If you just upgraded to the Runcam Racer 2 and now your Camera Control function is not working, here's the fix.
This fix applies to any other Runcam camera with the new camera control feature where you can use either UART control or the traditional analog joystick.
You need to manually switch back and forth between those modes. I'll show you how, and I'll also show you how to use the camera control feature, in case you haven't figured that one out yet.

Thanks JB! Another awesomely informative video that tons of people are gonna refer to!
Thanks. I couldn’t find this info anywhere, thanks for the video!
I learned something today. Thank you!
Awesome video brother. Always a go to for help
5th, but really 3rd. Lol I can't wait for you to post videos Bardwell. It makes my day when you post a new video and it's a nice longish video of you going very in depth.
Wicked Reelz
I agree always great to watch!
Man, the mic on your quad at the end there is pretty awesome…
hey joshua how do you access the bonus menu on a runcam 2? id lioke to lose the "runcam" title as well as the voltage signal due to I use the Beta flight osd for that. Thanks
As always great video.
It’s indoor season. It’s been raining hard for three days. Can you do an upgrade video on the Mobula 7 / TinyHawk Camera settings or camera replacement. TweetFPV did an upgrade video to the VTX antenna. Is it worth it?
Thanks
Hi Joshua. I have an GEPRC Stable flytower stack. Can I just use one line to control the cam ie, fc TX uart pad and connect to RX on the camera and not use the fc RX uart pad to the TX on the cam (no pad on the fc)?
Really nice, JB! Thanks a lot! 😊
I only hope RunCam sends a spare cable for doing that... 🤔
@@d3c0deFPV Hey, dude! 😊
THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!!
Where do you get those standoff mount for the camera?
that helped me thank you
Dont you have an affiliate link for raceday quads im about to order a few things from them and thought i would use your link
Good info JB, thx for sharing. I personally prefer to use the "bat+" from the camera to monitor the voltage on the OSD.
.
If the camera is powered from vBat this isn't necessary. If you're powering the camera from regulated power and using the OSD, then the bat+ wire is needed.
@@JoshuaBardwell Guess I should have elaborated. I am using regulated power to power up both my camera and vtx. In fact , I am using your version 2 flight controller & use the 9 volt output for both. I don't have the need to set up my camera more than the one time, when first installed, so using the joystick isn't a big deal to me.
This is just the way I do it & am not saying it is the best waym, but I do have very good video. I also am using the OSD with voltage monitored via bat+ on the camera.
The Runcam Eagle micro orange has the tx rx control also.
Hey Joshua, I heard that you find the realpit thing cool ;) then you'll be pleased to hear that there are FCs available that have that feature integrated. I'm eyeballing the matek 722 se board. It has a filtered vbat pad which can be switched on and off, i.e. connect vtx & camera to that and you have realpit :D
Thanks for the reply. I enjoy your videos. You most likely hear that all the time. I was thinking I could use something like a "EACHINE ROTGO1 . Possible? Is the latency to bad for free style flying?
I don't think I would use it for flying. It's mostly good for spectating.
Ok I have a mamba f405 mk2 with the latest beta flight and firmware 4.2.11.
I have set the camera to uart mode, I get the 3 beeps when pushing right and 2 beeps when pushing left but it does not display any settings at all.
What do I do now?
One last guestion , have you done any video
On this device or plans to? Recommend anyone who has?
do I connect the same way for this cam as the one in your video??? the back of the runcam micro swift has gnd and osd in those positions ???
If your camera has GND and OSD, that means it has analog control. It will work with a joystick or with the CAM_C pad on your flight controller. But CAM_C is unreliable and often doesn't work.
Does it work with runcam phoenix 2 nano ?
made my day. yay.
It so clear,crystal clear
I'm sad cause my old runcams have OSD/GND and all the new flight controllers are dropping cam control cause TX/RX support so gonna have to get a couple of the little controller adapter boards :/. Sucks you have to run two extra wires now in stead of just one :/
You da man JB!!
i can control the flightcontroller osd stuff but i can not get into the camera controle mode
great vid, all works but seems to keep going into remote mode while using throttle/yaw..help!
as if always active? can a switch be used to stop remote mode...thx jb
Wouldn't it have been nice if there was a shorted plug on the control board you could plug into that would switch it over? Also I was wondering how you don't enable this when you are flying but I'm guessing it won't work when you are armed?
Correct. It won't enable when you are armed.
Is it also possible to access the bf osd camera control via this feature? to change pids and control your vtx?
These are two different features. OSD and camera control are independent and do not depend on each other to work.
So how i need to solder if i like to use the bf feature to change pids and access the vtx with the racer 2?
cool... but how cam I get the runcam and the voltage writing off the screen on a runcam micro swift??? can someone help me out thanks in advance... ;-)
As shown in this video, press up for 2 seconds on the joystick.
@@JoshuaBardwell
@@JoshuaBardwell ok ill try that even though they are 2 different cams...
Is it possible that the menu pops up while flying?
px4 suport ?
What model is the fpv screen you are using ??
Unfortunately, it's discontinued :-(
RaceDayQuads has a similar screen that might work: bit.ly/2ExLjQM
And when this doesnt work too =/
The joypad doesnt work on my Foxeer and the UART Method you show doesnt work form me too =/
How can I fpv setup using an Apple IPad?
You really can't. The latency is too high.
Should've been this way from the start. I was pretty annoyed when I received 2 newer micro eagles with tx/Rx control. It should've never been integrated until this form.
@@steelrainfpv3383 awesome, those paid for my printer. Thanks again.
@@hazzafpv3015 i did not have a spare uart, i'm using it on a plane with a f411 wing, only a couple uarts on that board.
What it's the uses of a on off switch on a Fpv camera 🙇🏻
Guillermo Nespolo I think you’re talking about the switch for his VTX, in which case it keeps the VTX off until you are ready to fly so you don’t knock others out of the air by powering up right next to them.
This way you can mess with your quad, power it up, even arm it quickly or test something line of sight with absolutely no effect on those around you.
hey joshua were Vbat goes, I don't know
It goes to any vBat source (e.g. ESC+ pad).
runcam micro swift 2....
"If you don't have one of these you should get it.." not trying to be rude but unless you are a reviewer or someone who does this daily like yourself, there is no way in hell it is a must have for anyone else like you claimed. (changing cameras monthly and i never see my self for the need of this adapter+ i'd had to buy the screen)
If you don't see the value, that's your prerogative. Here is why I recommend it.
No video in goggles. You see the OSD so the FC and vTX are working. Is the camera damaged? This $3 adapter will let you plug the camera directly into your goggles and test it. You don't need the screen. Just the AV cable that was included with your goggles.
@@JoshuaBardwell Now that i think again, you are right. it is just that i didn't receive any adapter when i got my used HD2s... Thanks for clarifying
This is the one I like to use.
