You can hear Jeff Lynne's unmistakable fingerprint all over this song, through background vocals, production, arrangement and lyrics. I can just hear the fun they must have had doing this and the video is super fun too.
Couldn't agree more, @unrulyjulie This collaboration was also the birthplace of the "Wilbury" name. Jeff would find a mistake in a track, and George would say, "we'll bury it in the mix". we'll bury = wilbury.
Beautifully said my friend. 👁✌🏼👁
Absolutely.. This has more Jeff than George in it.. Just imagine if Jeff was born earlier & had become a Beatle.. What great songs would we have from that.. Then again we wouldnt have all those great ELO's songs.. Yeh i'm glad Jeff was never a Beatle 🤣🤣🤣
indeed and love it
You should have pulled up the official video. It's amusing and features Ringo prominently
George was such a beautiful soul. My favorite Beatle.
The song definitely references the Beatles many times in many ways (both lyrically and musically) but also shows the influence of of Jeff Lynne. Fabulous collaboration.
No shit
Yes, Harrison wrote Taxman. They were getting taxed at a 95% rate - "should 5% appear to small/be thankful I dont take it all." The song is a reflection on the Beatles years, but it's not only about the Beatles.
They had to move from England to avoid those taxes.
Throughout the song your hear little motifs from songs of theirs, especially ones from the Magical Mystery Tour era.
Right. I was just going to tell Hari, you do realize that’s Ringo on the drums? Despite the early bitterness of the breakup of the Beatles, all of them would at one point or another always feature Ringo on the drums. And, if you look at all of the ex-Beatles solo albums, their best ones had Ringo on them. Of course!
"you really got a hold of me" that's George's nod of approval to Smokey Robinson
The chord progression is bittersweet deliciousness
You HAVE TO SEE THE VIDEO FOR THIS FANTASTIC
Ringo on drums!, just an amazing track
Jeff Lynne -- who produced this album -- had to convince George to bring out the sitar and play it on this track. George didn't want to do it initially since he hadn't played one in decades!
George's 1987 LP Cloud 9 was critically acclaimed and Beatles fans loved the return of George to the airwaves. George worked with ELO's Jeff Lynne as co producer on Cloud 9. The seeds of the Travelling Wilbury's were sown with this LP's release. Take care Hari, RNB
And we have Ringo on the drums and backing vocals here. This is Beatles meets ELO.
There's a fantastic video that goes with this song. Jeff Lynn produced this song. As you can clearly hear, he went to great lengths to give the song a "Beatles" sound. Great song!
Ringo was playing on this song. The video is very cool.
I can detect Ringo's voice in some background vocals near the end.
This song has "I Am The Walrus" vibes. Always loved the sitar ending on this
It's very Lennon-esque. Love it!
For another great song by George Harrison looking back, check out "All Those Years Ago". This was George's tribute to John Lennon, after his assassination. It is tuneful and heartfelt. A must listen!
Some people get away with watching the great video for this. The I Am the Walrus sound is all over this. The video too.
I love Ringo's drums on this track!! He definitely brought back the classic sound of his drums on "A Day In The Life" and "Strawberry Fields Forever".
That's Ringo on the drums.
It sounds like a fun song but the message is deep.
The "When the bus (or buzz) gonna come and take you away" is certainly about Magical Mystery Tour period and concept... The rest of lyrics is so mystical and so related to how The Beatles shocked the world like "Like strangers in the night". I really love this song!!
6:00 Lol :)) And random voices
Jeff Lyne from) ELO and the Traveling Wilburys )in the back vocals and production . ✌☯️peace
This song has a special meaning to those of us who can remember the 60's. My favorite Harrison song is "Beware of Darkness" on All Things Must Pass. I know you'd love it. Great reaction, Harri.
Yes, Harrison wrote "Taxman".
Please consider George's "Blow Away" and "Crackerbox Palace."
Masterpiece ❤😢
Oh man, you really need the video version of this. Never miss the chance to see George being awkward and funny.
