1997 Dodge Dakota V6 Magnum Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler Comparison

  • I replaced the stock muffler on my 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT (3.9L V6 Magnum engine) with a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler. The old muffler was getting some holes in it, so I decided to replace it. The old tail pipe was rusted to the muffler, so we replaced the whole thing. I was expecting a slight sound improvement but this completely blew me away! This has a louder and better sound than my brother's 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 (5.3L V8), and sounds like a louder version of my dad's 2010 Ford F150 (5.4L V8).

    sounds real nice, ive got a 3.9 Dakota and i was starting to think there was no aftermarket exhaust that sounded good for 3.9 dakotas until i saw this video. finally found something to make my truck sound good :)

    The sound really makes a huge difference. The more I've driven the truck the more I love it!

    I was the same way. I only replaced my muffler because my old one was in rough shape. I was amazed by how good it sounds. The best part is that it is a super simple installation job, and pretty cheap too.

    I just seen this video, I am installing a super 40 on mine next week, i already have the catalytic converter, flow master, and most of what i need, my tail pipe should be here tomorrow, same kind of truck and everything, Hope it sounds as good as yours does, it sound really good to be a single exhaust. good job

      +James Mollohan How'd it turn out? Every time I drive my truck, I'm still super impressed by the sound. Really makes a dual exhaust system seem not worth it on these trucks. I don't know that you could get a much better sound, and it's way cheaper.

    Did you leave the resonator on right before the tail pipe? Or did you take that off? I’m thinking about taking mine off of my 2011 Dakota.

    Where did you get your flowmaster muffler at and does it have the metal rod that goes into the hangers the ones I’m seeing don’t have the metal rod or did you have to strap it in somehow

    Hello, did you just change the muffler ? Or did some other mod? I just want to change the muffler in my case and I’d like to know, would be happy to get that sound if it only meant changing the muffler

    • @RkadeKicks
      @RkadeKicks  Před 5 lety

      I also replaced the tailpipe out of the muffler, but that was with a stock factory replacement so it shouldn’t have impacted sound at all. You should be good to just swap the muffler!

    ya im needing a new muffler. my stock is almost as load as your flowmaster muffler. but it doesn't sound as refined ,don't get me wrong it sounds real nice for being stock. also sounds better than my friends Dakota which is stock. but i really should replace it until my muffler goes completely out then cops start pulling me over for it being to loud lol. plus i really want that sound

    hey just ordered the flowmaster super 40 for an 04 dodge ram..I will be able to use the stock tail pipe and if I wanted too also fit a flowmaster tip right? The muffler is 2.5" out and the tip is 3" inlet just surious if that tip would fit.. Thanks for the upload you changed my mind on spending thousands on a whole kit

    • @RkadeKicks
      @RkadeKicks  Před 10 lety

      I obviously haven't seen your truck, but that should work just fine with your stock tailpipe. Also, 3" tips are made to work with 2.5" pipes so that will work well. Good luck with your project. It's a good choice.

    I have a 2001 dodge ram v6 I've been wanting to add a deeper and better sounding muffler to, alot of people online really seem to down and dog people putting ANY muffler on a v6 truck because it'll sound "ricer" like a honda civic fart-can for example....is this really true? I used to have a v6 mustang dual exhaust and honestly thought it sounded good...my stock exhaust on my truck is really quiet and underwhelming like your stock was in this vid...if just a single exhaust flowmaster sounds this decent and is so cheap I don't think a dual exhaust is worth the money either....thx for any help

    • @RkadeKicks
      @RkadeKicks  Před 7 lety +1

      I still love the sound of this truck after having the new muffler on for a few years. Other people will always find a way to getcha down about something, but this was a quick and easy mod that was totally worth it for me. As far as single vs dual exhaust, you probably won't get a ton of benefit from adding a dual setup, but I didn't try so I can't say for sure

      I put the flowmaster 50 series on (wanted a quieter one) and it does sound "ricer" arg. Not terrible tho.
