Miss Adjusted she's integrated now, and now that her consciousness has merged with everyone else's, Wyn is experiencing the negative emotions that Mistletoe silently harbored. I think she was just in SO much pain, and at first she dealt with that by helping others through THEIR pain and being maternal and compassionate to them, but it seems (from what I can gather) that when Wyn found out about her DID, she no longer knew who she could trust because she couldn't even trust any of her own memories. This caused her to protectively cut off like EVERYONE from her past, which included some people that Mistletoe loved very deeply. So when Wyn cut Mistletoe's ties to those people (not intentionally, she just wanted to stay safe!) I think that truly awakened Mistletoe's vengeful and cruel side. Since she's been integrated, Wyn will just get these waves of intense emotions that hit her hard, and I can't remember which one but I think it was Johnathan, just kindly reminds her, "yeah, that's Mistletoe." So I think now that Wyn can feel Mistletoe's feelings she has a better understanding of why she was the way she was, and I've seen Wyn reply to someone's comment about Mistletoe saying that Mistletoe did the best she could with the limited life experience she had, and that she forgives her and knows she was just trying to do he best. I think the whole situation with Wyn and Mistletoe was just a big wad of misfortune.
We are a newly discovered system. They prefer "cluster", almost after Sense 8 (I. The host, like, Wyn, thought we were going through a similar situation as the show, but after much therapy, learned differently). It has been a tough journey and I don't even know anyone in it yet. I gave met only Mika (Mee-kaaa, not Mie-ka) though a journal entry, and then last night through many hours of welcoming and inviting.
It just amazes me that the human brain and consciousness is capable of all this. It just shows how little we know about our own consciousness. I think people With DID are very important to our world though not very well known but can help us understand so much about ourselves and are just amazing and inspirational. I hope I'm not being insensitive but that is what I personally take away from all this.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, our therapist said we were his only DID patient whose alters came out in twins. Almost all of our alters have twins. Our gatekeeper or memory keeper is named Gate his twin is Gabriel that protects our three animalistic alters. Our original personality or the body personality has never aged progressed passed the age of 5 and does not come forward except when necessary in therapy, she stays inside and plays with our other children alters. We just love your channel, thank you for all of the time and effort you all have put into these videos they are so informative and enlightening. Thanks for sharing your experience! I also live in Idaho USA lol. I have not been formally diagnosed with DID, but I am near certain I have either that or unspecified dissociative disorder. I have people who talk in my head and I frequently lose time. I hope you are doing well!
I have two fictive alters. Both of them are people from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Understandably, they get really upset (or super temperamental in Frank’s case) when revered to as fictional characters since they are just people who happen to have formed with the appearance and personality of fictional characters. Frank-N-Furter is probably the alter I front the most. He helps me be more assertive since police to push me around, harass me, or take advantage of my kindness. He loves being the center of attention which gets on everyone else’s nerves sometimes. Then there’s Janet Weiss who helps me in situations where people try to police how I deal with my trauma. She also makes me take care of myself when I’m not in the right mindset to do it. Right now she’s very confused and excited by everything because when she was born she thought it was still 1975. My system’s little has been having a fun time trying to trick her into thinking certain things are not what they actually are. Janet fronts when I’m having sensory overload or when I’m too stressed to deal with certain situations. A lot of people who meet them think it’s just me acting which hurts them a lot and makes me have those awful “what if I’m faking it” thoughts. ~Ashton
As the partner of a person with DID and bipolar I so appreciate your loving candid sharing....we’ve been together for several years and although I’m very close to 3 of them, I’m always learning so much of what you share helps me so much. We don’t see it as a disorder and have a problem with that a bit because the others who are co conscious can really help with bipolar and ptsd issues by stepping up and helping out when the host is unable to cope. For me, it’s just a normal part of my life and I get to love and live with more people than just one. Thank you again soooo much xxx
With our system Kai's job is Librarian. He holds back memories, sorts and cares for them as each Alter slowly adds new memories to our pearl tree. The pearl tree he guards and protects as he is the only one that can approach it without the memories affecting him. Our alters when they feel that Kyran, our current host, is ready for the memory will cry a pearl to add to the tree. Kai then decides when she is ready to begin learning the new memory. ~Saiya
I have a pup alter. He's very hyperactive and comes out when I'm in large crowds (unless he gets over powered by a more introverted alter) I haven't discovered his name yet but I know when he is active. Once at an anime con I was running to every cosplayer I saw asking for pictures. I feel like I have a gatekeeper and a robot too but I don't see them often.
My protector came to me in dreams at first. I only met him (when awake) months later. It was like he was playing kind of hide & seek for some times the inner world. Thanks for the vid, it adds more sense to my experience.
I’m personally what my headmate and I like to call a “coping alter”! After a long night of contemplation, we have discovered that I was born out of a need to let Tyler (the aforementioned headmate/our “original”) cope with his traumatic relationship with his mother. I occasionally am able to calm him down during panic attacks or other situations caused by his trauma, however, as that is extremely hard for me, I am mostly around to be someone to control the body while I give him time to sort of regress into the headspace to deal with the situation, if that makes sense. I would not necessarily liken myself to a protecter, as it isn’t my job to come out when or protect him from harm, but more to make sure the body is fully functional, able to maintain and form relationships, and physically unable to harm other people (as Tyler has a very hard time not acting on his violent impulses during those situations.) after the fact. (I started out as a fragment, but I’ve developed a somewhat cohesive personality since, thus not labeling myself as such)
It’s so interesting that you can basically regulate memories, and have so much control over your mind. I had always thought that was something of a metaphor or people could only do that after a lot of training or meditation or something. I don’t know how other people without DID feel, but I find it really hard to imagine having so much control over my mind and my memories or actually keeping them in a sort of ‘physical’ form in my head. I find it really fascinating that there are people who actually just have that or do that.
Our main gatekeeper/emotional protector/memory holder started as what would be described as a robot alter. He does not really have emotions at all. I do not know if he is capable of emotions. A few years after his creation we saw Star Trek and he took on the outward characteristics of an adult male Vulcan. In fact I (host) got tired of calling him "Adult male Vulcan" and we agreed on the name Sarek. He said he would be honored to be called that. He is very much a fully formed alter. The interesting thing about him is that if he comes near me (host) or our little and we are struggling he can suck the emotions off. In fact he is good at calming down and caring for EVERYONE even our physical protector. Actually he has saved our lives by forcibly fronting when we were REALLY BAD and rocking our little to sleep (who was fronting) then putting and keeping all of us asleep for over a day.
Oh! That's very interesting that twin alters are a thing. We do have two Littles that are literal twins, and they have completely opposite behaviour, one is eager, trusting, excited, the other is very angry and mistrustful, neither of them will speak. We also have a number of computer alters. One is in charge of the Inner World, and the other two are our memory keepers. Our memories are like data in a computer. They used to look like balls of light when our Inner World was magical, it's far more technological now.
We have a caretaker who makes sure everyone new is taken care of and is comfortable and doesn't turn into our current short fuse prosecutor. Our caretaker is also a trauma holder and lived most of my life and she took most of our trauma and the fighting between my parents. She is 19 and I'm 22
We have a dream alter who experiences our nightmares for us. I know he’s been there when I wake up in a cold sweat, having had no dreams, and a half-empty can of Dr. Pepper on my nightstand. Finish your drinks, man.
Some of our alters take up multiple jobs. The alter that has been around the longest has recently taken up a "trainer" role so that someone can take her place once she decides to integrate/go dormant/retire/whatever she decides to do.
That's what W did. He was our gatekeeper/memory holder/usual 'runner of the show' (the term we've used for people in these roles is 'executives') for a long time and knew he was getting worn down, so ~10 years ago he began training Selcothe to take up his position once he became too burnt out by life. He's still around and likes to hang out and come up front sometimes, he's just really really tired all the time. Haven't seen an intentional training aspect of any system roles described much before, so this was nifty to hear someone else has

