The saddest part about Belos is that in Gravesfield he is still basically considerd a fairy tale hero meaning that without even knowing he basically already had everything he wanted to a degree but because he never botherd to find out he ended upp dying in the place he hated and by a fellow human after rolling a 0 on his charisma. The only saving grace for him is that the rest of humanity will never know that he turned himself into a monster that is basically everything his brother and to some extent himself hated.

Personally i like Belos human design exactly due to how ordinary it is.
The interesting part about Belos is that while he is now a monster, he was initially just an human. Giving him an ordinary look works because it rapresent how he is not some kind of cartoony villain or a monstrous demon that's born that way. He is just a regular person like many, anyone could have been Belos. That also give him an element of realism. Obviously his power and actions are not realistic in the slightes, but his motivations and mindset are pretty realistic and it's not impossible that a real evil person in a similar situation could make the same things, so having him look like a regual human help giving the impression that he is really anyone special, anyone could be Belos.

I mostly agree with this video's points. But in ''effects on the protagonist'' part for Andrias' entry, you forgot to mention one thing. Anne's terror over telling her parents that she indirectly helped an interdimensional tyrant get an opportunity to invade the entire multiverse, and the fact that a mercenary robot is literally trying to kill her... And that revelation goes HARD! All the things Anne's family believed about her, their thoughts on how mature she's become, all that crashing down just because of this. The entire first part of season 3A hinges at that and the ''finale'' for this arc is amazing. Anne-sterminator is genuinely a phenomenal episode.

Belos killed his own brother, used charisma and intelligence alone to take over an entire island's political world, cementing himself as the emperor that no one questions for 50 years while simultaneously poisoning the memory of the days before his reign until everyone unanimously knows it as the dark ages, manipulates a god into giving him real power, becomes the strongest witch in the boiling isles despite being human through intricate knowledge of glyphs that he developed against the will of the Titan who was actively hiding the knowledge from him, raised hundreds of clones to do his bidding while having a hold on everyone around him to the point they would do basically anything to serve him, very nearly succeeded in literal genocide before being undone by the aforementioned god, survived being smited, possessed the latest of the aforementioned clones, re-opened the portal to the demon realm, and possessed the entirety of the isles to "cleanse this perdition himself". I didn't even get into the things he didn't personally do.
Indirectly, he has an entire coven that basically serves as his personal military that enforces his will, including enforcing restrictions on magic, arresting anyone who protests or goes against the system (including children) or even strays from social norms, endangering a species of wood known to create sentient beings, hunting down peaceful creatures for plans they don't know the details of, practically holding a school hostage so they can manipulate them into taking sigils against their wills. They do this without question to his motives. He has Hunter hunt down stray palismen so he can consume them, literally sends him on missions collecting the very resources that will create his replacement, which include killing innocent creatures. He has an interest in defacing an ancient graveyard for the Galdorstones so he can make more grimwalkers (presumably with magic). Like, these things hardly scratch the surface of what he does. Hell, what the show gives us likely doesn't even get to the truly vile things he did to get to where he was concluding S2. Personally, I would count the actions of those following his orders as his own actions, and through all of that, he gets a 2/5???? I feel like completely reshaping a world in your image while indoctrinating an entire species to work towards their own extinction constitutes more than a 2/5, and given how little Andreas did in comparison and getting a 4/5 is just downright insulting.

I want to say that the most terrifying part of Belos is not his powers. Its his charisma. His ability to get people to join his cause while thinking that what they are doing is in the right. to genuinely convince his followers that they are on the side of good. While yes there were some people who saw his evil intentions but just did not care and followed him anyways. Belos was good enough with twisting his words to his benefit that he even got Luz to willingly help him with his plans and mentally screwing with her. Luz eventually saw through the façade, but it was too late. Belos already got what he needed out of her. He done so much damage to countless lives with words alone.

