A Swedish tourist coming to Hawaii exclaimed, "I am so happy to be in Havaii". A Hawaiian next to her said, "Thank you for pronouncing Hawaii properly". She replied, "you velcome".

Ha-leh-ee-vah is the correct pronunciation of Haleiwa. When the letter “W” is place in between two vowels it pronounces letter “V” just so you know. :)

I was born and raised on Oahu and just moved away in November. I miss my POI and POKE 😥 Tanioka’s is awesome, but for great poke you should try Ahi & Vegetable (locations in Kalihi, Ala Moana Shopping Center, and Downtown Honolulu) and Aloha Poke Shoppe (Downtown Honolulu). Chun Wah Kam, Island Manapua Factory, Royal Kitchen, and Char Hung Sut are also great for dim sum. 👍🏻 Wish the weather was better while you were there! Oh, and Mitch’s by the airport for AWESOME SUSHI!!

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I should go out and explore my home more often. I see all these great places to eat on other people's CZcams channels and I never go. I appreciate the suggestions in the comments, too. Poi is great for kids, btw because it's easy to digest. Sorry about the weather. That was a crazy week. If you love sushi, try Sasabune. It's omakase (leave choices to the chef). It's not very kid friendly, and expensive, but you won't find better sushi. I'm loving the spicy Thai broth at Hot Pot Heaven in Kapolei. Banzai sushi in Haleiwa has amazing hamachikama. Piggy Smalls in Ward has good Vietnamese fusion cuisine. Across the street at South Shore market is Scratch Kitchen & Meatery. Kilani bakery in Wahiawa for brownies and chantilly cake. Liliha bakery for local grinds, coco puffs, and poi mochi donuts that look like teething rings but are oh, so yummy!

I went to Hawaii in 2014 ish? There used to be a International Market on Waikiki. I was just a simple outdoor foodcourt, but man was the food delicious!!! There was a local seafood stall, Korean place, Chinese, Japanese...But had a Hawaiian twist to all of them. Food was affordable too! I went back a few years later, and unfortunately they've tore down the market. They were building some fancy store to replace it. Also, that loco moco looks INCREDIBLE! I'll have to try it some day.

everyone talks about tanioka's but they are overpriced and not as good places like foodland or even times supermarket, glad that she called out the service at koko head cafe, so many places here in hawaii the service and quality of food has gone down , but it is sometimes understandable because Hawaii is a good place to visit but an expensive place to live, BTW to all those planning to visit, please lock your doors and don't leave any valuables out in the open in your cars, we want you to enjoy your visit and not be a victim of the few bad apples out here, not trying to scare you, just being honest.

    • @JohannGambolputty22

Papa Poi by “a few bad apples” it’s all the homeless crackhead haole scum plaguing the islands. Almost got in a fight 2 days ago and was interview on KHON at how bad the rotting garbage at Diamond Head beach park has gotten. Forget even going to the Waianae side. This state is in trouble. This scum takes over the Kalākaua pavilions on the beach and are passed out drunk everywhere....so those bad apples.

Oddly enough my sister and I loved thier chicken wings the most. There was a spot we went to that had garlic lobster too: it was just split down the middle and COVERED with a butter sauce that had huge chunks of garlic in it. There was also a vegan spot we tried that was phenomenal: matcha teas & lentil bowls ❤️

Try dipping the lomi salmon in the poi; for some reason, it takes away much of the sourness (maybe its the tomatoes). Also, the 'easy way out' of the poi sourness is to add sugar. As a kid I couldn't eat it without sugar. The difference is like a cacao bar with or without any sweetener.

I live in Hawaii, for the past 50 years. Haleiwa is a tourist trap place. Locals hardly go eat in those restaurants, they go for surf..the fruit stands are nice....Huli huli chicken is always good no matter where you can get it. Valley of the temples....graveyard...another tourist trap in Waiahole...get better places in town. When it rains the water is warm. Another tourist trap coffee house. Good choice in Kaimuki....they don’t cater to tourists, locals don’t mind..toilet bowls next to Sandy Beach. Hula is beautiful, is it not? The mayor of Honolulu destroyed the International market place. Taniokas is good but very expensive. There are many other better places in Kalihi. Check out Mit Su Kin Okazu in Kalihi on North King Street....Alicia’s market in Kalihi on Mokauea Street for Hawaiian food. Richie’s for boneless breaded chicken with gravy plate lunch also on King Street. Libby’s for manapua, pork hash, and many other goodies on Kalihi Street. Rays Cafe, a little hole in the wall place that has fantastic food...Teri steak plate...on Saturdays ham hocks....broke da mouth on North King Street...notice I mentioned many places in Kalihi....all local favorites. Your video was a nice tourist video with a couple of local places....not bad..

@Silvia Hoard the beds in all hotels feel the same to me, but you can request extra blankets, pillows, etc. I stayed at the Disney Aulani Resort in Oahu. That resort has the best hotel food. Also, there is a plaza across from there with sushi, monkey pod, coffee shop and other places.

my wife and I love Juliez in Kapolei (filipino food). Our go to is 'Lechon Kawali' and the banana lumpia is really good.... and right next to Juliez is Enfuego, a local place that has upscale plate-lunches. Try the 'spicy garlic chicken'. can't go wrong with pretty much anything there...
