I've used this adapter with Foxeer Arrow Micro, Monster Mini, and Runcam Eagle and it works great. I kind of got the OSD pin to work for the Eagle than it stopped working randomly. So, to just avoid the hassle I wired up the adapter - had to change the timing a bit in the CLI and it works great. Can even enter the OSD menus (throttle center + pitch up). All on the JB F4 AIO and HolyBro F7

This works great with my Foxeer Predator Min V2! Might need another. Saving to build a micro brushless and put in a Foxeer Falcor Micro.
will the micro swift 3 camera only be controllable via uart. I have 4 quads with different FCs and cameras all with camera control working perfectly and also FPV wings that need the camera to be setup via the dongle pad if this is the way cameras are going how will you set up non multi rotor cams.
I like how RunCam continues to address the needs of us pilots. But for my quads with an Eagle 2 Pro all I needed was a 300 Ohm resistor, works solid without sacrificing a UART.
Noob question... So the other 3 pins connector still has to be connected to the board as usual right? 9V, GND, V.? The control board I have hooked up to 5V, G, R6, T6.
if the control boards of these camera's give a different resistance depending on the button pressed then it can be re-purposed on your transmitter.
When connected to a input that "reads" voltage like the input used for pots and the sticks then you can assign a value to the pressed button and use that board to control your flight controller.
Yes you might have to add a second resistor to complete the "voltage divider".
Will this work with a tx only on your flight controller? That's all I have spare. My soft serials are tx only and I thought that would send the signals to the camera but this board has tx also. Is the tx pad a must on this board?

Joshua, maybe I’m missing something, but not all the work of the dev is for nothing, you selected the UART to control the Runcam device, so there is something about that setting that makes everything work. It seems like the little Runcam board takes full advantage of the already written stuff in BF 3.3. In any event thanks for bringing it up to us the “little” people.
I know this is an old vid, but I never knew about this board until now. On my CLRacing F7, I had a dedicated OSD pad (which I wired my Foxeer Predator v2 too). Initially it didn’t work. Found another video that gave CLI commands I needed to enter that was NOT in the camera or board’s documentation. Think I’ll overlook those “dedicated” pads and use this lil board. Thanks!
I have a F722-SE Matek with a foxeer micro predator 4 super wdr. Inav setup. Not sure if I will have CC? I do also have a run cam pro II
This might’ve already been covered in the comments, but will this adapter at work in reverse. Meaning, can I take a UART controlled camera and wire it so it’s controlled by the camera control pad on your flight control board?
Hey Joshua I am still having issues with my GepRC cinepro 4k, I have been trying to get the Tarsier camera to use camera controls, I even bought the 6 dollar caddx FC cable that I was told I needed to make it work I wired in the board as directed I have everything I need and it still does not work, what am I doing wrong. Any chance you can investigate and find out if I am doing something wrong or need something more. I mean I have the dongle that plugs into the board that the Caddx FC cable plugs into, and wired the Caddx Fc Cable as directed to the 5v power, the ground and to the RX and TX ensuring that the RX of the cable goes to the TX on the FC and the RX of the FC cable gors ton the TX on the board. Do the half throttle and to the right and nothing. I cannot figure what is wrong. Been trying to reach out toe both Caddx and GepRC but I guess the virus thing has them not returning tickets these days. Any chance you can help.

i wonder if the cameras that don't work fully with this device, like the caddx SDR1 in my case, if one or more of the 5 resistors on this little board could be swapped out with the ones from the osd board of the camera that its not fully working on to gain correct full control , if im right, "not sure" but im thinking this little board is just addressing the resistors just like a press on the original osd. id really like to know if someone has tried this. i know its trivial but would be nice if that would work.
Just wired this to a Predator Micro and works a treat, little laggy on stick inputs but does the job :)

Been trying to get clarification on this for a while. The lumineer micro eagle, pins are marked osd and grnd, do I need the control board or not for a maytek f405 wing?
I would use the control board for any camera that uses analog control. Your camera uses analog control.
Hello Joshua, congrats for the great job you done with videos about drones technology. I have searched for information about the connection between a MatekF722mini with BF4.1.0 and a Caddx Turtle V2 with march2019 firmware (last one I could find), but I found very few about. First I would like to know if the serial communication via FC UART direct to the TX-RX pins on the Caddx is officially available and working. Second, if you have already test it (as you are the most reliable source of information I know - thanks to be here). And last, if you would be able to confirm the layout pins on the split board of the Caddx Turtle V2. I would to post here my wiring diagram, but I’m not sure if I can and how. Thanks FMO
I can't get my RunCam Control Adapter working on a HelioSpring board with a Micro Eagle. I know the board already has camera control, but I wanted to tinker with the RunCam Control Adapter on a TX/RX Uart before I purchase the new Micro Eagle with TX/RX camera control. My question is, for a board that already has camera control, do I need to turn off camera control in the CLI before the Uart camera control with work? Thanks
No. Just enable runcam peripheral in Ports. I can tell you I'm using a camera control adapter on my Helio build so I know it works.
Dam I don’t have any spare uarts , I have 3 uarts one for Reciever sbus 2and for telemetry and third for smart audio can you resource a uart