Personally, I'd like to ad some of my own ratings for Belos and Bill
While I won't change the rating, I give more credit to his face reveal.
When we are first introduced to him without it, I instantly felt a "yes he's evil but he really cares for his nephew" vibe, leading into that role of deception to not just Hunter but even me.
His personality, while evil and plainly obvious, shows a lot of character and emotion through out, not to mention how easily believable he can change his personality whether it'd be for that of manipulation or geniune emotion, so for personality alone 4/5 - 5/5
Motive brings it down a bit, for me, to 3/5 but beliefs are really great. While he is indeed evil, you do understand how he got towhere he was, not to mention his love-hate relationship with his brother and his refusing to change for the better just makes him so much more to fun to despise, so, again, 4/5 - 5/5
(I know I say 4/5-5/5 but I really can't decide where to put them)
Personally, i'd put him at 4/5 here
Actions, i'd say, deserve much higher, to 4/5
We, as the audience, really do know of what he's done and his cruelty for mental destruction is just straight evil. He literally kills his brother (to him at least) over and over and over again, likely out of both love and hate, yet even then he still see's them as just tools. He literally manipulated Hunter into getting the titan's blood in such a genius way it felt like something out of Death Note. All of that and more and putting him at 2/5 feels like an insult, atleast to me.
    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Again, not changing the rating, but when you think about it, Bill is a very unique villain. While seemingly at first a 1 dimensional villain, even when taking away his past he's very different from most villains; he's a main villain who's actions are far more bizarre than possibly any villain in media, especially in a morbid sense, which really ads to the surpisingly fun comedic side he has.
His motive is also quite unique. Instead of a a revenge quest of sorts or to be satisfied with his goals into fruition or just winning a generic sense of just being evil, he literally just start Armeggedon just to party. That is quite comedic to think about in it's own rights when ignoring his past, which also builds on his comedic adn extroverted personality
The fact that even without his sense of forshadowing or knoweledge of what he originally wants he still stays not only unique but fun is qute impressive. That said, the details we're given just add a whole new dimension to it.
    Heh, dimension.
Bill's apearance bumps up to 4/5 for me.
While it is indeed basic, it does still lead to a lot of creativity.
Personally, though, his more nightmarish form in the finale is really great and disturbing, which is why i'm a bit disapointed it wasn't
His simple design leads to it being really easy to remember and iconic, to the point where if anyone who knows who he is and see's a triangle with an eye in it we instantly think Bill.
(Fun fact, in GF lore HE inspired the Eye of Provenence through-out history so that really ads a lore to the fun design)
Presence, for me, bumps up to 4/5 at least. Even if we get rid of the zodiac in the op and just see as Bill as a sort of side antagonist alone, we still do see signs of him through the entire show from the beginning, which would only solidfy why I think, even if he was a side character, he'd still be a favorite to many.
Not to mention being presented in other shows/media while still adding lore, connecting so many series together, could potentially bumb it up a point.
    d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p d p
Overall, they both bump up to the 30s, Belos right on 30 with Bill being 31.
I'm not biased with the ratings but out of all the Disney media, with movies and shows, they are both my favorite antagonists of Disney.
One being a complete monster, both mentally and physically, who's INCREDIBLY fleshed out, the other who's sense of mystery rivals his iconism and comedy.
All three are equal in their own rights but I see Andrias as more of the sort of side villain or the other half of the side due to the Core being presented as well. I just like Bill and Belos so much not only their histories and motives but also just how so much character oozes out of them, one of them quite literally, practically giving off a physical presence of emotions.
Not to mention, when it comes to them both, Belos still has a past i'd like to explore, since it still has a mystery to it, like his very early life and evolution when growing up in Gravesfield, and Bill literally cannot escape medias and entertainment: from having being presented in other shows to the creator of the show practically personifying Bill to even his "affect" in the real world (in the sense of how we practically draw imagery of him not just online but also as graffiti and urban art, to his supposed lore he's connected to, to his corpse that started a world-wide hunt for him while also technically meaning that the events are supposed to be seen as a sort of ironic "based on a true story" vibe).
It's those extra additions that really solidify my love for both these characters.
I love Belos as a character not just because he's a villain but because he feels like a real person manipulated to believing in what he believes and how dickish and petty he is, alot like a Disney DIO, sort of.
I love Bill not just because he's funny but because he also has a completely hidden surface to him until shown to us, as well as his overwhelming mystery that stays with you for years on end.
Basically, these are why I personally wanted to add up some points. Maybe it's bias but it's because of those reasons.

Eh, I'd say there is a difference between the main antagonist and the main villain. A character can be both, but there is typically only really one main antagonist (for example, jack Horner and Death are both antagonists, but Horner is the main villain, and Death is the main antagonist).
I think the same principle applies with Amphibia, as the core serves as the main villain and Andrias serves as the main antagonist, based on how each character affects the main cast and how they themselves develop through the show.

