  • A short documentary of my seven day hike along the Beaten Path Trail in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness. We started in Cooke City and hiked 28 miles to East Rosebud Lake in late June. This was early season for this trail which is normally heavily traveled. We didn't see anyone for 5 1/2 days on the trail. Like many have said, this was one of the most scenic trails I have ever been on.
    In this video I had the pleasure of hiking with Daniel from Kamp Wild. Check out his CZcams channel at / @kampwild

    Many years ago 2 guys and myself were camped right across from the pics on F D. 2 moose were calling and ended up hooking up in the little bay on the west side. The wolves gathered on the cliffs and began howling. An amazing experience. This was a wonderful short, Thank You.

    Thanks for sharing on one of the hiking Facebook groups!
    I also want to side note: LOVE the John Muir quote! He’s always fitting to quote in the expanse of such wonderful creation. The complexity of the mountains and lakes would leave anyone in awe, and yet, he’s one of few who so adequately expresses the internal pull we have towards these wonders of nature.

    Super video! I've been there 5-6 times from both the East and the West. Try the dirt road going South to Independence, deep in the heart of the Ab-B; just before the end hike eastward to the Lake Plateau region and lose yourself for a week; great fishing, hiking and scrambling the peaks that surround it; there's a wonderful loop that starts at Lake Columbine. Also, mid to late August and early September I've found is best with less skeeters.

    I have done the Beaten Path 10 times, doing my 11th this year. It never gets old. I just posted my own video from 2020. Having tried to capture this place many times, I was completely humbled and blown away by your videography and presentation skills. This is truly one of the best videos I have seen, you are nothing short of inspirational. It was fun to see the campsites you selected, much different from my pattern. There is always something new to explore along that trail. Thanks for putting the work into this, I can tell it was a serious undertaking. All I can say is well done, very well done.

Thank you again. I will definitely check out your video of the trail.

      @@ruggedendeavours756 FYI, if you ever do this trail again, look for the faint path into the woods right after leaving Rainbow lake. Its right across from the meadow you pass on the other side. If you go about 50 yards over the ridge you will be rewarded with one of the most fantastic views of the hike. On a ridge overlooking Rimrock lake. It's in my 2020 video about 18 minutes in.

    Awesome video, Conner! I normally don’t like music in backpacking videos, but all of the songs you selected really enhanced the viewing experience - nice job! Also, how does this video only have 6.5K views? Next to My Own Frontier, one of the most well done I’ve seen.
    That John Muir quote is a favorite of mine. Back in 2019 I did the Rae Lakes loop out in Kings Canyon of the Sierra (highly recommend) and while on the trail I read John Muir’s book “My First Summer in the Sierra”. Was interesting to read his thoughts on the general area I was hiking through for the first time as well.

      @ruggedendeavours756  Před 2 lety

      Hey sorry for the delayed response. There were trout in the streams and lakes. Hammock camping was perfect. Not sure what your experience is with hammock camping but you did need insulation underneath you either in the form of a sleeping pad or underquilt. I recommend the underquilt. I have camped in the minus conditions in a hammock. As long as you have the right gear you will stay plenty warm. Hope this helps.

      More scenic. If you were to start at East Rosebud then the last 5 miles or so towards Cooke City would be all wooded. You don’t really have any views of the mountains near Cooke City so ending at East Rosebud makes the views get better as you progress.
