Meet the Night Runners - BBC Africa Eye documentary

- čas přidán 6. 05. 2019
- The people of rural Kenya have spoken of the night runners for generations. They’re said to be villagers possessed by a demonic spirit which compels them to scare and terrorise their neighbours at night.
But no one really knows who the night runners are or what motivates them. For BBC Africa Eye, reporter Tom Odula investigates the enigma of the night runners, shining fresh light on the reality behind the myths, and revealing exclusive footage of night runners in action. Please be aware that there are disturbing images in this piece.

As a person who has been visited by night runners.
I am delighted to learn that they too have their tribulations.
When I saw the title, I thought it was a subtle way of saying prostitution.
So did I!!! Going through such behaviour just to scare people? Wtf?
Cause you're sick in the head. Would of never thought that. I thought it was about poaching animals at night or pochers getting shot at night for poching!

Why do I love this? It made me all tingly inside. Great documentary.
Saying that they started running after doing a ritual? In any case, whether it is demonic activity or psychological, these night runners need Jesus. Pray for them
But Jesus is also a night runner. LOL
@Kamatari Honjo you're just dreaming.
Or maybe Jesus isn't real?
There's proof right infront of your eyes that African spiritual like things are real
There are no demons involved here, just inappropriate behaviour.
Lolol
Dont demons make people act differently.
Actually demons are involved. It is a spell placed on them through heredity or being married into it. The woman possesses the evil eye And practices witchcraft. They can't be called out on it because it is believed that anyone who calls it out will be affected negatively. Basically a mischievous, trickster demon.
Not sure what about the tin used to trap them into it? After that I think it's an addiction. They get a turn on outta doing it.
Grace is grunting like a animal. There is a demon disturbing people at night. Not sure why they went on camera.
Keep being a Night runner until one day you'd really have to run for your life at NIGHT.
This night running sounds like they are possessed by low ranking demons 😭😂

I will never forget what happened to me 6 years back when I went to take my village girl at night, at around 11pm on a field near a river a night runner passed between us like a wind twice. My girl really urinated on her clothes, she was shaking, she became dumb and deaf, and started talking a day after. These people have demonic powers.
THere was not even space btw us but he managed to pass btw us, as from that day my girl never wanted me to bring her home at night.

The running President need a psychiatrist-
When we were kids, these were the people who made me have nightmares. We always knew some people who were said to have the habit. I don't know how many nights I shook in my bed. We had a lot of forests then. These days in my village nobody even talks about them anymore. It seems the generation went. And one of the tools that led to the collapse of the whole thing; was a torch.

😂 I am sorry you went through this. People who are commenting that this is not a big deal just because they are getting a view from the night runner’s perspective have never been on the side of the terrorized families. What i can say, the community is so accommodative and patient, i cant withstand such nonsense on my house. Any how, kudos to the reporter, he survived being eaten alive!!
From the stories I used to hear about night runners:
~They run at neck breaking speed, I can see it's also leg breaking😀😀
~They carry burning pots in their heads
~You will spot them (with their burning pots) running across the other ridge and no fence or any obstacle can block them
~They ride dogs, cats and other animals
~You have to eat cold food and wear clothes inside out if you want to catch them
~Their wives perform rituals which involves cooking stones so their husbands can't be caught out there
~Aside from selling fear, they do their things so nobody in the society get wealthier
This should be on the COMEDY segment.
I have laughed in most of the scenes.
You also laughed at the guy who had burns from hot water & was urging that couple to rethink their decisions

BBC Africa does not portray Africa in a negative but brings out what really needs to be known to the world, you can't always portray Africa positively becuase we all know there are many things wrong, which the world an mostly other AFRICANS need to know/learn about. I personally think BBC Africa is doing the job not many other news companies are willing to do, actually showing what is going in Africa.
@Star...same thought, same thought. I commend these but they can put out positivity in equal measure. I guess that's what President Kagame is trying to put across that "BBC should respect Africa."
Nonetheless, creating awareness about certain issues is the rationale here, right?
@@wendyswintona.juma.4949 Indeed
I initially made an insensitive comment without fully watching the documentary. After watching I can see why this is both a nuisance to neighbors and a burden on those practicing it. The testament of the medical doctor sheds more light. I hope BBC will investigate this more to solve this problem. Some cultures are best left in the archives especially when they are both addictive and a threat to life.