I would attribute all the worst things that characters like Lilith and Hunter did directly to Belos. Also, killing Flapjack was even worse than you made it out to be. Belos didn't just do it, he used Hunter's own hands to kill his first and best friend. I would have given Belos a slight edge over Bill as a villain.

@@cathria. WIthout referring to other material at all, the info in the show itself tells us that it took a week to recover Stan's memories. Weirdmageddon started one week before August 31st. During Weirdmageddon, time stopped. No matter how many days seemed to pass to the people experiencing it (we know at least 4-5 days passed within it, possibly more depending on how long it took to build the Shack-tron), when Bill was defeated, everything snapped back into place. Everyone was back on the same date it started on (they hadn't missed any time in the real world, and thus the real world was never aware of what had happened). We know this because we're shown a montage of things that happen between the end of Weirdmageddon, and Dipper and Mabel's birthday party -- the town is repaired, the Shack is fully repaired (when it's a complete wreck), Old Man McGucket buys the Northwest Mansion, and so on. None of that stuff happened overnight, even considering "cartoon physics". While Stan began the process of regaining his memories in the scene with the scrapbook, during the newscast, Shandra Jimenez says that he has "finally regained his memories".
Of ccourse, in the episode itself, this goes by *extremely* quickly. So it absolutely makes sense to criticize the pacing of the episode and how quickly the "I said get Waddles off me!" reveal happens. Even though they got Disney to give them a double-episode's worth of time for the conclusion, there was still too much they wanted to fit into it, and some things do feel rushed. I think they did a remarkably good job, given the constraints they had... but hindsight is 20/20, and we can look at the episode and come up with ways to utilize the same amount of time, but make it clearer that it took longer than a few minutes for Stan to start to recover his memories. I also think they could have put the reveal after that newscast montage about what happened in the town after Weirdmageddon. Since we were going to skip over that time period anyway, we wouldn't have had to watch all the other characters just be super distressed and sad about Stan. But an indication that they'd spent almost a week thinking they couldn't get him "back", before he has that breakthrough remembering Waddles, might have made it feel a bit more earned.
Still, my point here is that the clues to why Stan could get his memories back, and how long it took, are right there in the show. No consulting other sources needed.

@@gryphonvert Yes, I agree with what you’re saying, I only meant to respond to someone who thought that since it was more explained in the book then it was fine. I dislike it when a show expects us to know something only written in their books in order to get the full enjoyment, and for someone to just basically say “Hey, it’s in the books, so it’s fine that’s it not explained completely in the show,” kind of rubs me the wrong way. I mean, depending on how much the show depends on the watcher knowing what happens in the books is always a factor for how frustrating it is, like in this situation. But, that’s all I really meant to say, I also thought that the episode was still incredibly enjoyable even if the memory part felt a bit rushed, I’m a sucker for happy endings for everyone. here is my opinion
Character designs 1: Bill (4/5) it's simple yet perfect 2: Belos (3/5) A great villain look 3: Andrius (3/5) It worked very well despite being the least changed design.
Personality 1: Bill (5/5) Bill is by far the most fun to watch 2: Andrius (4/5) It's just Bill's but somewhat weaker 3: Belos (3/5) He is really cold and mercy-less which fits him but makes him more like a machine.
Motive 1: Andrius (4/5) My dude had a tough breakup 2: Belos (3/5) As you said he really doesn't have much 3: Bill (3/5) while it being super vague was cool I am not a fan of that it was never given a full answer.
Powers 1: Bill (5/5) My dude could shuffle the functions of every hole in my face 2: Belos (4/5) even before possessing the Titan he had quite a bit up his arm 3: Andrius (3/5) He had quite the stash of tech.
Presence 1: Belos (4/5) as Bear with me said 2: Bill (3/5) Not much to say here for me 3: Andrius. (3/5) He didn't get that good at feeling as if everything was him even though a lot of it was him.
Actions 1: Andrius (5/5) My dude commited 3 attempted murders all in the span of 10 minutes tops and he still did more crap like blowing up Toad Tower as well helping in the invasion of earth 2: Bill (4/5) Nearly made Stan loss the shack, possessed Dipper with the plans to make him jump off the water tower after destroying his book, and of course his throne of living human agony and Preston's face 3: Belos (3/5) as Bear with me said Belos is more the man behind it all who stays in the shadows and has someone else do the dirty work.
Effects on the protagonists 1: Belos (4/5) unlike the others he left Luz in ruins instead of causing growth 2: Bill (3/5) As Bear with me said 3: Andrius. (3/5) As Bear with me said.
Fate 1: Bill (5/5) It was pitch perfect in every way 2: Andrius (3/5) While flawed I am happy with it 3: Belos (2/5) I was really expecting more and it was just scraping past ok, adding a scene where Calab Evenlyn Flapjack and all the Grim-walkers drag Belos into Hell for good would have made it much better, but as is it really needed some work.
    Final score
    Bill: 4 + 5 + 3 + 5 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 5 = 32/40
    Andrius: 3 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 3 + 3 = 28/40
    Belos: 3 + 3 + 3 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 2 = 27/40

