What I find most interesting is that the subject (Derby) can't speak and explain what's right/wrong about each iteration, so the process really takes some smart analysis and intelligent redesigning. I'm also impressed by the dog's ability to learn and adapt to the prosthetic legs.
How can I get that for my little Maltese?
Ask around the places that have the ability to make prosthetics. Just be prepared to dish out thousands for it.
I could probably design it if you can bring me a 3d scan of the dog and get it printed myself but I dont have the time atm.
Able to walk = good iteration
Happy dog = good iteration
What more do you need? Have the dog speak in English?
WhiteWolfos do you think this would costs buttloads of $?
Emma Stone's long lost sister
+Richard Jr come here looking for this comment. not disappointed.
+Richard Jr She really does look exactly like her. Amazingly so.
I think I'd take the smart engineer chick over the Hollywood chick any day.
+1lapmagic Just stop. The only gf you'll ever have is the fleshlight.
+Richard Jr lol I was gonna write that.
+Richard Jr Thank you I was watching this trying to think of what the actresses name was.
Such a brilliant woman to make something like this. BRACO!!
+Mario Addis BRACO :D!
I'm glad Emma Stone helped this poor dog.
I was about to say that too xD
I never comment on youtube, but this... I was thinking the exact same thing. :-D
@@archiethebeagle7924 Hahaha I thought the same. They could be sisters!
When I read this I was actually writing an email to colleagues that started out: "Emma Stone's twin loves pups!" haha
Very impressive used of technology, and most importantly the ability on helping humanity.
+Orlando Ruiz : Err....... "Dogmanity"!
When I saw your first video, I noticed the awkward bend on Derby's back using the first design and I thought it might strain her back. So I dug around if your team did follow up work - glad to see you guys did it. This is amazing work.
He is happy and running. That's a beautiful thing
Thank you to everyone involved in helping this doggy :) It makes me happy to see this.
He is a cute little boy :)
This's super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Derby is my favorite dog in the world right now! Thanks for your amazing work to help him!
Its good to see people helping him and I will try to help him too.
From what I can see there is crucial part missing and that is the suspension or shock absorbing part that the fingers wrist and forearms do on a normal dogs front legs. At the moment he is walking on his elbows and the shock loading off of the ridged surface he is walking on is being transmitted directly to his shoulder joints. I see an attempt has been made to do this and that will take care of the big impacts, but the sum of lots of little impacts can also be detrimental.
(I spend a lot of time on my computer and if my RHS mouse table is not at exactly at the correct height i.e. too high then it pushes my inflexible humerus bone up into my shoulder joint and after a few hours it starts to hurt a lot, and I am not even walking on my elbow).
If the bottom 1/3 of the bottom loop of these plastic legs were to be cut off and a large (the size of the internal dimensions of the bottom loop) closed cell foam piece were to be epoxied into the hollow bottom area then when he walks on them the larger amount of softer impact absorbing material, should do a better job at protecting his shoulder joints. Those legs need a lot of soft stuff in them that can carry the load but take any jarring out of the impacts.
I realize that, that will remove most of the shock absorbing functions of the existing designs loops, but I think it will replace them with a softer ride in the end.
Because he is not a sprinter he doesn't need to recoup the energy so the current leaf spring design, is not necessary. He just needs to be able to _walk on air_ as those front shoulder joints may also be a little deformed too.
That look on Derby's face.... what joy!!
What a sweet baby. I wish him well. I just wish all dogs missing limbs could get something like this. :)
+magnoliasouth Yeah, but sadly 3D printing a leg/limb is probably not cheap. :(
+magnoliasouth most are put down after birth, breeders know they wont sell
Needs more actual footage of the dog and his sweet, sweet new gear.
This is wonderful, I just think this is a loving event for the Derby & mankind itself. If we spent time, giving love away, the world would be a better place...
Derby! Derby! I'm glad that he's doing well, and it was great to hear how the prosthetics had to be adapted because bigger wasn't better.
Thank You to these Intelligent, Creative and Caring Humans for helping Derby to live a better life.
This is so amazing! With the technology we have now, the sky's the limit!
They need to support derby's shoulder with the prosthetic, as well as allow for grip on the forepaws. I know this seems trivial but these added comforts I believe would increase this animals range of motion. At the moment, this is much like running on its knees.
I love my floof pack(Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, and a cane corso x rottweiler mix) my Husky recently had a emergency Pyometra surgery and my GSD tore her ACL, so we have had a run of bad luck, glad to see others push forward as well.