bradley meek you cold even use a breadboard. It depends on the quality of your work. But keep in mind that you are stuck to a top and bottom layer only when using this method.

Yes you still have to wire up the camera as usual.
I have the micro eagle with the tx/Rx pin-outs.. The manual says to wire it directly to a an open uart. I tried that but I can't get the camera settings to come up. Do I need this board or is there something else I need to do. The quad is the hawk 5. Also I'm new to fpv and your channel has helped a lot. Thanks
You do not need this board if the camera has TX/RX. You can connect directly to a UART on the FC. Make sure that TX on the cam goes to RX on the FC and vice versa. Also make sure that you have enabled Runcam Peripheral in the Ports tab for the UART you wired to.
If you do those things and it still doesn't work make sure your endpoints go from 1000 to 2000 as shown in this video: czcams.com/video/jpuiKcQJ70s/video.html

That's a different function, that doesn't work reliably for many people. If you have it working, awesome.
Josh, I have a Eachine Lizard 95 that I have bound with a Flysky FS-i6. However, I can't get the quad to respond to my transmitter controls. I'm sure its something in my settings, but not sure what it could be. The stack on the quad is a Flysky. I recently became a sponser on your site hoping for some assistance. Please advise me or shoot me a link. I have looked on youtube for different settings, but none work. I did dump the factory settings which use the 3.2 and that is the version that I'm still using. Stack has a solid blue light which should mean that I am bonded with the transmitter, buts the only thing indicating a connection.

Good Morning Joshua. After I return from flying today, I will start working on my next build, a Chameleon TI with your FC. I'll also be using the Mach 2 vtx, so with only UART6 remaining, will I have to make a choice between camera control and esc telemetry? Have you heard any success stories with the RR Swift 2 soldered directly to the camera control pad of your FC? Many thanks for your guidance and lessons
You will need to use TX4/RX4 for camera control if you are using this adapter. You can use LEDstrip for vTX remote control by reassigning LEDstrip to softserial. Instructions for how to do this are in the user manual for the FC, which you can download from the racedayquads product page.

Josh, will this board work on other cams? Like tbs zero zero v2? Or fat sharks cam with the osd cable? I'm also trying to get fpv cam osd control with a serial port of my pixhawk.. Would this help with all that?
Most cameras use the same resistor values and the board will work. But I can't guarantee it'll work with older cameras especially.
Also it has to be a 2 wire camera joystick. The kind of camera with a five wire joystick won't work.
I have tried to use the fat shark joy stick with the zero zero v2 and it doesn't work, a problem I'm having on a build now though I hope you can help with is, tbs unify v3, zero zero v2, osd core pro, it all works except I don't get the fpv cam control with the osd core pro, on the tbs faq under smart audio, it says to jump all 3 terminals on the core pro and it will work, telemetry, audio.. But I do and it doesn't work and unify control disappears... I know your not tbs, but getting a response from them or anyone about this on the forums is non-existent. I know you know your stuff, so I figured I would ask ya if you know something about it, lol..

Figured out my own question - the computer I was using was still using the Chrome version of the configurator. Loaded the stand alone tool and instantly available in the drop down.

Can your UART be inverted? Can you also use a different transmitter, such as Flysky?
It can work with any transmitter.
UART cannot be inverted.
I think the old way is still useful as it doesn't require a UART and I don't have spare UARTS on my old F3 boards but I do use the LED pin for camera control.
What do you mean you use the LED pin for camera control? I have an unused LED pin, how would I make this useful for controlling my camera?

Can this be accessed while the quad is armed? I kinda see myself flying, centering the right stick, at mid throttle, then do a crazy right yaw, and boom... no control.... or is it only available when disarmed?
The way it used to work is, the camera control adapter would not enter camera-control mode when the quad was armed. If you arm with camera-control mode active then it might activate when you're in the air I'm not sure about this.

will the RC remote adaptor work with the Foxeer predator? I had the impression the predator had a unique problem (irrespective of resisters/capacitors) that made it not work with the BF cam control system (from BF github wiki: Foxeer Predator- UP&DOWN do not work, hopefully future batches will have the firmware flaw addressed)
It should work with any camera that uses the standard joystick I would think.

