Adley is a generational talent. Totally helped turn the Orioles around. He didn’t win the HR derby but that was an epic performance
As an Orioles fan, you gotta kinda hope he doesn't stay behind the plate his whole career, it takes a toll. He's a great athlete, he could probably transition to OF or maybe even corner infield.

Yan Gomes was massively valuable in making the pitching staff better than when they had Contreras. I absolutely prefer how the entire rotation did better with him behind the dish. Put him higher!!

I’m just saying, yan Gomes really isn’t the reason why the pitching staff is better, Contreras wasn’t a good defensive catcher, the the staff is better in general. I am a cubs fan tho, and think Gomes should be higher

As a Phillies fan I wholeheartedly agree. Dude fits so well in that Dbacks lineup and is a freak both behind the plate and in the box.
Moreno at 4.2 had the second best WAR in all of the MLB behind Adley at 4.3

love seeing Campusano get some love. he hasn’t played much because of injury but when he’s healthy he’s been fantastic
Pretty ridiculous that Travis D’Arnaud didn’t make this list when Alejandro Kirk and Danny Jansen both made the list as Blue Jays
My only guess for that is because Jansen and Kirk are about the same talent wise where Murphy is an obviously better player then Darnaud even though Darnaud is good

I need an explanation for why Alvarez was above Moreno. They were both rookies and Moreno had a much better season.

I am a huge Mets fan as well but Alvarez wasn’t impressed with him he can hit HR that’s about it he’s avg defensively and he isn’t a good hitter just good at getting the ball out of the park sometimes
I'm a Mariners fan and I actually agree with Marc on this one. bwar likes Moreno but fwar has Alvarez at 2.7 and Moreno at 1.7. The difference is that bwar looks at blocking and throwing out runners while fwar puts way more value on framing. fwar also looks at quality of contact instead of just taking a player's offense at face value.

Will Smith’s numbers were down, specifically in the second half of the szn last year, was cuz he was playing with a broken rib, when he was healthy pre all star break, he was playing like the best catcher in baseball, but he seemed like he was laboring a bit cuz his bat was late most likely from the broken rib

You're lying to yourself if you think Will Smith had a better first half of the season than Sean Murphy. Murphy was in legitimate MVP discussion before he, just like Will, got hurt and cooled down.

Moreno was the SECOND best catcher in the MLB based on WAR at 4.2 (and only 0.1 behind Adley), having him at 12 and one behind 1.0 WAR Alvarez is hysterically ignorant

Moreno shouldve been higher on this list. One of the best defensive catchers in baseball, and was extremely good in the second half of the year after coming back from injury

I have high hopes for Yainer Diaz. Considering that his teammate was the guy the astros were banking on to be the future catcher and then at the deadline that guy was traded. If Yainer can get that chase rate down he could be an absolute menace at the plate.

I'm such a nerd I actually dug through all the way back stats and made a all time lineup for every team, I don't know if I still have the notepad. Don't remember who the Twins SS was either, that's a tough one🤣

Im excited to see what Wells can do for us, i think he could put up a pretty solid season. Obviously dont think hes gonna be a catcher long term, but the bat is where most of his value will be and we have Trevino for the defensive duties.

hey Marc, great list but I think that Campusano should of been at least 15 because he was electric and he was not striking out. I think he is a all around one of the top catchers in the league.

There’s actually no way you put Alvarez over Moreno
Personally, I believe Realmuto should be ranked higher than Murphy (actually Murphy should maybe be a few spots farther back), considering one of the biggest attributes a catcher can have is availability, and Realmuto caught 1,142 innings in a 135 games while Murphy caught 866 in 108 games. You can say JT caught a little to much, and Murphy not enough, due to having d’Arnaud as his backup, BUT that kind of proves my point. They both had pretty identical numbers hitting wise with Realmuto hitting a .252 avg 20 hr’s 63 rbi’s & Murphy hitting a .251 avg 21 hr’s & 68 rbi’s. In Realmuto’s case, one could argue his avg., slg., & ops. numbers were hampered due to being tired from playing so much. While Murphy’s numbers probably would of taken a hit too, considering (like you said) he started off so hot and than fell off as the season progressed. To be totally fair tho, with more games Murphy more than likely would of hit more hr’s, and had more rbi’s, then he did last season…
Always love the list and you have always been high on Cal, but this may be the first time you under ranked him, purely based off of last year plus trajectory, hes better then JT, I would say 3rd or 4th in the league

Of note, Will Smith had great numbers to start the season but apparently broke his ribs from a hit by pitch. His numbers dropped but still did fine as dodgers #3 hitter. He will have a big season behind dodgers top 3.
I recall he was good batting cleanup too when the Dodgers had Trea Turner in 22

Between Bo Naylor, Yanier Diaz, Francisco Alvarez, Gabby Moreno, Rutschman, Heim, Ruiz, Raleigh and Jeffers, there is some SERIOUS young talent at the catcher position atm. Aside from Adley, I’m most excited to see what Naylor and Jeffers will do because these kids are special.

With the game trending to preventing the running game, you gotta give Murphy the edge over Smith. But I can take into account Murphy's drop with the last half of the season in buying that Smith might be marginally better. I think the Braves need to play Murphy more consistently over TDA at this point, but we will see.

As a braves fan I say Murphy is ahead of smith but being from louisville kentucky Smith should be ahead of Murphy lol the 2 and 3 is a toss up. Both are absolute studs behind the plate

I feel like pop time should’ve been included in the stats/consideration of your ranking being an important catchers stat. And defense should be considered a bit more. Both Pinto and Bethencourt have the 1st and 3rd best pop time in the MLB, but they ended up near the end of your list. Not to be a hater, I do enjoy your videos but feel like a players value goes beyond their offense and it would be cool to see that considered more.
Finally some jeffers love!! Need to see a full season outta him, could be special
OPS+ corrects for field effects, so saying Diaz's OPS+ isn't sufficient, "especially when you play in Coors" is kinda stupid
At this point I think Marc just automatically writes off anything related to the Rockies just to give himself one less thing to think about
Heim is definitely the 2nd best pitcher. He was the all star game STARTER was the best catcher in the fi4sr half and then missed around a month during the second half and when he came back he played every other game for rest and his stats were better than most with him missing that much time. Also Alvarez is Wayyyy to high