    My opinion:
Andrias: Keith David delivers a fantastic performance, I mean, when doesn’t he? Andrias is a tragic and complex character who just wanted the love and respect from his father no matter how much suffering he had to cause on to himself and to others. And you can definitely see some of that inhumane behaviour his father had start to rub on to him in a certain scenes. And I admit, I liked his redemption arc with him learning to let go of his father’s control to help Amphibia.
Bill: I love Bill, I think he is funny and a chaotic villain. Like the literal representation of pure chaos and malice. He doesn’t care who he hurts or who he kills. He has no reason to do this except it amuses him. Now while I do like villains who have a bit of a motivation, Bill is one of my favourites because he has no motivation. He just enjoys chaos and pain onto others because that’s what he lives for
Belos: Honestly, Belos is my personal favourite villain. While Bill was built up throughout the show in the background like he was watching them, the buildup to Belos was done amazingly as well. Despite the fact we don’t see him until the two part finale of season 1, he still had a presence that I felt. That when we were introduced to him in the finale, his intro built up mystery, fear and intrigue. We didn’t know why he was sucking the essence out of the Palisman but we will. And in episode nineteen, we saw how powerful he was and how much of a struggle Luz had to beat him. Every scene with him in it is intense. He is manipulative, he is powerful, he is scary and compare that with Andrias or Bill he doesn’t do or say anything funny. Like, he doesn’t even crack a joke which is what I like since not every villain needs to be funny, you can make them just plain scary while adding attributes that make him intriguing. And the twist on what he actually was was amazing and helps us see that he may be a human but he is far from human in the end of the series but a monster that he swore to destroy. To me, Belos is one of Disney’s best villains. He is ruthless, intriguing and absolutely terrifying and Matthew Rhys is absolutely terrific in the part

For those of you who think he doesn't have a motivation, if you were a demon who had the potential to have unlimited power, you would probably do whatever it takes to get that. Bill lived in a 2D universe and was super bored his whole life. He discovered that he could take over the Earth and become the ruler of everything. All he needed to do was threaten a few kids and get into someone's mind. It makes perfect sense.

@bearwithme5669 so, this story goes back to before we got Evelynns name. So, I wanted to call Calebs wife Phoenix and I did for a while but then she was revealed to be called Evelynn. Thus, I wanted to call her Daughter Phoenix instead but, I realised that dosent work because there's no Lynn. Thus, I renamed Evelynn and Calebs daughter to be Madilynn because it has Lynn in it and that's the name of my best friend so its my way of saying thank you to her for everything she's done for me. Anyways back to Collector. So, before WAD came out (9 days iirc) I wanted to give Collector a name as I thought we'd get one in WAD so I wanted to see how accurate I could get it. I wanted an astrological name since they're a child of the stars and in research I found out Phoenix was astrological Thus, I finally got to name a character Phoenix

I feel that it should either be 1,2,5 or 1,3,5 just I think that Belos is closer in strength to Andrias which is why I think either 1,2 or 2,3 then bill on 5 as its a little bit of a power jump, just a smidge of one though.