Hi Harry! Yes you are very close! Everything in the song is a throwback to the Fab 4. Including obscure lyrics as John would have had it. : )
You know I love your show! Fantastically entertaining to watch your reaction. I’m going to ask you to step out on faith. Please do a show for me on Nico and Vinz’s “Imaa Imaa”. They are another whole new world! You’d never run out of material working with the Beatles, but this universe is about limitless abundance! And Nico and Vinz are springing forth from that universe!
Yep, 'Taxman' was one of his creations with the group. The video of this song is hilarious, Ringo and Jeff Lynne are also part of it.
"Strangers in the night", "It's all over now, Baby Blue" and "You've really got a hold on me" are some of the songs mentioned here.
Check out Ringo's song for George "Never Without You" It's the Best! It's got a great reference to George in it. So personal and well written.
You are right: Taxman was also a Beatles song - written by George Harrison in 1966. But the references are also in a musical way by using 'Beatles features' in the song.
Thank you for your reaction.
Produced by George and Jeff Lynne (from ELO). You can also hear Jeff in backing vocals.
So cool...
I loved this album, but this was the song that got me to buy it. Crammed full of Beatle-isms, it's supposed to evoke his time with the Fab Four (Though not the Pre-Fab Four - Maybe someday you'll take a look at The Rutles). The video for this song is fun, too.
When George sings "but it's all over now baby blue" he sounds just like Neil Innes
He incorporated some of the dissident key changes developed by John Lennon. I thought this was Harrison's tribute to John.
Yep, definitely a reference to “I am the Walrus” in the arrangements and overall progression
Tax rate was crazy then around 70 percent tax . Remember the kinks had a similar song sunny afternoon. On the same subject. All iv gots this sunny afternoon. The tax mans taken all i got
There be GEMS in this field laddie! Keep scratchin’. No fool’s gold here !
It's even better to see he music video CZcamsGeorgeHarrisonVEVO
There are references to the crazy vocals laid down by The Mike Sammes Singers on ‘I Am The Walrus’ in this song. It’s so beautifully written, sung, presented and produced, methinks.
Great analysis and insights from you, Harri. The line “Now it’s all over baby blue” brings some of us to Bob Dylan grinning whilst singing that line in the documentary called ‘Don’t Look Back.’
I’d forgotten how the listener gets a sense of both Ringo Starr and Jeff Lynne in the track. I like that line about microscopes to magnify the tears and the hello to The Kinks and their big hit ‘You Really Got Me.’
Line up: George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and Gary Wright (Spooky Tooth).
This Guitar Can't Keep From Crying - George Harrison. Great song.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps, with the Eric Clapton solo?
@@IllumeEltanin he’s referencing a track that was on George’s album Extra Texture. very underrated
@@VasChordum
Thank you!
The Fab Four
In light of today's news about Charlie Watts, I'd like to respectfully request the Stones "Wild Horses, Ruby Tuesday, and Mixed Emotions. Peace to you, Harri.
Harri I certainly wish you to critique the Beatles, Hey Bulldog Promo Video. Absolutely incredible!
You should definitely watch the official video for the song. It has many visual references of the Beatles and that will help you understand the lyrics.
Watch the official video for this song..it's amusing and interesting.
Jeff Lynne's presence is very prominent on this one. Besides co-writing and production duties, Jeff adds a lot of background vocals. He also plays bass.
The song title references "The Fab Four", aka The Beatles.
Fab Song! Love it! Reached the Top Ten here in Canada ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦
Fab was 60's slang for fabulous. Hence The Beatles were referred to as the "Fab Four".
This was one of his best albums. A great song from an earlier album of his is “Blow Away.”
You should watch the video for this track. Both Paul & Ringo appear in it, though Paul's dressed as a walrus.
Ringo is in the video and played the drums for this track
All things must pass.
The Piano is so Beautiful prägnant great 👍 i love the End wonderful
For those of you wishing Harri had reacted to the awesome music video of this song instead of just the audio-only version, Peter did request the music video, and I'm certain Harri tried that, because I just tried uploading the music video to CZcams myself, and just as I figured, it said, "Blocked in all territories.", by UMG. Bummer. Harri, please watch it on your own time, if you haven't already. It's fab! lol Chock-a-block full of visual Beatles references that are not in the audio-only version, it's really fun to try to find them all--it's like a moving puzzle! Of course, my main man, Jeff Lynne has a couple of cameos in the video, as he co-wrote and co-produced the song. Jeff also plays bass, keys, and sings backup on the track. Great stuff! The song, and album, resurrected George's career and, to borrow a line from Bogie in Casablanca, marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship between Jeff and George.