@@xraeynex I think you mean to credit these videos to @The Entropy System, lol. Our body just happens to have the same (very unusual) name as one of their headmates. Their videos have been helping us a lot as well, especially with getting past that feeling of 'we must just be crazy and making all of this up'. We're still early on in this, too-- not in knowing we're a system, but in realising that being a system isn't how most people's brains work, accepting/embracing the challenges that come with that, and starting therapy for it. We have an alter that has a LOT of (executive) jobs, too. She's a machine, I don't think she'll ever retire. She doesn't experience feelings like we do, and she doesn't communicate like we do, but she's definitely sentient and aware. She's also our Inner World. She used to be Hogwarts when we were little, now she's a TARDIS (she doesn't really look anything like the movies/series).
Wow, so awesome. We have two specific memory holders in our system, one is a written version which records everything in written form in the headspace on the walls of her room, the other records everything visually, with photography and painting/drawing. I always thought they were gatekeepers, but actually memory holders is a person category/job name! Such a great video! I was curious, where do people get the names for their systems from, I'm wondering because I've seen it a lot, especially in chat rooms.
We only made ours for the purpose of social media. From what I've heard from a lot of other systems that seems to be the trend. It's an easy way to refer to the whole system at once and we find it fun. -Wyn
I’m new to your channel and I enjoy your videos very much . I was diagnosed a year ago but I no longer go to therapy since my therapist left. I have 29 that I know of and it’s overwhelming. Bea and Phoenix might be twins. I know they've both been around since I was a kid, but idk when exactly they formed as I don't remember most of my childhood. But Bea is a persecutor and Phoenix is our emotional protector.
Your memory keeper seems a lot less chaotic than ours… both our alters with gatekeeper style powers have the ability to yoink memories and have access to all of the main systems memories, but Puck can just take them from his brain and share it straight into ours if he wants…
We've just recently realized that our gatekeeper and memory holder is a non human fictive from the TV show Supernatural. He never comes out into the body really he has showed up once in a therapy session. We have a lot of fictives partly due to the fact that fandom is and always will be a very big coping mechanism and a huge part of our life in general. OML when we get into a show or really anything (music, CZcamsrs, etc.) it becomes such a big part of our life. We have had many fictive alters come and go (some integrated while others just sort of went into the galaxy and became a star in our inner world). We also have a few factives most of these are Korean Idols or musicians. It was very cool and interesting to watch this for sure! That ending was hilarious, party dreams every night I can't imagine.

