few days ago and he constantly said to report me bc “I’m trolling.” League players can’t fathom a level 14 account playing jungle in blind pick casuals isn’t in fact trolling. Of course calling out once and saying he’s an ass immediately means that “my age is showing.” Honestly people who play jungle and are chill are different breeds. Being flamed for any mistake or anything your team deems a mistake whilst also not being able to carry as easily is a different level of mental pain

Refusing to make a smurf account and continuing on my grind. I've come to terms with playing with chat completely off and often muting pings to avoid any and all confrontation on the rift. This strategy has not helped me climb any higher but has helped me enjoy the game ever so slightly more than my previous seasons of ranked solo que play. I suggest you give it a shot for your own mental. Love you friend.

    Same boat with you Rav. Jungler of 12 years, hovering around low diamond for past 6 seasons. For some reason, on top of all the downright insulting balancing that the game has had for the past couple of years, I found out I also had waaaay less tolerance for the average neglected toddler. And you are right, they are everywhere. Getting a game where all 10 players are mentally stable and committed to winning, even in high elo, is unironically 1%, and that 1 in 100 games will genuinely lead to some of the fondest memories regarding League, it's why I play after all, to give it my all and get epic moments. What worked best for me all these years was never aknowledging the crybabies. no pings, no replies, nothing. Abusive behaviour is rewarded when you give it attention, that was my approach. These people get off to feeling important because a teammate is begging them to not grief their game. In general, when they saw that we were winning without them they would stop griefing. Not when the game was even, not when we were losing, no matter what anyone wrote. Only when it was obvious that they were not going to have their way would they start playing normally again. You people that try your best to win in a 4v6 scenario, we need more of you in league.
    However, there are so many griefers and trolls out there, that's it's simply mentally draining after a few games. Riot's lack of action regarding the matter made me realize I just dont feel like fighting a part of the game (matchmaking) that is meant to help me enjoy the game more. There are numerous videos of high profile streamers manually tracking down wintraders and inters through op.gg, who go unbanned ruining hunders of games for MONTHS, not hours, not days, months! Riot in all their infinite knowledge is only willing to ban you for calling out these people for what they are: needy degenerates. For the game to make sense, for the game to be fun, the teams need to be equal at the very least in numbers. 5v5 is at the core of League's concept. They just cant advertise the game as competitive if they aren't willing to protect and enforce its core values and competitive element.
    One of the best examples: someone in my team was building AP darius, saying "they are testing it". Fun fact, Darius has ZERO ap scaling anywhere in his kit. It was pretty obvious from the way they were playing that they had malicious intend (inting, flaming, giving away our position in all chat). So I manually report this account to Riot Support, as in I open a ticket with all the evidence, match replay and an explanation, as well as match history from op.gg. where it's clear as day that they are systematically inting with builds such as only warmog hecarim and full ad morgana. What is Riot's response? "WE ARENT WILLING TO LIMIT PEOPLE FROM EXPIREMENTING WITH THEIR BUILDS". Why the fuck would I keep taking this game seriously when its own company doesnt?