Uninverted UARTs only. And I think it should work on Foxeer cameras because I have used Runcam joysticks on Foxeer cameras. But I can't be sure as I haven't tested it yet.
Your blu-tack is unusually blue in hue, is that an American thing? It's quite a pale blue here in the UK, and yes it's awesome for holding things to solder.

The basics of dshot are the same. I have separate videos on dshot commands like turtle mode and esc beeper (actually just one video).
Joshua Bardwell I know the video... lol I’ve watched like 3-4 times I think. It’s a good vid but there is barley any info on DShot 1200. I have really loved DShot 1200 when combined with 32bit ESC’s and I was thinking you would make a good video on the potential benefits to running 1200 with BlHeli_32.

Any idea if this will work on a Foxeer HS1177? They only have one OSD wire and a stupid joystick that requires you to disconnect the camera from the quad and connect to a screen unless you modify the cable. I've tried many times to get camera control working with all kinds of resistors/capacitors but have yet to make any progress.
Reason I ask is I was stupid enough to buy a second hand cam with no osd stick and the guy left his call sign on the osd. I've been flying with a MONDO FPV call sign for about 6 months now...

Do you know if this will allow you to change One Touch Scene Setting on the RunCam Swift 2 Rotor Riot?
I have Andrey Mironov hack running on two quads and works great (was a bit difficult to get working ,but does not use up a UART) ,but the only thing it does not allow you to do is change pre saved scene settings ,which is a shame as its a great hack. You can tweak individual camera settings but this takes time. I have some on order so I should find out when they arrive?
RunCam is my favourite manufacturer ,really innovative ,I hope they bring out a Session 5 competitor?
I don't think there is a shortcut for it.
Hi Josh ,I just thought I would let you know One Touch Scene Setting on the RunCam Swift 2 Rotor Riot does work on the RunCam control adapter ,when installed ,if you move your role stick(mode 2) to the right from centre and hold for 2 secs you can change scene settings from ,indoor ,outdoor ,personnel ,riot ,lightrax ,cloudy. This good news as it means you can change setting quickly depending on the lighting conditions when you fly ,sunny one minute ,overcast the next ,very common here in the uk!
Just don't do what I initially did and connect the osd control wire to the adapter with the inline resistor mod still installed!

I keep having the problem of when I push to the right on the yaw stick, centered and all, it just plays the calibration tones and doesn’t do anything. No blue LED or nothing. Am I missing something?
If the blue LED does not turn on on the board, then the board is not getting the command to turn on.
If the beeper plays the tone, then the FC is trying to enable the feature. So you know the FC is set up with the feature enabled on the UART and the FC is reading the stick command.
Check your wiring. TX to RX and RX to TX?

Andre's contribution will still be needed and it won't become obsolete because not every one will replace their working runcam for the new runcam 3 models with built-in control module -- like me.
and for only $3 I beats buying the new camera for $34 or so... But be sure I will buy the new swift 3 when I my runcam is broken.
Could you try this with a foxier predator or something like it to find out if it actually does work on other brands of cameras so that we don’t have to buy it just to find out that all of our cameras it actually does not work? My gimbals are not what i want. Throttle is left stick left/right.
Yaw is right stick left/right. thats not good.

I haven't ever been able to get cam control working with my caddx micro f1 and matek f411. I have read that this adaptor doesn't work with caddx cameras. Does anyone have any input?
I tried wiring the control pin on the camera to the rssi pad of my fc, with a 150ohm 1w resistor inline, to no avail.
fc doccumentation states to use rssi pad and gives instructions on what to change with cli to make it work.
I've successfully used a runcam joystick with a caddx camera so I would guess it would work.

My Kopis 1 handles the Runcam and Atlatl TX just fine. What I can't find on the interwebs is what all the settings/menu choices on the screen do. For e.g., what's the difference between SET and Save/Exit and Save/Reboot. If someone could point me to this info I'd be extremely grateful.
Set writes the channel, power, and other settings to the vTX immediately. Save/Exit saves the FC config, not the vTX config.
Thanks JB. Flew my first "problem free" FPV flight today after "setting" the vTX power to 200mW and having it STAY there. It defaults back to 25 mW without using the SET command. I found that out the hard way.
Hi, my Camera Control dosnt work. Fc is thr Bardwell F4 with the softwar "CLRACINGF4 (CLR4) 4.0.6", cam is a Foxeer Falkor and solder the OSD to the Cam_C and the Gnd to the Gnd on the Fc.

resource CAMERA_CONTROL 1 B07 (changed from B09 to B07)

You shouldn't need to remap or reconfigure anything to use CAM_C function with that FC. Why did you change the pin and etc? It comes from the factory ready to go. The first thing to do is try to make it work as it came.