So I have a non-human alter who’s basically your Jacob/Jonathan in one, and he has a sort of apprentice alter; Ryan (human) who does little jobs and runs errands and things things since the non-human alter can’t go everywhere. I only recently had a dream (both of them can control dreams) about how Ryan became my non-human alter’s kind of apprentice. They’ve also given me dreams about the inner-world, alters, and memories.
I always find your videos really interesting and informative, I think it's really good to learn about things like DID from the perspectives of those who have it, before finding your channel I knew a bit but not a whole lot about DID but I feel I'm learning a lot!
Just on the mention of dreams, I was wondering how that worked for everyone else. Like if wyn is dreaming does everyone else see it, do you guys dream individually, how does that work?

I had a bad February this year. I depersonalized and lost speech and my appetite and had major anxiety ( this has happened a few times over the years and always takes me by surprise) I’m feeling better now though. My dreamworld is extremely vivid and Lucid and there are places where I have a bunch of friends I hang out with and book stalls and sci fi conventions.

Oohhh, that's a tricky question. I'm going to say yes since the host doesn't necessarily have to be the "core". By core, of course, I mean the part that spent the most time in the outside world. DID is always full of surprises so I imagine that there are systems with a host who is also a twin alter! -Kit

your channel has helped me so much I am not able to get tested for DID or DDNOS, but when I am able to, I will. I never realized that they were different people, I've always seen them as moods, but it's not the same... so I've been seen as moody instead of realizing I was switching. In therapy my social alters come out and when asked to go into trauma I've always said, "it takes to long to go there, and once we get her out, therapy is over and you don't have to calm her down later...you don't have to deal with shutting everything back down." I didn't realize I was describing DDNOS.
Daniel: OH! We have never heard the term Twin Alters. We have two littles who seem to fit that description. As for the emotionless alter, ours is not a robot nor are they an inanimate object. They exhibit the traits of Alexithemia. Which allows them to function in an enturely logical and calm way when we need.
Congrats on the 1.1k! you're doing great! I'm a protector in our system, and consider myself almost a co-host because of all I do here. Things have changed a lot since I was created. I resonated a lot with the gatekeeper position that you were talking about, as I tend to run things inside as well as out here. It was interesting to find out that that's a role of it's own often, especially inside. I have some twin alters 😳 Didn't know it was a thing 😳 [I'm new in knowing it - my system have been amazing doing their job, in March I "was born" tho, and our last host are dormant or at least not really reachable... It's her name on this account.. I was created to call out system out (make each other known to each other), we are finally a safe and good place in our life. It's a bitter sweet experience. The vengful b*** comment made me laugh harder that ive ever laughed in years it feels, i am 21 and I'm serious wgen i say, i laughed so hard i nearly shed tears of joy. I love you guys and appreciate your existence so so so much, i feel like whatever I'm going through mentally is very similar, if not the same diagnosis. Idk ill spare you my story for now, but know I'm very greatful to feel not so alone with my experience, and very greatful for how sweet you guys are, and honestly this is so helpful all of your videos. I will never self diagnose, but i hope what I'm finding will help my therapist find out what different "traits" i have, so that we know what to do to help me slowly become more of a functional person. 👌 i mean, im pretty awesome as it is, but i don't mind becoming even more so.
I love the way you make your videos, they make it so easy to understand. I'm so glad I came across this video in particular because it helped make sense of a lot of the things my son is talking about in counseling and with me. his counselor seems so blind as to what he's talking about. I am trying to get him seen by a specialist but I just found out he may have DID so I told his doctor. now he sees this counselor who has no idea what's she's doing I think. and she has to be the one to refer him to a specialist.
Our system doesn’t actually have a gatekeeper or a memory holder....I guess we just don’t need either! We have lots of other jobs though! Most of the alters are either protectors or caregivers! Anyways, great video Kit! Very informative!
Do you think that a recurring, lucid dream could be an alter trying to communicate? I have never been diagnosed with DID, and don't expect to be necessarily, but have been through some significant traumas in my childhood & feel like I'm experiencing things through a looking glass sometimes. I often have recurring dreams (& have since childhood) over and over that make NO sense to my waking life (but I know I'm in the same setting, sometimes for different reasons & the characters remember me from dream to dream which is weird). The dreams are so vivid, and I have had sleep paralysis several times a week for the last couple of years. I'm not looking to have DID...I'm 46 & its the last thing I want.
It's cool to hear other people talk about keeping trauma memories as orbs or colored balls. Out of curiosity the orbs you mention, are they glass or made out of something firmer? Or does it depend on the situation?
These videos are so fascinating and educational. I have a separate personality, called laia. I wouldn't call them an alter as it's a new development and not diagnosed or anything. But they're much more present when in a conflicting situation, though it kinda freaks me out how cynical they are. When laia was stronger before, we were browsing psych tests just for fun and she took the P-dap I think it's called? Basically the psychopath checklist. She got 27/40 really freaked me out 😂