To me George Harrison had the Beatles sound.
Harrison is the Beatle Sound
Jeff Lynn played on this.
Now react to "The Inner Light and Within you and Without you. Great Harrison sitar work on both.
There’s of little Easter eggs in this song, like “ it’s all over now baby blue” a reference to his first wife pattie Boyd whom left Harrison for Eric Clapton.
This has a great video with Ringo
If only for yourself, check out the video of this, Harri...sooo fun. ✌😘🎶🎸🎹💞
Oh, btw, how about reacting to 'Beware of Darkness' from the Concert for George...Eric Clapton is so clearly deeply moved throughout the concert to be paying loving musical tribute to his late friend, and this one feels truly special. 👍😉💖
Yes, he's referring to when they were called The Fab Four. Yes, he's referring to his song "Taxman". Too bad you didn't find the video.
Imy favourite George Harrison solo song is without you . Its amazing
George didn't have a solo song called Without You, unless you're talking about the Beatle's song Within You Without You. George was the only Beatle on it.
That is a tribute song for George written and performed by Ringo
@@DavidGigg That song is Never Without You.
SEE THE VIDEO MAN IT WILL CLEAR UP SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS AND IT'S FUNNY
It isnt amgibuous; it includes the negatives. And not only taxation.
Baby blue was a reference from a song beatles wrote for another group. The 1 or 2 singers from that trio actually committed suicide, therefore it's all over..
There's a lot of gems on this album, also please checkout his posthumous release Brainwashed, particularly Rising Sun and Marwa Blues. Much respect, my soulbrother. There are many Lennon/McCartney/Harrison, and even a couple more Starr gems waiting for you to discover them!!!
Too bad you couldn't have watched the official video that they put out for the song as you listened to it. I think it would have added to your appreciation of it. Good ol' Ringo was in it. Even so, thank you very much for reacting to it.
The video has Ringo Starr in it as well. They were the "Fab Foursome"
May I suggest one of my favorite George Harrison songs. Try listening to the title track to the Living in the Material World album. It also has some Beatles references. Also it has a good rocking sound to it with Billy Preston on keyboards, and George has a great slide guitar solo in it.
All references to the past.
But it's all over now, baby blue (Badfinger Baby Blue maybe )
(Oo! doot, doot doot. Fab!)
Long time ago when we was fab
(Fab!) Like this pullover you sent me (Fab we all know from fab four)
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot. Gear!) (Gear a common beatle phrase meaning like cool)
And you really got a hold on me (Smokey Robinson song they did)
(Fab! Doot, doot, doot, Gear!)
Bob Dylan song "It's All Over Now Baby Blue". The best version is by Them.
@@kenchristie9214 Best version of what? Baby Blue was a Badfinger song . George was most likely referencing the fact that Ham from Badfinger was dead.
This Classic Highlights George's Sense Of Humor,, GEORGE HARRISON "CRACKERBOX PALACE" (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
The official video to this is really FAB! Ringo is in it as well. The whole Cloud Nine album is really good. Its my favorite.
And Elton John
you need to watch the video clip.....a lot of reference ,ringo on drums , the apple reference , a cameo of elton john, i m the walrus reference , a tribute to the plastic ono band ect ect ..... the full album cloud 9 is harrison on the top .....please react to cloud 9 song with Clapton on guitar
React to I'd Have You Anytime.
mix of ELO and Beatles
Alright, I looked up the lyrics and found an item saying that the song was written for John ("you are the only one I love") before John died, but he released it a few months after John was killed. Another line : "like the t shirt that you sent me".
Hes just talking to John about the old days when "the grass was green" and "income tax was all we had". Towards the end he says "it's all over now, baby blue" (a line from Dylan) and ends it with "you really got a hold on me" (a Beatles song from way back when) .