Hey dude, If you find the solution, please tell me. I have the same problem. I solder osd to the cam_c port and gnd to the ground but nothing happens if I move the throttle stick to the right.

How do you wire addressable led s to a hobbywing fc the manual is very vague. I'll pay you for info!!!! I can't find a dumbed down wiring diagram I put an ummagawd led in the remix bit I think I wired it wrong
It's always the same: power to power (5v? 12v? depends on the LEDs) ground to ground, data/signal wire to the LED pad on the FC.

It's something to do with that. Use a multimeter to figure out if one of those is 5v or ground, the last one is ledstrip signal. I don't know what it means 5v in that diagram.

Shit I just ordered like 300 resistors and 300 tiny capacitors! I heard micros may be different as far as the need for the capacitor?
You build a low sort of a low pass filter based DAC. So there are many reasons why it may not work: Impedance of the cam input, PWM frequency of the used pin (depends on the divider which is set for the port and some more nice struggles... without any active components like some transistors or an operational amp, it is what we call in german "Kaffeesatzlesen". (reading in the tea-leaves) It may work out of the box or not....
I have tested this Runcam board, and found that it works, ok, but not better than my camera control hack, with the big disadvantage to use one precious UART. Camera control hack uses just 1 pad via a SoftSerial selection. Only advantage is that is makes it easy. Also, it does not work with Foxeer cameras (at least the Monster I have tested), as the resistances are not the same than Runcam uses.
Either solution can be good depending on your situation. Many people struggle to get camera control working, and this is a life-saver for them.
I'm surprised Monster didn't work. I have used my RunCam joystick adapter on every camera I've ever bought, including Monster, Predator, Arrow... the only one it vaguely had a problem with was Caddx and even then it mostly worked.
tbh I am fine with having the other cable tucked behind my camera, what would be really cool is different camera setting presets (night,day,overcast,grass,indoors ect)
Some Runcam cameras have this feature and now you can switch between presets easily using your transmitter sticks.
Joshua can you test if it will work with the Foxeer-Predator-Mini.

Does not work as Foxeer uses a different resistance scheme. Tested with my Monster
V2, at least.

I prefer the old version that not use a uart, just more simple and less wired. And work well for all my cameras

Yes exactly. The JB Phoenix camera has this built in so you don't need the board.

I have tested with some Foxeer cameras but not the Monster. In every case I tested, it worked.

i have to ask why not just a tx? fport dose both way through the tx...
IDk they elected to do full duplex instead of half duplex.
Joshua Bardwell im curious why tx can tranmit and recieve but rx cant? or can it? fport would have been so much better if we could use the sbus rx pin and free a tx pin on our limited uart fc.
I got it working first time on bardwell board but then menu came up mid flight . Not good
You gotta yaw-left before you take off to take it out of camera control mode.

Hey Josh this is a DVR of when it happened the other day . So you are saying in order to have this not happen in mid flight is to just yaw left after quad is initialized ? czcams.com/video/IDmgZ65InMQ/video.html - Starts at :45 of video.

I would love to see this work for the Foxeer Predator Mini. There has been discussion online and solutions to make camera control work for other cameras, but as it stands Andre's camera control function simply will not work for the Predator in any configuration.
Wüdz_fpv , this adapter won't work with predator cams.
Edit . It does work. I just wasn't doing the stick commands correctly .

I have corrected some other posts I did. Yes it does work , I screwed up and jumped the gun and had a sour attitude (sorry). Need to input enter command twice with your transmitter for osd to appear. I was doing the commands incorrectly. Hope I corrected my posts before many saw it. Wouldn't want to miss inform people. Sorry about that !

This is a difficult position for me to be in because it is a product that deserves a close look, but TBS products are so politically charged that it's painful to make a video about them. If I say anything at all critical about it, people will say it's because I hate TBS. If I say only good things about it, people will say I'm just doing it because I am sucking up to TBS. Basically, it is a total lose-lose situation for me to even mention the product at all. If I refuse to say anything at all about it, then I get accused of not covering it because I hate TBS, but at least I don't put a giant lightning rod for angry comments out there and can get on with my life.

Henhound I would assume it's a function that works only when disarmed. Really simple to find that out though. On the bench. WITH YOUR PROPS OFF. LOL....