Derby LOOKS ~~SO~~HAPPY💓💗💓💗💓💗HOW AWESOME TO HEAR HIS STORY!!! I HOPE THAT JE LIVES A LONG & HAPPY LIFE!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING HIS STORY!!!!💖💜❤️💝VERY AWESOME💝❤️💜💖
sleduji tento příběh,vidím že derby už má nové protézy,děkuji vám,Taro jste úžasná žena s pozdravem jura česká republika
This is awesome! Great Job helping Derby!
what kind of people dislike this video ?! theres 11 people who should be ashamed of themselfs and probably needs psychiatric help... anyway this dog is truly inspiring,so is the owner and everybody who contributed to making this dog live happily 👍👍👍
To tyra Anderson, I wish you had shown more footage of derby running. I can see he is upright with no strain to his back. However, his legs seem awkward unlike the smaller prosthetics where have an like the wind!
Wow, that's so awesome!! It seemed like he could go a little faster on the short ones, but I'm sure he'll adjust. He looks SOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!! This story made my day 😊
Did anyone notice that Derby's adopted mom changed?
Sherry Portanova. She's the same...
just her hairstyle changed
Long and happy life to the people that help Derby.
This is wonderful. I hope in 10 years it will be so inexpensive and common these stories occur everyday.
Hi, my Aunt keeps a rescued dog. One of her front legs is injured and she cannot walk properly. Where can I buy or get the blue print for this prosthetic leg? I would like to adjust the data and make 3d printed prosthetic leg for her.
Probobly online but they cost a lot
Hello! Have you solved your problema?sadly I'm dealing with the same here...
Thank you guys for doing this, what an advertisement for not just you lot but humanity....
Slainte from Eire....
This video blew me away. It's great to have smart people working to accomplish things that won't make
them overnight millionaires. Kudos to the engineer.
So adorable! Love seeing people help our little friends :)
So happy for Derby. Live long and prosper.
Glad to see there are people out there willing to make the effort to help man's best friend with these sorts of challenges, and happy to see Derby taking so well to his prostheses.
And with those adorable little forearms he has, his owner next Halloween should totally dress him up with a T-Rex front-half costume.
HURRA POR USTED SEÑORA QUE LE BRINDA TANTO AMOR A ESTE HERMOSO PERRITO.
Phenomenal! I'm glad that you let your creativity take shape. Derby seems very willing to experiment. Thank you so much for doing what you've done. You are inspiring many people. Even people who may not be able to create these types of prosthetics realize that there are options for pets with disabilities. There are so many wonderful dogs and cats who add so much to a family in spite of their disabilities. To think that not very long ago those same animals would have likely not lived very long is sad. But, things are improving. I'm SO GLAD for all of you and adorable Derby. 💙💜❤
thank you for helping the dog
You guys rock!!!!!! Bless each and everyone on the team.
It’s certainly a lot of trial & error, and within the realm of error, you realized as she stated that something that works small, doesn’t necessarily work larger.
Often I find I’ve had ideas or designs that look good on paper but in reality, they just don’t work. The last design, did get him straighter, more level which is great & he can sit normally, but I noticed he didn’t seem to be able to run, as he could with the lower arc design.
I would think the blade type design be an option, like human athletes wear who have lost legs, they seem to have a spring action that I would assume assist in forward motion.
i look forward to following Derby's story. thx.
Derby looks so happy
Tara I am so glad to see your work!
It is still some hope to find good people in world!
Great job!!
This is the cutest thing, made my day :D
If you don't pay too much attention, you'd think he has real legs! I love it.
good job. now for the next step. full front leg replacement with paws and cybernetic motion
Love the running at the end. Is there more of it?
Oh I'm so happy for him!
This is amazing, look how he’s walking, it’s too cute
Another update would be amazing
thats so cool, thanks for helping him out :).
peace from nz.
God bless all of you who helped him
yes this is very better thank you for helping derby
Amazing. Because after watching the first video I did worry about his spine, him being so low on the first ones. But this is awsome :)
This is fantastic!!!!! I was so moved. What a great way to use technology. Thank you all Team Derby, to help this Husky get his freedom again. I had sciatic pain for several days - mindbending pain - and I realized how much I took my legs for granted when I could not walk. I cried with joy when I got my legs back. Derby must feel the same way.
Please tell me - how can I get in touch with these folks - I have a rescued little dog with a luxated patella - a congenital issue with this breed. Any chance I could make a prosthetic so he could get his 4th leg back?
I like how his little arms stick out lol its cute
People who disliked the video have no hearts.
Violet Raven クリスタル So you think the dog should have died because it has defective legs, despite being healthy in general?
Violet Raven クリスタル why put down ? This dog is enjoying his life even more and fuller . He’s way happier now and it’s a success so why put down ? Why spent on “normal” dogs ? That dog is still a dog it deserves the same thing
Woah, my grammar in that comment was horrible . Lol
Violet Raven クリスタル
That seems equivalent to putting down a child for having a deformity.