All right so I have a little to unpack here. For years I have had these waking nightmares. They tend to some on when I am in especially high pain or very uncomfortable (I have chronic pain from health problems) and put the body into fight or flight. Adrenaline comes on, makes the pain better, and once the adrenaline wears off too much I get in one of these nightmares again to get a flush of adrenaline. These dreams are very structured and often follow a story line. I have a lot of control over the story line, but I feel like I keep getting dragged or sucked into specific ones. I think a specific one or two of my alters could be helping to create them. Is there a name for that kind of alter role?
Some system's goals is intergration, so making all the alters kiiind of fuse into one personality, one identity. Of course it will always look a little different comparing to someone who doesn't have DID. Sometimes integration just happens, Entropy made a video about Mistletoe integrating. It was her choice to do so, she's no longer an alter on her own, she cannot switch and front anymore. Some systems choose to co-operate and live their life like that, it's as valid as integration. So yes, alters can maybe not disappear, but become a part of a single, shared personality :)
Hi Kit, I have recently discovered I have DID and in that found an alter who was an ex-host (she used to host when we were a teenager but adult stresses caused her to retreat deep into the head space) do you know of any other systems with alters like this or do they usually intergrate?
Wonderful you have showed an taught me so much. What do you do about a very negative alter. That speaks loudly imy your head? That puts me down a lot during the day?
Question: Can a memory holder get rid of a memory? Like if it is a bad memory can they just fully get rid of it or pick and choose an alter to not remember that memory?
So im still trying to figure out if i have DID/OSDD1B or not, and these videos are so extremely helpful! I know that significant others and super close friends have mentioned two different alters, one who is a persecutor to a T and then another who is kind of a mix of memory keeper/gate keeper/protector. He claims to be a computer who runs programs and keep files like computer coding which i find super interesting! Though i do have a question, is it possible/normal for the host to only really be able to see the inner world through dreams? (Once again i appreciate what you do here by giving an honest and unfiltered view into what DID really is without the stigma and romanticization ♡)
I had a dream where I was in a familiar dream house with a friend who I spent the whole dream with. Then near the end he let me know that we are the same. I looked at my mouth out of body and saw that whenever he spoke, my mouth was moving. Yet he had independent thought and I didn't know what he was going to say. This opened a barrel of monkeys in my head😅. Earlier today I asked what his name is because we are apparantly co conscience, and he immediately said "Tom". I told myself "You just made that up" then he snapped back "No. My name is Tom. I'm sure of this." Then I got visions of what he looked like when he described himself, and he was the guy from the dream.

For Example, when I searched in Libraries for Books about DID, I found most of the Time nothing about it, or only Books, that are more like Fiction or Tales for Children... And over a certain Timespan, in a specific Library, I saw the Number of Books about DID droppin from a few Books to zero Books.. I do not know why this is, but is this similar in other Countries?
Unfortunately this seems to be prevalent world wide. Despite the fact that it's been in the DSM for over a decade there are still people who think it's fake. It can be extremely difficult for people with DID to get proper treatment because of this. Hopefully research of the disorder will improve and this stigma will get wiped away soon. -Wyn
I don’t think so. The main diagnostic criteria is having at least two fully formed identities and dissociative amnesia. If the alters never ever came out there would be no amnesia involved in their presence, so I would assume that would fall under OSDD-1b. I’m not a mental health professional, though, so I could be incorrect. -Wyn
Hi kit! I know this video is a bit older, but I'm hoping you still read comments on it! My boyfriend of a year and a half and I actually both live with D.I.D. And your channel is very informative because where we are, many people (even professionals) don't believe D.I.D is real. They think it's all psychosis or schizophrenia. So as far as seeing D.I.D normalized and learning more about it through videos, we LOVE your videos!!! I do have a question. Do you think it's possible for an alter to exist that none of the other alters know about? Not even the core or host? I've been having lapses in memory a lot lately and I'll find things written that none of us wrote or things done none of us remember.
Haley Quinn I also wanna add into this! There was a video by multiplicity and me where they talked about their system's sexual alter and one point they were very keen on making is that "sexual" alters are not just genitals with legs, that they're their own personalities too and that to treat them as someone that only thinks about sex all the time is insensitive and immature. Thank you for bringing up this question, I've wondered it as well but didn't have the guts to ask for fear of looking like a perv >.>
I litterly just had a si. fi. dream about me being a a.i. and being forced out of a girls body,and put in a cylinder computer and put on a wall,and then a part for something about devistators hands.(2nd transformers movie person/group.)
So I just found out my friend Kristina has DID and she says she is a boy (she also refers to herself as she most of the time though). I myself is transgender and so my question is can someone with DID be trans or is it another headmate?
There are three transitioned systems I know of on youtube, the 'Alexandrite System', and 'Acrylic and Aether'. In our particular (non-transitioned) experience, all of us are either cis or agender in the headspace, but we're something like 6 cis guys and 2 cis girls who front regularly in a female body (which looks nothing like our own, even in the girls' cases). Some of us guys use female pronouns outside just to go with the flow, some of us feel uncomfortable doing so and ask others to use male pronouns with us (or use male language, since our mother language is gendered unlike english), sometimes even I'll slip and use male language accidentaly even though I'm usually fine using female pronouns. Since we're not out as having DID, we just tell people we're gender fluid (we're technically not, I'm pretty sure one of the systems we mentioned have actual genderfluid alters). I'm aware it could be offensive to real genderfluid people, but just saying we're trans and changing the presenting gender would make the girls very uncomfortable (as well as a few guys who cannot stand doctors and outerbody modification), so it's not an option for us. So, things can get very complicated.
They definitely can. The idea of "alter types" is to offer people who don't have DID a rough understanding of how we work together. It doesn't define us or restrict who we are, though, and one alter may have multiple different "types" assigned to him or her. -Wyn
Wyn is the host/who the body was born as. Kit, Jacob, Leto, Mi, Karen, Jonathan, Daniel, Mistletoe, and Josh are her alters/other personalities i think i listed all of them

