In this video, you're going to learn:
- The tools and products I use
- My process on cleaning dirty cars
- See how it is to work at a customers' location
- And much more...

How to wash and wax car
âą Wash and Wax on Car Th...
You motivated me to start my detailing business! Now I'm getting so many customers! Only my 3rd month in đđ
Netnert Yes! Same here. I watched oscar for months before starting my own business! I'm only two months in, I'm mobile and work from home and I just got my ad on the radio!
WOOOHOOOOO!!!
Do you need a license to do car cleaning?
thats dope
yea its nothing like that first jump of faith
For people who donât have time or simply donât feel like doing it themselves, $220 is reasonable, and 90% of the time will return for the same service. I live in Ca and most customers who get services are well off and would rather make more money with their time than wash their filthy cars. Broke people always complain about price đ
Haha- yep!
Rich people are stupid with cars poor people are more wiser. A self-carwash or drive thru and 10$ would give the same results he did and all they would have to do is wax it.....
Pie 4life but realistically what are the chances that the average person would wanna sit there and wax their entire car ..
Pie 4life nope . They would have to have all the tools and material so more like $60 plus for quality material and tools
well here in Dallas,TX they think is expensive charging $90 for a complete interior. or $45 handwash a pick up truck. or $120 wash & tires + complete interior.
I like the fact that you went beyond what was requested - exterior wash and wax, and clean the interior windows as well. Well done! The car looks gorgeous.
Thanks for the kind words!
I just started doing detailing part time & youâre videos have helped a lot thanks for the videos keep up the good work đđŒ
Glad you're finding them useful Leo!
Oscar, Thank you for the videos. I used to detail professionally years ago but went back to working for the "man". After watching your videos I realize i have not been happy since I quit detailing. I plan on starting my business back up and you have provided alot of information that helps alot of people start their business or even grow what they already have.
Wow- thanks for the kind words Doug! Best of luck to your journey!
You never know what you had till it's gone
Totally understand, poor management is definitely the worst for mental health. I used to work for a company, same schedule, same ol shiz, stable money. Running your own business is hard and uncertain sometimes, but not so much on your mental health, it only makes you stronger.
9 dirty cars disliked this video
Ahahaha
9 dirty car owners! Haha
They all 'riding dirty'..! Lol
Love the channel man. Iâm really thinking of starting a detailing business and you keep motivating me. But I started laughing when you said your only 5â5. Cuz thatâs me too haha
Ahah- nice
I would love a video on managing customer expectations like you mentioned! This is that hardest thing I deal with!
Iâm 6â3â and I still think Iâd need a ladder for that car!
Haha- true! Although you can probably get away with a smaller ladder lol
Use a ladder no point in making life difficult and struggling
I have to use a small ladder/step stool to check the engine and all fluids on my 03 Navigator.
I stand on top of a wheel when I hit those big roofs
You do lolol i work at a benz dealership and man we need a step stool for everything.
Awesome video it's super relaxing watching you detail cars lol
Haha, thanks for watching Michael!
Lmao the ending. đ we need more full exterior cleaning videos. Not the waterless rinse ones but ones like this.
Great video, amazing work and the best part was the driving away scene. Then you ran back. Laughed my butt off. Nice O!
Haha- glad you liked!
Thanks Oscar. Every time I watch your videos I am always learning something new. I have received so far three steps of how to successful in auto detailing through email from you and itâs great.I just recently did my first paying job and felt great but more importantly I enjoyed myself doing it. I am retired and looking to add money to my pension and I think this will be it. I like the fact that you are not pushing a product because you are being paid. And if you do that in the future , then good for you and make that money. Thank you and god bless.
Thanks so much for the kind words Joe! Glad I can help out :)
Hahaha....
Hilarious at the end...u posted up the camera to see 'Thee Drive off shot'....:)
Dedication Oscar....u got it in spades!
Thank u for another entertaining video!
When the depression and anxiety kicks in, and i need to calm down, I watch your videos. Thanks!
