It should be quicker, if he started with the keys separated, and left each one in the lock after unlocking. Still an interesting challenge though, if kept on the key ring.
This was really fun to watch. Well, I'm blind, so I guess I should say it was fun to listen to. I'm just getting into picking, and despite the blindness, I'm actually progressing okay. Nothing remarkable (yet), but I'm keeping up with my peers. Anyway, this was fun, and very well done. Love your videos, man.
I love how well some blind people are able to get on on the internet now thanks to accessibility toolkits. My favourite anecdote in this vein is the world of warcraft player who's active in a raiding guild and is completely blind.
Outstanding! Because of you I decided to start lock picking. I successfully picked my first Master Lock yesterday (3/03/20). Thank you for the inspiration!
You beat my 4:44 lock picking challenge video I posted awhile back lol I have learned a lot from your videos especially with American locks. Keep up the amazing work and keep them coming.
so, i did a bit of a trial myself to this vid. i picked my easiest 140 along with you. you got 16 locks open before i could pick mine just under 5 times (had one spool to go). unbelievable. hope to get there someday. thanks for the inspiration and unneeded humbleness. haha. great video as usual sir.
one reason i hate and love this hobby. i have gotten every lock i own open at least once, but i have to do it twice in a row for me to say it is successful. i have an 'ace' lock that has 3 serrated and two serrated spools that i can pick, but i have a master 140, a ruger lock, an ace (that looks like a 140) that i can't get. gotten them once, but that is it. they are way 'easier' locks to most, but i can't seem to get them open after the first lucky pick, yet i can get a security lock with all security pins. makes no sense. love to keep trying though. can be frustrating, but rewarding when you finally get it (not that i have/will). love the vids man.
I've definitely noticed what you're referring to regarding the short driver pins on some #3s. A #3 was one of the first locks I tried to pick, and I was unsuccessful until after I had already been picking much "harder" locks.
That doesn't surprise me. Unless you know what you are dealing with, AND you have experience with addressing below shear line drivers, this flaw really can slow you down. You remind me of when I first started... I had a Master #3 that I could rake, but it took me a few months before I could SPP it! :-(
I’m actually somewhat relieved to read all this. I just started and I have a couple of 140s I can easily pick, but I can’t spp my no. 3 consistently, unless I get lucky. I have better luck raking but I that also is just luck.
Same for me, I got a No3 as my first practice lock, but I've opened 5-6 other locks and a 2nd No3 I got loads of times now - but I still only managed to open that original No3 once :(
They were generally back to front (thus the direction in which I picked them), but there was a fair bit of variation... the highest two cuts had driver pins that were too short, so that really messed with the binding order.
I'm starting to think that master lock's core market lies with lockpicking enthusiasts as nobody in their right mind would use them as actual security measures...
@LockPickingLawyer - impressive as the picking is, I was even more impressed by the smoothness and speed with which you picked up each lock and put the tension tool in it. Didn't miss a beat, whereas I seem to be constantly dropping the turning tool, faffing about trying to get the tip of it in the sweet spot and not touching that first pin. You picked the locks faster than I can place the turning tool...! Nice :)
I started picking locks when I was 8'ish (simple padlocks and safes) usually with a couple paperclips. It was never to steal the contents, but the rush of being able to defeat the locks. However, I never understood how I was doing this. Thanks to a vid from LPL a few days back, I discovered not only what I was doing back then, but also how I was unintentionally doing it. In the last few days I've gone from having an entry level LP set to picking locks well beyond my previous skill level. Thanks LPL, you have a good way of teaching LP'ing!! I'm now 37 and have a new challenging hobby to replace my speed cubing with (though both cause hand cramps :) Side note: I originally used paper clips for single pin picking, and for me that's where the fun is. I've since learned other less skillful techniques but they're less entertaining also. It's all about skill and speed for me, not just speed.
I just got my first lock pick set, pulled out a master lock no 5 from the closet and to my surprise picked it in just about a minute. Been working on it for the last hour and have been unable to do it again.
Well good news bad news. I got my first set of picks today and watched ur videos. First pick took 7 mins on the no 3. 4 minutes later I had picked it 2 more times. Decided to try my deadbolts. Less than 30 seconds each. Now I'm buying an adt security system. Ignorance was bliss lol.
I’ve got one that’s the old version that I got specifically for picking when I first got started with a couple of hair pins. I ran across McNally recently and decided to get back into it. Pulled out this old lock and all I have to do is set pin 3, then pin 2 and it pops right open. Crazy. Enjoying my CI Genesis btw.
I'm just getting into picking as a hobby and I bought a no.3 as my first tester (other than the useless acrylic one I got with my kit) and I found it was much easier to pick with some pressure pulling the shackle. Is that a placebo or something that actually plays a part in the action of the core?
I've been learning how to pick for less than a week. I got the bottom of the barrel picks to see if I could even get a feel for it. The No. 1 was the first one I popped, the No. 3 was the second. and that was on the fourth day of trying. Master locks are stupidly easy even for a picking noob. I don't feel good about using these locks to secure anything.
Are those the lock out tag out locks? With security pins? The lotto locks I've seen r like all red plastic outside. Man I'm still trying to get 10 regular master locks in under 2 minutes. This guy is like one of the best.
I do not get who the fuck dislikes these videos. You COULD NOT ask for anything more. If you are disliking it because you don't like lockpicking, get off lockpicking channels. If you disliked it because it was too long, think about how long it would take you to pick 16 #3 locks. It's not long because of the intro, like all the other youtube channels. Did you use the Peterson Gem to pick these locks? As a side note, I can't believe Peterson doesn't offer their TOK pry bar with a pre-bent option. Fantastic videos, LPL.
Thanks. I used a standard hook in .018" for this video. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of the Gem. Just personal preference. It's not a great option for reaching though warding IMO (see video 82 to see what I mean).
This gave me an idea (well, the comments did). You know how they have escape rooms. What if they have opposite and you have to break in. Maybe they already have something similar. Hell, maybe an escape room for lockpickers.
another incredible feat of picking!! The picking equivalent of putting your head in a lions mouth... can be very unpredictable locks,(for spp') especially when used! Bravo.!
Thanks... as for the unpredictability of used locks, you are spot on. That's one reason that I am using new(er) locks for these videos. IIRC, I noted that in the very first time trial video I did.
Thanks... I very rarely break picks, but I do bend them quite a bit. Just bend them back and keep picking! You might be surprised how seldom I replace picks.