And that the "roles" don't define an alter's abilities and they don't restrict any of them either. So yes, alter jobs and roles are not restrictive and one alter can take on more than one "role," the functions that these alters serve tend to be classified into jobs/roles to help those of us without DID better understand the main things that these alters do :)
Mistletoe is a very interesting character. She’s so motherly and protective, yet at the same time, very vengeful and petty.
Miss Adjusted she's integrated now, and now that her consciousness has merged with everyone else's, Wyn is experiencing the negative emotions that Mistletoe silently harbored. I think she was just in SO much pain, and at first she dealt with that by helping others through THEIR pain and being maternal and compassionate to them, but it seems (from what I can gather) that when Wyn found out about her DID, she no longer knew who she could trust because she couldn't even trust any of her own memories. This caused her to protectively cut off like EVERYONE from her past, which included some people that Mistletoe loved very deeply. So when Wyn cut Mistletoe's ties to those people (not intentionally, she just wanted to stay safe!) I think that truly awakened Mistletoe's vengeful and cruel side. Since she's been integrated, Wyn will just get these waves of intense emotions that hit her hard, and I can't remember which one but I think it was Johnathan, just kindly reminds her, "yeah, that's Mistletoe." So I think now that Wyn can feel Mistletoe's feelings she has a better understanding of why she was the way she was, and I've seen Wyn reply to someone's comment about Mistletoe saying that Mistletoe did the best she could with the limited life experience she had, and that she forgives her and knows she was just trying to do he best. I think the whole situation with Wyn and Mistletoe was just a big wad of misfortune.

We are a newly discovered system. They prefer "cluster", almost after Sense 8 (I. The host, like, Wyn, thought we were going through a similar situation as the show, but after much therapy, learned differently). It has been a tough journey and I don't even know anyone in it yet. I gave met only Mika (Mee-kaaa, not Mie-ka) though a journal entry, and then last night through many hours of welcoming and inviting.
I forgot my point, completely, that was weird...

It just amazes me that the human brain and consciousness is capable of all this. It just shows how little we know about our own consciousness. I think people With DID are very important to our world though not very well known but can help us understand so much about ourselves and are just amazing and inspirational. I hope I'm not being insensitive but that is what I personally take away from all this.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, our therapist said we were his only DID patient whose alters came out in twins. Almost all of our alters have twins. Our gatekeeper or memory keeper is named Gate his twin is Gabriel that protects our three animalistic alters. Our original personality or the body personality has never aged progressed passed the age of 5 and does not come forward except when necessary in therapy, she stays inside and plays with our other children alters. We just love your channel, thank you for all of the time and effort you all have put into these videos they are so informative and enlightening. Thanks for sharing your experience! I also live in Idaho USA lol. I have not been formally diagnosed with DID, but I am near certain I have either that or unspecified dissociative disorder. I have people who talk in my head and I frequently lose time. I hope you are doing well!
I have two fictive alters. Both of them are people from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Understandably, they get really upset (or super temperamental in Frank’s case) when revered to as fictional characters since they are just people who happen to have formed with the appearance and personality of fictional characters. Frank-N-Furter is probably the alter I front the most. He helps me be more assertive since police to push me around, harass me, or take advantage of my kindness. He loves being the center of attention which gets on everyone else’s nerves sometimes. Then there’s Janet Weiss who helps me in situations where people try to police how I deal with my trauma. She also makes me take care of myself when I’m not in the right mindset to do it. Right now she’s very confused and excited by everything because when she was born she thought it was still 1975. My system’s little has been having a fun time trying to trick her into thinking certain things are not what they actually are. Janet fronts when I’m having sensory overload or when I’m too stressed to deal with certain situations. A lot of people who meet them think it’s just me acting which hurts them a lot and makes me have those awful “what if I’m faking it” thoughts. ~Ashton
As the partner of a person with DID and bipolar I so appreciate your loving candid sharing....we’ve been together for several years and although I’m very close to 3 of them, I’m always learning so much of what you share helps me so much. We don’t see it as a disorder and have a problem with that a bit because the others who are co conscious can really help with bipolar and ptsd issues by stepping up and helping out when the host is unable to cope. For me, it’s just a normal part of my life and I get to love and live with more people than just one. Thank you again soooo much xxx
With our system Kai's job is Librarian. He holds back memories, sorts and cares for them as each Alter slowly adds new memories to our pearl tree. The pearl tree he guards and protects as he is the only one that can approach it without the memories affecting him. Our alters when they feel that Kyran, our current host, is ready for the memory will cry a pearl to add to the tree. Kai then decides when she is ready to begin learning the new memory. ~Saiya
I have a pup alter. He's very hyperactive and comes out when I'm in large crowds (unless he gets over powered by a more introverted alter) I haven't discovered his name yet but I know when he is active. Once at an anime con I was running to every cosplayer I saw asking for pictures. I feel like I have a gatekeeper and a robot too but I don't see them often.
My protector came to me in dreams at first. I only met him (when awake) months later. It was like he was playing kind of hide & seek for some times the inner world. Thanks for the vid, it adds more sense to my experience.
I’m personally what my headmate and I like to call a “coping alter”! After a long night of contemplation, we have discovered that I was born out of a need to let Tyler (the aforementioned headmate/our “original”) cope with his traumatic relationship with his mother. I occasionally am able to calm him down during panic attacks or other situations caused by his trauma, however, as that is extremely hard for me, I am mostly around to be someone to control the body while I give him time to sort of regress into the headspace to deal with the situation, if that makes sense. I would not necessarily liken myself to a protecter, as it isn’t my job to come out when or protect him from harm, but more to make sure the body is fully functional, able to maintain and form relationships, and physically unable to harm other people (as Tyler has a very hard time not acting on his violent impulses during those situations.) after the fact. (I started out as a fragment, but I’ve developed a somewhat cohesive personality since, thus not labeling myself as such)
It’s so interesting that you can basically regulate memories, and have so much control over your mind. I had always thought that was something of a metaphor or people could only do that after a lot of training or meditation or something. I don’t know how other people without DID feel, but I find it really hard to imagine having so much control over my mind and my memories or actually keeping them in a sort of ‘physical’ form in my head. I find it really fascinating that there are people who actually just have that or do that.