Glad I can help :)
Hey @BoxerMom,. hope things have got better, shoot me a message if you want, am a good listener
Omg same its 4 am and i cant sleep again and here i am lol
your videos are awesome man! just started my business & your tactics are great ! keep inspiring man
Good to hear :)
The step thing is called a running board
Dang, I always forget.. lmao.. Good looking out!
Zach Diaz *side step
Luke Hall *running board
MILINICH'S AUTO DETAIL in aus it is
Detail Groove friendly FYI the glass window on Lincoln navigator and Ford expedition also opens there's a release button near the license plate lights a lot of dirt accumulates there
Nice video man! I like how you have the "no bullshit" method. Straight to the point, doing the best without thousand dollar tools. And of course, you could, but let's be honest, depending on were you live, most of your clients will not own million dollar cars and don't really care about scratches the "perfect finish and smell and everything else". Great real world view. Keep it up.
Haha, thanks Bruno! Trying to keep it real with everyone :)
Great video Oscar, Ty for taking the time to put together and share
You bet!
Great job! I just wrapped up detailing my 03 Lincoln Navigator. I had not cleaned it in a few weeks and I just got it back from getting the transmission rebuilt. I spent 2+ hours last night just washing and cleaning the exterior. Using my SunJoe SPX 3000 power washer really helped. I used Meguires Quik Wax this morning to finish up the exterior. And yeah, I got the ladder out to get the roof cleaned up pretty good.
Just spent the last couple hours cleaning and vacuuming the interior. I really got to go back and do a detailed clay bar and wax. Itâs driving very good and looking good too now.
I have other cars that are so much easier and quicker to do a full detail. These large SUVâs take 2-3 times longer. So, itâs my least favorite to detail.
Anyways,
Great video and God bless!
Haha- completely understand Alex. Bigger vehicles always require so much more work
I think you did a great job on the "land yacht"! :) You are very detail oriented and methodical when you do your work; that is so awesome! I can't wait for the next video! :)
Thanks for watching Jordan!
Detail Groove YW :)
business is boomin thanks oscar. I thought things would so down in the winter but Jan. is shaping up to be my best month yet!
WOOHOO!
Another fantastic video Oscar. Love this type of video. I pick up at least one tip or new technique from your vids đđđ
Glad to hear Patrick! What did you pick up on this one?
Thank you for all of the videos Oscar!!! I am a fan of the ONR rinseless wash myself 95% of the time.
Also, I dont think anyone commented on it, they are called running boards. You the man big O.. nice work
Haha- thanks Bryan!
This video was awesome! Subscribed.
Thank you for not forgetting the roof!! đ.
@Detail Groove
Good in depth Video , thanks for making it.
Sure thing!
I love how you keep it simple n don't try to be extra. People have been cleaning their cars just fine before all these extra over priced items & techniques some CZcamsrs use n make it seem like it's the only way we should clean a car. Keep up the good work man, loving the videos!
Thanks for the kind words Imani
I always do interior glass and door jambs with exterior wash. Interior only I do outside glass too. Thoughts? Nice job on that beast!
It's your business Rich! Personally, I do not do that.
people don't know the difference between wash and detail
Great instructional video my brother.
Thanks a lot for watching!
Whoever says that price is too high, they don't know the amount of labor and time that goes into the process. The claying process itself takes a lot of time. For the size of that vehicle that's a very solid price. I'm curious, is it a mobile detailing thing or something but why no rinse before wash?
Yep! And just because I know the pressure from the hose is going to knock very little dirt off the vehicle. So I skip that step and go straight to washing
Sushi he didn't clay it?
You got me thinking about starting a car wash business
doooo it
14:40 look at the INSANE technique, keep up the vids bro
LMAAOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's hilarious. Good eye
Love.your videos. I'm.gonna look into getting that clay mitt!!! Awesome job you killed it!!!
Cyr Parlapiano nano skin medium clay disk is faster if you have a da
Thanks Cyr!
I have a 2013 chevy silverado with a 4 inch lift that ive had on for about 4 washes now. I am 5'8" and its to high and yes i bought one of those gorilla platforms. Cant wait to use it this weekend.
You'll enjoy it!
You do great work. I love your videos!
Thanks Brendan!
Good job bro, btw I love the Nano skin clay mitt.
It does a great job!
