I'm Mariah Alice, and I live the "solo female van life" with my dog, Finn. We've been on the road full time since June of 2020, and although our road has been met with what feels like a zillion ups and downs, we've finally gotten to the point where living in a van feels like home. Sometimes we're alone in the woods, sometimes we're alone in a desert, sometimes we're chasing snow or thunderstorms, sometimes we're trying to see all 50 states, and sometimes we're making weekly videos here on CZcams talking about our feelings, anxiety, loneliness, seasonal extreme sadness..... yeah. I don't know what I'm doing with my life. And that's okay. I think :)

Your description of your driving seemed spot on and to grow you need to take risk. You made it, that is all that matters. Just remember the people who may roast you have more than likely been in the same situation and maybe they didn't do as good as you. My many years of rock crawling in a jeep and equipment operator has taught me to judge less as I could just as easily be in that person's situation. It's nice to see you keeping it real and living life. Good job.

Looks amazing!! Finn is adorable! So,, I always have this slight heart palpitation when I see you in the dark way out in no where alone. I am pretty sure that’s my mom heart as I remember being your age and sleeping out in the middle of no where in a old pick up truck. LoL I have no doubt you can handle yourself, so please take no offense when I say I worry for your safety. My daughter is 25 and I still call to make sure she makes it home from work after it has snowed. LoL I am happy for you however taking this adventure and handling your ups and downs. This was a LOT of fun...though we totally understand how harrowing that drive was (without cell reception and in mud and slippery conditions). So happy that it all turned out well, but really, truly understand the anxiety AT THAT TIME. But, you did it. Yay!

One of the things you said at the end of the video hit home. "This life isn't sustainable"..." I didn't realise how much I wasn't valuing myself " To be in some of the best places on earth, in such calm (theoretically) conditions - yet feel as you did - really shows the need we all have for balance. Work to live. Valuing yourself over work/money - I wished I had learnt that lesson many many years earlier in my life.
Oh and time for me to Google the closest hot springs. That looked sooooo good! Take care 🤗

Definitely love my Garmin as well and count on it in the backcountry. A good set of all-terrain tires and some traction boards are also great to have to keep from getting stranded!
I grew up where you are now, all my memories came flooding back. Awesome now I have to take a road trip for a few days. Thank you…many a moment at those very hot springs in my younger days. Wild times back then.

@@benburndred2226 they are on Amazon . A personal device to be able to get help etc. When no service or ppl are able to help . Highly recommend, on the road or camping, hiking, you never know nowadays. Be safe ✌

Hot springs in winter are truly amazing. I sat in that exact hot spring in January a few years ago. The road in was covered in snow, and the hike was pretty slippery, but it was totally worth it. There's another hot springs about 10 miles south of there right off Hwy 4 which has a natural sauna cave. 10/10, would recommend.
Really enjoy watching your videos. I'm going to try and travel around out west this summer living out of my car. I have wanted to travel out there for a while and after seeing your videos I finally decided I would try.

Great video! I would suggest putting in a 4x4 package (Im sure it’s pretty expensive) or switch to a van with 4x4. Sounds like a hassle but if you’re going to be in stormy or muddy conditions somewhat constantly it’s 100% worth it! Really necessary in my opinion. Again great video! Stay safe out there :)

That hot springs looks like the one I went to with my granddaughters. Up the mountain from Santa Fe. Yep same one. We went in Dec and yes cold. We laughed and laughed as we tried to put on our dry clothes from our wet - cling to us- cold ones. 🤣😂

I find solitude in the back country of the Colorado Rockies and as you pointed out, the Garmin In Reach is the number one safety item to always carry. Looking back after the fact always gives you 20 20 vision. To be honest, sounds like you done great given the split second choices you had to make. Mistakes are great, never feel ashamed of making them, brush yourself off and learn from them.

Aero Press tip: Put the coffee on the plunger, add water, put filter on, flip to cup and then remove plunger and add more water as needed... This way the coffee mixes into the water much better.