Our main gatekeeper/emotional protector/memory holder started as what would be described as a robot alter. He does not really have emotions at all. I do not know if he is capable of emotions. A few years after his creation we saw Star Trek and he took on the outward characteristics of an adult male Vulcan. In fact I (host) got tired of calling him "Adult male Vulcan" and we agreed on the name Sarek. He said he would be honored to be called that. He is very much a fully formed alter. The interesting thing about him is that if he comes near me (host) or our little and we are struggling he can suck the emotions off. In fact he is good at calming down and caring for EVERYONE even our physical protector. Actually he has saved our lives by forcibly fronting when we were REALLY BAD and rocking our little to sleep (who was fronting) then putting and keeping all of us asleep for over a day.
Oh! That's very interesting that twin alters are a thing. We do have two Littles that are literal twins, and they have completely opposite behaviour, one is eager, trusting, excited, the other is very angry and mistrustful, neither of them will speak.
We also have a number of computer alters. One is in charge of the Inner World, and the other two are our memory keepers. Our memories are like data in a computer. They used to look like balls of light when our Inner World was magical, it's far more technological now.
We have a caretaker who makes sure everyone new is taken care of and is comfortable and doesn't turn into our current short fuse prosecutor. Our caretaker is also a trauma holder and lived most of my life and she took most of our trauma and the fighting between my parents. She is 19 and I'm 22

We have a dream alter who experiences our nightmares for us. I know he’s been there when I wake up in a cold sweat, having had no dreams, and a half-empty can of Dr. Pepper on my nightstand.

Some of our alters take up multiple jobs. The alter that has been around the longest has recently taken up a "trainer" role so that someone can take her place once she decides to integrate/go dormant/retire/whatever she decides to do.
That's what W did. He was our gatekeeper/memory holder/usual 'runner of the show' (the term we've used for people in these roles is 'executives') for a long time and knew he was getting worn down, so ~10 years ago he began training Selcothe to take up his position once he became too burnt out by life. He's still around and likes to hang out and come up front sometimes, he's just really really tired all the time. Haven't seen an intentional training aspect of any system roles described much before, so this was nifty to hear someone else has

@@xraeynex I think you mean to credit these videos to @The Entropy System, lol. Our body just happens to have the same (very unusual) name as one of their headmates. Their videos have been helping us a lot as well, especially with getting past that feeling of 'we must just be crazy and making all of this up'. We're still early on in this, too-- not in knowing we're a system, but in realising that being a system isn't how most people's brains work, accepting/embracing the challenges that come with that, and starting therapy for it. We have an alter that has a LOT of (executive) jobs, too. She's a machine, I don't think she'll ever retire. She doesn't experience feelings like we do, and she doesn't communicate like we do, but she's definitely sentient and aware.
She's also our Inner World. She used to be Hogwarts when we were little, now she's a TARDIS (she doesn't really look anything like the movies/series).
Wow, so awesome. We have two specific memory holders in our system, one is a written version which records everything in written form in the headspace on the walls of her room, the other records everything visually, with photography and painting/drawing. I always thought they were gatekeepers, but actually memory holders is a person category/job name!

I’m new to your channel and I enjoy your videos very much . I was diagnosed a year ago but I no longer go to therapy since my therapist left. I have 29 that I know of and it’s overwhelming. Bea and Phoenix might be twins. I know they've both been around since I was a kid, but idk when exactly they formed as I don't remember most of my childhood. But Bea is a persecutor and Phoenix is our emotional protector.
Your memory keeper seems a lot less chaotic than ours… both our alters with gatekeeper style powers have the ability to yoink memories and have access to all of the main systems memories, but Puck can just take them from his brain and share it straight into ours if he wants…
We've just recently realized that our gatekeeper and memory holder is a non human fictive from the TV show Supernatural. He never comes out into the body really he has showed up once in a therapy session. We have a lot of fictives partly due to the fact that fandom is and always will be a very big coping mechanism and a huge part of our life in general. OML when we get into a show or really anything (music, CZcamsrs, etc.) it becomes such a big part of our life. We have had many fictive alters come and go (some integrated while others just sort of went into the galaxy and became a star in our inner world). We also have a few factives most of these are Korean Idols or musicians. It was very cool and interesting to watch this for sure! That ending was hilarious, party dreams every night I can't imagine.

So I have a non-human alter who’s basically your Jacob/Jonathan in one, and he has a sort of apprentice alter; Ryan (human) who does little jobs and runs errands and things things since the non-human alter can’t go everywhere. I only recently had a dream (both of them can control dreams) about how Ryan became my non-human alter’s kind of apprentice. They’ve also given me dreams about the inner-world, alters, and memories.