He’s just reminiscing throwing in a lot of references to old hits done in a humorous way.
They were always called the Fab Four. They were also called Gear. That was 1960's slang for anything that was great, cool...
Every song on this album will be a diamond to your ears.
Jeff Lynne produced this album for George and you can really hear his influences on it especially on this track. You mentioned a modern Beatles sound and that is what ELO was. Jeff Lynne also produced Tom Petty’s album Full Moon Fever shortly after Cloud 9. One of Petty’s best selling albums just around the same time the Traveling Wilburies were formed. Lynne also helped produce and write songs for Roy Orbisons album Mystery Girl at this same time along with Tom Petty. So Jeff Lynne was pivotal in producing a bunch of albums around 86-89 that had huge successes and bringing top tier talent together!
Yes George did Taxman (Paul did the complicated solo in his avante garde style ) The Beatles and the stones were both hit with incredibly high taxes ( Keith Richards always says 90%, but that seems exaggerated) the Stones moved to the south of France and the Beatles considered buying their own Island off the coast of Greece,
Thanks
I'm coming in late here and hoping you'll still see this. You're very much on the right track by referencing the Beatles' psychedelic music. This is seen in the sitar (which more specifically recalls "Within You Without You") and Magical Mystery Tour nods, such as the repeated two notes alternating, as in "I Am The Walrus."
For further reactions to George Harrison's solo work, please consider any of the following:.
- The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
- Any Road
- All Those Years Ago
- Dream Away
- Devil's Radio
- What Is LIfe
- Horse to the Water (with Jools Holland).
Finally, thank you.
Loved it !!
You should watch the official video George made for this song.
It is avante guard ish. very interesting
Shows George and Jeff together at their best. Wait ! That's Ringo !
I strongly suggest Harrison's song "Beautiful Girl".
Harri you haven't listened to any of his "Indian songs" that he recorded with the Beatles - "Love You To", "Within You Without You", "The Inner Light". It's time for you to hear those songs.
If you haven't listened to it yet, you should react to "Within You, Without You" by George Harrison while in the Beatles. It was his first song really with the sitar.
Harrison played it "really" in 1966 for the Beatles-Track on "Revolver" "Love you to" and 1965, I'm sure, you know it, on "Norwegian wood (this bird has flown). Especially "Love you to" is something like the "invention" of "Ethno-Pop".
@@braudabo I forgot about "Love You Too." Thanks for the reminder. It's a great song. But my point was, John used George on the sitar in his song "Norwegian Wood" prior to George recording his own song using the sitar.
Please do "Wreck of the Hesperus" from this album or "Cheer Down", from around the same time.
It's funny when the group first split up they distanced themselves from their old style and songs. Later they found fans still loved that music so they sometimes made references back or in this case a direct mimic of the old '67 sound from 'I Am the Walrus' (Whoooo!). Why not, every else was copying them and cashing in, XTC, The Smithereens, Klaatu, ELO.
In Vefic Astrology, Libra Ascendant pele are called Shivspujitha. Thst means they spend a lot of money on worshipping deities. George Harrison has a Libra Adcendant.
Venus the ruler of Libra, stand upside down living on nothing but the air that he bresthe to worship Shiva.
Anybody who worships Shiva also pleases Vishnu. And Krishna is a reincarnation of Vishnu. That is why George harrison worships Krishna.
please react to four guys beatles solo songes stiched together one of them is when we was fab. someone created album everyday chemistry and says it was produced by beatles from paralel universe. please react to it "four guys"beatles
It's supposed to sound like the Beatles
When he sings 'and we did it all', he sounds like he is boasting and complaining at the same time. John used to call the Beatles' early days 'Satyricon on tour'. George always said that they gave up their nervous systems to be the Beatles. It never seemed to sit well with him. He was born with a sense of Western values but pulled in a non-materialistic Eastern philosophy direction. He had fame and fortune thrust upon him that would follow him all through life no matter what he did. I feel certain he had deep conflicts about having it all and, perhaps, liking it too much at times when he shouldn't from a spiritual or philosophical standpoint?
