Alex is the most conservative, judgmental , closed minded interviewer I've ever witnessed. Micheal is a knowledgeable investigative journalist tackling the human condition and how to cope with it.

This interviewer is absolutely embarrassing. She's clearly too enamored with the sound of her own voice and her opinions to ask pertinent, succinct questions. Would rather have heard Pollan speak uninterrupted for an hour and a half.

The interviewer is acting like a jerk, but Michael Pollan is on point, as usual.

    Fantastic. Thanks, Michael.

Michael was almost enough to counterbalance the arrogant, condescending, smug tone of the interviewer. This is the only time I have had trouble listening to Pollan on this subject and it was not his fault. Her entire demeanor was nails on a chalkboard.

Great job Michael, despite the awkward poor questioning

Food and psychedelics are an interesting topic, the the best effect on psychedelics eat a whole plant food diet days in advance, plenty of it raw and full of fiber, after a week carefully dose up on you favorite psychedelic - but it is essential to fast for minimum of 12 hours, 18 or even 24 hours preferred, this helps a person get the most out of it and the whole plant food and fiber in your pre-fast diet maximizes the serotonin in your system naturally.

That question about the person's brother not losing his ego after a history of phycedelics. I expected him to talk about intent, was surprised he didn't.

Is it possible Alix's ego, unbeknownst to Alix, is threatened by Michael's news of its potential dissolution?
I sat through this interview in considerable agony and anxiety, as I realized MY ego kept punching up.
There are blindsided interruptions and warrantless clarifications. Perhaps a misguided notion of what a good interview looks like underpinning them all. The interviewee, left alone to his or her expertise and devices, should do fine alone, but Alix doesn't seem to think so.
Combine this with her apparent inability to start or END a coherent and intelligent question, we have this poor example of a conversation.
I can only imagine how Michael felt sitting there. There are points where he seems to be doing mental gymnastics to remain cordial and sympathetic to his needy and ungenerous interlocutor. (Lest we forget: one can't exactly lose his cool in front of the crowd, promoting a book called "How to Change Your Mind," replete with personal anecdotes of ego transcendence in the direction of transpersonal harmony.)
Michael: "Don't you wanna hear the ones she's not reading?"
    Me: Yup, that's me. Guilty.
The undying subtext of this challenging sit-through: apparently, Alix could use a little helping of LSD. SORRY.

She interrupted him upon the conclusion of the best story of the interview without even a coherent intelligible point to add to the conversation. She embodies the subtle prohibitionist attitude that typifies someone who has never had a psychedelic experience or had a set bias.

Her gestures are overdone, her voice too authoritative and nothing natural. Not so good an interview. There are many arrogant interviewers out there but learn to act with a little humbleness perhaps she needs acting lessons. Some people go through life in this conundrum quite happily, without ever knowing their irritating persona. take a look at many a fat-rich politician.