I always find your videos really interesting and informative, I think it's really good to learn about things like DID from the perspectives of those who have it, before finding your channel I knew a bit but not a whole lot about DID but I feel I'm learning a lot!

I had a bad February this year. I depersonalized and lost speech and my appetite and had major anxiety ( this has happened a few times over the years and always takes me by surprise) I’m feeling better now though. My dreamworld is extremely vivid and Lucid and there are places where I have a bunch of friends I hang out with and book stalls and sci fi conventions.

Oohhh, that's a tricky question. I'm going to say yes since the host doesn't necessarily have to be the "core". By core, of course, I mean the part that spent the most time in the outside world. DID is always full of surprises so I imagine that there are systems with a host who is also a twin alter! -Kit

I am not able to get tested for DID or DDNOS, but when I am able to, I will. I never realized that they were different people, I've always seen them as moods, but it's not the same... so I've been seen as moody instead of realizing I was switching. In therapy my social alters come out and when asked to go into trauma I've always said, "it takes to long to go there, and once we get her out, therapy is over and you don't have to calm her down later...you don't have to deal with shutting everything back down." I didn't realize I was describing DDNOS.
Daniel: OH! We have never heard the term Twin Alters. We have two littles who seem to fit that description. As for the emotionless alter, ours is not a robot nor are they an inanimate object. They exhibit the traits of Alexithemia. Which allows them to function in an enturely logical and calm way when we need.
Congrats on the 1.1k! you're doing great! I'm a protector in our system, and consider myself almost a co-host because of all I do here. Things have changed a lot since I was created. I resonated a lot with the gatekeeper position that you were talking about, as I tend to run things inside as well as out here. It was interesting to find out that that's a role of it's own often, especially inside. Now I'm wondering if I can put one of our insiders on gatekeeping and maybe cut a little bit of my responsibility!

I have some twin alters 😳 Didn't know it was a thing 😳 [I'm new in knowing it - my system have been amazing doing their job, in March I "was born" tho, and our last host are dormant or at least not really reachable... It's her name on this account.. I was created to call out system out (make each other known to each other), we are finally a safe and good place in our life. It's a bitter sweet experience. But this video have really helped - thank you entropy system!!!)

I'm curious if you always had this level of awareness of your system or did you gradually become more aware? When you became more aware did things get better for you or worse?
The vengful b*** comment made me laugh harder that ive ever laughed in years it feels, i am 21 and I'm serious wgen i say, i laughed so hard i nearly shed tears of joy. I love you guys and appreciate your existence so so so much, i feel like whatever I'm going through mentally is very similar, if not the same diagnosis. Idk ill spare you my story for now, but know I'm very greatful to feel not so alone with my experience, and very greatful for how sweet you guys are, and honestly this is so helpful all of your videos. I will never self diagnose, but i hope what I'm finding will help my therapist find out what different "traits" i have, so that we know what to do to help me slowly become more of a functional person. 👌 i mean, im pretty awesome as it is, but i don't mind becoming even more so.
I love the way you make your videos, they make it so easy to understand. I'm so glad I came across this video in particular because it helped make sense of a lot of the things my son is talking about in counseling and with me. his counselor seems so blind as to what he's talking about. I am trying to get him seen by a specialist but I just found out he may have DID so I told his doctor. now he sees this counselor who has no idea what's she's doing I think. and she has to be the one to refer him to a specialist.
My alter Sam acts as a translator for littles and for those that don't know how to communicate due to being new to the outside world.
Our system doesn’t actually have a gatekeeper or a memory holder....I guess we just don’t need either! We have lots of other jobs though! Most of the alters are either protectors or caregivers! Anyways, great video Kit! Very informative!

Do you think that a recurring, lucid dream could be an alter trying to communicate? I have never been diagnosed with DID, and don't expect to be necessarily, but have been through some significant traumas in my childhood & feel like I'm experiencing things through a looking glass sometimes. I often have recurring dreams (& have since childhood) over and over that make NO sense to my waking life (but I know I'm in the same setting, sometimes for different reasons & the characters remember me from dream to dream which is weird). The dreams are so vivid, and I have had sleep paralysis several times a week for the last couple of years. I'm not looking to have DID...I'm 46 & its the last thing I want.

I have a separate personality, called laia. I wouldn't call them an alter as it's a new development and not diagnosed or anything.
But they're much more present when in a conflicting situation, though it kinda freaks me out how cynical they are.
When laia was stronger before, we were browsing psych tests just for fun and she took the P-dap I think it's called? Basically the psychopath checklist.

All right so I have a little to unpack here. For years I have had these waking nightmares. They tend to some on when I am in especially high pain or very uncomfortable (I have chronic pain from health problems) and put the body into fight or flight. Adrenaline comes on, makes the pain better, and once the adrenaline wears off too much I get in one of these nightmares again to get a flush of adrenaline. These dreams are very structured and often follow a story line. I have a lot of control over the story line, but I feel like I keep getting dragged or sucked into specific ones. I think a specific one or two of my alters could be helping to create them. Is there a name for that kind of alter role?

