  • Hey Everyone! In this video, I faceted a D20 from a piece of beautiful Rose Quartz! This one was a real pleasure to work with and the final result is just stunning. I love the soft pink hue and the way it catches the light. Let me know what you think in the comments!

    I like that you include a bit of the geography behind the stone. I was sad as Hedron did that less and less. I may be alone in this, but I'd just about die if I could get like a full geography/geology lesson during the making of. For me, it's not just about watching the process of faceting the die, but learning about what makes it unique. Every stone tells a story, and I want that story.

      Thanks so much! Geology is actually one of my weaker areas of knowledge, so it's incredibly fun to get to research each stone that I cut and learn about them! I just love having something where I get to continue to learn every day. 😊

    Rose quartz is one of my favorites

      Me too! Plus, quartz is super durable so it makes for great dice! 😊

    I appreciate you showing the transfer process where you retain the indexing of the stone during the process (angled parts at the ends of the dop sticks). I had been wondering how that was retained, and now I know! Those angles have to be precisely kept between sides of faceting. This is more than seeing the final product, but seeing the process to get there. "Journey before destination." :)

      Absolutely! The transfer jig is definitely an essential piece of equipment. Without it, it would be nearly impossible to line the second half of the stone up properly. So many small little steps that all together add up to something beautiful! Journey before destination! 😁

    The gold has this turn out better than I thought. What an exquisite piece, just beautiful.

    I love watching these, but I find that I have to mute it anytime you're doing rougher grinds. I get chills and goosebumps every time I hear the nails on chalkboard sounds. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Beautiful piece. Out of curiosity, could you paint the numbers on after you sandblasted but before you removed the stencils? Just thought it could make clean up easier. Totally understand though if that doesn't work.

      Thank you so much! Honestly, I never considered that! The cleanup isn't too bad with alcohol & swabs, but if it speeds up the process, it's definitely worth a shot. I'll have to give it a try and see how it works out. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Would fire agate be possible? That is my favourite stone.

      Oooo that's a great suggestion! I'll reach out to my vendor and see if I can source some and get it added to my to-cut list! Thank you! 😊

    Amazing work!
    I want to make my own labrodite set but i just looked up how much that Ultra tec is 😅

      @SageAndNettle  Před měsícem +1

      Thank you!! I have a few pieces of labradorite ready to be cut into dice, maybe I'll start on one of those next! 😊 My Ultra-Tec machine is definitely on the higher end, but there are also a bunch of cheaper machines out there. There's also a pretty nice market for used machines as well, though they can still be pretty expensive.

      @SageAndNettle ooo I'd love to see you do a labradorite one!!
      Yeah I'm looking at half that budget lol, going on the search 😂

      Have to come from wealth to do this hobby haha

    Are you just eyeballing the angles???

    • @SageAndNettle
      @SageAndNettle  Před měsícem

      I wish I was that good, haha! The angle of each cut is set on the blue read-out, then locked in place with an angle stop. Then you can rotate the stone by spinning the index wheel, which you can see as a large black gear-like disk towards the top of the quill (The part that holds the dop/stone). By using these two, you can set the angle, then cut it at different rotations. There's still a lot that has to be eyeballed and felt out to make sure everything lines up perfectly, but those two aspects get you pretty close to the final cuts.