Random Art no even close kid
What a beautiful dog.
🔔 Over all Derby seemed better off with the original prosthetics. He ran happily for MILES at a time. Unfortunate as it was that his body wasn't parallel to the ground, so far that seems the first and best option so far. 🐕
its amazing this dog wasn't put down after birth to be honest, 99% of all dogs born like this are, and trust me, dogs being born like this is actually quite common, there all put straight to sleep, breeders know they wont sell.
fabuladeum that's why you don't buy from breeders
this and the first video almost made me cry
Hello, congrats for the amazing job. I recently rescued a dog from the streets, he was with a serious injury in one of its front paw and sadly the last resource was to amputate it.
Since then I'm researching on how to create a prosthesis for him, to me its being very sad to see him with just three paws, almost unacceptable.
So please, could you from 3D Systems or anybody else here with some experience with dog prosthesis could help me with my dog?... I would be very gratefull ame happy.
Thank you all!
This made my day *.* If only we used all the technology to improve lifes on this Earth not for wars and manipulations...
You guys are the shit!!! Would it help to have the crutches also support the top of his arm to his bicep, something like a z shape to give support and bounce back so all the force of standing and walking is just on the bottom of the arm and elbow... Like how his crutch is shaped like an 8 with his elbow sitting in the v shape but add a Z shaped support above the v from arm to bicep... Hope I explained a visual picture...
wow...super cool.Tks for God and the new Tech. It seems that the 3D printing can do what anything we want. Great !
i think maybe they can add some absorber at the bottom of that prosthetic parts which is kind of spring that can adjust it self according to the dog movement..
just an opinion thou..
great story. apparently a great product too.
Who the fuck disliked this miracle?
So happy with the update!
You made my day lady . Thanks !!
This warms my heart so much!
Do you take appointments for consultations? My foster needs options.
He was involved in a hit and run back in October, was picked up by Animal Control and the rescue group took him on as a rehab case. He's had more issues with his legs than was expected. One shoulder is luxated and has healed by making a new ball and socket joint. The other shoulder has nerve damage from the elbow down and the muscle has now atrophied. We've tried splints to keep his leg straight and help him support weight on his bad leg. That worked for a short period of time. We started making braces for him and that was becoming very time consuming and expensive changing his bandages daily and keeping any new sores clean and padded. The rescue and I are exploring the possibility of amputation from the elbow down with a prosthetic similar to Derby's. He can get up and go but not without shredding his arm or twisting in an unnatural way. JoJo, my foster, wants to run. All he wants is to feel the freedom of running without help. Can you or someone you're affiliated with help someway?
WTA wonderful story!!!!
essa impressora salvou o caozinho
pena que tenha pessoas criando armamento pesado valeu brasil
What a cute doge.
Thank you
Excellent!!!! ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hes like a little trex :) hes so cute
Very cool and inspiring! You just earned a new subscriber! :)
Really awesome 3D Systems , well done! :)
Wonderful and Amazing!
Magnificent!
What technology can achieve these days!
What does it cost to buy a set of these?
This truly is inspiring 🌸. You are just beautiful. Really. You are a beautiful soul ☮️
How is Derby today? Please release an update. But in my opinion Derby walks better with the lower bionic legs.
Amazing!!! Go Derby!!
is there any way to have the part that attaches to the leg sort of "float" so that the rest of the leg could be able to be directional or pointed straight always? i only say this because it appears they arent staying perfectly square and straight after some walking, they are sort of shifting on the leg a bit. I could very well just be mistaken.
think the alignment of a car
Why did the lady say “He sits like a real dog sits”? Derby is as real as any dog.
is SLS the material used for the 3D printing? also, how did you strap him into the prosthetics?
Where can I get this prosthetic? I want to buy one for my mother's dog, she has the exact same problem as Derby, although she's a bit bigger so a thicker leg would probably be necessary, but I want to know how much it cost, please!
Awww amazing beautiful dog 😊
WHO WOULD DISLIKE THIS?
I get being an asshole, I love fucking with people, but this is a video just filled with love. I don't get how you dislike that.
how can I contact the people that did the prosthesis? I need this for my rescue dog, because according to my vet he is going to stop walking soon!
Why not try the design from blade runners?idk if it was because it couldnt learn to walk straight after too long and thus stuck to the inwards wobbles he does.
Poor doggo. It look so cheerful and doesnt feel it's different....
Hello! My Yellow Lab has a deformed foreleg, and I would LOVE something like this for him, Especially as he starts to get older, and the improper alignment of his body really begins to affect his joints, and mobility. Where can I find out more about this, and who to contact? Thank you!
He looks like a small t rex how cute
Awesome.