Belos easily the better villain. He was smart, cunning and honestly didn’t give a shit who he hurt since they got in the way of his goal. He relished in Luz’s breakdown and was ready to discard Hunter like trash
Yes he was outwitted by Luz twice but that wasn’t his final downfall. Luz beat him because she received help from the Titan…also super glad they didn’t push a redemption for him, Kikibitch or Odalia cuz they were irredeemable monsters-Belos being the worst
Andrias had a very understandable backstory and I rooted for his redemption since he truly cared about the one he hurt most (Marcy) and he redeemed himself pretty well imo.
Bill Cipher is another story entirely. He was a great villain and he was fun to see. Like Belos, he didn’t care who he hurt and he laughed at misery. In the end he was a party animal to a major extreme but he could be dangerous if he wanted to be which he proved to be. His only downfall was the luck that Stan and Ford were identical twins so they were able to trick him.
I guess I’ll take a minute to mention The Core since they were a separate villain from Andreas. The Core was interesting I suppose, smart and cunning and as Darcy they were quite a threat. However in the end they were defeated by their own ego as well as Anne willing to sacrifice her own life to save Amphibia from them.
Overall, Belos definitely wins as best villain. I hated his guts soooo much but that’s what makes a villain good. The way I see, there are 3 ways to make a great villain:
    1. The sympathetic with a very understanding backstory of why they are the way they are which leaves room for redemption
    2. The I don’t give a shit who I hurt for my goal. They have a specific goal that will hurt people and they don’t care who gets in their way as they think they are the hero and refuse to believe otherwise
    3. The one who just wants to see the world burn and relish in the chaos
Belos, Bill and Andrias each fit these categories. Belos being the second one and I’ll admit I was someone who wanted him to turn out to be kinda like andrias and actually care about Hunter with Kikibitch being the true villain but I eventually dropped that cuz he was an irredeemable monster and a hypocrite. And unlike Bill and Andrias, Belos had a personal connection to Luz and was able to break her down to the point she even hated herself and wanted to punish herself for her mistake.

Another way to make a great villain is to make you hate them to a personal level. A villain is someone who embodies evil in a story and sometimes evil is hated upon, then embrace that hatred of the villain in an understandable level. If you hate a villain so much because of what they've done, then that shows that you did a great villain.
But just make sure to balance that hatred with empathy if you want a sympathetic but hateable villain because while they went through some messed up stuff, that will never change the fact that what they've done is horrible.

Bill is someone we know nothing about. If there was more gravity falls it would be amazing. Bill, lore wise is best. Probably the same with power as he well uh controls time reality eg;. So his powers and lore are both 5/5 but his design is really simple but sticks too the mind but his stronger forms are insanely cool so id say a 5/5 if you use all forms. His motives are too be a giant meme so 5/5 there. (What can i say the man has a respectable goal) . Another thing are the feats. He is easily 5/5 because he destroyed his universe and time baby.whats more is his presence, although memey, is just cOld with a capital O sometimes. And just the though of him for dipper stan eg; is crazy.so another 5/5. This is also crazy for effects on the protagonists so another 5/5. The only thing he lacks is cool fight scenes.this is cuz hes too strong. So for the fights we would give 4/5 because we havent seen a proper fight except of that huge robot when bill was just playing around. Overall i think he is one of the best villans ever made. And definitely the best for Disney.

Belos was amazing and incredibly menacing up until he just became an obsessive and broken man after like his 2nd or 3rd interaction with Luz. In my mind he stopped being that much of a looming threat and more of just a hurdle to be climbed over after the petrification failure when he revealed his true face to the people of Boneborough.
Andrias on the other hand (to me at least) was an expertly crafted one. An obvious bad guy from the moment we saw his true nature and the fact he made himself blend in as a passive figure to the main characters up until the betrayal and stabbing of Marcy made him an insidious enemy. Belos was always a threat before Luz even knew who he was but Andrias was like a spy, becoming friends with the people he'd ultimately have to betray/kill.
Bill Cipher on the third hand was just a chaotic force of nature who stayed menacing and threatening throughout, but I'd argue he didn't have much of an impact until the later seasons as he was kind of a joke in his first few encounters, allowing himself to almost be bested by the Pines Twins during their first real encounter in Stan's mind and ACTUALLY being defeated when he was kicked out of Dippers body during that puppet fiasco.

In my opinion Belos got even better the more time went on
First is that his goals are a 1 to 1 parallel of racists in the real world, he’s so ignorant and blind sided by his own hate that he’s willing to go to the extremes no matter the cost
He killed his brother over and over and over again to teach him a lesson and get him to convert to his side no matter how sick and inhumane
he then managed to convert the entire isle into forgoing their roots and culture to adopt a religion that actively hurts them as a people and in the end it took the wild magic of god himself (titan) to take him down
he was always broken and obsessive that’s how racists are, they aren’t logical or rational, they’re just rash, emotional, and illogical creatures that obsess over small details to differentiate between themselves and others and Belos does a great job of showing how maniacal they can be