How long does it usually take you to wash a SUV like this? Because I have a Cadillac Escalade ESV and it usually takes me like 2 hours.
For just a wash? About 45ish minutes. This whole thing took 4ish hours (due to recording)
Love watching your videos
thanks!
Great video always !
Thanks Ezeke!
you're funny, I love how at the end you video'd you driving off then ran back for the camera, nice video, do you ever clean actual filthy muddy cars??? I drive down dirt roads all day for my job and my car is still oozing mud after its gone through the car wash( geez, It never stays clean or looks good as it drys there is always more mud somewhere )uuurrrg!!!
11:14 Damn, you good bro?
lmfao, that was my Yeti mic when I was doing the voiceover. That didn't happen on-site
I really like these wash and wax videos with your background voice explaining it, I really watching them!
I noticed that you use ONR on washing, clay lube and glass cleaner, can I ask you the dilution ratios for each application?
Thanks for watching! I use the instructed dilution ratio for the clay and literally use that for all other applications :)
enjoy*
Thanks for answering, I hope you keep doing these videos :)
Nice video and a great clean up. Mab from đŹđ§
thanks!
Just a heads up with the bit where you cleaned the grill, in my very short experience (only as an enthusiast) you wrap the microfibre around either end of one of my detailing brushes, so I don't need to use my fingers, and run it through that way. Of course the microfibre towel is soaked in whichever car soap I am using and/or APC. It works, again no or minimises the scratches :)
Great content as always. And on my end, always learning new techniques. Cheers!
Optimum no rinse for door jams, was that the clay lube ratio? Or actual rinsless wash ratio in the bottle. Cause there are multiple uses dependant on the mix ratio. Which you did not clerfiy
I keep things super simple; I use the clay lube for the door jambs
Great vid, such hard work! What DSLR are you filming with here?
Thanks Sean. It's a Canon 70D with 10-22mm lens
hola buen vĂdeo me han ayudado mucho tu forma de trabajar el lavado de autos es genial gracias
GREAT!
carloscesar calderonflores which language?
do you ever wash th entire car then proceed to claying then drying or do yo always work in sections? I know it can be an issue with soap and water drying up but does ONR have that same effect ?
Question how much do u charge for full detail inside amd out? On a really dirty interior? I charged $150.00 amd it took me more than 5 hours to do full vehicle.customer was very happy but i gelt like i should have charged more.
I don't do "full details" as that can mean a lot of different things to different people. Typical interior is $180 to $240 and a wash and wax can range between $160 to $280
In your opinion, whatâs your favorite/best tire dressing?
Megs Hyper Dressing. I used a few other and just liked Hyper Dressing
Ive been told just to use regular cover all. Is this a bad idea?
What is that?
What ratio do you use the hyper dressing at? I like the shine level you have.
I use 3m , it also works on black trim but you have to apply it every 2 weeks
Good stuff, can you please also include before and afters to see the difference you've made to the vehicle? Thanks so much!
Well, the before was the cleaning and I do have afters at the end :)
Nice job, Oscar! Looked like you had some nice cloud cover, but if you were doing this type of wash in the sun (hose and 2-bucket as opposed to rinseless) how would you avoid creating water spots?
Thanks Ben! If it was hot, I would;
1) Move faster on the wash, rinse, and dry process
2) Break it down by sections (wash, clay, and dry half of one side)
1. What do you personally use successfully to strip old wax off cars? I've heard so many arguments saying clay bars are the best vs dish soap vs Chemical Guys Clean Slate. So much information out there makes it confusing. 2. If you use ONR rinseless wash and wax, do you have to strip the wax before each time you resuse this product?
1) If the car is super dirty and it hasn't been deatiled, what are the odds if the car having any form of protection? However, I use CarPro Eraser.
2) No, just keep on using it
Finally man!!!
WOOOO!!!
What do you recommend to clean interior windows and exterior without leaving behind residue?
Turtle Wax chrome polish can work very well, used it on a rusted chrome surface and took everything off. Did take some elbow grease but it works quite well.
good tips!
