    6. Close of crown
    7. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:
"We felt that making the exhibition absolutely special and unique was very important. And we've been asking ourselves - all the team at Sotheby's- our mantra has been, 'What would Freddie do? What would he say? Yeah, go for it.'"
    8. Wide of room featuring art from Mercury's collection
    9. Various of artworks
    10. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:
"You've got works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall. But at the same time, you've got fun things. You've got to have a bit of fun with it, too. The big things have got to breathe. Freddie deserves a lot of respect as a collector, but you've got to have fun with it as well. Hence the mustache over our front door."
    11. Tilt down of room featuring Mercury's clothing
    12. Wide of moustached maniquins wearing Mercury's outfits
    13. Various of outfits
    14. Medium of kimono collection
    15. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:
"I think when I first heard, before we even went to Garden Lodge, his home, I assumed that much of the collection would be the costumes and the textiles. I didn't realize how careful a collector he was, how buying beautiful things they often had to have a story. Everything had to have a background. It had to speak to him on many different levels. Whether that was from his own experiences in his own background, or whether because it was a work of something that keyed into a costume perhaps he wore or, a moment in his professional career."
    16. Various of baby grand piano
    17. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:
"The piano is like the nuclear reactor within the collection, isn't it? That's that, that's the point. That's the source code. That's where it all comes from. And we know that he loved it. So treating it with respect has been absolutely at the forefront of our minds. Making sure that it's visible and that people can come in and see it and see the tool of his trade, his easel and his palette. That's mega."
    18. Close of photo of Mercury
    19. Medium of display cases containing lyrics
    20. Close of lyrics to "Killer Queen"
    21. Zoom in to close of lyrics of "Bohemian Rhapsody"
    22. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:
"If you come into the exhibition, put your iPhone on, your earpods in, find the tune and play it, and just follow those lyrics with your finger through the case. And it's quite amazing because you can see the emphasis he's placing on particular words where he's underlined something, That's really cool."
    23. Various of lyrics
    24. SOUNDBITE (English) David Macdonald, Head of Single Owner Sales, Sotheby's London:

At first I didn’t agree. I know the proceeds of this auction are going to charity. But, the more I’m looking at various videos of all of Freddie’s possessions, I feel like selling/auctioning them is like the real end of an era, the finale. Yes, I know Queen’s music will live on, which means Freddie’s voice will live on, but his collections are different. I’m 70 yrs old, and seeing this is breaking my heart. It’s like losing Freddie all over again 💔😢

Freddie specifically told Mary Austin that he didn't want his home turned into a museum, that he wanted it to be home for her and her children. Mary may feel that anything that is set up as a museum to Freddie's possessions, even if it's not at Garden Lodge might not be something he would have liked her to do.

@@chergui77 The items you're seeing have been at Garden Lodge since 1991 when he asked Mary to make it her home and not a museum so no one could enjoy them anyway. Mary is trying to make the best decision for fans all over the world who will cherish these items by not putting them in a high priced museum that most fans can't travel to England to visit.

I bought them all, put them in a museum for *true* fans to admire and say ‘goodbye’.
All of sudden Freddie has about a million online managers, saying “he didn’t want a museum” how on earth can people sit and type such rubbish!. It’s nothing to do with Sotheby’s but all Marry’s. Open a museum, sell tickets, put the sales into an AIDS charity etc. The gift that keeps on giving…

Freddie not wanting a museum is from Freddie telling Mary that he didn't want her to turn Garden Lodge into a museum with people coming through gawking at his things and she should make it her home. Mary has devoted 53 of her 72 years to Freddie Mercury and has full right to make this decision. You don't.

Mary Austin is 72 years old. She's devoted her life to Freddie since she fell in love when she was 19. Mary said she's getting her affairs in order and might be unwell or worse. She's made a decision we should honor. Most of the vipers Freddie knew would be auctioning off his ashes if he had told them, instead of Mary where he wanted to be buried.

I have enjoyed auctions for years and have been very strict about not exceeding my high bid set for items.
I picked quite a few items from Freddie's catalogue and placed my highest bids but quickly realized they were going to be nowhere close to winning. I narrowed my selections down to five items and was successful bidder on three. Considering the buyer's premiums, taxes, shipping, vat, customs fees I was lucky I only won 3 items.

    1) Shame a museum/exhibition space could not have staged an installation over a longer time frame so that more people could have visited from around the world. However, Sotheby's staging of these items is exceptional.
    2) There's talk of all the money going to charity - has this been confirmed?
    3) Think I understand the reasons for the sale. The sheer number of items is a huge responsibility and his heirs do need to live their own lives.
    4) All that said, I draw the line at the piano. Like Lennon's "Imagine" piano, this is an item of huge cultural significance to the UK and the world. It belongs in a National museum, not some oligarch''s home.