Are any alters temporary? A lot of media has the trope of alters disappearing at some point but I have no idea if that exists
Some system's goals is intergration, so making all the alters kiiind of fuse into one personality, one identity. Of course it will always look a little different comparing to someone who doesn't have DID. Sometimes integration just happens, Entropy made a video about Mistletoe integrating. It was her choice to do so, she's no longer an alter on her own, she cannot switch and front anymore. Some systems choose to co-operate and live their life like that, it's as valid as integration. So yes, alters can maybe not disappear, but become a part of a single, shared personality :)
Hi Kit, I have recently discovered I have DID and in that found an alter who was an ex-host (she used to host when we were a teenager but adult stresses caused her to retreat deep into the head space) do you know of any other systems with alters like this or do they usually intergrate?

So im still trying to figure out if i have DID/OSDD1B or not, and these videos are so extremely helpful! I know that significant others and super close friends have mentioned two different alters, one who is a persecutor to a T and then another who is kind of a mix of memory keeper/gate keeper/protector. He claims to be a computer who runs programs and keep files like computer coding which i find super interesting! Though i do have a question, is it possible/normal for the host to only really be able to see the inner world through dreams? (Once again i appreciate what you do here by giving an honest and unfiltered view into what DID really is without the stigma and romanticization ♡)

I had a dream where I was in a familiar dream house with a friend who I spent the whole dream with. Then near the end he let me know that we are the same. I looked at my mouth out of body and saw that whenever he spoke, my mouth was moving. Yet he had independent thought and I didn't know what he was going to say. This opened a barrel of monkeys in my head😅.
Earlier today I asked what his name is because we are apparantly co conscience, and he immediately said "Tom". I told myself "You just made that up" then he snapped back "No. My name is Tom. I'm sure of this."
Then I got visions of what he looked like when he described himself, and he was the guy from the dream.

For Example, when I searched in Libraries for Books about DID, I found most of the Time nothing about it, or only Books, that are more like Fiction or Tales for Children... And over a certain Timespan, in a specific Library, I saw the Number of Books about DID droppin from a few Books to zero Books.. I do not know why this is, but is this similar in other Countries?
Unfortunately this seems to be prevalent world wide. Despite the fact that it's been in the DSM for over a decade there are still people who think it's fake. It can be extremely difficult for people with DID to get proper treatment because of this. Hopefully research of the disorder will improve and this stigma will get wiped away soon. -Wyn
Is it possible for a system to have only 1 alter able to front and everyone else is only inside?
I don’t think so. The main diagnostic criteria is having at least two fully formed identities and dissociative amnesia. If the alters never ever came out there would be no amnesia involved in their presence, so I would assume that would fall under OSDD-1b. My boyfriend of a year and a half and I actually both live with D.I.D. And your channel is very informative because where we are, many people (even professionals) don't believe D.I.D is real. They think it's all psychosis or schizophrenia. So as far as seeing D.I.D normalized and learning more about it through videos, we LOVE your videos!!! I do have a question. Do you think it's possible for an alter to exist that none of the other alters know about? Not even the core or host? I've been having lapses in memory a lot lately and I'll find things written that none of us wrote or things done none of us remember.
I know that there are sometimes sexual alters. Do any of you take this job?
Haley Quinn I also wanna add into this! There was a video by multiplicity and me where they talked about their system's sexual alter and one point they were very keen on making is that "sexual" alters are not just genitals with legs, that they're their own personalities too and that to treat them as someone that only thinks about sex all the time is insensitive and immature. Thank you for bringing up this question, I've wondered it as well but didn't have the guts to ask for fear of looking like a perv >.>

So I just found out my friend Kristina has DID and she says she is a boy (she also refers to herself as she most of the time though). I myself is transgender and so my question is can someone with DID be trans or is it another headmate?
A person with DID can absolutely be trans, though it may be a male altar like you said. I encourage you to ask your friend about it :)
There are three transitioned systems I know of on youtube, the 'Alexandrite System', and 'Acrylic and Aether'.
In our particular (non-transitioned) experience, all of us are either cis or agender in the headspace, but we're something like 6 cis guys and 2 cis girls who front regularly in a female body (which looks nothing like our own, even in the girls' cases). Some of us guys use female pronouns outside just to go with the flow, some of us feel uncomfortable doing so and ask others to use male pronouns with us (or use male language, since our mother language is gendered unlike english), sometimes even I'll slip and use male language accidentaly even though I'm usually fine using female pronouns.
Since we're not out as having DID, we just tell people we're gender fluid (we're technically not, I'm pretty sure one of the systems we mentioned have actual genderfluid alters).
I'm aware it could be offensive to real genderfluid people, but just saying we're trans and changing the presenting gender would make the girls very uncomfortable (as well as a few guys who cannot stand doctors and outerbody modification), so it's not an option for us.
So, things can get very complicated.

They definitely can. The idea of "alter types" is to offer people who don't have DID a rough understanding of how we work together. It doesn't define us or restrict who we are, though, and one alter may have multiple different "types" assigned to him or her. -Wyn

Gina DellaSalla no worries, you'll get more familiar with the alters the longer you watch. I was starting to learn System K's alters but there are just too many in that system (and that's not even on the bigger end of the spectrum)!

write name here, I think q different comment asked this and either Wyn or Kit replied, saying essentially, DEFINITELY. And that the "roles" don't define an alter's abilities and they don't restrict any of them either. Another comment on this video was from a gatekeeper/memory holder themselves, saying they perform so many functions within the system that they actually see themselves as a sort of co-host! So yes, alter jobs and roles are not restrictive and one alter can take on more than one "role," the functions that these alters serve tend to be classified into jobs/roles to help those of us without DID better understand the main things that these alters do :)