Can you do a video on the technique of picking, am I using too much force, and on this particular lock when I use top of the keyway there’s no room for the pic to get in and also when I’m using top of the keyway how far do I push in the prybar because when I pushed mine in it bumped into the first pin so I couldn’t get to it. Thanks -- don't know if there are records for such things, but I'd imagine this could be beaten without much trouble. Give me a week to practice on this set of locks and I bet I could shave some seconds off. A good raker could probably beat my time as well.
Don't be so modest. Maybe by raking. But spp'd i would be surprised. Try a raking video too see.THANKS for responding i noticed you respond to all comments tha shoul be record in it's self lol lol
I do make an effort to respond to all comments (except for giveaway threads)... if you take the time to write me, it would be rude not to respond. That said, I am reaching the point at which this policy is becoming unsustainable. I don't want to stop... interacting with (all but a few of) the viewers is half the fun of running this channel.
I mean, they're LOTO locks. They're not really meant to stand up to picking, they're meant to stand up to tiredly trying to remove them with the wrong key.
I'm just starting to get into lockpicking. I have just a starter pick kit with one bottom tension wrench and a like 7 picks. I got the #3 open a couple of times with a city rake and once by spp. Now I try and go back and I can't get it open again. I hear all click into place and unclick when I release. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
This needs a follow-up where you see how long it takes to unlock them all working out which key matches which lock
probably longer

Def longer
It should be quicker, if he started with the keys separated, and left each one in the lock after unlocking. Still an interesting challenge though, if kept on the key ring.
It might take longer to unlock them all even knowing which keys go to which locks

I think he doesn't use keys in first place
When her parents come home in 5 minutes but there’s 16 locks on her chastity belt

So are we just ignoring the idea that he probably gets around enough to know how to last longer that 5 minutes?

They were generally back to front (thus the direction in which I picked them), but there was a fair bit of variation... the highest two cuts had driver pins that were too short, so that really messed with the binding order.
I'm starting to think that master lock's core market lies with lockpicking enthusiasts as nobody in their right mind would use them as actual security measures...
The problem is that they're cheap and common. If you just go looking for a padlock, that's all some basic stores have.
This makes me wanna get into the lock picking hobby. My hobby list is getting to big lol.
You can learn to do these simple hardware store padlocks in an afternoon, it's shockingly easy!
With all that silence, the "nothing on one, click out of two, three is binding" in his head must have been deafening
Somebody at MasterLock must have been sitting on the floor, in a corner, gibbering...

I mean, they're LOTO locks. They're not really meant to stand up to picking, they're meant to stand up to tiredly trying to remove them with the wrong key.
"Sir he uploaded a 7 minute video-"
"Thats great news!"
"... he picked 16 master locks"
He grinded his lockpicking so high he's doing challenge runs for lols
Are the numbers stamped on the lock the bidding?
I'm just starting to get into lockpicking. I have just a starter pick kit with one bottom tension wrench and a like 7 picks. I got the #3 open a couple of times with a city rake and once by spp. Now I try and go back and I can't get it open again. I hear all click into place and unclick when I release. Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
