- Ever wonder what the bracket on the rear wheel of the HMMWV was for, well here it is. Use it to make a field expedient winch. The information can be found in FM 21-305.

Do a demonstration!!
I should have, but since sold the Humvee.
Who knew, I always wondered that that hub was for.
That is actually for tie down not for using as a winch or recovery , however it is very interesting that it can be used for this purpose as well
I thought for the longest time those were for tie downs as well, but in TM 55-2320-280-14 it shows the only tie down points are the shackles on the front and rear bumpers. FM 21-305 shows that they are for self recovery.
That is to tie down the humvee to flatbeds when transporting. front ones shouldnt be installed incase you hit something and dont want to risk going out of control
you might break your halfshaft if you put that sort of load on it.
I talked to the Hmmwv Mechanics at my unit, and they reconfirmed that there only purpose is for self recovery and not for transporting.
thanks alot pretty slick trick
The credit goes to Army FM 21-305
Your second knot was in the wrong direction.
It would’ve unwound had you backed up.
Ha, I should have gotten it stuck and actually did a demo, I would have realized the mistake.
They are on early, non A2 ( airlift) rigs. The future A2's have airlift bumpers and no rear wheel lift points. The shackles bolt to them.
Got it.
Dude that was so good of information really. I have hit a couple of 4 locos now and that is brilliant man!! I just won a bid on a two door truck variant and paying for it tomorrow Friday. Is this on all Humvees I will have to look at my Iron Planet pics to see if it is there. What is it called because you can install anything on these rides. I am subscribing fucker so post some more cool shit. Peace with an AR man
yes it is, don't be surprised if you have to wait two months to get it, and if you have any issues with it let me know I have pretty much taken mine completely apart.
I though you gonna actually do ot
It would have made for a better video for sure. Maybe someone else can do it, I have since sold the M998 :(
Duhhhrrr that hub is for the Vtec man... get your shit together... Humvee Vetc ...
Just going through my comments and see I missed this one. 5years late lol. I am curious what the Vtec is. I was going off of what the Army FM 21-305 says it was used for.
Wrapped the wrong way around on the first wheel:)
Ha, my mistake, I should have actually got it stuck and I would have realized this.
👎 I can tell you with absolute certainty, this is a very good way to break an axle. Anyone who’s never gotten their Humvee stuck has not done any serious off-roading with it.
Got our Humvee stuck this weekend in a very deep rut that that every vehicle that attempted it. Use this trick but with a chain (all we had that was long enough). Worked like a champ.
@BH15 I agree probably not the best thing for the axle, but army FM 21-305 recovery manual shows this technique. I guess if you have no other option it's better than leaving it.

Thank you man!
No problem!
