Perez has the chance of a title battle for the first time in his career and he's binned it twice in Q1 in just six races... People talked in the past how difficult mentally it was for Valtteri to compete with Hamilton for more than the first 5 races of the season, Perez has the same problem. When going up against Verstappen or Hamilton it's virtually impossible to beat them because they're just mentality monsters with elite consistency and they just don't feel pressure like other drivers do. Verstappen's final sector today vs Perez's qualifying is just a complete contrast in how they deal with the pressure of being in a title battle.
Facts. There’s a reason nico retired after 16.
Bottas can barely beat Zhou.
Nico Rosberg gave Hamilton nearly every season a good fight and one fight that he won.

5 teams in the first five positions, 7 teams in the top 10, how can you beat that? Great quali session. Max put on one of the greatest pole performances at Monaco ever. A master class.
Hopefully it is BANGER on Sunday.
OCO, LEC and ALO all did a lap that was unbelievable.
Then Max said "hold my can of red bull" and did something out of this world, even brushing the walls 3 times.
Not even mentioning Hamilton in Q1 and Q2 antics, the MCL engineers in Q2-Q1 and Matts girly squeaks.
We witnessed an historic quali that will be spoken about for decades to come, arguably the best quali ever that I can remember.

Max pulled a monster lap when needed. I wanted Alonso to have that pole but that final session was amazing.
Max really was supreme in that final sector, just bonkers to pick up nearly 4 tenths...
Saturday is all you need to watch here. definitely full of wow moments
@@bipolarminddroppings I think the aston martin is the better car at monaco. the red bull drs probably helped max for like a tenth but Max will just push the car to its limits. I think that 4 tenths is where Max makes the difference from someone like Alonso. Alonso is great in that car but he wasnt willing to risk it all there like Max was.
He pulled a monster sector out, that was perfection. My word Im sick of hearing Verstappen on pole but that was special. 2 tenths down with just a few turns to make up the time, and he did it.
Same here and I am Dutch 🙂

@@suckieduckie dawg , I am aware that Max past nine people and I am aware that many overtakes happened, but there was almost no tension at all, because even when Max caught up to Sergio, Max was on way better tires, and there was just no contest, I understand that for the most part F1 is usually actually pretty boring and that 2021 and the first half of 2022 lulled a lot of people including me into a sense that this sport was a lot more exciting than it usually is, but this I think it’s safe to say this season is particularly dull, even when Lewis was dominating Sebastian put up way more of a fight than anybody is giving to max right now.
@@TrustworthyFox37 If you can't enjoy the midfield, than F1 might not be the sport for you mate. Sadly a season like 2022 where we got half a title fight is already a bit above average. Up front it's not as exciting, I'll give you that. But the midfield is great this year.

They didn’t show it, it’s not in the official highlights, such a shame.
Thanks for mentioning him, Tom!
Yuki on his 3rd set of brand new tyres when everyone else was setting times on old tyres that had in some cases done 3 runs. It's not very impressive when you realise that. @@volkanuzug1824 Alonso went purple in sector 3 until Max beat him.
@Craig Robertson well tell that to albon. Also you can see max gained almost 2 tenths on one corner where alonso was quite bad. I'm not saying max is lucky or anything it's just isn't as good as his jeddah lap imo. Although he said he knew he was down so he risked it all and congrats to him
@@sheldoniusRex no, he didn't. It was the first third sector in the top 10. He wen't green.
@@volkanuzug1824 its really the risk max took after swimming pool and the fact that he has a better approach than all drivers including alonso through rascass to final corner which in fairness any driver could do if they had the style or skill for it. I saw the gps trail how much time he gets through rascass on alonso.. and peter windsor showed some pictures of how max positions for that corner vs alonso and perez (to show its not car specific). max is shortening that corner tremendously (more difficult and acute apex).. while everyone has the easier wider approach there... cause its a tricky braking zone

Agreed! Have fun 😊
Amazing to still see some content while you guys are out enjoying the race!
Man I love the way you guys are doing things these days! Keep at it, please and thanksyou
I think that quali has shown how good piastri is aswell, 1st ever quali in monaco in f1, under immense pressure with a dog of a car and he was right there with lando who is considered by most to be top 5-6 driver on the grid and lando was clearly pushing or he wouldn't have crashed. Piastri is really managing this season well staying out of the spotlight keeping he's head down and performing. Yes he hasn't had any bangers but he also is being consistent something that can not be said about 90% of the rookies who enter f1. Compare piastri who had a year out of racing to de Vries who has had more seat time then any other rookie possibly in history. Piastri is proving himself
Piastri to red bull ? I can see it
@@Tsagan that would be amazing but I wouldn't want he's career to be spent as a 2nd driver