Very important question hereâïž how do you get new customers? E.g do you use social media or the traditional way
Use this method: detailgroove.co/your-first-100
Let me know when you make your first $500 in 30 days
can you list what i would need to start a small detailing business? what products should i get?
Dumb question but do you charge the customer up front first or after you wash the car? Cool vids
I accept payment once the service is completed. However, many times the customer has to leave/won't be there so they'll pay in advance
Man I love these navigators I also own one in black
They're big to clean lol
Yeah true that, but not if your tall jk đ
Maybe you could show some normal speed as well just to see how long you scrub a door panel or other areas great videos and thank you very much for sharing all your knowledge I appreciate what you are doing
Thanks for watching EJ!
Good job! That thing is huge lol
Haha- thanks Niamh!
Detail Groove see my comment about.
Just what every guy wants to hear
I like your hair. It seems healthy and suits you well
haha- thanks Steph
Where did you get that awesome step bench? It looks much better than a step ladder, because you can cover more area on the top of the vehicle without moving it. I recently bought a Ford Transit Connect, and that step bench would be GREAT for getting to my roof...
Thanks. I'll look into this...
Hey oscar do you use tap water or distilled water when washing with ONR. I live in Arizona and have a huge issue with hard water so I tend to use distilled water.
I use tap water 99.5% of the time Cody
meguiars wheel brightener would give a nice shine to those rims. And you could also use it to give a grill that pop. (i'm sure you already know this)
Haha yeah, I've used it plenty of times :)
TjaĆŸmaK No Touch Tire Foam also works great ! it has an amazing shine. only thing i donât agree with is it leaves an oily look but it leaves an amazing shine
Great job on your video, the only thing I didnât get is when you cleaned the windows what spray did you use? Iâm having issues with streaks??
You can use invisible glass cleaner đ
how do you come up with your prices? starting up my mobile detail business. I will be servicing the high end area in Miami Beach
1) See what other detailers are charging in your area or 2) pick a number and go work. Then you'll see if it was worth it or not
What about using simple green for inside the car and outside. Will it work
I've never used it but it should
You have to be careful with simple green. It can stain some plastics and rubbers. Also take a lot of water to rinse off.
Hey Oscar, great video! Got a question, kind of a weird one. What do you do if you have to use the bathroom and you're out on a call? Is it okay to ask if you can use the client's bathroom? What if there's no readily accessible bathroom? Just something that I've been contemplating.
That's a huge problem for detailers. I am very cautious of how much water I drink. Before I leave to the job, I use the restroom to empty the tank and won't drink/eat anything until the first hour. Then I slowly drink as needed without really drinking excess water. Towards the end is when I start to drink more water since I'm 1 or 2 hours before leaving.
But yeah, you gotta manage it. I don't ask customers to use their restroom. It's not uncommon to not wait 7 hours to use the restroom
There's a CZcamsr who talks about this very thing with clients. His name is handyman or something. He has a tiny portable toilet in his closed trailer that he can use in the event of an emergency on the jobsite. Just throwing it out there.
you can get an on the go pressure washer for cheap 50 gallon drum $40 cheap electric power washer $99 you can wash like 15 cars with 50 gallons
Nice! Which model exactly?
this is probably better for you
worx hydro shot
Ohh, right. I've used it. It's nice!
Do you let them choose "Rinseless wash" or Pressure Washer w/foam or 2 Bucket?
What soap do you use to wash the dirty microfiber cloths?
I use regular detergenet and such. I don't care for the dirty towels
have you tried the ONR wash and wax or would you still stick with using the ONR wash
can you explain in a video the different grades to clay mitts im not sure which one i can use for variety of cars new /old
I just did a video on clay mitt I use: czcams.com/video/2mwXskZ_emo/video.html
Do you use your own water or the customers water when going out to wash and details their cars? Thank you in advance for the response
90% of the time I'm using the customers water. 10% of the time I take my 5 gallon water bucket filled up
Detail Groove thank you for the reply I always wondered if the customer is bothered if you use their electricity for your power washer or their water.
I've never had a problrm
Whatâs the best product to clean inside and outside glass ? My windshield is always dirty and itâs really annoying. Thanks fam
What's your current cleaning process?