This qauli was better than all the races this season, also Max is Thanos and clearly used the time stone in the 3rd sector.
That was a really exciting qualifying. Most street circuits make the drivers look like titans, but there is really something special about Monaco on a Saturday.
There has been some people whinging about the ending Q3, honestly if you didn’t enjoy the excitement of Max’s last lap and appreciate what he did in the final sector, don’t think f1 is the sport for you, in it for completely the wrong reasons

awesome stuff fellas
Matt and Tommy I do hope you enjoy your time in Monaco. But know that I miss your livestream. ❤
I'm a huge fan of time trials racing, so I appreciate what Max has done today. That was probably the single best lap that I've ever seen on any course, in any discipline. It was as close to perfect as it gets in sector 3. It was really like a work of art, it was that good. I just hope everyone is appreciating what we are watching. Don't take this for granted guys.
I can't agree that it was the best lap on any course when 2/3 sectors were slower than Alonso - amazing last sector, but hardly the best lap ever
@@matthewkerr1948 agree on the whole lap part. But Defo the best final sector of any "time trial" style lap Ive ever seen. Incredible.
@@matthewkerr1948 You have to consider the uniqueness of F1 tyre strategy. You can really only be on the limit for 1 sector. Alonso got 1 sector pushing, 1 from track evolution. Max saved up all of his tyres for that final sector. Which is why he could gain 3 tenths in 5 and a half corners. Because it comes down to tyre strategy. That's why not going all purple around Monaco in a modern F1 car isn't required for best lap. It's about where you use the tyres.
But it's all bunk anyway, because the best lap ever was Greg Murphy's Lap of the Gods around Bathurst. The greatest track, in a mighty and unruly V8. No complicated aero. Manual clutch shifting. A full second faster then anyone else that weekend in cars where half a second would be insane. Can't get better then that.
@@matthewkerr1948 Not every car is equally good in every sector though. In a spec series you may have a point but that sector 3 made up 3 tenths in a single sector.
Honestly, if and when Verstappen retires from F1, he undoubtedly has a potential career in either time attack, hillclimb or stage rally. That last timed run was an absolute blinder and that sort of insane one-lap pace is exactly what's needed in those disciplines where you get one timed run over a given route.
On Leclerc’s 3 place grid penalty: “why is he doing it in the tunnel so much…?” Missed opportunity boys 😂
The legend of King of streets died tonight.
It was when Alonso was on pole. I thought for sure he would have it.
Turn one is going to be ridiculous.
Before Max finished his lap I would have gladly taken Alonso's pole, but frankly that was the most amazing qualifying lap I've ever seen and Max unquestionably deserves pole. So much risk, so much precision, so much speed, and getting that mixture exactly right, not getting it good enough, but exactly right. Until we see a driver touch the apex and exit of every corner along the track I doubt we'll ever see such a committed lap from anyone ever again, and considering he's at least theoretically in a title fight... bwoah... It's almost unreasonable that he should risk so much, If Horner was angry at him after that lap I'd get it, unbelievable.
I firmly believe Verstappen has a career in Stage Rally, Hillclimb or Time Attack after F1; that insane one-lap pace is exactly what you need in single timed runs. If Verstappen does retire in 2026, Ford needs to get this man in the Rally1 Puma!
@@legoferrari14 Max is not gonna retire in 2026 >> he has a contract till 2028. He is going to try the RBPT-Ford for 2 years and if it turns out to be a failure i can see him calling it quits. Max likes Endurance, i bet you he is going to do WEC once his F1 career is over.

ill be honest here, max vs fernando would be like a dream come true. 2 of my favorite drivers in a heated battle, what a lovely thing to have. I'm just really sad vettel isn't here for it.
Monaco needs its own point system where qualifying gives half of the points.

The track is too small for these modern cars and unable to have a decent race, but boy is the qualifying unmatched. Best drivers in the world showing their skill.

I haven't yelled at F1 since v6's

That was a great qualifying
Monaco could be a time trail event, one qualifying session on each compound to determine the points would be great.
Yea that qualy was epic oh so close for Alonzo and i am usually in agreement that the Monaco race itself is an absolute snoozefest but this one thanks to the rain and a few laps of chaos turned out to be a very entertaining race for a change, but F1 seriously needs to look into finding a way to improve the actual race, there needs to be passing, soooooo 🤔how do we accomplish that? Great video
Q3 might be the best session of the year.
Amazing qualifying, usually is at Monaco. Everybody gets exicted "is Monaco fun again?" And then Sunday comes along...
Monaco I've always considered more of a Time Attack circuit than a proper racing circuit.
Nooo! My Sunday isn't complete without the P1 tweets!
What a lot of coverage didn't seem to notice about the Perez crash was that a part of his car entered his cockpit and wedged itself between the side of the headrest and the steering wheel, meaning he wasn't able to turn to the left, effectively forcing him to turn to the right, thankfully for the best.
Wasn't that after the crash not before it?
Pretty sure that would be after the crash when something would fly into the car
DURING the crash, I didn't say causing it.