Detail Groove I usually try to use a glass cleaner and just wipe it down. But itâs always full of streaks
Rain something đ
14:48 damn the slight of hand now thatâs a professional
Level: Master
whats a safe dilution ratio for optimum no rinse for the uses you showed in the video? 1:64?
I own my own detailing business. Benny's Xtreme Detailing find it on FB. You said you charged 220 for wash and a wax. Could you break down each service to help me understand how you got to that price. I would charge 180 for a full detail with clay bar, chrome polishing. That price includes interior without shampooing. Am I charging too little?
The problem is not pricing, your problem is lack of leads per day and week. I have plenty of people tell me no, but because I have so many people reaching out to me, I still get plenty of people that tell me yes.
That's the problem with 80% of detailers. It's hard to increase your price when you have 1 person contacting you every other day. If you have 4 people contacting you everyday, raising your rates and getting booked out is much easier.
Also, online reviews are HUGE!
That's the gold in the comment section right there.
Do you strip the old wax before applying the new wax?
Most customers hardly even wash their car. The chances of there being wax is slim
Do u have a link of the hose or pressure washer ur using ?
I'm using the customers lol
great video
Thanks Wayne!
How much was the charge for this? Or at least what was the ballpark? For an outside wash clay and wax on a vehicle of that size?. I'm going to offer some of these things to my detailing services and I am curious what kind of prices to range in. I know living in a different area etc can also effect pricing
I think I said the pricing the first 90 seconds... lol
Detail Groove ahh I must not have been paying attention. Sometimes I skip into it as well. Sorry man
Haha no worries
Clay mitt question. Does it matter if it's a $12 clay mitt or a cheical guys $50 mitt ? I've only used clay bars
I haven't used the $12 clay mitts. The one I have is $35. Nano skin wash mitt fine grade
Thank you for the info. Please don't stop making your videos they are so helpful.
Don't plan on it :)
Is there any way I prevent water spots? It's averaging 100 degrees where I live.
If possible, use filtered water and your problems are solved. Or go with a rinseless wash
Hello
little stp question
how do you get paid?
the customer pays you before-after by credit card cash check or bank transfer?
I follow french
Thank you Best regards
They pay after via cash or card
ok thank you man
Hey Oscar, this may be off topic, have you ever consider getting a griot boss polisher or rupes/flex da polisher? Also have you ever used a rotary polisher before?
I don't use a rotary and I eventually plan on getting a Boss
Do some customers tip on top of the detailing charge? Also, whatâs the best product for removing sap thatâs been sitting for a while?
Goo Gone ;)
100% they do. Typical tip is $5 to $20. The biggest tip was $100 on a $350 detail.
Do you use super clean for all parts of the car?
Just about, yes
Was this ONR also or another product? I dont get that much suds from ONR, what is your dilution ratio in this video?
This was Meguair's Gold Class soap. ONR is not meant to have any suds. That's the point of it being a rinseless wash. You can wash and go directly to drying without having to rinse the car down
I see, thanks again like always mate! great video and like how transparent you are of your methods + tips
Glad it's helping out Richard
you tell a client 220 down here in Florida and they look at you like tf I look like to pay 220 lol the most they pay 70 to 100 do to other detailers that charge low just to have there business running
Hmm, I know of detailers in Florida that charge $800+ for paint correction
What kind of camera setup you using Ocar?
Canon 70D with 10-22m lens and s Rhode Pro shotgun mic
How much would you charge for a smaller car like a sedan?
$140 to $180
I can't download the free guide. Is something wrong?
Shoot me an email to oscar(at)detailgroove(dot)co and I'll help you out!
On the windows, did you wipe them down with ONR?
Correct
Thats alot of work for some wheels..have u tried using BDx from 3D? Sray let it sit.light agitation.and spray off
Probably with a pressure washer it'd work. A hose is to weak for that, regardless of strength in APC
Have you ever made a mistake that was pretty bad on a car? Like a scratch or something of that sort
Noo, not yet at least... I'm sure it'll happen at some point
It's amazing to me how much he's saying how dirty this car is. He must not be in a snowy/icey state. The salt does horrible things to cars.
I'm in Texas
